You had always had a love hate relationship with bakugou katsuki.

Katsuki plugged his phone up w a smile, genuinely laughing to himself at how he keeps winning these things, he sighs one last time before his thoughts randomly crossed to you.

And he did, that's what took you both by surprise, he actually smiled warmly at you, it left a warm feeling in you.

His smile was actually quite good looking on him, you never had a problem with admitting bakugou katsuki was an attractive man, it's just his attitude that was ugly. With you being pretty chubby or js blatantly fat in other people's eyes you never had a lot of options due to people judging you by your body and not your personality, believe it or not, katsuki was one of the only people to never actually talk about your body besides calling you chubs, and whenever mineta called you ome of the ugliest girls there, die to your weight, he quickly shut that shit down.

Given how people treat you, that truly is the way you treat others, you try to see people for more than just a pretty face, so whenever anyone talked to you, given everyone in your class is at least a little bit attractive, whether you had a bird head and a sexy body, (tokoyami) or had the cutest little freckles, you'd never let that get into your head, being pretty will only get people so far, so you always tried to look inward with people who considered themselves your friend in any way.

You had admiration for katsuki, sure, but you never liked him, you thought he was annoying, brass, hella obnoxious, and conceited.

So when he came to you, holding a good genuine conversation, not looking away from you, never once glancing down at your boobs or body in general, and actually smiled at you, you were genuinely in utter complete shock.

He just wanted to spend time with you.. and, do face masks and play Roblox and bully people and binge watch your fav show and fall asleep in each other's arms as he kissed your forehead?

He was pissed, not because you rejected him, not really, more so because he knows you think he's being a dick right now but he's not, hes being genuine and honest. He wants to hang out with you, willingly with no strings up his sleeves to find a way and poke fun at you.

Was that left your mouth before he gently captured your lips taking you completely by surprise, not just by the kiss, but by the fact of how gentle he was with you, the way his hand moves up to your shoulder then finding it's way in the back of your neck, pushing you deeper into the kiss.

Everything that was still being said by the two boys that had crashed you party had again falken on deaf ears, he was too focused on you and the way you winked at him, the fact you'd actually let him do whatever he wanted to you while you were against the wall.

I hav this ungodly hatred of the “damsel in destress” trope, specifically with listener characters. It’s a reason why I like Erik’s work so much, because altho a lot of listeners may be saved by someone, the listener is fighting.

Lovely when they where kidnapped? They where fighting tooth and nail the whooole time. How they got out was them breaking free from Adam’s trance and electrocuting him.

Freelancer when Vega attacked? They shot at Vega, they helped to protect themselves and Caelum as much as they could with their current power, they weren’t just standing around uselessly waiting for Gavin to finish him off, when that ward protecting them feel, they fought back.

Sunshine in the basement? (This is one of my favs) they have absolutely 0 (zero) power. Nothing. They are in the perfect place to just, ‘wait and be saved’. But they don’t know they could be saved, as far as they know, Elliot hasn’t a clue they even loved him. They think the only way to get out is to follow what Blake says. but even when being a compliment captive, they are still, fighting! Every time they talk with Blake and try to get closer to him is them fighting! They are working to try and free themselves from him at all moments because as far as they know, no one is going to come looking for them.

The inversion is good because it plays on a persons fear of being useless. Every listener who’s partner is in the ward feels useless because they are useless, that’s the point, that don’t need saving, their partners do. The people needing saving are fighting with everything that have. Lovely fights, is one of the best fighters in there, and then has all that power taken away when their turned (I’ll call back to this in a bit) freelancer feels like their useless, but their not, Gavin admits later that he would have died if they didn’t help him. They comforted him when they themselves didn’t feel and comfort, they knew he needed it, and that’s incredibly powerful.

Moving on, the next conflict, porter! (Idc if their are other fights and shit in between this I wanna talk about this(:<<<) lovely punching porter! It’s honestly the cherry on the cake for lovely. They, since the beginning, have felt like “the damsel in destress”. They had to be saved by Vincent from Adam twice (him trancing them and the the kidnapping) and then they could finally protect themselves with magic, they won first place for being so powerful!! And then, the same day, they lost all of it. They where saved again. They must have felt absolutely powerless for months. Then, Porter. They meet this guy who, as far as they know, is a massive dick to their partner. So when taking to him, they punch him for being a dick. they do something about it. Sure they wasn’t a place where anyone was in real danger, but they did something with their power to protect Vincent. It’s a very nice ‘full circle’ moment for them. From having Vincent have to stick up for them at every turn (in their mind) them sucker punching Porter for Vincent is just such a nice way to wrap that up. To show that they can and will take care of themselves and others.

Anyway that ramble was really long and it was mostly just supposed to be about why in like all of my fics I’m going to have a scene where the listener character is a bad ass and sticks up for themselves because I hate when the voiceless character is made useless.

okay i’ve been distracted all day at work thinking about my thoughts re: the vampire academy reveal so here we go: ⬇️

rose: sisi stringer gets my tick of approval (not that anyone cares lmao), she is gorgeous she is fierce (and she’s australian so you KNOW i’m gonna support her) and i am HERE for some diversity in the cast. questioning the description where it says she’s the strongest fighter in her class because uhh she missed two years of training right? i’m assuming lissa and rose still ran away in this adaption?? she was so bad at combat that dimitri had to train her out of hours just to catch her up to her peers?? not a huge negative for me though, we all know rose is a badass & she caught up super quick to her classmates anyway so not a big deal

lissa: daniela nieves looks sweet but also like she could stab you, which is exactly the vibe is get from lissa (except lissa wouldn’t stab someone ofc, she would just compel them into thinking they were stabbed). i don’t mind that she doesn’t look like book lissa, but i do wonder if it will effect the little insecurities and jealousies that rose has around lissa in the books, but honestly they aren’t pivotal to the plot so idc. also i know everyone is talking about the “younger sister to the heir apparent” part of her description, honestly i think this is just in reference to andre taking the title of prince dragomir not the actual throne, but i could be wrong idk we’ll see and i mean she ends up as queen anyway soooo

dimitri: i was sold at kieron moore’s cheekbones tbh. and he’s actually 24! that’s right folks normal twenty-four years olds don’t look thirty! i’m loving his insta interactions already so i feel like he’s captured who dimitri is already, and i’m sure he can put on a russian accent perfectly well please please let him have a russian accent. still wondering if they will mess with his age, but i’m going to assume he’s still 24, judging by the description, and that maybe rose has been aged up?? idk, i just can’t wait to see him with long hair and a duster

christian: YES. andrè dae kim is 100% the closest character visually to what i imagined! love this!! getting the vibe that he’ll be the one to make the st vladimir connection? book christian didn’t come off as being very studious, except when it came to helping lissa, but he was also a total smartass so who knows what he got up to outside of rose’s POV. very keen to see that his backstory isn’t being brushed off and overall absolutely love him!!

victor: i never actually gave much thought to how victor looks, so j august richards is great in my books! i’m very keen to see some lgbtq+ representation in this series, but i’m kinda concerned that they’ve chosen (who i presume will be) the series’ villain to be the one in a same-sex relationship?? i’m also a bit confused & very curious about him having two daughters?? natalie is such a pivotal part of book one, unless they’re splitting her part into two i’m not sure how this would work? though a part of me wonders if they’re going to make robert doru’s character a child of victor’s, or even avery lazar’s character his child?? idk but should be interesting

tatiana: VOGEL??? this is where i get super confused. she sounds like tasha (without the relation to christian), but her name is tatiana but she’s also clearly not queen tatiana soooo ??? i saw a very cool post from @sydneysageivashkov talking about how they think there might be multiple timelines involved, in which case vogel could be a maiden/married name for queen tatiana?? that would be cool. regardless, not really sure what is happening here but i guess we’ll see 🤷🏼‍♀️

mia: KARP??? again, i am confused. i can definitely see her having book mia’s doll-like cute features, and i’m not too fussed about her not having the curly blonde hair tbh as someone who has naturally curly blonde hair i absolutely hate seeing others with it because of the second hand pain lmao. now getting to the part we all actually care about in mia’s description: lgbtq+ mia!! oh my fuckin god i am HEEEEEERE for this, mia has always been gay let’s be real here folks, i love this. also is she going to be related to sonya karp?????? questionsssss

meredith: tbh i sometimes forget that meredith exists so seeing her as a main character is uhhh ??? weird ???? is she replacing eddie? god i fuckin hope not. maybe she’s one of victor’s children?? idk. it’s weird but i’m curious to see where they’re going with her, plus it’s be good to see more female dhampirs because let’s be honest we don’t really see anyone other than rose and eventually dimitri’s family in the book series

sonya: ARE WE GETTING PRE-STRIGOI SONYA??? ohhhh i am KEEN. not sure how it’ll effect the storyline, maybe it’ll be told through flashbacks, again going back to the multiple timelines idea? also mikhail????? i didn’t think the books brought him into it until later, but idk i love them sm i am so excited for this. sonya is a little younger than i imagined, but i actually don’t see that as being a bad thing. also is she related to mia now???

mason: aw i’m gonna be sad if he doesn’t have red hair i won’t lie, but at the end of the day it’s really about attitude with mason and i think andrew liner will pull it off really well. his description seems to be pretty on-character, but it looks like the tv show is maybe going to play some sort of classmate rivalry between mason and rose?? could be interesting, idk, still looks like he’s gonna be a big simp for rose though lmao bless

so yeah i have concerns buuuuut i’m gonna wait it out and see what they do with it. lemme know what you guys think too!! x

Overall: The final instalment of the Ember Quartet had us crying in the metaphorical club. It’s exciting, terrifying, and probably the horniest book in the series and we loved it!

~Spoiler-full discussion below~

The Good:

→ Elias and Laia

Geena: In the final instalment of the Ember quartet, Sabaa deprives us of an Elias POV and slaps us with the Soulcatcher instead… He’s very much an ‘emotions are bad’ type of dude, the opposite of Elias who always had so many… but both of them are so angsty? The Soulcatcher really likes to beat up trees when his memories from when he was Elias resurface which was so emo to me. Despite being possessed by Mauth he is also such a coward, especially around Laia, because Elias’ feelings for Laia scare him and every single time he is like *running emoji*. We were surprised that Sabaa let him remain the soulcatcher for so long, every chapter I was like ‘Okay, maybe this is where Elias breaks through…’ but no.. Elias remained buried UNTIL their night in the cabin… the Soulcatcher was like ‘k I’m out’ but ONLY for ONE NIGHT and that still makes me scream.. The Soulcatcher was like ‘you kids are too horny for me, I’m gonna take a nap for a bit and let Elias take over bc Jesus.’ 

Despite it all, the Soulcatcher’s chapters were enjoyable albeit painful because this man was so duty bound, like even Elias wasn’t that dedicated when he was a Mask. But near the end, when we finally get the chapter that starts with Elias…. Ngl I cried a little, and immediately wanted to reread the whole series (I feel like Sabaa did this on purpose to torture us). I want to fight Sabaa though, like she did an amazing job showing how Elias’ conscious and the Soulcatcher’s conscious were constantly fighting one another, and how Elias’ memories of the people he loved ultimately fuelled the Soulcatcher’s actions… even though the Soulcatcher was like ‘I’m doing this for the ghosts’ like okay… no ghost told you to keep protecting and kissing Laia but you still did it…  

Kae: Okay, so Geena summed up my boy Ilyaas pretty damn well. Also, we LOVE HIS ETHNIC NAME IN THIS HOUSE. But um, YES. Elias was a sad boy ™ the whole time while fighting his emotions and ultimately losing. It was so PAINFUL as a reader, seeing all of  his chapters except the ONE say ‘Soulcatcher’. But when it finally said ELIAS again, I too, started to cry. Because he was BACK. 

You can all thank the power of Laia’s determination to seduce Elias back to himself, because our girl was NOT giving up. She said ‘you gonna get this coochie, dammit’ and in the cabin, Elias was like ‘well i’ll be damned. I sure as hell am. I am BACK BAYBEEEEE’

Geena: Sabaa Tahir said horny rights like ksjdnfdsjknfsdk

Kae: AUFVAHLHVKJ. BUT YES. In the end, love won. And so did sex because everyone was doin it or TRYING to do it. I guess when the world is ending, you only get one last time to uhh…. Have a good time. So they made sure they did lmao 

Now, let’s get into Laia. 

Laia. My sweet little cupcake. My mug of tea with too much honey. This girl has been through literal hell and back, and yet, she kept going. She NEVER gave up. Laia woke up in book 4 like ‘Today i will commit crimes. Helene and I crave violence’ and they both just started kicking ASS and I LOVED THAT. I was really happy to see the progression of Laia and Helen’s friendship and how they genuinely grew to like one another and see each other as besties. They both deserved a girl friend and I’m glad they found a friendship within each other. 

Laia is the bravest character in this damn book. She went from poor scholar, to slave, to hero and she was brave because she had to be. Laia is strong and took on their entire world. She had help, but she did a lot of it alone and that takes some real guts. She is the most genuine, sweetest, bravest girl and I love her. <3 

Laia also single handedly brought the Ilyaas back from his Soulcatcher shit. During this whole book she was just like ‘You know what? I think I’mma go mess with Elias’ emo ass today to see if I can get him to kiss me or something’ THEN SHE PROCEEDED TO SHOW UP AT THIS MANS HOUSE (realm or whatever) BUTTASS NEKKID. And he saw her and immediately flew the hell out of there it was TOO MUCH and he LIKED IT but couldn’t admit it. 

Geena: You know what I love about that whole scene was like earlier she was like ‘He’s a lost cause idc’ and then Darin was like ‘Elias wouldn’t give up on you if that happened’ and Laia was like ‘you’re right, he would show up stark naked and try to seduce me back to my body’ and she did just that...

Kae: SHE DID. SHE SHOWED UP AND SHOWED OUT! Like, her entire mission was to bring Elias back while also planning on taking down the Nightbringer. But she was straight up like ‘okay but not before i get my man back through SEDUCTION’. Ugh, the mango scene?  Superb. 

Geena: Laia is hands down one of my favourite book characters to exist. Her journey from the first book being a scared girl with a missing brother, to being the face of a revolution… like the GROWTH. Like Kae mentioned, she and Helene end up as BESTIIEESSSS, and I was surprised at how natural they seemed. Because we went from them hating each other to close friends, but despite not seeing their development, it came off so natural? So, I loved that! 

Kae covered Laia’s character pretty thoroughly, she was both a horndog and a bad bitch. Like this girl has pretended to be a Slave for the Commandment to travelling a desert by herself and facing off a squad of Jinn… In retrospect, Laia is a unique case, she’s allowed to be kind and caring and doesn’t have to be a fighter type to be strong. She’s not the chosen one, which this book made clear, it could’ve been anyone to fight the Nightbringer… but only Laia was strong enough to love him AND defy him. And I just love her a lot… she was very much an anime protagonist with the power of love, family, and friendship… anyways I love her and that’s all I have to say

→ Helene 

Geena: The way I ended up liking and rooting for Helene this book? Came out of left field. To be honest, in previous books I didn’t feel much for her other than ‘stop chasing after Elias and Laia pls.’ But this book I wanted her to win, especially with the fight against the germanic-esque invaders. She goes through substantial development, no longer seeing Scholars as slaves and taking their opinions seriously.. Like Laia, Musa, and Darin were all a part of her crew. A stark difference from Book 1 Helene, who thought Scholars only had one role in the world and that was slaves. 

Helene… like Laia… really has the Ember equivalent of hot girl summer with Harper… all the time she spends denying it she is like *jumps on him the chance she gets*. The bath scene… Helene’s power was turning her tortuer into her MAN… But also Sabaa said that ‘yes she has changed, but she has to repent for her sins’ and that’s why Helene is basically left alone at the end (save for Laia, Elias, and Musa). 

Kae: So not gonna lie, I never actually disliked Helene. I saw her as the flawed character she was in the beginning. During her cat and mouse chase with Elias and Laia in the beginning, she would piss me OFF because like, that’s your BEST FRIEEEEEND. JUST STAAAAHP. But also, it was him or her and her family's death, so I get it. But I always saw potential in her to be better. And thank GOODNESS she went through all that character development. Because she was a damn menace in the beginning. 

Also like Geena mentioned; Helly and Harper finally hooking up? I swear the heavens opened up in that moment because EVERYONE could feel their tension. LIKE JUST DO IT ALREADY. You can’t fight love, baybeeee

Watching Helly grow as a person was really rewarding as a reader. Like Geena said, she went from hating scholars to being like ‘hmm, maybe my opinions are shitty?’ and straight up changed.  I also feel for her because she lost her ENTIRE family and like, honestly? I would’ve given up. BUT SHE DIDN’T. She’s a literal fighter, bred for this shit. So she FOUGHT. And I was really scared she was gonna get murked because y’all know Keris’ tiny evil ass doesn’t have a chill button. And when they were fighting? I was like LAWD PLS DON’T  TAKE HELLY. But instead he took Harper *upside down smiley face* SO THAT WAS FUCKED UP AND I WASN’T READY FOR IT. But a piece of me knew it was coming. 

The Bad:   

→ Darin and Harper

Geena: As Kae mentioned… Harper kicked the can in this book :’( His eventual fall came from loving and caring for Helene too much, which left him open and gave Keris the chance to stab him. Harper was basically Helene’s heart outside her body, and when he went down so did Helene. I had had a feeling when Book 3 ended that Harper wouldn’t make it, but I WASN’T HAPPY ABOUT BEING RIGHT FOR ONCE… Harper had finally met his brother (Elias) and hadn’t even had a chance to meet the real Elias and talk to him about their father or other sibling stuff. LIKE OF ALL CHARACTER DEATHS… AND THERE WAS A LOT… The other one that came out of left field was fucking Darin of Serra… DARIN… THE ONE DUDE WE SPENT TWO WHOLE BOOKS SAVING… DEAD WITH A SNAP OF HIS NECK!! I WAS SO MAD

LIKE SABAA HAD US THINKING HE WAS GONNA BE SAFE, SHE GAVE HIM A LIL GIRLFRIEND AND EVERYTHING BUT THEN SHE GOES.. AND KILLS HIM?? JUST LIKE THAT?? Then we had to read the scenes where Elias helps both Darin and Harper pass over into the afterlife and I was just *cries angrily* 

Kae: Well, THAT was sad. Have you ever just like, felt your heart break into a million tiny irreparable pieces? That’s how I felt when Darin and Harper died. Because like, they were both trying to save the women they loved. Darin to Laia, (foolishly so against the Nightbringer) but I would do it for my little sister too. And Harper with Helene against evilass Keris. Dude, that shit just sucked. It hurt to read. It hurt to imagine the girls feeling the pain of their deaths. They were both such good men. And DARIIIN. 

Darin didn’t have to go out like that, man. It was such a harsh death. No last words. It was just over and his body was just gone. I wish Laia would’ve been able to talk with him at The Waiting Place at least one last time. But it is what it is. I hated to see both of them go. Especially since Darin pretty much sparked this whole series. 

Sure, Laia, Helene, and Elias were the main characters. But Darin was the spark that started the fire. And he didn’t even get to see it’s flames extinguished. 

Geena: He was the ember in the ashes… literally like Sabaa uses that for Elias and Laia but it applies to Darin the most

Kae: LITCHRALLY gonna get teary eyed over here. Our boys deserved better :( 

Conclusion 

Geena: This was not at all a disappointing end to the series we’ve followed closely for so long. The different plot points and character arcs were tied up nicely, and Sabaa Tahir showed us once again why she’s one of the best fantasy writers on this side of the Milky Way. We didn’t even bother including a ‘The Ugly’ section because we loved it too much ksfmsd. The only qualm I’d have with the end was the empire remaining, Helene recognized the Scholars as equals but centuries of pain isn’t easily forgotten you know? SO THAT’S WHY I THINK WE DESERVE A SEQUEL SERIES… BUT I DIGRESS… OVERALL, I loved this book and the ending for all the characters ESPECIALLY FOR OUR GIRL LAIA <3

Kae: YES. I AGREE 100% WITH GEENA. It was such a beautiful end to the series. Sabaa is  GENIUS and her storytelling is phenomenal. I loved every little surprise she’s hidden in all of the books. ESPECIALLY WITH COOK BEING ALIVE? I DIDN’T SEE THAT SHIT COMING AT ALL. LIKE HOLY SHIT? So Laia had some remaining family afterall, and I think that’s very sweet. I’m really sad to see the series be over with and Geena and I are both *~HOPIIIING~* for an epilogue or some little crumbs or SOMETHING with the gang and how their lives ended up into middle adulthood or something. 

Geena: I would literally take a single paragraph… Ms. Tahir…. Blease…

Kae: But yes, in conclusion, Laia has a heart of gold and we LOVE HER. She’s brave and strong and smart, and was the only one out of THOUSANDS to stick for herself and defy the Nightbringer, and save the whole world. Helene has come a long way and she developed beautifully as a character. And Elias. Ohhh, Ilyaas. His continued self sacrifice and bravery and love still helped him live in the end and I think that’s beautiful.

Who are your favourite asoiaf characters and why? Love your art and your answers 😁😁💙

Thank you soooo much anon 💕💕💕 I'm super glad you asked for favourite asoiaf characters and not pre-asoiaf because then we'd be here ALL YEAR and next year too. I'm also glad you said asoiaf and not GoT because the latter can officially do one. Semantics and specifics matter a great deal after all😉

I'm just going to be brief because I don't want to ramble on too long, but I fear this will end up being a long post anyway so I'll leave it under the cut. 

1. Daenerys Stormborn Targaryen: I love everything about her, from the top of her perpetually singed head to her 'dainty sandaled feet'. She embodies all that is great about House Targaryen. I've loved Dany from the very beginning, she was the abused underdog, the expendable chattel, the broodmare- but she ended up as the mother of dragons and the magnificent queen we now know her as 😍 She's been to hell and back, she's clawed her way back up to the top of the organic pile that is life and she has flourished. She's endured betrayal and hardship but she's learnt so much from it at her young age :') Dany is wise but conflicted, young and naive, merciful but ruthless when she needs to be and the destiny and magic that seems to surround her just add to her charisma and intrigue. She's the last scion of her house, the last dragon, and she's determined to leave her mark but with none of the arrogant entitlement that was the downfall of many members of her house. Her relationship with her advisers is something that humanises her a great deal and she had me hooked when she wanted to be a good ruler who would protect her people.

"Why do the gods make kings and queens, if not to protect the ones who can't protect themselves?"

I'm rooting for her so bad. Dany carries the eclectic history of her house with her, the blood of the dragon runs strongly through her veins and magnifies her excellence a million times over. She is a sister, a daughter, a mother to legends! At the heart of it, she wants to make the world a better place, to end oppression and slavery and injustice because she too has endured it.

“Slavery is not the same as rain. I have been rained on and I have been sold. It is not the same. No man wants to be owned.”

But despite all that, she's still a young girl with a young girl's heart and she makes mistakes and lapses of judgement BUT WHO IS PERFECT I ASK YOU? Even the most benign and just rulers in history had their flaws, they made mistakes, but it's what they achieve overall that matters. GRRM has created the perfect fantasy ruler in Daenerys Targaryen: she's complex, realistic, interesting and very human. She's got a good heart, a sharp mind, she's not infallible and has never asked to be held to impossible standards. I am in awe of her, I am enraptured, I am obsessed, SHE'S MA KWEEN OK❤😭

2. Jon Snow: I used to struggle to choose between Jon and Dany, but obviously Dany won as my numero uno in the end. I love this sassy, sullen boy so much, good lord he's everything ❤ Jon and Dany's parallels are uncanny. They're both such young people trying to do what they think is right (& it often is idc). I remember myself at 16 and I kid you not I was an actual troglodyte in comparison to those two. Anyway Jon is inherently a good person, but he's ruthless and flawed too and that's what I love about him. He's no self righteous niminy piminy chit. He's the bastard™ of Winterfell and if some meanie isn't already reminding us of that fact, then Jon does it himself haha. But I love how assertive he is too and doesn't take BS from anyone!

"I think not Greyjoy, this one belongs to me," was so iconic! I knew that boy was destined for greatness when he found himself a direwolf pup unlike any other! His love for his family is also very touching, despite being the familial outcast, he adores Robb and Arya and the others too (he’s never shown any animosity towards Sansa either) and he idolises his ‘father’ Ned too, and emulates his sense of honour and justice. He's so world weary and just done with everyone's shit 24/7 but he's a sweetheart too and honestly, I'd happily die fighting by his side. Like Dany, I admire his rise from a mere steward to the Lord Commander, I love that he makes questionable choices for the greater good (ahem like his father) and I love that he was born with a great destiny (unbeknownst to him) & he faces pitfalls at every turn but does he give up? No he does not.

P.S "Edd, fetch me a block" will be carved upon my tombstone. ICONIC.

3. Arya Stark: my little wolf child. I would have rolled over and died if I'd been through what she has, but her brains, her intuition and her heart has kept her thriving. I love how badass she is. As someone born with two left feet, I admire her agility and resilience so much. Arya is a survivor and a hardy little pup, she’s amicable, empathetic towards the less advantaged, she is touched with the milk of human kindness despite all that she endures BUT she has a darker side too (can you blame her?). Arya gazes into the abyss and the abyss gazes back. I personally love it, I love the vengeance that drives her, fuck magnanimity and forgiveness, if someone fucks with your family or friends, stick 'em with the pointy end.

4. Jaime Lannister: I love this golden fuckboy so much. I remember reluctantly hating him in AGoT but I still admired his flair and cockiness, he was such an arse! Long story short, when I got to see the real Jaime Lannister in the later books, the deep conflict that roiled within him, the noble knight that had been suppressed so long due to bad company and an even worse reputation. But what I love is that alongside all his gilded splendour, Jaime is a highly skilled fighter, a focused and loyal and emphatic man. He's not a charlatan or an inept fool. He fully deserves the acclaim. And let's not forget, Jaime's redemption arc was eye-wateringly epic. I loved his sense of humour, his good heart (once you chipped away at it for a while), the perpetual discord within him and his renewed moral code that emerged like a phoenix from the ashes. A massive thanks to Brienne of Tarth for helping to expose the Jaime we love and adore.

5. Tyrion Lannister: his cut-glass wit, intelligence and world weariness resonate with me on a deep level. GRRM literally created the most liveliest, intriguing character out of this scarred, little morsel of flesh. Tyrion is physically disadvantaged but his mind is sharper than ten men his age. He reads religiously, because a mind needs a book like a sword needs a whetstone, and anyone who can apply the wisdom of the past to better the present is worthy of admiration in my eyes. I loved his whole storyline as Hand of the King, we got to see him actually work for the good of the people of KL (for all the thanks he got lmao) and I love how competent and clever he is. Obviously he has a nasty, self motivated streak too but it doesn't turn me away, I love following his mind around the twists and turns of his murky conscience. Ultimately, Tyrion is a survivor and a hustler and he always manages to squeeze out of tight spots, not down to any legendary pugilistic skills but his quick wits.

I could say so much more about these characters but I shan't keep you any longer.

Wanna know what Mai and Aang have in common?

They are normally the two biggest recipients of, honestly, really stupid accusations.

Aang is apparently abusive in that he kissed Katara once while she wasn't very consenting to it at the time.

He's 12 and does stupid things but please hold him accountable for all time despite how disappointed in himself he looked right after. He didn't even pursue her after she stepped back. He saw his error and pulled away.

He apparently doesn't care about Katara? Despite literally giving up his chance to take full control of his avatar state just to go save her from a vision that may or may not have been real. I mean he could have just been like...ok...meh...Idc. Avatar state yip yip!

Then in LOK he just used her as a baby maker...never mind that apparently Katara had enough power or sway to outlaw bloodbending. Plus...guys...she's old when we see her in that series and has always been more family centered.

Not saying she became just a regular housewife after she married Aang but as stated before, she old! She's been through enough and if she wants some peace and solitude after dealing with the loss of her Friends, her Brother, and her Husband than...let the woman be pls. Even Toph didn't really want to fight anymore since old age had finally cought up with her and she's younger than Katara! If she doesn't want to fight but instead heal, let her do as she pleases. Plus you all sound like being a housewife and taking care of your children is a death sentance. Not all fighters are in the battle all the time.

Somehow Aang is also depicted as only seeing Katara as a trophy...Honestly I don't see how this got so convoluted but anyone who saw the series can say he doesn't think or her that way. He loves her, sees her as his best friend, and as probably one of the best masters to ever teach him. He's shown her tremendous respect as a friend, pupil, and love interest. He's listened to her and has grown from her wisdom.

Its also just crapping all over Katara as a character when people have this line of thinking. She's stronger than that, and would never be a prize to anyone, not even the avatar. If she wants to be with him she will. Kinda like how in the last episode when Aang walks out, she follows and is the one to kiss him.

I've always seen them as opposites, not in elements but in personalities. Also their similarites tend to correlate too!

Katara is at times a stick in the mud and Aang helps her have a childhood with the fun he brings her. She's had to grow up fast and undertake a lot of chores around her village. She's strong and outspoken, at times very loudly. She's passionate, even in the face of supposed peril, where there is no way she can prevail. She's strong and cares for others, almost to a fault since she took up precious days till the eclipse to help firenation people she didnt know.

Aang is a playful soul that hates being tied down. He'd rather have fun, and has been raised to seek leisure instead of responsibility. Its because of this that makes him so childish, until he meets her and is shown that his destiny is to bring balance to the world. He may not be physically strong but like Katara he isn't weak willed. He's passionate about protecting people and bringing harmony back to the four nations. While his passion isn't quite so loud, he can inspire people.

She's helped curb his childishness, and has helped instill in him responsibility. She won't let him shirk things off or procrastinate. She even was willing to let Aang learn waterbending without her because it was for the greater good.

Through these actions she's helped Aang embrace his old soul vibe and have it feel justified. He sees through her that what he does now will have an impact on the world and he best be getting to it.

I've always seen them as a couple that is silly, cute, and can get things done. I can see them being older and being more familiar with each other and it can lead to them having very intense intimate energy. I mean in the series, they're kids so...not really into thinking about them that way at that age. They can communate well so, there will be less fights and a lot of understanding. Definitely not boring.

As for Mai well...apparently people just don't understand her sense of humor and personality. She's got dry humor and is very direct in a lot of things. She doesn't sugar coat things and shys away from expression a lot of times.It somehow comes off as abusive?

Her telling Zuko to never break up with her again is supposed to be a joke, seeing as the last time he did, she literally had to save his bum from being boiled alive...

Then you have the infamous scene where they were together again after season 2 and while Zuko angsts, Mai tries to redirect his thoughts from such dark depths. Honestly, what do you say to that? Should you say its going to be ok? Because that just seems empty amd shallow.

Plus Mai, being emotionally stunted, doesn't really know how to navigate emotional waters. You also have to keep in mind that they finally get to have a conversation after all these years so obviously they aren't going to really know one another and how to communicate well.

So her not coddling and not letting him angst over things neither of them can know or deal with till it actually happens is dismissive of his abuse? I don't thinks so. Its honestly saying we will have to wait and see how things have changed once you are actually back home, so lets not dwell on them so much.

Of course, then you have her bringing up what happened last time Zuko was in a war meeting which is somehow abusive too. You know, its the same thing Iroh brought up in season 1 Ep. 3. So Iroh is abusive too now. It feels like people are saying don't bring up someone's abuse, ever, even if its to help them from potentially repeating the same pain.

She's trying to stop him caring and in her very direct way says that its not worth the pain of what could happen again if he attends. She's genuinely worried about him and doesn't want him hurt more physically or emotionally.

Then they like to say Mai doesn't care about Zuko really and that she just likes his status. They also say she's abusive with how she doesn't like anything he does for her. The biggest scene used is from the Beach showing Mai non-plussed by him giving her a shell and ice cream.

For one, Zuko wasn't acting like Zuko at all that first bit of the episode. He didn't take into account what Mai liked as apposed to what other girls liked. I mean while Ty Lee may like the shell, does that mean every girl has to like it otherwise they're a complete bish? Also...who here likes having ice cream fall on them? Honestly Mai could have made a huge deal about getting it on her but chose to crack a wry, but as always, dry joke about it.

Also please note that in this same episode Mai deals with an abusive S/O very correctly. Zuko's been acting off and it culminates with him pushing a guy back who happened to be talking to her. He makes a scene and insults her in front of everyone once she calls him out on his actions. Does she get even and call him worse? Nope. She simply says that their relationship is over and thats it. Though she looks conflicted by this, she stands firm despite Zuko trying to get handsy with her twice later in the episode. She holds him accountable but says she still loves him. I'd have an issue with this if they didnt have Zuko tell her and everyone whats been eating at him so long.

If she didnt know whats been making him act so hostile and crazy then how can she know that Zuko's not just an abusive jerk showing his true colors after all this time. Not saying that it made his actions right, but I feel her knowing the why instead of leaving it a mystery helped Mai reason through forgiving him.

As for her just wanting the power of his position, thats just really, really, really, lazy. She's from a noble family and is friends with the firenation princess...or as I like to say, unfortunately trapped in Azula's orbit. She'd be well off as it is if she kept her connection to Azula, but she didn't. She chose to go against a firebending prodigy, essentially turning her back on the firenation and her family to save the jerk who dumped her by letter.

Nope! Mai doesn't give a Flamio about Zuko himself. She just wants his title.

Opposites seem to attract and in this case its definitely with personalities since...ya know...Mai can't bend elements.

Zuko is passionately driven to a scary degree. He's hyper focused on finding the avatar despite the 100 years no one's seen them. He can be hot tempered and easily set off. He cares for people even to the point he'd rather starve than rob pregnant couple for food. He's brash, and doesn't think things through.

Mai is quietly, but strongly passionate for Zuko, even if its detrimental to her as with challenging Azula. She has learned to keep her temper and other emotions under lock and key, and is not easily set off. She cares about those she's put time and energy into. She's fairly classy, choosing her words wisely and she's definitely done a lot of thinking about what she wants or needs to do as far as her actions.

Zuko's shown that its ok to be expressive, and that its ok for her to do so. He wants to see her free of her parents emotional abuse so that she won't be so guarded.

Through Mai's personality, she's helped temper....Zuko's temper. He won't be so quick to flip his lid and do things without thinking them through. Like fire to a knife Zuko's helped make Mai burn bright and she's given him a sheith for his wild emotions.

I've always seen them as the quiet but intense love kinda couple. They may not have the best communication skills and this could lead to a lot of arguments but their love for one another is stronger. Eventually the sands of time will smooth them, break down walls and allow them to understand one another better.

I'm all for pretty much any ship in atla, and I love how fanfiction can actually help strengthen my love for it more than the actual show. The creativity and OOC that some writers pull off can be amazing and help you really like a character in a certain way or open your eyes to a new pairing.

However, if you wanna like ships, like them because you can, but don't go and take obviously innocent things and blow them out of proportion.

Here is convoluted, misconstrued, out of context information to say person X is evil and shouldnt be with person Y. W shouldn't be with person Z....therefore, Person Z and Person Y should be together because their partners are obviously abusive.

The...What? Three to maybe five episodes of screentime together as begrudgingly budding friends is enough to show exactly how they will be if they got together. Which these episodes can bring about interestingly creative ideas, however people act like that this is the definitive reason Z/Y should be together and any other pairing with the other two is completely abusive.

Just to be clear...if you like Zutara, thats great, I do too. I can imagine them in any number of ways. Them being enemies to lovers, or knowing each other before becoming star crossed lovers, or everythings all good in the univers and they love each other so so much!

However, in none of these headcannons do I see the need to bash Aang or Mai. I don't need to come up with stupid reasonings for Zuko and Katara to be together. If I want them to be together in a story or piece of art, I'll do it and be classy about it. I won't have Katara say Aang assaulted her and fly into Zuko's arms, pushing Mai down saying she's a manipulative bish. Because...she and Aang aren't.

At all.

Im just tired of the mental gymnastics shippers go through to spread hate for one ship so they can have another. Half the time its not even true facts but just people seeing it from an angle that aligns with their agenda.

If you like something, you like it, but don't crap on other ships or characters wrongly to justify it.

Sorry if this is a mess but god, seeing most of these accusations against Aang had me honestly cringing. I thought it was mainly against Mai because...she got Zuko and isn't bubbly, motherly, and...well Katara. So when Anti-Kataang reasons somehow showed up on the old dash, I felt my faith in humanity plummet.

Like...I hope you guys can sleep well at night knowing you've literally slandered a cinnamon roll who's in touch with his feelings, something most of you would protect if it where for any other ship. Like people just starting the series potentially arent going to be too keen on Aang himself at all simply because of this misinformation. But no...just to have one ship you equated this kid to a sexually abusive monster. Good job. 10/10. Slow 👏 for you guys. Be proud.

I finished watching Cheese in the Trap a couple of days ago. First of all, I am so in love with this drama, it’s excellent. It has everything - romance, humor, mistery, great acting, which is the most important, and character diversity. It’s pretty much dynamic, which makes it easy to watch, and not only that but 1st ep is more than enough to make you addicted…

It’s unbelievebly realistic. A lot of characters actually remind me of people I know and people in my life. Do I even have to say that Bo-ra and Eun-taek are amazing friends anyone would die to have.

 I personally have never met people like these two, and honestly I hope with my whole heart that someday I do (god, pls make it soon.) 

Obviously they have a special place in my heart when it comes to this drama, they’re so pure. I am sure all of viewers fell in love with these two ever since ep 1.

Seol is such an amazing character. Strong and independant, she’s a real fighter. I don’t mean she does martial arts, but the way she works so hard to make her life better, the effort she puts into everything she does, makes her a hero of the show.

She doesn’t have much, but people envy her because of her determination and strong will to finish her studies, because of her great scores (grades), she’s a perfectionist. In all that aditude towards life, she kept her soft side intact, and she’s not the kind of person who would use another to reach her goals. 

She’s one of the good ones, a bit of an introvert, but kind, reliable, and so fluffyyyyyy.. I’ve already mentioned how I aways wanted my baby sister to be just like her (if I had a baby sister, but I don’t.) 

Two of the most irritating charaters are definitely Son Min-soo and Kim Sang-cheol. They are both Seol’s classmates, but Sang-cheol is her senior who seems like he’s never going to finish his studies. Min-soo is a very shy girl who admires Seol, but eventually ends up cosplaying her lol 

I really really really can’t stand those two. And I will ignore Seol's stalker because that guy is so fake to me, I can't even describe it. They put him in the show to literally make the episodes longer...so I won't be talking about him, that whole character is just absurd.

While I’m still at less prefered characters, I have to mention Baek In-ha played by amazing Lee Sung Kyung. 

I don’t care what anybody says, she’s one of my favourites ever since the beginning. She is hilarious! 

Ok, I admit that materialism is not the greatest trait, and neither is neuroticism, but if you seriously think about her, she’s been through hell. Both she and her brother. I cannot judge a person who’s been abused ever since early childhood, and if the worst thing she’s capable to do is max out a credit card, then go for it, idc, money is here to be spent and the man who took these siblings in is filthy rich. Anyways, she’s hilarious, and behind that neurotic facade is a person full of love and despair. 

Plus her fashion sense is to die for! 

Ok, and now about Yoo Jung. The weirdo. Definition of an introvert. Son of that guy who took in In-ha and In-ho. The best student at uni. Extremely popular. Handsome. Powerful. Every girl wants to date him. He’s actually an anti-hero. I would dare to mark him as a bad guy. And honestly, I am a sucker for those kind of guys. He would kill for Seol if he could.

That’s what I love about him. And I have a feeling that’s what Seol loves about him too. What he seeks from his loved ones is devotion, honesty, unconditional love. If murder was legal, he’d do it for those he loves. And boy can he hold a grudge… But when you sum it up, drama makes you see that people were asking for it. Not all the time, but mainly that was the case. They did incredibly stupid things, and he was sick of it. The only thing he did which actually made me dislike him is framing In-ho to get the beatings of his life and a completely crushed hand which was the ultimate punishment for a great piano player like In-ho. That is so cruel I cannot imagine why would anyone who ever loved somebody like a brother do such thing to him. Often I thought he’s actually a psychopath, for his lack of empathy… I don’t know what to think of him… I like him more than I don’t. 

He’s got a lot of characteristics I’m crazy about but a lot of those which I’d run away from right away too.

I know there was a big fuss about the ending… I didn’t mind it personally. Could they make it a bit better? Yes. Definitely. But it wasn’t too bad in my opinion. At least Jung finally opened Seol’s email after passing by her on the street and I have a feeling that’s a new beginning for them. It would be nice to work on that and make a season 2. There’s a webtoon for all those who want more, if I’m not wrong. Comment bellow if you want to add some info about that. 

For the end, I’ll say something about my favourite character. Baek In-ho.

He’s loud. An extrovert. Fighter for justice. Hardworking. Honest. Righteous. Extremely handsome. Has a painful past. But then you find out he’s also an extremely talented pianist. He acts tough but he’s as soft as a marshmallow. He looks like a bad guy but wouldn’t hurt a fly. His emotional intelligence is super high. I understand why Seol never fell for him though. Girls like her never do. It’s like a natural order of things… Well, Seo Kang-joon did a great job playing Baek In-ho. And I am so happy he got a satisfying closure. He diserves it.
