Dead Sea Collection Dead Sea Collection Not only the lowest spot on earth, but also the saltiest and most mineral-laden body of water in the world, the Dead Sea, which joins Israel and Jordan, is legendary as a source of healing, and has become a popular center for health, rehabilitation and beauty treatments. Salts from the Dead Sea have been legendary for centuries because their therapeutic and beautifying properties on the skin. Nothing like regular sea salt, Dead Sea salts are comprised of a wide variety of minerals which are present in a high concentration. Whereas regular sea salts is made up of over 90% sodium, salt from the Dead Sea is only about 10% sodium and the rest is made of minerals which are essential for the proper function and health of skin. Such minerals include Magnesium, Potassium, Bromine and Calcium to name a few. Unlike regular salt, Dead Sea salt is not edible and tastes a bit bitter to the taste primarily because of the low sodium content and the high presence of other minerals. This fact however gives it the therapeutic properties that have been raved about for centuries. The minerals present in the salt are also naturally present within skin cells but commonly get depleted which can cause severe dryness, wrinkle development and dull looking skin. When Dead Sea bath salts are used they feed those essential minerals back into the skin cells improving the overall health and vitality of the skin. Dead Sea salt much richer in minerals than regular sea salts; there a very high overall presence of salt in the sea and in fact the Dead Sea is the saltiest body of water in the world when compared to any other oceans, lakes and seas. Healing powers of the Dead Sea People seeking relief from chronic skin, respiratory and joint conditions benefit from the unique solar and mineral properties found only at the Dead Sea. Mineral Composition of Dead Sea Salt A place of healing since antiquity, the Dead Sea is site to one of the world’s very first health resorts. Practicing what is now known as thalassotherapy, ancient Egyptian, Greek, and Roman visitors would bathe in the buoyant waters and rub marine mud all over their bodies to cleanse, soothe, and revitalize the skin. The therapeutic effects of Dead Sea salt are derived from its supremely rich mineral composition. Though it contains more than 42 elements, these are the most abundant: Magnesium – Involved in more than 300 essential reactions in your body including muscle movements, DNA repair, energy production, and cell signalling, magnesium is a powerful anti-inflammatory that also fights against depression, improves sleep, and strengthens bones. Dead Sea salt is comprised of between 31% and 35% magnesium chloride. Potassium – An electrolyte with a positive charge that conducts electricity within the fluids in bodily cells, potassium is vital to hydration, heart rhythm, muscle contractions, and pH balance. It makes up 20% to 28% of Dead Sea salt. Sodium Though often vilified because our diets tend to contain excessive amounts of salt, sodium is an essential electrolyte needed for the absorption and transportation of nutrients, fluid balance, blood pressure, and the transmission of nerve signals. In Dead Sea salt, it makes up 3% to 8% of its mineral content. Calcium – Playing a major role in healthy bones and teeth, calcium is also necessary to circulate the blood, release hormones, regulate body weight, and stabilize enzymes. Dead Sea salt is 0.1% to 0.5% calcium chloride. Sulfates – Found in mineral springs and volcanic ash, sulfur helps synthesize proteins, supports cartilage and connective tissues, helps the body resist bacteria, and cleanses the body of toxins. It comprises 0.05% to 0.2% of Dead Sea salt.
MHC Dead Sea Collection Dead Sea Collection Incredible Benefits Of Dead Sea Salt Dead Sea Salt is Deeply Hydrating Bathing in a solution of 5% Dead Sea salt improves skin hydration, reduces redness and roughness, and enhances the skin barrier, according to a study published in 2005. Sufferers of atopic dry skin submerged one arm in seawater and the other arm in plain tap water for 15 minutes. While the salt treated arm showed significant improvements in all areas, the tap water arm showed evidence of further transepidermal water loss. The anti-inflammatory and skin hydrating effects of Dead Sea salt are due to its high magnesium content. Magnesium salts bind to water, which in turn boosts skin absorption and permeability. Dead Sea Salt Cleanses and Disinfects Thanks to sulfur’s natural antibacterial properties, Dead Sea salt is wonderful for cleaning the surface of the skin. Because Dead Sea salt contains only small amounts of sulfur salts, it offers a gentle way to reduce oily skin and clear away acne. It is an Excellent Exfoliator Another way Dead Sea salt helps cleanse the skin is its ability to slough off dead skin cells that can contribute to skin roughness, clogged pores, and blemishes. Dead Sea Salt Promotes Youthful Skin In evaluating the effects of Dead Sea salt on aging skin, researchers found that it reduces skin roughness that contributes to fine lines and deep wrinkles. It Heals Chronic Skin Conditions The combination of minerals in Dead Sea salt has worked wonders for people who suffer from dry, sensitive, and itchy skin. Dead Sea Salt Calms Rheumatoid Arthritis Marked by painful swelling of the joints, rheumatoid arthritis may over time lead to bone erosion and deformity. Though there is no cure, Dead Sea salt therapy has proven to be an effective treatment for many of the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis. It Soothes Sore Muscles Soaking in Dead Sea salt can help relieve muscle cramps and soreness and offers a relaxing way to ease the pain and discomfort of fatigued and tense tissues.Dead Sea Collection

How to Transform Your Tub Into a Healing Hot Spring
Source: How to Transform Your Tub Into a Healing Hot Spring
by Dr. Edward Group
Since antiquity, cultures around the world have sought out the healing power of baths. Ancient Greeks were among the first to harness the power of water to boost physical and mental health. They bathed in sulfurous hot springs to relieve muscle pain and soothe skin irritation, and famous philosophers like Plato and Hippocrates wrote about the benefits of bathing.[1]
Romans also made bathing a regular part of their health regimens, using it as an opportunity to socialize. They built huge public baths where hundreds and even thousands of people gathered. They called public baths Sanus per Aquam or SPA — some experts believe this is where the term “spa” originated.[1]
In the early 1900s, people traveled to Lithia Springs, Georgia to soak in a hot spring rich in the trace mineral lithium. This mineral is a mood booster, stress reliever, and libido enhancer.[2] And even today, soaking in mineral hot springs around the world is a popular activity for health and wellness.
Of course, you don’t need to travel to Greece, Rome, or Lithia Springs, Georgia to enjoy a mineral bath. You can create your own “hot spring” at home with nothing more than a tubful of hot water, a handful of mineral salts, and a few minutes of your time.
Let’s take a closer look at the health benefits of baths, as well as easy ways you can make bathing part of your self-care routine.
Health Benefits of Bathing
There’s a reason that so many people seek out the pleasure of hot springs, spas, and other therapeutic bath experiences. Whether you love baths for relaxation or a few minutes escape from a hectic day, bathing offers a variety of health benefits. Here are some of them.
Soothes Sore Muscles & Joints
If your muscles and joints feel sore, bathing can help relax them. While a plain hot bath does the trick, add two cups of Epsom salt to the water for even better results. Epsom salt contains magnesium (magnesium sulfate, specifically), which plays a role in muscle contractions.
When you are low in magnesium, your muscles may become tenser, cramp more, and not work as efficiently. This is one reason why experts, particularly in sports medicine, recommend Epsom salt baths when your muscles are tight or sore.[3] They not only soothe the muscles and joints, but also reduce inflammation.
Writer and fitness enthusiast Alex F. learned about the muscle-relaxing benefits of Epsom salt when she saw an occupational therapist about some mysterious back pain.
“The doctor discovered that one of my ribs had slipped out of place, probably during a workout,” says Alex. “She recommended I take a bath with Epsom salts because the magnesium would help relax my muscles and allow the rib to go back into place gently.” After following the advice, her back pain disappeared.
Reduces Stress
The bathtub is a place of respite for Kimbra P., a busy mom from Madison, WI. “Even though there is so much love in our house, it can all be overwhelming,” she explains.
When she’s soaking in a warm bath, “Anxious thoughts tend to stay away, because it’s the one place of complete calm and quiet in a house full of kids and animals.”
The relaxing effects of bathing are well-documented.[1, 4, 5] Bathing improves circulation after a long day, especially if you are sedentary. People who bathed every day for 10 minutes felt less stress and anxiety after just two weeks compared with people who showered instead.[5]
A nice hot soak also helps modulate the nervous system and lower blood pressure.
Improves Sleep
If your mind starts racing the moment your head hits the pillow at night, a bath before bed may help you unwind. The drowsiness you feel after soaking in a tub full of warm water allows you to drift off more quickly.[6] and sleep more deeply.[6]
Adding Epsom salt provides the added benefit of relieving muscle tension, which can also help you get better sleep.
Pairing your bath with an herbal supplement like Global Healing’s Organic Valerian Raw Herbal Extract
— well-known as a sleep remedy — can ease you into slumber without grogginess the next day.[7]
Transform Your Tub Into A Healing Hot Spring
If you think you’re too busy to take a healing bath, think again. One of the best parts about soaking to boost well-being is that it doesn’t require a large time commitment.
You only need to spend about 15 to 20 minutes in the tub to soak up the benefits. While bath bombs are popular these days, they often contain artificial colors and chemicals. Instead, make your own.
In no time at all, you can create some DIY bath salts that will take your bath from blah to spa.
Recipe: Relaxing Mineral Bath Salts
This recipe not only helps detoxify you through your skin — by means of the Bentonite clay — it adds minerals into your bath that your skin absorbs, as well.[8, 9]
Bentonite clay contains calcium, iron, silica, magnesium, and other minerals. Epsom salt, as mentioned, also contains magnesium that soothes sore muscles and joints. This mineral bath salts recipe is perfect for unwinding after a stressful day or for a post-workout soak.
Equipment
Mixing bowl
Whisk
Wide-mouthed glass jar
Ingredients
2 cups Epsom salt (unscented)
2 cups Celtic gray sea salt
2 cups Bentonite clay
4 tablespoons aluminum-free baking soda
20 drops lavender essential oil
Directions
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together Epsom salt, Celtic salt, Bentonite clay, and baking soda.
Add lavender oil and stir well.
Transfer mixture to a wide-mouthed glass jar and seal tightly.
To use, add two cups of bath salts to running bath water and allow them to dissolve. Climb in the tub and relax!
Rinse excess minerals off in a shower or with clean water after soaking.
Recipe: Decongestant Bath Salts
If you’re experiencing congestion and/or body aches related to illness, you may find relief with this recipe. It features the sinus-clearing essential oils eucalyptus and rosemary.
Equipment
Mixing bowl
Whisk
Wide-mouthed glass jar
Ingredients
2 cups Epsom salt
¼ cup baking soda
3 drops eucalyptus essential oil
2 drops rosemary essential oil
Directions
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together Epsom salt and baking soda.
Add eucalyptus and rosemary essential oils and stir well to combine.
Transfer mixture to a wide-mouthed glass jar and seal tightly.
To use, add a handful of bath salts to running water and allow them to dissolve. Climb in the tub and breathe deeply as you bathe.
Create a Mindfulness Bathing Ritual
Taking a bath is an excellent way to practice mindfulness, clearing your mind of worries and fear. Think of your bath as a type of meditation.
Rather than fretting about your to-do list or stressing about the state of the world, focus on the sensations you’re experiencing. Feel the sensation of the hot water against your skin.
Listen to the sound of the faucet slowly dripping. Close your eyes and inhale the fragrant steam rising from the water. When you use bath time to practice being present, you’re able to calm your racing mind while relaxing your body.

When she’s soaking in a warm bath, "Anxious thoughts tend to stay away, because it’s the one place of complete calm and quiet in a house full of kids and animals."
Pairing your bath with an herbal supplement like Global Healing’s Organic Valerian Raw Herbal Extract™ — well-known as a sleep remedy — can ease you into slumber without grogginess the next day.[7]
Transform Your Tub Into A Healing Hot Spring
Points to Remember
Since ancient times, people have relied on bathing to boost their well being. Taking a bath offers health benefits like easing muscle tension, reducing stress, and improving sleep.
With little time and a few simple ingredients, you can transform your tub into a healing hot spring. You can also use bathing as an opportunity to practice mindfulness, clearing your mind and soaking your cares away.
Consider making baths a part of your self-care routine to soothe yourself, body and soul.

Epsom Salt For Acne: Is It Really Effective?
Ramona Sinha Hyderabd040-395603080 July 31, 2019
Epsom salt (magnesium sulfate) is a mineral compound that offers numerous health, skin care, and beauty benefits. From soothing aching muscles to revitalizing your skin, Epsom salt is believed to offer a wide range of detoxifying effects and therapeutic benefits. Although there is not enough scientific evidence to support the healing effects of Epsom salt, those who use it swear by its benefits. But, does Epsom salt work on acne? In this article, we will look at the possible therapeutic benefits of Epsom salt for acne and ways to use it for relieving this condition. Read on.
Table Of Contents
Is Epsom Salt Effective In Treating Acne?
Shutterstock
There is no scientific evidence that suggests that Epsom salt can treat acne. In fact, there are not enough studies to show Epsom salt can even penetrate your skin’s layers. Anecdotal evidence says that soaking in an Epsom salt bath treats several skin-related issues, including acne. Advocates of Epsom salt argue that it:
Soothes your skin by exfoliating dead skin cells and is beneficial in improving the skin texture. It also relieves conditions, such as eczema and psoriasis.
Helps relieve stress by relaxing your muscles and soothing your senses. It is said that the magnesium in Epsom salt penetrates your skin and helps raise the magnesium levels in your body, which is crucial for minimizing stress. However, there is no study that claims that magnesium can penetrate your dermal layers.
Reduces pain, especially pain caused by inflammatory conditions, such as gout and arthritis. People with these conditions experienced a reduction in discomfort and soreness after taking Epsom salt baths.
Reduces acne, including blackheads, whiteheads, and pimples. Acne is caused when dirt, dead skin cells, and sebum clog your skin pores and cause inflammation. Many people use Epsom salt as a spot treatment to reduce swelling and inflammation.
Absence of proof does not mean that Epsom salt does not work at all. A significant number of people have used Epsom salt and swear by its benefits. Epsom salt is extensively used in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). It has been used for centuries to promote sleep, relaxation, blood circulation, and detoxification. If you want to use Epsom salt to treat acne, you can try these easy home remedies.
Ways To Use Epsom Salt For Acne
1. Epsom Salt And Water Facial Soak
Shutterstock
You Will Need
2-3 tablespoons Epsom salt
2 cups warm water
1 washcloth
Method
Mix the Epsom salt in water until it dissolves completely.
Soak the washcloth in Epsom salt water.
Wring it gently and place it on your face. Don’t cover your eyes.
Leave the cloth on your face until it cools down.
Repeat this process several times on all parts of your face (except eyes).
Rinse your face with warm water.
Follow this remedy three times a week.
2. Epsom Salt And Avocado Face Mask
Avocado does not treat acne, but it is an excellent base for any face mask. When used with Epsom salt, it has a soothing effect on your skin.
You Will Need
½ avocado (mashed)
1 tablespoon Epsom salt
Method
Whip the avocado and Epsom salt together until you get a smooth mixture.
Spread a thin layer of the mixture on your face.
Leave it on for 20-30 minutes.
Wash it off with warm water.
Repeat this routine three times a week.
3. Epsom Salt And Honey Face Mask
Shutterstock
Honey has antimicrobial, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory properties. The high sugar content in honey prevents bacterial activity, which is why it is widely used to treat many skin conditions (1). When used along with Epsom salt, honey makes for an excellent face mask and scrub.
You Will Need
2 tablespoons Epsom salt
2 tablespoons organic honey (you may use Manuka honey, if available)
Method
Mix the honey and Epsom salt until they are combined well. You may adjust the quantity of both as per your convenience.
Apply the mixture to your face or the affected area.
Massage gently in a circular motion for a few minutes.
Leave it on for at least 15 minutes.
Wash it off with warm water.
Repeat this process two to three times a week.
4. Epsom Salt And Virgin Coconut Oil Face Mask
Virgin coconut oil soothes and moisturizes your skin and relieves many skin conditions. It has anti-inflammatory properties, and it helps improve the skin barrier function (2). The therapeutic properties of virgin coconut oil, along with Epsom salt, can help reduce acne inflammation.
Note: If you have oily skin, avoid using coconut oil or consult a dermatologist before using it on your skin.
You Will Need
2 tablespoons virgin coconut oil
1 tablespoon Epsom salt
2-3 drops of any essential oil (optional)
Method
Mix the oil(s) and Epsom salt.
Massage the mixture on your face or the affected area for a few minutes.
Leave the mask on for at least 20-30 minutes.
Wash it off with warm water.
Repeat this remedy two to three times a week.
5. Epsom Salt And Oatmeal Face Mask
Shutterstock
Colloidal oatmeal (finely ground oats boiled in water) is widely used in dermatology for soothing various topical issues. It is known to have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits that can soothe irritated skin (3). This face mask can calm acne and feel soothing on your skin.
You Will Need
½ cup oats (ground and boiled)
1 tablespoon Epsom salt
1 teaspoon honey
Water (use it to achieve the desired consistency)
Method
Mix all the ingredients in a bowl.
Combine well and apply on your face or the affected areas.
Leave it on for 20-30 minutes.
Wash it off with warm water.
Follow this routine three times a week.
6. Epsom Salt And Olive Oil Face Mask
Extra virgin olive oil has anti-inflammatory properties as it contains a compound called oleocanthal (4). Thus, it might help in reducing inflammation around the acne.
You Will Need
2 tablespoons Epsom salt
Extra virgin olive oil (use it to achieve the desired consistency)
Method
Pour the Epsom salt in a bowl and add extra virgin olive oil to it. Adjust the quantity as per the desired consistency. Mix well.
Massage the mixture gently on your face for 2-5 minutes.
Leave it on for another 10-15 minutes.
Wash it off with warm water.
Repeat this remedy two times a week.
7. Epsom Salt, Turmeric, And Milk Face Scrub
Shutterstock
Milk contains lactic acid that improves skin texture and makes it smooth (5). Turmeric has antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties (6). These properties keep your skin healthy and minimize acne and other types of inflammation.
You Will Need
¼ cup milk cream (scoop out the cream from full-fat milk)
½ teaspoon turmeric
1 tablespoon Epsom salt
Method
Mix all the ingredients in a bowl.
Spread the mixture on your face or the affected area(s).
Leave it on for 15-20 minutes.
Wash it off with warm water.
Repeat this routine two to three times a week.
8. Epsom Salt And Baking Soda Bath
There is no scientific proof that baking soda is good for treating acne. However, many people have used it on their face and experienced positive results. This is because of the exfoliating effect of baking soda.
Caution: Avoid this remedy if you have sensitive skin.
You Will Need
¼ cup baking soda
¼ cup Epsom salt
2-3 drops of any essential oil (optional)
Method
Mix all the ingredients in a bowl.
Prepare a warm bath and pour the mixture into it. Stir it with your hands to dissolve it completely.
Soak in the bath for 20-40 minutes.
Take a shower and follow up with a moisturizer.
Repeat this routine two times a week.
There is only anecdotal evidence of the benefits of Epsom salt for acne and the skin. In most cases, topical Epsom salt does not cause any negative effects and is considered safe to use. However, there is scope that things might go wrong. Here’s what you need to know.
Side Effects Of Epsom Salt
Shutterstock
If you are allergic to sulfur, Epsom salt may cause an allergic reaction. You may experience:
Nausea
Skin irritation
Vomiting
Drowsiness
Rashes
Hives
Swelling of lips and tongue
Also, soaking in an Epsom salt bath for a prolonged period (more than 30 minutes) may cause dehydration. It is always better to take precautions beforehand to avoid any side effects.
Do an allergy test beforehand to check if you are allergic to Epsom salt.
Never ignore the symptoms. Seek medical attention immediately if you experience any of the symptoms after applying or using Epsom salt.
If you have mild to moderate acne, you may try out Epsom salt to treat it. However, if you are under treatment and medication for acne, consult your dermatologist before using Epsom salt topically. If you have any more questions regarding using Epsom salt for acne, post them in the comments section below, and we’ll get back to you.

Natural Rx: The Best Herbs and Supplements for Your Immune System
If you find you are more susceptible to infections than those around you, suffer from chronic infections or take more time to recover from injuries and infections, then there is a very good possibility that your immune system is not working properly and needs a helping hand.
A weak immune system makes you vulnerable to opportunistic infections including genital herpes or cold sores and yeast infections like Candida, athlete’s foot and other fungus infections.
A weak or inefficient immune system also makes you more susceptible to all forms of cancer.
The Immune System
The immune system is a complex system, which along with the thymus, bone marrow and lymphoid tissues, works to protect the body from disease. Whenever it identifies a foreign substance and disease causing organisms it produces an immune response.
An immune response is a bodily defense reaction that recognizes an invading substance (an antigen: such as a virus, fungus, bacteria or transplanted organ) and produces antibodies specific to that antigen.
There are many factors that lead to weakening of the immune system. Daily stress, for example, can greatly compromise the immune system and affect the body’s ability to heal itself. Consumption of refined sugar (more than normal) also suppresses the body’s self healing process.
A study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition reported that 24 ounces of soda depresses the activity of neutrophils, the most abundant type of white blood cells that engulf and digest fungi and bacteria.
The most effective approach to improving your immunity is to eat healthy, exercise regularly and avoid tobacco, alcohol, recreational drugs and stress. For optimal immunity, you should also avoid unnecessary prescription drugs.
However, that may not be always possible in modern society where most of us find it hard even to sit down and eat home cooked food.
The immune system works the best when the body has adequate levels of micronutrients such as vitamins and minerals including iron, zinc, copper and selenium. Regular intake of herbal supplements is a convenient and healthy option to give a boost to your immune system as they help in maintaining healthy levels of these micronutrients.
Powerful Immune Boosting Herbs
Echinacea
Echinacea is a flowering plant belonging to the daisy family and perhaps amongst the popular herbs with the proponents of herbal remedies for strengthening the immune system.
Also known as American coneflower, it has been used by the Native Americans for centuries for treatment of symptoms of cold and flu.
By mid 1800s Europeans also came to know of the beneficial properties of the plant and the current popularity of Echinacea is attributed to research carried out in 1920s in Germany.
Echinacea is a perennial plant with a reddish/brownish seed cone at the center of pink to purple (depending on the species) flowers. The three species of Echinacea used for preparing herbal remedies are:
Echinacea angustifolia.
Echinacea pallid.
Echinacea purpurea.
Besides its use for preventing cold and flu, Echinacea has been shown to contribute to the health of the immune system and greatly decrease the frequency of opportunistic infections. Dr Craig Coleman of School of Pharmacy, University of Connecticut reviewed more than a dozen studies on Echinacea and concluded that the herb reduced the chances of catching common cold by 58% as well as cutting down the duration by an average of 1.4 days.
Out the dozen studies reviewed, one study had tested Echinacea in combination with vitamin C. This study reported an 86% reduction in incidence of cold. The findings were published in The Lancet Infections Diseases, July 2007 edition.
The mechanism of action was not clear to the researchers but they believed that the effect of Echinacea on the immune system was primarily due to the alkamides, chicoric acid and polysaccharides in the plant.
Garlic
Garlic has a long history as a therapeutic herb that can be traced back to the ancient times. Its health benefits have been supported by laboratory tests performed at the Harvard Medical School. The lab tests showed that garlic promotes immunity by influencing a wide variety of immune cells.
The double blind placebo controlled study on 120 subjects successfully established the efficacy of garlic as a booster of immune system. Subjects given garlic extract supplementation reported a substantial reduction in cold and flu symptoms.
Garlic is rich in allicin, a sulfur compound also found in onions. Allicin in garlic is released only after it has been cut or chewed. People who have used garlic supplementation regularly have reported multiple benefits of the root.
Stops hair loss
Clears acne
Prevents and treats cold and flu
As an anti-inflammatory herb provides relief from psoriasis outbreaks
Aids in weight loss
Treats athlete’s foot
Treats cold sores and helps relieve pain and inflammation
It’s a natural pesticide
It is a natural antiseptic and used to prevent gangrene
Garlic can be used in a variety of ways:
Ingest fresh garlic orally.
Apply crushed garlic on skin and wounds directly.
Soak feet or any other part of the body in a bath of warm water and crushed garlic.
Cook in food.
Use garlic extracts and oils.
Beta Glucan
Beta Glucan is naturally present as cellulose in plants, bran of grains, baker’s yeast, mushrooms and certain fungi. Medically, it is classified as a polysaccharide, a class of carbohydrates whose molecules contain chains of monosaccharide (kind of sugar like sucrose and fructose) molecules.
Oats are rich in water soluble fiber beta-glucan and its health effects have been extensively studied in the last three decades. Beta-glucan contained in mushrooms and baker’s yeast has been shown to modulate the immune system.
As a modulator of immune system, it triggers regulator activities that control the immune system. It improves the ability of macrophages, the scavenger cells to identify and destroy invading pathogens.
Because of their ability to stimulate the immune system to perform at optimal level, beta-glucans are sometimes referred to as biological response modifiers
Along with pushing the immune system towards optimal performance, beta-glucan has numerous other health benefits also.
Health issues that Beta-glucan helps you with include:
High cholesterol. A review, published in 2011,of studies conducted in the last thirteen years, concluded that beta-glucan can reduce bad and total cholesterol levels by 5-7%
Analysis of research done on beta-glucans in 2008 established that consumption of foods rich in beta-glucans can help control blood sugar levels and protect diabetics from complications arising out of high blood sugar.
Reduce Blood Pressure. A 2007 study published in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition reported that beta-glucan can help in lowering high blood pressure in those diagnosed with hypertension and obesity.
A report of the Word Cancer Research Fund and American Institute for Cancer Research suggests that dietary fiber rich foods aid in protecting against the risk of colorectal cancer as well as esophageal cancer.
Chronic fatigue syndrome.
Rheumatoid arthritis.
Ulcerative colitis.
Crohn's disease.
Astragalus
Astragalus has been used as an herbal medicine in traditional Chinese and Persian medicine. It has been used to reinforce Qi. According to Chinese philosophy, Qi is the circulating life energy that is inherent in all things; it is the balance of negative and positive forms in the body is believed to be essential for a strong immune system and good health.
Astragalus has been the subject matter of intense research for its ability to strengthen the immune system. It has been studied particularly in relation to cancer patients.
Studies have established that cancer patients taking astragalus recover faster, have a prolonged life and are able to resist the side effects of chemotherapy and radiotherapy better than others. This is attributed to the herb’s ability to promote production and activity of white blood cells.
Astragalus is also an anti-inflammatory and anti bacterial agent that helps in wound healing and improving overall health. There is adequate evidence to suggest that it can help in managing blood sugar levels in diabetics. As a DNA protector, astragalus is instrumental in delaying the natural aging process.
Ashwagandha
Ashwagandha, derived from the powdered root of Withania somnifera has been for centuries the mainstay of Ayurveda, the traditional Hindu art of healing and prolonging life.
The herb belongs to the nightshade family and is popularly referred to as the Indian ginseng. The popularity of ashwagandha in the west is attributed to research providing evidence of its therapeutic properties.
Ashwagandha has been found to be a very effective remedy for overcoming stress-caused weakness in the immune system. Daily stress due to the hard modern life can take a toll of the body’s inherent ability to self heal and ward off invading pathogens.
Research published in 2011 in North American Journal of Medical Sciences suggests that ashwagandha as a standalone remedy or in conjunction with other herbal remedies such as extract of Grifola frondosa (maitake mushroom) can enhance immune responses by a great degree.
Ashwagandha contains natural steroidal substances that are instrumental in reducing inflammation and help in pain relief and removing swelling. Preliminary studies of ashwagandha as an anti cancer agent are very encouraging. In vitro studies suggest that the ashwagandha extract can kill cancer cells and stop them from proliferating.
Turmeric
Turmeric is a perennial plant belonging to the ginger family. The root of the plant is dried and powdered and used as a spice. It is an integral part of Indian cuisine and used in almost all recipes particularly in curries. It has countless medicinal properties and perhaps the most effective natural nutritional supplement known to us.
Western science has recently woken up to the therapeutic benefits that the Indians have known for thousands of years.
Turmeric contains a group of compounds known as curcuminoids. The best known and researched among them is curcumin. Other constituents include volatile oils, sugars, proteins and resins.
Curcumin has natural antioxidant properties that help in preventing damage to DNA and give the immune system a boost. As a powerful antioxidant, curcumin in turmeric prevents free radical damage and improve the body’s ability to self heal. It also enhances the ability of the body’s own antioxidant enzymes. In animal studies, curcumin has been shown to be an anti tumor agent that kills tumors cells.
However, turmeric contains 3% curcumin by weight and for it to be fully effective the body needs more than one gram per day. it is not possible to reach these levels by consuming it just as a spice. For deriving full therapeutic benefits, one must rely on turmeric extracts that contain mostly curcumin.
American Ginseng
Like turmeric, ginseng is also among the most commonly used and researched herbal remedies in the world. The word ginseng may be used to refer to American ginseng or Chinese or Korean ginseng or its distant relative, Siberian ginseng.
Ginseng, regardless of the variety, promotes wellbeing, improves physical and mental health and helps prevent or decrease severity of illnesses.
The botanical name of American ginseng is Panax quinquefolia and has been used by Native Americans since centuries. It is known to be an effective herbal remedy for improving the health of the immune system by increasing the production of hormones related to the thymus gland.
The thymus is located at the base of the neck and produces lymphocytes, which make up more than a quarter of all white blood cells, an important constituent of the immune system. The thymus gland atrophies with age and American ginseng helps in delaying that process.
American ginseng’s ability to boost the immune system is attributed to its constituents namely Saponin triterpenoid glycosides, polysaccharides, vitamins A and B6 and zinc.
American ginseng is also used for alleviating stress of modern stressful life and as a general stimulant and tonic. There is also credible evidence that American ginseng helps in prevention of cold and flu.
The Final Word
The natural way of strengthening the immune system is to eat fresh and organic vegetables and fruit. As much as possible, focus on raw and steamed vegetables and avoid overcooking.
Prefer unprocessed grain and lean meat and consume a fair quantity of nuts and seeds daily. However, for many this may sound as something too much to ask.
There is adequate evidence that many herbal remedies have a strong influence on the immune system and can help in improving the body’s inherent ability of identifying pathogens and responding to cure and self heal.
Some of the herbs mentioned here are excellent for giving immunity a boost on their own as well as in combination with other herbs. Combination herbal formulations may also be necessary with an eye on diet and relaxation so as to give immunity a bigger boost.
The above list is by no means complete and there are many other herbs as well that have numerous therapeutic properties of supporting the immune system.
In many cases it may not be possible to derive the full benefit of a herb by consuming it in its raw or cooked form and it may be necessary to use commercially (but scientifically) prepared extracts and supplements.
Strengthen Your Immune System Naturally
Beta-1, 3D Glucan boosts the immune system to provide support and balance. It is unlike other immune supplements that simply stimulate or alter the immune response in unnatural ways. Over 50 years of research from prestigious universities around the world document the benefits of Beta-1, 3D Glucan.

5 Natural Ways to Detox Your Body (No Juicing Required!)
Many health experts recommend periodic body detoxification to purge undesirable metals and chemicals and optimize body functions. There are many programs out there that involve fasting, drinking juices and teas, taking herbs, and eating only fruits and vegetables for a time.
These all may help to rid your body of toxins but there are other considerations whenever you severely restrict your diet and change your daily activities. Before you do anything drastic to embark on a detoxification regimen, consider the following as simple and safe daily actions you can take to assist your skin, kidneys, liver, and lymph nodes to do what they do anyway: get rid of the bad stuff.
1. Breathe.
youtube
Take some time to sit and focus on deep breathing. The ”conqueror breath” is recommended for its focus on slowing and maintaining awareness. Begin with five minutes and work up to fifteen minutes each day.
2. Soak it up.
Epsom salts have several health benefits including soothing muscle pain, easing stress, and healing skin problems. It’s not really salt but a natural mineral compound also known to draw toxins out of the body through its penetration of magnesium and sulfate—two minerals that are often lacking in the North American diet—via the skin. The sulfur in Epsom salts boosts the antioxidant glutathione in your body, which prevents cell damage and supports liver function. Two cups in a hot bath has a calming therapeutic effect.
3. Get hot and sweaty.
Sauna has been employed all over the world for millennia as a way to soothe muscles, relax, de-stress, and sweat. This is a good thing, as toxins are released via your perspiration. Ten to fifteen minutes two or three times a week is beneficial. Make sure you drink plenty of water before and after to avoid dehydration. If you have any health concerns at all, consult your healthcare provider before stepping in the hot box.
4. Increase intake of cleansing vegetables.
Certain foods contain phytonutrients (compounds found in plants that serve a variety of health functions) that increase your body’s production of glutathione: kale, cabbage, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, collard greens, turnips, radish, and broccoli are some. They don’t smell great but these cruciferous vegetables have also been shown to inhibit cancer. [1]
5. ZZZZZ.
Last on this list—but certainly not least—is sleep. So many of us don’t get enough and good quality sleep is absolutely crucial for every aspect of your well-being. One of the many things the body does while you sleep is get rid of waste—part of your glymphatic system [2]. While awake, your brain is concerned with its day-to-day activities. Your glymphatic system waits until your brain is not pre-occupied to do its regular clean-up; it’s almost ten times more active while you sleep. Regularly get a full night’s sleep of seven or eight hours so your body can clean house.
Doing the things listed on a regular basis will support maximization of your body’s waste management without shock or additives. A little lemon in some warm water is good, too.

Far Infrared Sauna versus Traditional Hot Air
So many people inquire about this one subject; the primary difference between a sauna and a spa. Many questions surround this issue. Technically, there are many differences between a spa and a sauna. Some seem to use the word interchangeably while not understanding the profound difference. A sauna is a small room usually designed as a specific location where a person can go to experience either wet or dry heat sessions. Saunas can be targeted for either recreational or therapeutic use or both. A spa, also known as a hot tub, is a heated, small pool of water generally utilized for relaxation, soaking, massage or hydrotherapy. Both the sauna and the spa promote health and wellness.
Generally, saunas are either dry or wet. Wet saunas, also called steam rooms, are kept at lower temperatures in order to prevent the extremely hot water from scalding the skin. Temperatures range from 100 degrees F to 115 degrees F. Conversely, dry saunas are operated at a greatly increased temperature, upwards to 250 degrees F. This is possible due to the zero moisture level within the cabin. Higher temperatures produce greater sweating, thus better results when seeking detoxification, relaxation, stress reduction and sleep benefits.
Far infrared saunas which are dry saunas produce heat through electromagnetic radiation heaters, combination carbon and ceramic, that range in temperature from 120 degrees F to 157 degrees F. These saunas heat the air surrounding the person, thus raising the core body temperature resulting in the many health benefits associated with infrared heat. Generally, this is a more comfortable thermal heat. Considering the state of our shared environment many have deduced the far infrared sauna to be the most effective at battling the many toxins we are bombarded with on a daily basis.
Our exposure to toxins has dramatically increased over the past decades. Their residues are reduced and eliminated through far infrared sauna therapy. Circulation is increased improving lymph flow and toxins are released through the skin aiding in the health of important organs such as the liver, kidneys, and bowel. While sitting in the sauna your body temperature rises mimicking a natural fever response. This, in turn, boosts your immune system, which as you know, is necessary for every important function within your body.
Most of us exist within the confines of toxic air, cars, offices, and homes filled with air conditioning and heat. We use antiperspirants, perfumes, bath products, cleaning supplies and various other toxic substances. Top that with not enough exercise, thus no sweat, and the results could be disastrous. We definitely do not sweat enough! Our bodies were designed to work hard and sweat a lot. Sweat is a healthy and very natural way to eliminate toxins. The warm, gentle infrared waves from a far infrared sauna ensure powerful cellular cleansing. While taking a sauna metabolism is boosted, circulation is increased, blood is oxygenated and your entire body reaps the benefits of the Far Infrared heat.
In contrast, traditional saunas directly heat the surrounding air utilizing heated water turned into steam. For centuries this was the conventional avenue in terms of gaining the benefits from a good sweat. However, heated steam can be unbearable to some and even very tiring to others thus not used as frequently. Infrared heat is tolerable, even for the first time user, it provides more benefits than the traditional sauna and because it can be used more consistently, it is even better at providing these benefits if for no other reason than it is used more! Far infrared heat is simple more effective.
For example, research has been done on the perspiration resulting from both far infrared saunas and traditional steam saunas. The results are informative. Each produced water and toxins but at dramatically differing levels. Traditional sauna sweat was 97% water and 3% toxins. Whereas far infrared sweat was 80% water and the remaining 20% various toxins including heavy metals, sulfuric acid, sodium, ammonia, uric acid and many other fat-soluble toxins. Additional findings reveal the deep penetration of the far infrared heat waves released varying toxins surrounding fat layers that lie beneath the skin. This is accomplished effectively and more efficiently than a traditional sauna with hot air and steam. Infrared heat releases toxins from the body’s internal organs, as well.
Whether a wet sauna, dry sauna, hot tub or spa heating the body produces sweat. It has been established; the use of dry, far infrared heat is the most productive in terms of raising core body temperature. When this happens all kinds of wonderful health befits ensue. Do your own research and after that begin a regimen of daily far infrared saunas. You will feel better and sleep more than you ever imagined possible. Your body will thank you!

It’s super fun to make bath salts. They make great gifts. And of course, it’s incredibly relaxing to take baths, especially at the end of a long, stressful day.
But why do we add Epsom salts, sea salt, baking soda, and essential oils to our baths? What does each of these ingredients do for us? What ‘s the benefit of adding them?
Epsom Salt
Did you know that Epsom salt is not actually a salt? It’s actually a naturally occurring pure mineral compound of magnesium and sulfate.

Sea Salt
Dead Sea Salts contain 21 minerals including magnesium, calcium, sulfur, bromide, iodine, sodium, zinc and potassium. These essential minerals naturally occur in our bodies but must be replenished, as they are lost throughout the day. These minerals are known to treat, detoxify, and cleanse our bodies.
Benefits of Dead Sea Salt:
– Potassium helps to balance skin moisture
– Bromides helps reduce muscle pain and stiffness
– Sodium helps improves the circulation of lymphatic fluid
– Magnesium helps support a great night’s sleep
– Iodine is important for the correct functioning of the thyroid gland and is aids in the body’s metabolic exchanges
– Sulfur is known as a powerful detoxifying agent, as it works closely with the liver to rid the body of toxins
Baking Soda
Baking soda, or sodium bicarbonate, provides a naturally alkaline substance with a reputation for helping to remove toxins. Yep, this is the same stuff you use in baking and to freshen your refrigerator.
Benefits of Baking Soda:
– Helps to detoxify and alkalize your body
– Helps to soften the skin
– Leaves skin feeling silky soft
Essential Oils
Essential oils are a wonderful addition to a bath, because their therapeutic benefits are easily absorbed by the skin.
Benefits of Essential Oil:
Lavender: eases feelings of tension and soothes occasional skin irritations
Cedarwood: promotes relaxation
Bergamot: calming and provides skin purifying benefits
Wild orange: uplifting to the body and mind
Roman chamomile: calming effect on skin, mind, and body
Patchouli: grounding, balancing effect on emotions. Reduces the appearance of wrinkles, blemishes, and skin imperfections.
Frankincense: promotes feelings of relation and reduces the appearance of skin imperfections
Ylang ylang: lessens tensions and pressure, promoting a positive outlook. Promotes mood while having a calming effect.
Sandalwood: grounding and balancing with a mediation-like effect
Geranium: promotes appearance of clear, healthy skin
So that’s why you should add Epsom salt, sea salt, baking soda, and essential oils to your bath.
Here again is the basic recipe:
