Silly Michael headcanon but this man had some messed up teeth as a kid, feels like he was very clumsy and shit when he was younger and yk, teeth chipping in the back, them just not growing in right and yk. So with the crowding and his teeth becoming crooked he probably had braces for awhile(from the ages 12-15) and after they were taken off he now is stuck with a retainer, probably a hawley retainer (the one with the wire) for awhile before switching to a clear one during the events of solitaire and that’s probably what he stuck with even into adulthood, but now his teeth are nice n shit and it feels like in interviews he would get compliments on them and all he replied with is

“Oh I had braces when I was younger !!”

Laswell and (bonus her wife)

Laswell had an underbite when she was younger. Her lower incisors overlapped her upper ones. They were this way for years; it's what she got used to. But her dentist sent her to an orthodontist at 19. A little late, but Kate didn't really want braces. Kate didn’t get the luxury of having her braces glued on, as is common now, no she got the big metal ones that wrap all the way around each tooth. (which meant she needed spacers between nearly every tooth. Her dentist was old school, she can laugh about it now. Not at the time.) It took 2 and a half years to correct her underbite alone and she only got out of them a year after that due to complications with crowding. She couldn’t keep her wisdom teeth and had them removed during her time in braces. There is no evidence of drugged Laswell except for one single written note to her brother that he found a few years back and texted a photo to her to share with the boys. (“If I died yesterday, would you still forgive me?” Even Laswell has no idea what she was talking about.) 

Once Kate was finally free of her metal prison (braces), she was given a Hawley retainer that she wore as prescribed (so, every night) for about 3 years before she stopped caring quite as much.

HOWEVER!! Laswell still talks like she has her underbite! (fig 1) She kept the habit of pushing her jaw forward to enunciate her words, and you can see it!

Today Laswell wears her retainer about as often as she washes her face, so, when she remembers. She brushes her teeth every morning but is far more lax about skipping it at night. She flosses using a simple spool when her wife reminds her, and uses mouthwash when she’s feeling good about her hygiene. She smokes and drinks coffee, and she uses whitening strips now and again to keep her smile clear.

Laswell doesn’t often share and talk about her dental experiences, (I mean who does other than me, OP here, I'm not normal.) but if it IS ever brought up you better pray her wife is not around. Because Laswell's wife had HEADGEAR in high school AND college, and she will tell you the trials and tribulations of that for over half an hour. And there will be no escape. Kate having an underbite? Pa SHAW that has *nothing* on having to twist a metal knob to widen the BONE of her top pallet! 

Laswell’s wife will terrorize anyone foolish enough to listen.

Ok, Hi Rae, but this is for Star anon, who will hopefully see this in time to learn how to speak with a lisp. I had braces - the pain goes away after a few days. How are you, Rae?

Star anon, I hope you see this before your school dance.

To speak without a lisp depends on the type of retainer you have. If you have a Hawley retainer, which is the wired one that cover the roof of the mouth, you have to put the tip of your tongue slightly flat in the front of the mouth where your retainer meets your teeth. Think of how you say the letter "D" in the word dent. Now as you do that, focus on the positioning of the tongue and try to have it be flatter than it usually is while still having that contact with your teeth, this is to adjust for the lower roof of the mouth.

Now if you have a clear retainer, it's a bit trickier, and unfortunately does take time to practice, but a way you can try to speed up the process and learning how to position your mouth is by doing some tongue twisters. What you want to focus on in general is enunciating your words more and having your teeth slightly closer together when saying the letter S to help compensate for the space the retainer takes up. You also want to use your lips much more to also help compensate for that difference in positioning the retainer creates.

In general though, focus on enunciating more and being careful of not just the letter S, but letters like P, T, and D. Hopefully, this is helpful.

really random opinion but if you have estrix retainers (the plasticy ones) and don’t like them the old school metal ones (hawleys) are a million times better imo and if you’re in the market and don’t like your current model i recommend shopping around and seeing if you can switch. for some reason some orthodontists don’t carry them but i did some research and switched this summer as i needed a new pair regardless and personally find them way more comfortable to wear overnight and easier to keep clean. they’re more of an upfront cost and obvi talk to your orthodontist to make sure they work for you but as someone who hated my retainers sososo much there is an alternative.

Could RFK Jr. Succeed as a Republican?

The utterly unsurprising news that the majority of Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s major financial backers are dyed-in-the-wool Republicans, and that his "surging" poll numbers are being driven primarily by newfound love from Republican voters, makes me wonder: how would he fare if he actually ran as a Republican?

Obviously, on the issues he's a much closer match to the GOP these days. The anti-vaxx paranoia and overall conspiracy mindset goes without saying. His foreign policy stances are called "tankie" when they're nominally coming from the left, but if you're a Republican they're just bog-standard "isolationist" Putin-worship. Even some of his seemingly more "progressive" government spending ideas could easily be folded into a MAGA-style "build baby build" argument; the same goes for his railings against big business vis-a-vis a Josh Hawley style of politics (it's all easier once you remember that all of these positions -- whether held by Kennedy or Trump or Hawley -- are all vibes, no content, so it's no struggle to assimilate them into a new host).

And symbolically, I think he has a lot to offer to the GOP. It's not just the high-profile "defector" thing (as absurd as that label is to apply to someone like Kennedy). He also -- again, symbolically, not substantively -- harkens back to "my granddaddy's Democratic Party", feeding into the larger grievance narrative of older White voters who retain some nostalgia for the mid-20th century glory days but are convinced that "the party left them". And even in presentation, Kennedy has some Trumpian vibes: the superficial visage of power and influence, paired with the superficial visage of being a "rebel" who's standing up to his own "class" (I can't keep repeating that this is all nonsense, but nonsense is very appealing to GOP primary voters).

Do I think he could oust Trump? No, because I don't think anybody can oust Trump in a GOP primary. Do I think he could become a serious player -- more so than the shooting star crashing meteor that is Ron DeSantis? Absolutely. And as, for example, a Trump VP pick, RFK Jr. makes an alarming amount of sense. The biggest question might be whether the delusions that prompted Kennedy to run in the first place will obscure the greener grass that awaits him on the GOP side of the fence; because otherwise going GOP seems like the obvious play for him.
