Recorded June 29, 2023; however, I'd wager to guess the first pre-Florence draft of this was first penned earlier, as it probably took a bit of logistics to meet up with Florence in the studio  

While probably a bit about all three recent exes ("So, I did my best to lay to rest all of the bodies that have ever been on my body") I'd say it's mostly about one. "And the hurricane with my name [Taylor Russell, is that you entering the chat?], when it came, I got drunk, and I dared it to wash me away. Barricaded in the bathroom with a bottle of wine. Well, me and my ghosts we had a hell of a time."  

If you peruse my timeline, I think you’ll find that the “shitstorm back in Texas” and her need for the release/high of the Tampa shows suddenly snaps into clear focus.  

Why does she want to be told that she’s despicable and unforgivable? The Matty thing is my guess.  

"Guilty as Sin"  

I think this was written pre-Eras Tour, but maybe not recorded until during?  

Interesting note, a few years ago, Harry shared “The Downtown Lights” by The Blue Nile with music journalist Zane Lowe as part of a playlist he put together  

A hedge maze is an outdoor garden maze or labyrinth. In "Labyrinth," she says, "I thought the plane was going down, how'd you turn it right around...I'm falling in love again." To me, this is saying, "I thought we were through, but I am falling in love with you again." And it's a clear reference to the Harry and Taylor of yore — paper airplanes. I am so confused about other people's confusion as to the muse of this song.  

She says she keeps “these longings locked in lowercase inside a vault.” Hmm. Maybe keep an eye out for the “reputation” vault tracks? I know I am.

I’m guessing recorded Spring 2023  

Lion references make me think of this image from April 13, 2023 at Electric Lady. Were they shooting a music video for TTPD? If so, gimme now. She’s wearing a Gucci lion ring. From Harry? (If you are unaware, he also has two Gucci lion rings). 

It was legendary, you say? Like, they were “born to be suburban legends” and when he holds you it holds you together and it’s “the only thing that’s holy” (“Guilty as Sin?��)  

I don’t think “you shit-talked me under the table” means he talked shit about her. Harry would never do that. I think it refers to the alternate definition of the term. Like he was talking out of his ass or bullshitting.  

“Love of my Life” is Harry’s only track 13.  

This song makes me cry every time I hear it. Every time. It’s so beautiful, though, so I can’t stop won’t stop. “Dancing phantoms on the terrace/are they second hand embarrassed?” Fuck me all the way up. 

Can you imagine being Joe Alwyn and knowing you put in six years and also knowing this song is not about you? I would simply turn to dust and blow away.  

“I Can Do It with a Broken Heart” 

God, this is such a great goddamn, perfect pop song. It has to be a single, right? 

In my heart and gut, I believe this is about Harry. I really think she’d already processed the Joe breakup before Era’s even started. She didn't love Matty—she said so herself and I believe her. She started the tour strong. But then late April hits and boom she was crying on stage and falling apart. Why? See my crazy Haylor Magnum opus and timeline for my thoughts.

"The Black Dog"  

I didn’t want it to be, but unfortunately, I’m convinced this is about Harry: Regarding the line, “I just don’t understand how you don’t miss me in the shower and remember how my rain-soaked body was shaking,” if you’ll refer to my scary stalker timetable, you’ll see it rained at the first night of the Arlington, Texas, show where I think Harry was.

In the original lyrics, it was “these weeks of breathing clean air” so the timeline means nothing.

Joe didn’t leave with his tail between his legs. She left him (see: “So Long, London” and “Fresh Out the Slammer”). Some might even say she bolted. And Matty was in the states when she wrote the song. But you know who was spotted and pictured in London just days before his Horsens show on May 13? Harry Styles.

Updated June 15, 2025: Joe confirmed to The Sunday Times’ Style magazine that he’s never been to Vauxhall where the Blackdog is located. In the intervening months, Matty Healy has since stated he and Taylor were not serious in any way.

These lyrics are clearly, to me, about someone she was with long term and left (Joe); this muse is someone she had a prior history with who left her—and suddenly. “Was it hazing? For a cruel fraternity I pledged? And I still mean it. Old habits die screaming.” And “Were you making fun of me with some esoteric joke?” “Hazing” and “cruel fraternity” are not apt metaphors for a six-year relationship. But they sure are for a two-week rebound with an on-and-off four-year situationship, though.

She was so, so big mad about Harry being at this bar. Why? Was he not answering her texts or calls/actually or appearing to “avoid her like the plague” as per “I Can Do It with a Broken Heart?” Why is there a girl there with him who is too young to know the Starting Line? Why does Taylor know this girl is there? Is she imaginary? She had better be imaginary! Goddamnit, Harry. I don’t want to be mad at you.

I'm not sure if he's aware how much importance us Haylors put on Saturn when it comes to them, but Gold Rush?? Come onn this isn't just theories there is no actual way he's talking about anyone but Taylor. Then Eagle's drive is giving like her Eagles Tshirt yk. But like. I always knew this song was about Taylor but he's being so... Open about it. Something is happening. Something is happening for sure. ALSO. He chose a video of a space raft lifting off that said, "ten lonely years" and it was on the red planet. Idk stuff just happening guys.

Correction. Upon slightly further examination it's earth with Saturn rings. I wonder if that's like oh I love you to Saturn, but look, I'm right here.

You guys are not going to like this, but I have a theory that loml might be about two people, and those two people are NOT Matty and Joe.

At this point we can all agree that nearly every song on TTPD is about two people...so my theory for loml is that it's about Matty and Harry.

Okay, so the Matty references are obvious. Now putting aside the obvious point that Harry has a song called 'love of my life' already, I still have other reasons to believe it's about him.

Firstly Taylor seems to attribute many songs se has written bout someone at first to another person later. I get the feeling she did that with many 1989 songs, relating them to Matty after she met him. I think while revisiting what went wrong with Matty, she was taken back to the 1989 "era", if you will, and found some inspiration.

Also, in loml, she talks about "waltzing back into rekindled flames", a very "when we go crashing down we come back every time" esque lyric. Obviously it can apply to Matty as well, but I just wanted to point that out.

Also the "we were just kids, babe" line rubs me the wrong way because Taylor or Matty or Joe were NOT kids when any of them met.

Harry was 18 and Taylor was 23 when they dated though. They made mistakes and got back together and so on and so forth.

The ghosts/phantoms/cemetary references remind me of Two Ghosts, the song Harry famously wrote about Taylor. Also, "Mr Steal Your Girl" and One Direction has a song called Steal My Girl.

Also, I feel like loml has a lot of the same themes as Question..?, which imo is also a song that's about both Harry and Matty? Like her most famous "kiss in a crowded place" was the NYE one with Harry? Also the glaring callbacks to OOTW is always so confusing to me. Like the song is to be interpreted as a Matty song because of the dickhead guy line, but then why so many 1989 references?

Maybe because those two relationships in her life were so close together and both very quickfire, fleeting yet impactful...so she tends to intermix both at times.

Again, I'm not a haylor and OH GOD NEVER a maylor...this is just my theory. I mean she references past players in her life like Jake and Kim and even Calvin if you consider the 'bully' lyric in Chloe et al...so it got me thinking thoughts.

mmm i am not convinced. i mean, anything is possible, sure, and inspiration can have many sources. but... what is the broader implication of these callbacks that you think she's making to harry? do you think he is the love or loss of her life? does this return anywhere else on this album? why do you think she might want to reflect on that, when the epilogue makes it clear this album is about her feeling a "restricted humanity" that led her to making specific decisions that were "self harm"?

i do think you're picking up on how taylor revisits themes throughout her discography, though.

she's been singing about ghosts (bad blood, cardigan), being haunted (sparks fly, haunted), wanting to haunt people (tim mcgraw, wildest dreams), memories torturing her (the "what if" in chloe et al for example but also all too well!) for her entire career - but especially later, because, well, the older she's gotten the more memories she's made or regretted.

imo this is one of the reasons why i look in people's windows is so poignant. "i'm afflicted by the not knowing, i'm addicted to the 'if only'" - this idea, concept, theme, motif, whatever, appears in her entire discography.

as for "we were just kids, babe" - it's not a literal line about being being a minor, it's about revisiting the past and hoping to rectify past mistakes. we see it resurface throughout her discography as well (like 1989 and midnights, as you pointed out!), but especially this album: here at the park where we used to sit on children's swings wearing imaginary rings (fots), he was my best friend down at the sandlot (my boy), you said you were gonna grow up then you were gonna come find me (peter), down that passage in time back to the moment i crashed into you...too impaired by my youth to know what to do (chloe et al.)

Let’s talk another shocking HSLOT song on the European leg: STOCKHOLM SYNDROME

I legit though I was hallucinating watching the May 13th livestream from Horsens when the opening chords started. Even though he wrote this one, Harry so rarely adds 1D songs to his setlist. He played it occasionally in 2017-2018 since HS1 only had 10 tracks.

And this summer, though he sometimes alternated with Daylight, he played it consistently starting May 13th.

It’s one of his more…suggestive 1D songs, talking about how happy he is to be ensnared in the bedroom of his captor (guess who?). And as he plays it more this summer he fiddles with his Gucci ring while singing “holding your hand and talking about your eyes.” He also changes the emphasis of some lyrics right from May 13th, singing “he used to sing about being free but now he’s *changed his mind!*” The change reminded me of Blondie’s new vocal emphases in The 1 (*take her home*) and Illicit Affairs (you showed me colours you know I *can’t* see with anyone else).

And for some fun, here is the world’s most chaotic 1D promo video when FOUR was released, filmed in early November 2014. The song was a fan fave on this album. Ben Winston fights a valiant fight, but trying to keep these 5 on track is…a lot.

How do you explain it when Taylor has coincidences with other people too? For example: Haylors are pointing out how Harry has a similar photo where he's also lying down on the ground and wearing a similar striped sweater

it’s because of the perceived nature of their relationship.

mostly because swifties think taylor and karlie hate one another and so it would be weird for them to hate one another and then do a lot of this repeatedly. if karlie really went to taylor’s show to antagonize her and brought the same style bag as taylor to boot, why would taylor be comfortable enough to use the same style bag days later, if it leads to the impression that they are in cahoots.

as for looking at this from a gaylor perspective, i’ll refer to the vsfs angel wing ring masterpost as another example. there’s a paragraph at the end of the post that i think explains my thinking:

as for the haylor stuff, there are non-haylor gaylors or larries that think there’s coordination going on in that aspect (basically just the idea that they both could be coming out at the same time someday) but mostly, again, its this idea that unknowingly twinning with people you are neutral with can happen, sure, but that it wouldn’t happen if you have a cataclysmic vendetta against them.

i’ll say it again, the twinning itself isn’t proof that they’re together. but, when put together with the music, the visuals, symbolism, sentimental objects, karlie’s work, timing of personal events and world events, lucky numbers, wording, etcetera, it all works in concert to paint a picture that best illustrates the meaning behind so much of taylor’s work.

Aside from the music videos, have you noticed any other signals that they could've been sending each other or any coincidences this year? Also, if there's been any indication they have met up or are talking behind the scenes?

So much has happened this year that I can't remember everything at the top of my head, but other than the music videos I would say they're sending signals through their choise of clothing, on tour especially. Quite frankly Taylor is in her Era's Era so it's fitting to be giving out many Easter eggs on which TV is next, some of those would obviously be for 1989 TV, however when she wore the Gucci lion ring that's similar to the one Harry has, that one was so out of nowhere and obvious, it was SCREAMING Harry from miles away and it was a little after she broke up with Joe too, meanwhile she was preparing to announce Speak Now TV, it didn't make much sense for her to be teasing 1989 TV at that point in time. Another example is Harry wearing a lot of clothes with nods to purple and purple lighting around the SNTV release date as well as his Saturn t-shirts.

Their speeches during tour. Harry saying 'moving swiftly on' even though there are so many other words he could've used instead. Taylor saying that the song Questions...? brings her a lot of happy memories right before playing it on the day of the 1 year anniversary of Harry's House. Referring to James' love interest to which he apologises as the love of his life and Harry has a song with that title.

There are also so many coincidences between them too. It's a haylor world and we are simply living in it. The way the universe is conspiring in their favor and linking them together one way or another it's just so 🥺.

I'm sure they are talking to each other behind the scenes. I don't even for a second believe that them wearing blue outfits with stars on them in the same night is coincidental. When they started talking, whether they've met in person or any other questions regarding that I don't have the answers to, but they're definitely communicating with each other.

What jewelry is he wearing? Also did you see the ring Gigi reportedly bought for Taylor? Good Lord. Why would Gigi want that personal ring and inscription to be made so publicly? If I saw that ring, I would think it was an extremely special / full of inside jokes engagement ring that I would want to keep private. Glad it apparently isn’t.

I don’t know if any of y’all have noticed but Taylor has made some interesting style choices this past week.

First she’s been wearing a braid in her hair since Thursday. “Your braids make a pattern, love you to the moon and to Saturn”

Then she’s been wearing a lot of chains lately. I just recently made a post about this.

Last night she wore a body chain & today she wore a chain ring link bracelet.

And @this-daydream-is-dangerous-13 pointed out to me that the necklace she wore last night looks like the one from the WD mv.

Then Taylor also wore the Cartier necklace again.

Hi honey. Welcome to the fandom! Sorry you feel you have no one to talk to. I’m sure there are plenty of people in your shoes, though. And there are definitely people who’ve been around who are happy to answer questions.

Anyway, I don’t think I actually know which necklace you’re referring to. Perhaps it was a short-lived phase, but nothing is ringing a bell.

Loving the taylor/haylor discourse (and the actual songs too, some of my faves in the album i think though it might be recency bias). couple of things i found really interesting are: 1 the constant mention to the guys coolness/magnetism/attractiveness and also his promiscuity, it all fits so so well with the image of harry at the time; and 2 in "is it over now" she mentions the accident and the blue dress on the boat one right after the other and i just think its incredible that she mentions two of the most spoken about moments of haylor (at least i think they are) in the same verse, genius honestly.

I'm glad someone else is interested anon - because I think there are some interesting things going on and there's lots to say that isn't either denial or defensive. I also really like the vault tracks - particularly the ones that are depicting Harry.

I think one thing that I'm interested in talking about that I haven't seen discussed much yet is how the tracks depict Harry. I don't think Harry and Taylor were in a relationship so I don't think what she says about the relationship tell us a lot about him. But there are some really interested pieces in here about him. (I am also interested in depictions of their relationship - which Is It Over Now clearly is - as it does play in some of those most public moments, but I think it's useful to talk about them seperately).

There's interesting material in Slut! (although I think that mostly has to be understood through the prism of how you see their relationship). It sits alongside Harry's magentism (which I think aren't just about what his image was at this time - but how he was).

But I think to understand how Harry is actually being depicted in these songs it's important to understand everything she's saying. And the anxiety and uncertainty she depicts so accurately in Now That We Don't Talk - is crucial. The anxiety on the way home and the suggestion that he's trying on new lives - it all rings very true. And the combination of a very charismatic person who doesn't know who he is and experiences no consequences - as a depiction of Harry I think it's more than the sum of its parts.

(I also think depicting 18 year old Harry as someone who wants to be on a mega-yacht with important men who think important thoughts is easily the most devastating criticism anyone has ever made of him. And I'm afraid it's true).

To throw my two cents into the ring, I find the shipping bad bc rpf is gross and her fans doing the exact same shit the tabloids used to do with staying that she's dating people she's close to is… not it.

But with gaylors/kaylors specifically my biggest problem isn't so much the rpf, but the fact that they absolutely refuse to acknowledge that if Taylor is a closeted wlw like they say she is, then by going around and blasting "the truth about her sexuality" everywhere… they're outing her! They're always like "oh but the flagging" but flagging isn't the same as coming out. Especially yucky when a good chunk of them are straight.

Fair enough, but I know gaylors who absolutely don't do that and I know haylors who do do that! Maybe a majority of the fans who perpetuate these "headcanons" about her life are gaylors, but it's neat to remember not all gaylors do that

yeah i think that's a fair assessment but since she's had so many secret relationships it's hard to know who that is. it's also possible "23" in the song just represents youth and perhaps a simpler time or a naive time for taylor. it rhymes with fantasy so maybe that's why she chose it, maybe she was trying to egg on haylors, who knows entirely! the song doesn't really ring heavily true for any of our fav muses around here it's hard to explain but it just doesn't stick out to me as a specific muse we've done a lot of analysis on. that's just my gut instinct tho.
