was kinda thinking about this when I saw Renee Rapp live recently-- I didn't know her visual vibe, I'd heard a few songs here and there but I hadn't really *seen* her, and her attire at Osheaga was really casual, a jersey (baseball/basketball?) and slacks. And that was so amazing! I couldn't help thinking, the work Billie Eilish has done for how women in pop music are allowed to dress is incredible. Seeing her up there all comfortable you just know that Billie walked in her oversized tops so that Renee in her slacks could run; Billie walked through all the critcisms about how she dressed slobbily and having to assert that she didn't owe anyone a display of skin, so that Renee could be comfortable and unquestioned running up and down the catwalk in front of 10,000 people. How iconic.

And I don't think we even realised at the time how much something as simple as letting Billie dress the way she as a (then-) 17-year-old teenager dressed, could end up meaning for a future generation of women in music.

Obviously there is still way to go, there were weirdos complaining about how 'plain' Dua Lipa's Glastonbury outfit was this year (in 2024!!), l have to ask, are you at Paris Fashion Week?? She is the musical HEADLINER of an entire day of music at one of the biggest music festivals in the world, and you can't grant her the space to exist as an artist, you have to moan about her dress not being excitingly revealing enough. There's work to do, it's still dismal out there. But the space Billie Eilish has created for a most ordinarily-dressed woman popstar is still heartening.

when the mask comes off of barton, though (and i don't mean his literal mask in this case), i can tell y'all for sure that if your muse were to be around him while it happened... that they'd MOST DEFINITELY be able to tell about 9 times out of ten. because, as i've said before, barton has literally spent an almost frightening amount of time just observing people and tailoring his behavior to that.

and barton, of course, does this in terms of how he should react to certain situations / just how he should act in general in order to not raise suspicion. but sometimes another character may get him SO angry and/or they will do or say something that he views as a slight to him (like one particular trigger for him in regards to this is people saying that they 'see right through him,' or anything of that nature) — that it'll almost seem like barton will suddenly forget how to successfully mimic people.

because it honestly is true about what they say about the eyes being the 'window to the soul.' which is relevant to what i'm describing because the first thing that another hypothetical character here would notice is that all the life just kind of disappears from them, and the look that he gives them is cold. it's like barton is more of a shell of a person than anything else. he also tends to either get really quiet or explode based on the circumstances.

though, that's not all that happens. because although this isn't a guarantee, this is when another character might find barron at his most violent because he no longer has a reason to quote unquote 'hold himself back,' i guess you could say. and he's prone to lashing out physically at people after doing something like staring them down in the eye to see if they'll back down. and if they don't... he might just inhale as if this is the most irritating situation he's been in before doing whatever he was planning to do.

barton also gets a kick out of mocking others whenever he's like this, if i'm being honest. and although he usually prefers to use strength to overpower someone, he isn't above using psychological tactics to get someone to do what he wants them to do. + barton has and WILL do this in ways that might seem immature on rare occasions, though still enough for it to be noticeable. and i believe this is because people with ASPD tend to not mature emotionally + this is partially why they end up being so selfish.

but yeahhh. i know this is a super long post, BUT i just wanted to talk about this because although barton may be good at pretending, he also makes it terribly obvious sometimes that he doesn't as a rule 'think like other people'... as he is constantly having to fake things like empathy. though, this is still a problem area for him beyond cognitive empathy. and thus, to summarize this all, barton is mentally unwell; but he's also a bad person as he chooses to do the things he does in the end + is responsible for his actions.

Honestly, Man-Bat would be such a horrifying creature to stumble across in Gotham? At 8'6, he is HUGE, strong enough to carry off a man in his claws while barely slowing down. He might lack the same intelligence he had as Kirk Langstrom but Man-Bat still has keen problem-solving intellect such as picking up an entire wooden desk and throwing it at Batman to hold him in place long enough for an easy bite to the throat. It's that uncanny area between what was once human vs. a hyperpredator making Man-Bat one of the most dangerous creatures to cross whether he's simply hungry enough or has developed a grudge against you for some reason. You can't outrun him and there aren't many places you can hide because not only can he fly, he's able to squeeze into places you yourself would be able to fit into.

okay, so maybe he kept up with her more than he'd like to admit. vikram may have periodically looked up her up on instagram or facebook, scrolled through her feed with a joint in the other hand, and frequently thought her fiancé looked like a tool. maybe, sometimes, vikram would ask old college friends what his ex was up to, if maybe she asked around about him. it could've been possible. maybe, if he was at a bar at around midnight on a random thursday, he would've recognized his ex's current partner with their hand on someone else's ass.

it had been an innocent thing to start out with. in no way did vikram intend on spying, or even running into the fiancé in question, at that bar on a random thursday night. once he did see them, however... at first it was a questioning look, all 'hey, isn't that...?' and 'shit, i think that's...', but it quickly devolved into creepy staring. the way the affair partners were rubbing against each other and kissing as if there was buried treasure in their throats, his friends began to give vikram weird looks when they noticed that his attention had been stolen from them.

'you really that hard up, man?' gideon asked. vikram rolled his eyes, then explained what exactly he was looking at. his friend just laughed. 'maybe you should take a pic and send it to her. maybe you'll have a shot at getting her back.'

vikram had grimaced, as if that thought hadn't already occurred to him. he knew, even if her fiancé was betraying her, she'd never want to hear from him again. not after he had betrayed her, all those years ago. he wanted to be able to blame on it being young and stupid, but the truth was that he was old and stupid now, too. he had cheated on her because he was easily distracted. because he was high at a party. because he had been horny. because, ultimately, vikram wasn't a good person. and that he was stupid.

he had enough of the show. excusing himself from his friends, he slipped outside and dug his phone out of his pocket. bringing up his phone contacts, he scrolled until he found her name. vikram had hoped she didn't still have his number blocked, then pressed the call button:

"uhhh. oh. hi. maybe you don't remember me? it's me, vikram, from college. anyway, i was at mcswishey's on center street and i'm pretty sure i saw your fiancé making out with someone who was obviously not you. um, i took a photo. i could send it to you, if you wanted. so, i mean i don't know. i guess i just wanted you to know? so... i'm sorry."

Adding to more horror thoughts concerning Man-Bat but despite his animalistic tendancies, he is absolutely intelligent enough to lay basic traps? Man-Bat can reasonably gauge threats and plan how to deal with them accordingly, focusing on the most dangerous threat first such as whether or not they're armed with a gun or why they may he pursuing him. He may leave objects of interest (or kidnap victims) in plain view situated away from where he's hiding, giving him the perfect vantage point in which to observe the situation or launch a counter attack from.
