This is the first of several posts catching up on recent family history breakthroughs.
These are the fan charts for my paternal grandmother's parents, pre-July 1st and present. You can see there's been a great amount of expansion for both William Robert Roach and Hazel Louise Allen. Why these two in particular? Two words, Family Reunion.
It's been years since I attended a family reunion and even longer since I went to one for this section of the family. One such reunion, in 1976, included a pamphlet with the Allen family history that was absolutely vital when I started my own research over 20 years ago. When this reunion started coming together, I started making plans to continue that tradition with my own research.
Throughout July I used Ancestry and GeneaNet to pad out additional generations for both sides of the family, taking some back numerous generations. These charts were created in Reunion, the Mac-based genealogy software I've relied on for several decades now. Ancestry now offers a fan-chart for each person in your tree, but only going back two generations.
A few days before the gathering, I had the finalized charts printed in black and white on 3' by 4' blueprint paper and brought them for my aunts, uncles, and cousins to peruse. I also had my laptop, open to my Ancestry tree, able to bring up any individual profile, but also connect with distant cousins that have been doing their own research. There will be more to come on this, including an interesting story, so be sure to check back as I fill in more on my genealogical adventure.

More people need to get behind Spiderverse/Pjo/DC crossovers(or 'The Anomalies' as i like to call it).You telling me Miles,Percy and Jason wouldn't be the best friends ever because they're so the same in the important ways but the little ways too? That Percy and Hobie,Miss and Mistah 'I'm not a hero because calling yourself a hero makes you self-mythologizing' themselves, wouldn't be forlifers too?And that Percy wouldn't adopt Gwen as her little sister and pseudo-daughter as an older trans woman as soon as she found how bad things are for her after already getting along with her tons? That she wouldn't do the same to Duke as an older demigod who grew up getting kicked out of schools too?You think Young Justice and the Spiderband wouldn't team up as chaos kids and heroes on the field too and Miles dosen't bond with Nico and Hazel and Jason isn't instantly riding for Miles G since he's the exact same position he was at his age and him and Margo don't fuck it up it together with their video game mods and he ain't jumping Miguel with Percy over how he treats Miles?Batburger,Dairy Super, cat cafes, skateparks, underground shows, arcade visits, charity work, fighting fascists, defacing public property and yap?The only thing that's impossible in TA is impossibility

@tzigone replied to your post “I said I was writing it so have a snippet of my...”:
How often are Preston's eyes blue v brown? He was brown-eyed in the early Impulse comics (and in issue #80), but I can see him as blue-eyed in #60s. Honestly, I hadn't realized he'd been colored with blue eyes at all until this post - sent me down a rabbit hole checking issues.
Oh! I honestly didn't even notice that, but now that you mention it is very interesting! I just had to check the screenshots I had been collecting for this fic too. He is brown eyed in a lot of the earlier comics/very vaguely a brown-green (I guess that's hazel then?) color, sometimes blue, or just not colored at all, which was what I was finding a lot of in my screenshots (sorta like the 2nd image).

*SPOILERS FROM AN EXTRACT OF CHAPTER 1 OF SUNRISE ON THE REAPING*
Haymitch's birthday is reaping day. Haymitch's 16th birthday is the day he's selected as a tribute. He spent every birthday between 16 and 41 being forced to 1 mentor two kids he knew had no hope of survival, and 2 to remember all those that he lost because he survived. The extra weight this adds to (book) Haymitch's outburst after Katniss volunteers.
Sid is so Prim coded, I want to eat glass.
Haymitch's dad also died in the mines like Katniss and Gale's fathers.
Each of them doing everything they can to help provide for their families. Katniss and Gale by hunting and going beyond the fence, Haymitch by doing any job he can.
Haymitch's mom working as a laundress like Hazel Hawthorne. Makes Haymitch taking Hazel in as his housekeeper (after the entire district essentially boycotts her after the peacekeepers whip Gale) hits so much harder. As much as it hurts me, it does make me wonder if he ever looked at Gale with Rory and Vick and thought of himself and Sid, especially since he shares a lot of physical features with Gale (the "seam" look, dark hair and skin, and grey eyes).
Haymitch and Katniss are truly the same side of the coin, we knew that from the original series but I'm so looking forward to delving into that more in this novel.
I betting that there's going to be a Sunrise on the reaping/Sid's wakeup call callback at the end and that it is going to hit so hard and shatter me into a million pieces.
For the above, I do have three scenarios in my head; 1 is that it's the morning of the 51st games and someone from the captiol comes to wake him and says a line about how it's sunrise and they have to get ready for the reaping or 2 we time jump to the morning of the reaping for the 74th games and Effie says something to that effect, or 3 Haymitch says it to himself on either the morning of the 51st or the 74th games as he drinks, or post mockingjay (in a similar style to the mockingjay epilogue).
Haymitch's love is called Lenore Dove. I'm interested to find out if she has any link to the covey as her first name is also the title of a poem by Edgar Allen Poe. The poem, from my reading, is about the death of a beautiful young woman, and her lover who hopes to reunite with in the afterlife.
"So don’t feed the nightmares. Don’t let yourself panic. Don’t give the Capitol that. They’ve taken enough already." I CANNOT WAIT TO DEVOUR THIS BOOK.

RICKMAS 2024: DAY 07. QUIET WISHING
Tumblr media
Summary: Phil, a rugged barber with a quiet yearning, finally considers pursuing his feelings for you after his son Brian and a friend tease him into admitting his interest.
Pairing: Phil Allen × Fem! Reader
Warnings: None
Also read on Ao3
Tumblr media
Phil’s hands stilled mid-cut, his eyes catching sight of you through the barbershop window, your arms laden with bags, a hint of a smile on your face as you navigated the bustling street. It was the holiday season, and even from inside, he could see the warmth of Christmas in your eyes, the joy of whatever gifts you’d picked out reflecting in your smile.
His client, an old friend, noticed the shift in Phil’s focus and smirked. “Why don’t you ask her out, Phil?” he teased, breaking the silence.
Phil scoffed, shaking his head as he resumed snipping away, feigning disinterest. “I don’t see her like that,” he muttered, his voice low, betraying none of the truth. But his friend wasn’t buying it, chuckling as he watched Phil’s feigned composure crack just slightly.
“Oh, come on,” the friend scoffed, his voice a knowing murmur. “Anyone with half a brain can see the way you look at her. It’s written all over you, mate.”
Phil grumbled, feeling the warmth rise to his face. “She’s the same age as my son, Brian,” he argued, voice a bit gruffer than intended, hoping the excuse would end the conversation.
But as fate would have it, at that very moment, Brian walked in from the back of the shop, catching only a portion of the conversation. “Who’s my age?” he asked, his gaze shifting between his father and the client with a raised eyebrow.
Phil straightened, clearing his throat as if to move the topic along, but his friend grinned and jumped in eagerly. “Your dad here’s got his eye on that lovely young woman who just walked by,” he said, barely holding back his laughter.
Brian looked at his father, unimpressed but not surprised. “You mean [Your Name]?” He shook his head, a hint of amusement in his eyes. “Yeah, Dad, we’ve all noticed. Subtlety isn’t exactly your strong suit.”
Phil shot him a warning look. “Enough, Brian,” he muttered, but Brian wasn’t finished, a teasing grin spreading across his face.
“Oh, don’t stop now,” Brian drawled, leaning against the counter, crossing his arms. “Let me guess. You’re trying to convince yourself that she’s just some girl carrying Christmas presents, right? But we both know better.” He let the words hang in the air, watching his father squirm, something rare and endlessly entertaining.
Phil’s mouth tightened, his hazel eyes narrowing as he tried to dismiss the conversation. “That’s enough, Brian,” he said again, but this time his voice held a softer edge, one that almost sounded vulnerable.
Brian leaned back, arms crossed, a smirk plastered on his face as he watched his father attempt to brush off the topic, though it was obvious Phil was rattled. “Come on, Dad,” Brian said, his voice carrying a touch of gentle insistence. “When’s the last time you went on a proper date? You’ve been single for as long as I can remember since you and Mum split up. Maybe it’s time you took a chance.”
Phil’s hands stilled, and for a moment, he stared down at his client’s hair, his jaw tightening. “I’m perfectly fine on my own,” he muttered, though even he could feel the hollowness of the words. Brian just shook his head, chuckling softly.
“Maybe you are,” Brian admitted. “But that doesn’t mean you should be. You deserve a bit of happiness, Dad. And she… well, everyone can see you’ve got that quiet wishin’ for her. It’s about time you stopped pretending.”
Phil felt his face warm, glancing toward the window, but you had already disappeared from view. He took a deep breath, letting it out slowly, as if releasing a burden he hadn’t realized he’d been carrying. Brian wasn’t about to let it go.
“What’s the harm in asking her out to dinner?” Brian continued, his tone encouraging. “Just a meal, Dad. A little Christmas cheer, some conversation. You’re always saying she’s got a good heart, that she’s kind, smart… and, well, if you’re gonna spend your days sighing over her in here, you might as well give it a shot.”
Phil scowled, but the edges of his resistance were cracking. “You make it sound so simple,” he muttered, his voice almost lost in the hum of the shop. Brian clapped a hand on his shoulder, the warmth of his encouragement breaking through his father’s stoicism.
“Because it is, Dad,” Brian replied, leaning in, his voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. “Besides, from what I’ve seen, she seems like the kind who might like a bloke who’s a bit rugged, a bit quiet, a bit… hands-on, if you know what I mean.” He shot his father a wink, nudging him playfully. “Go on, Phil. Show her you’re more than just the man with the scissors.”
Phil felt himself flush as Brian’s words hit home, his mind slipping for a moment into images he’d never dare speak aloud. The thought of your warm smile, of your laughter filling the quiet corners of his life, stirred something deep within him, something he’d buried long ago.

I've seen a lot of takes about the Hbomb video - here's a link; he's also done some similar works criticizing Allen Wakefield (accidentally instigated the prime anti-vax movement while trying to scam people) and Tommy Tallerico (similar vein to The Video, of plagiarism/credit theft).
I've also enjoyed some of his teardown videos, but my real favorites are his Why FNV Is Genius (and Here's Why) and Pathologic Is Genius (And Here's Why), which lead me to buying and playing (some of) Pathologic 2.
One thing worthy of note is that he specifically requests that nobody start a witch hunt over the subjects of his videos. He is an opinionated person and his righteous indignation is very entertaining, but I've never seen him seriously suggest people harass any real human beings. Suggestions to do so after watching the video have been made by the viewers and are explicitly condemned by Hbomb himself in the video. Just saying.
But more to the point is how he ends the video: he decides to cap it off with a reel of suggested viewing for people who create the kinds of things Somerton allegedly made himself, focusing on queer creators.
Here's the playlist linked in the video description:
I don't doubt other people have shared this already, but it hasn't crossed my dash, so I thought I'd give it a mention. It's a really nice way to end a video that, while focusing on informing the viewers and warning people of potential scammers essentially, does have a negative tone at times because he is, well, tearing into someone's monumental career of plagiarism.
The playlist links to videos by Alexander Avila (who was himself plagiarized by Somerton), Matt Baume, Lady Emily, verilybitchie, RickiHirsh, Shanspeare, Khadija Mbowe, hazel, Herby Revolus, Maggie Mae Fish, Kaz Rowe, Kat Blaque, Lily Alexandre, max teeth, drapetomania, Kameno -o, Lola Sebastian, Princess Weekers, CJ The X, Jennie Geist, Mia Mulder, Nick DiRamio, Sarah Z, Rowan Ellis, and finally Maven of the Eventide.
(I have chosen to spare my wrists and sanity by not hyperlinking those names because the playlist is literally right there.)
Fun facts: this list, which apparently also has nonbinary and trans artists on it, contains 0 names I am already familiar with. I don't spend a lot of time on Youtube outside of very specific needs, but this still makes for a good opportunity for me to familiarize myself with work from others in the community.
Anyways, I just think that's an extremely cool way to end a four-hour-video that, while extremely entertaining, is a bit of a down to watch and realize how easily extremely unmotivated people are stealing others' work and making bank off of it. That's all I had to say, goodnight.

Relationships: Bart Allen & Kon El | Conner Kent, Bart Allen & Iris West
Summary
Bart goes on his solo trip to find Kon and save his friends from a cruel destiny at great cost to the time stream and contends with the Linear Men who desperately want to keep him locked up - at least he thinks he is alone until Time Trapper reveals themselves as an unlikely ally, with an even more unlikely identity.
Excerpt
“You’ve broken the rules Bartholomew Henry Allen II,” said a different officer, he was dressed in clothing more bright than the fluorescent lights and Bart had a hard time looking at him even through his blue translucent prison cell walls. Unlike the woman from before, his older lined face was drawn in sympathy for his prisoner.
Bart snorted in contempt from his cell, a cube of jelly-like material that cut him off from his speed. “What rules? Dontcha have t’ make the rules known before enforcing them? Y’know. Stop! Speed Limit only 45 times the speed of light! That sort of stuff.”
“You always were a funny one at this age. But history never recorded anything about you doing this though,” mused the old officer, worry hovering in his hazel eyes.
“Oops? I guess if history has been changed then there’s no point in keeping me here because what are you trying to preserve?” Bart quipped as he poked the jelly and it zapped him, hard, and he yelped rubbing his hand.
“That’s the point! You changed history and altered reality! Do you have any idea of how delicate the threads of reality are? Changing just one tiny detail can have drastically cataclysmic consequences! No one should have that right or power! You know this!”
Bart’s eyes smoldered, pupils set and direct like the line of an event horizon as he glared at his sympathetic jailer. “I mean this most disrespectfully to your made-up rules of Reality - go fuck yourself.”

Physical Appearance: Mia Queen-Lance is a striking young woman with a blend of her parents' features that create a unique beauty all her own. She has her mother's hazel eyes and her father's blond hair.

Her mother, fearing for her safety, sent her to be raised by Nyssa al Ghul in Nanda Parbat. There, Mia was trained in the ways of the League of Assassins, growing up in the shadow of the ancient order's traditions and discipline. Her childhood was one of rigorous physical training, stealth, and mastery of various combat techniques. Unbeknownst to her, she also possessed a dormant metahuman ability, a sonic scream, which she discovered during her early teenage years. Happy 20th Anniversary D. Gray-man!
On 31 May 2004, an amazing journey began with Allen Walker making his way to the European Branch of the Black Order as a new exorcist.
And now, it is 31 May 2024, 20 years of a still on-going journey. A lot has happened and changed and yet, he keeps walking.
Happy Birthday, D. Gray-man! And thank you for everything you've brought to me and so many others!
This post contains the pieces I did for the D. Gray-man 20th Anniversary Zine. 1 Party Doodle and 2 Redraw Project pages. Please enjoy! To see the whole zine, please access the zine through the link below to the project tumblr!
✦ D. Gray-man 20th Anniversary Zine ✦
Please make sure to take a look at the whole zine! I had the greatest honor to work with more than 100+ amazing artists across the world. It would mean a lot to me and all those who worked on this zine to have our work seen together as one!
(PS. I asked a funny little question in the Party Doodle section of the zine!)
[Beyond this point are my pieces and some fun facts!]
Tumblr media
Party Doodle || A Celebration from 35 Years Ago featuring from bottom left, Mana D. Campbell, Nea D. Campbell, ???, Cross Marian, and Timcampy. ✦ I originally made this celebration doodle with the intention of just drawing Nea, ???, and Timcampy. But upon popular demand and the power of friendship (shoutout to Hana Hazel, Kanin, and Sabhamun), I ended up adding Cross Marian and Mana! And honestly, the additions were a great idea and really make the piece feel more lively and fun! (Also we need more Campbell brothers content damn it. I wanna see them happy!) ✦ Also, if any of your are up-to-date at this point, you know Chapter 251 coming out shook so many things including this piece that was already done when it released. But! I think it's fun to keep it as is as a relic of the pre-251 era. (Who knows? Maybe I'll make a fixed version!)
Tumblr media
Redraw Project Page 01 || Chapter 04. Page 119. ✦ The first redraw page I received for assignment! I ended up liking the page, because it felt to me an integral establishing page for the series' themes. I may have gotten a little overboard with how I wanted to interpret the page, but I thought originally I would not be doing a second page and thus, wanted to put a lot of effort. In D. Gray-man, Akuma are created when a person makes a deal with the Millennium Earl. More often than not, the person has no idea what this deal entails, only that they can bring their loved one back from the dead if they agree to it. But what happens when the person is aware or knows not to accept the Earl's deal? And we receive a heart-wrenching, but understandable answer. To have the knowledge of the Earl's tricks does not automatically save a person. The Earl preys on the vulnerable. He appears and makes his offer to those in the deepest pits of despair and grief. That is how he got Leo. He was just a kid who lost his mother. He may have known more about the Earl and Akuma, because of his friendship with Jean, but when you are grieving kid-- what do you do when someone promises you they'll bring back your mother who was taken from you so suddenly? It is difficult to say no. ✦ The books that frame the piece are meant to convey this emphasis of knowledge and study-- the days Jean and Leo spent reading through Jean's father's books and notes about the Earl and Akuma with intention to patrol their town and keep people safe. Ultimately, a book page is the last panel, showing a representation of Leo and the Earl at a grave as Leo becomes an example of a person who takes the Earl's deal and whose body is taken by an Akuma. ✦ The blue tones of Jean and the Akuma were on purpose made to contrast the warmer tones of Jean and Leo's days together. ✦ It was crazy getting to draw an Akuma's face. It was a challenge to try and draw kids, but I ended getting through it pretty well. ✦ There are a few silly easter eggs in the open books. I put a small anniversary message in one. And in the other, I tried to sketch Cornelia and the Campbell Estate with the lyrics of the 14th's song. A nod to some content in the later parts of the series.
Tumblr media
Redraw Project Page 02 || Chapter 01. Page 38. ✦ Originally, the plan was I only would do 1 redraw page and 1 doodle, but we needed fill-ins and I took a shot at it! ✦ When I found out it was a page from Chapter 1, I was ecstatic! I had originally wanted to do one from the chapter, but they were high in demand which was more than understandable. ✦ Unlike my first redraw page, I decided to be a little more simplistic with the layout. This layout is not too far off from that of the Katsura Hoshino's, but I made a few changes such as certain angles, drawing characters closer to emphasize faces. ✦ I am not the strongest with backgrounds and drawing buildings, but I ended up enjoying the challenge of it all. Thankfully, a lot of other artists in the project tackled the building and referenced the original page, the pages and sketches of the building or interior by other project artists, and the anime to ready myself to tackle it! ✦ The spirals of the Akuma bullet gave me trouble at first, but then I ended up enjoying it as I figured it out. ✦ This page was overall a big joy to play with as it challenged me with backgrounds, certain effects, and word bubbles.
And with that, this concludes the tour of my work on the D. Gray-man 20th Anniversary Zine. I have so much to say about this series and what it means to me, but I will try not to make this post horridly longer.
D. Gray-man is the series that made me fall in love with storytelling and art. It showed me something that filled an emptiness I felt. It gave me joy and company at a time where I felt unsure who I was and felt like an outcast. My resolution after this project is to continuously grow better at my stories and art. I hope to make something as meaningful to myself and others as D. Gray-man is.
Happy 20th Anniversary D. Gray-man! I hope and pray for more wonderful chapters and for there to be a lovely conclusion someday. For now, let us keep walking together!
