Heather Duke: did he say he banned you from going out?

Veronica: I, uh, gotta go. I don’t want him to get any more mad.

Heather Duke: Stay with me. You’re not safe with him.

*veronica turns to leave but heather grabs her arm*

Heather Duke: Veronica. Let me help you. Come home with me and we can figure this all out.

Veronica, biting her lip: he’ll hurt you, Heather. And that would kill me.

Heather Duke, begging: please... I can’t bare to see you like this. With him.

I did a hunger games simulation with the heathers characters, here are some highlights

There it is, a full stop, her father allowed no room to wiggle from her outburst. Green eyes blaze in the dim light, imitation of seidr she never had a chance to learn, fists curled for mimicry of battles she never learned to fight. Her delicate chest rises and falls heavily, a single syllable able to leave her winded.Her despicable head sways from side to side, illustrating her point, and all the while those witchfire eyes cast hooks into Loki himself, gaze anchored to him.

“I would never ask you to fight my wars for me, Father, nor is it your place to end anything in my life.”

It was never your place to end any lives. It was never your place to become the monster children fear at night. I loved the same creatures you CONDEMNED.

“I am so tired.”

Each word is punctuated, full stop, always an ending. All the new dwellers in her hall and all the rumors that spread through the realm straight from the mouths of Midgard, she could not stop it, could not stop him. Now he thought he could speak against what had been her FAMILY, flawed as they might be. If it were Odin alone, the Norns knew she would wish him well and turn her ugly little face away, knowing too well that the price of such an action .

“How can you not be? How can you even think of your daughter arm in arm with Odin’s son in Helheim and not be exhausted by it all?”

She shakes – rage, sorrow? It is the sort of thing a father might identify, whether she needs to be held at arm’s length or in his grasp.

Such a joke it is, when her entire existence was decided that same day, stuck here in this pit, hosting the worst kind of people. The idea does not falter her, her grandfather might have put her here but he never handed down edicts as to how she live otherwise.
