For my piece, I focused on my sweet '70s bae Circe (to the shock of no one who's been following me for more than a week, I know). She DOES have an origin story that I'm slowly chipping away (when the words are willing). Girl had a rough time for a while post-Embrace, and at some point winds up working in an illegal massage parlour to get by until getting scooped up by a certain Ventrue and having a series of misadventures that end in LA (for the time being).

Fantasy/Knight AU with a dash of enemies to reluctant allies then friends to lovers. Hawk Moth, tyrant of the kingdom, is dead. Slain by his own champion Chat Blanc of all things. With a lot of questions remaining, she decides that the first step to getting answers is to save Chat Blanc from death row.

Marinette tries to forget about Chat Blanc as much as possible, but that doesn't stop her from dreaming about him.

Based on a Tumblr prompt. Upon discovering that Marinette made an expensive (and somewhat secretive) purchase, Adrien has a lot of questions.

Penumbra (Complete, Rated M)

Check tags carefully for this one as it deals with some heavy themes. Adrien is haunted by an experience he can never forget, so he turns to being Chat Noir as much as possible to escape it. As Marinette's relationship deepens with both Adrien and Chat Noir, she starts to realise there's something hidden behind their smiles.

Akechi Goro, fellow youtuber and hardass skeptic, was not someone the Phantom Thieves were planning to work with. Their content was diametrically opposed: the Phantom Thieves investigated haunted locations, trying to collect evidence of ghostly activity and hopefully help bring those spirits to peace; meanwhile, Akechi’s channel was on the uprise thanks to his videos analyzing and debunking paranormal videos online.

Ren was aware of his channel for a while before they first interacted and really didn’t take any issue with Akechi’s content. On the contrary! Ren liked Akechi’s videos very much — Akechi was sharp, very knowledgeable on filmmaking and editing techniques, and his breakdowns of popular fake paranormal videos were pretty fascinating. He could get really sassy and even mean at times in his commentary, but in an amusing way. It was good content.

Also, Akechi was very attractive, which certainly played its part in retaining Ren’s viewership and his decision making in the events to come. Smugness looked so good on him.

Reason: I made this AU for the Danny Phantom au zine, Reality Trip, and I have had so much fun playing with it. It started as a throwaway wondering "what if Vlad approached Tucker instead of Valerie?" and grew into something huge. I've always adored no one knows aus, and this one takes it a step further. I'll be posting the fic to Ao3 soon, and I've got big plans for the rest of this AU.

The Haunting of Danny Fenton

Description: Valerie knows Danny Fenton, everybody does. Youngest of the family, son and heir, future owner of Fenton Works. Notable for all those reasons and infamous for none of them. Where Maddie and Jack are the local quirks, Danny is the tragedy. And, for the next week, he's the Red Huntress' newest client.

Reason: I adore writing Valerie's point of view. She's my favourite character, so it's a bit criminal that I don't have more fics focused on her. I've also used some different narrative techniques in this fic playing with perspective, which has been a lot of fun.

The Punishment Fits the Crime

Description: Ghosts are naturally drawn to death. Danny, however, finds himself drawn to those who have wrongfully died. He always said he would never hurt someone who doesn't deserve it. It's not his fault that he keeps finding people who do. Or: Danny is a vengeful spirit.

Reason: My darkest fic, tonally. I got the idea to turn Danny into a vengeful spirit and immediately decided to push it as far as I could. There's only a couple of chapters up right now, but the tags tell you all you need to know about the direction this fic is going.

The In-Laws

Description: Harriet and her son, Kwan, meet each other's boyfriends through a family dinner. Hopefully, Vlad Masters and Danny Fenton can get along for one meal.

Reason: Because it's fun! This is a very light-hearted, humorous fic, and I had a great time with it. I like to write all kinds of pairings, and this was a great way to explore two I hadn't yet: Vlad and Harriet, and Danny and Kwan. Bad News shippers come get your juice.

Blossoms On Her Tongue

Description: Years after Undergrowth’s attack, Sam’s ghost powers from that day are slowly returning. Sam is excited at first, both at the chance to grow closer with Danny, and the opportunity to use her own powers for good. But things aren’t as great as they seem. After all, plants don't mix well with the cold.

Reason: I can't actually say because that would be a spoiler! But there's a specific dynamic I wanted to explore for the trio and this fic was what came out of it. I've got three parts planned for this series, each one focused on a different member of the trio.

a small look at inevitability

a friend of mine @tshirt3000​ did a “small” zine about whatever ‘yaoi’ means, and it turns out that at over 80 pages total, it means a lot of things to a lot of people. but this isn’t about them, this is about me. this is my entry.

I’ve always been fond of people with miserable endings. They tried their best, and it wasn’t enough. They didn’t try their best, and regretted it too late. They only realize the flaws in their plan when it’s staring at them through a mirror, they die still hopelessly confused by what could possibly have gone wrong.

To me, this is ‘romance’.

Romance being about commitment, and these people, above all else, have married themselves to a bad idea, have fallen in love with a concept above a person. Then, that concept eats them alive.

This is the plot of Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles. It is also the plot of XXXholic, which while less yaoi centric to me also gave me an everlasting disorder. You win some and you lose some.

The main point of TRC is that many wishes cannot be fulfilled because if you pay the price to get them, then you’d become someone who didn’t want them anymore. And then there are some wishes that can never be granted, no matter what. This is Hitzusen.

T/N: ‘Hitsuzen’ means inevitable.

What TCR and XXXholic have in common is a perpetual loop of the Gift of the Magi-- people who sacrifice something for someone else, only for that person to sacrifice in turn, rendering both gifts pointless in giving, and only meaningful in what they had meant when they were sacrificed.

So you have to be thankful for what you’ve been given, or everyone will have paid their prices for nothing.

This is why Fai drinks Kurogane’s blood. Even though it would be easier for him to die, he can’t give up on his own fear: the blood is the proof that he still has more to lose. As long as he lives, people will make sacrifices to save him.

How scary is that?

It’s like Kurogane said. He’s a coward who can neither live nor let go. And now he is dead and still holding on.

An important tenet of the Grail Wars is that you can’t win them, and any wish the Grail would grant is poisoned with blood and hatred. Nothing good can come. There is no ‘greater good’ to hope for.

Nevertheless, people cannot give up hope.

Gilgamesh proclaims immunity from the call of the Grail because he is the greatest of all heroes. There is nothing he does not already have. There is nothing he cannot grasp. He looks down on Artoria for having regrets.

Fate as a series is completely dependent on the regrets of its heroes. They can be forced to fight only rarely: mostly they must act as they will. They must long for the grail. They must desire to serve. They must be haunted by the mistakes that made them legends. They must die to the same flaws that followed them into the War.

Diarmuid is also immune to a desire for the Grail. What he wants cannot come from the chalice. What he wants is redemption, to serve a master and not be forced away by his inhuman charm that taints his own honor.

A simple wish, but it is beyond his grasp as surely as Enkidu’s soul lies beyond Gilgamesh’s sight. He can no more receive honor in a Grail war than a madened Lancelot can convey his sorrow to his only king. Each and every one of them can only be further tarnished.

Because Diarmuid’s master’s lover desires him, a command seal changes hands. A duel between warriors becomes a cold farce as Diarmuid is forced to turn his lance on himself. He curses the world as he dies. He curses Artoria. He curses her master. He curses his own master. He weeps tears of blood.

Have you no shame?

And Artoria only commits harder. You have to accept stains for the Grail. Otherwise, what will you have given up your principles for?

You will have cut your hair and sold it for a guitar pic for nothing.

In Yugioh GX, one of the protagonist’s rival’s kills himself.

Zane Trusedale, e.g, Ryo Marufuji, goes through a lot of things that aren't very important. All you need to know is that he went from a gifted kid to someone who’s notorious post graduation characteristic is that his heart has been weakened from the fact that he duels with shock collars in order to get a darker more ‘real’ edge to his duels, and he thinks being stuck in a life or death duel dimension isn’t, on its own, hardcore enough.

Aware that he’s pushing it, Zane challenges our main character to duel at possibly the lowest, more depressed point of his entire life. He wants to die in battle and he wants to communicate to Jaden that people can die in battle and have it not really be your fault-- that, to a certain extent, people make their own choices. That responsibility lands on them, and not all on our main character’s shaking shoulders.

His little brother watches this duel, by the way. And Begs him not to do it. But Zane and Jaden understand each other, so they go for it.

Jaden also wins against the boss of this season by committing to a mutual loss meaning death. He lives, of course, and so does Zane after the season ends. but he never really recovers from this. Zane is wheelchair bound. Jaden is possessed. And both of them are softer. Quiet. And tired.

The power of friendship wasn’t enough. Jaden beat season three through the power of incredible violence.

Childhood innocence sacrificed to keep his friends alive. And now he is more distant from them, in an unbridgeable gap.

I think it’s kind of gay to kill yourself. Or, in Han Suyeong’s case, I think it’s kind of gay to write a story about a man who kills himself for the sake of another man who kills himself. You see?

I know I’ve literally written Kim Dokja and Yoo Jonghyuk having sex. But I think they're in an ace relationship, personally. Them and Han Suyeong. A throuple of indeterminate intimacy.

What’s important is that Kim Dokja has theorized his way into creating a happy ending-- a utopia even greater than what Kiritsugu Emiya dared to dream of. He’s even got the price worked out-- the only sacrifice required is himself. The world cannot exist if he is not outside of it.

The opposite crime of sacrifice is longing. Inability to accept an imperfect world.

Another way of looking at it is that Han Suyeong, despite her nature, is the type of person who would have walked away from Omelas. She wouldn’t have accepted the pain of a single child as a necessary grease on the wheels of her ferrari.

Or she’s the type of person who was willing to make everyone in the world suffer endless torments because it’s the type of world that would save one person. Isn’t she so kind?

Even though Yoo Jongyuk doesn’t know it, he chose to do this. He wanted to meet someone he could only meet if he suffered and splintered and lost everything.

How brave of him.

He’s standing over the corpses of every one else who cringed away from the price of their desires. Even if he loses everything, there’s one person who will never look away from him, and one person who will always know him, her ink bleeding down his cheek.

That’s ‘romance’. To me.

How to Survive a Haunting, Jade Zhang Duende, Elle Shivers

fanzine - Fan-drawings, comics, writing, meta, fiction, etc. compiled into a self-published work!

I know the internet has taken over what many people, especially in fandom, understand a zine to be, but anyone can make a zine and anyone can make a fanzine. At the zine library I used to help maintain, there was an 8 page mini that was just a bunch of Idris Elba pics with cute kaomoji’s saying “i love uwu idris elba <3”. The first media fanzine was published in 1967, for Star Trek called, “Spockanalia.” Seriously, all you need to do is be impassioned by a subject to write, collage, or draw something about it!

info zine - A zine that shares information. This can be informational, or it can be an instructional zine such as a “DIY Zine” or a “Recipe Zine.”

Trans/Disabled Bibliography, Saul Freedman. I don’t have a link to this one, but it was a really wonderful and short zine of both citations and a love letter to the works cited. Instead, I have linked you to Saul’s zine page on his website 🤠 Patchwork Primer: how do we find what we’re not looking for?, kaythi and seiji. This info zine was created for an event I organized for people creating zines on the margins. I invited the two of them to co-program an activist book club for the event!

litzine - A “literary zine” can be a collection of fiction, poetry, prose, etc. that is self published and distributed as a zine. Also called “lit zine”, or “literary zine”. Some people prefer “chapbook”, or “poetry zine” for poetry.

My favourite litzines are not available anywhere online, so I will describe one of them for you? Todo Parecia de Cristal / “Everything Looked Like Crystal”, Laura Rojas is a collection of photos of the artist’s mom and her siblings growing up paired with journaling between 2015-18. They couldn’t bring photo albums with them when the moved to Canada from Colombia, and the photos had been mailed to her years prior to the making of the zine.

perzine - A “personal zine” focuses on the artist’s life, opinion, or thoughts in some capacity. A zine about yourself, your experiences, your life, a particular memory, your feelings, etc. This is my favourite type of zine!

Sonali Menzes/glittermagpie has some really awesome perzine and info zines about anxiety and mental illness. I have her zines, So you’re anxious as fuck, and You’re so Exotic. Keet Geniza/Make! Shift! Love! is another favourite zinester! I love Keet’s perzine series, Picking Bones, which are full of reflective auto-bio comics and prose. Your Whiteness is Boring: A Gender Perzine, Cleo Peterson.

political zine - Dealing with political topics, anarchy, communism, social justice, historical movements, and present day issues.

GAMES on nights we dream of stars - my first bitsy!! a semi-autobiographical game about the sky on the nature of ghosts - another bitsy, this one about metaphorical ghosts and the nature of being haunted the end is near - yet another bitsy!! probably my favourite one– a soliloquy at the end of the world agami village - a visual novel made with weiwei xu as part of hand eye society’s SUFest, aka the coolest thing i’ve ever done probably. if you like fish and/or time loops check this one out.

ZINES square roots - a collab zine i did with @tigerquoii as part of @blaseballzinejam!! celestial cartography - my first solo zine, also part of the zine jam. every other zine i was a part of for the blaseball zine jam lmao - what it says on the tin untitled perzine about chronic illness and turning 25 - ditto

First the name anulithots - yes, it does have a story... in fact, this blog was originally supposed to be just for the story/writeblr and then JJK took over my brain.

Here fae is:

The overthinking, morbid storytelling, extremely clingy houseplant. Faer name is Anuli and fae's technically the protagonist for the Land of the Fallen Fairies - a story about happiness chasing.

(Anuli in particular is about overthinking so much that reality happens in the background, losing the happy childhood to mistakes caused by aloof-ness, and trying to change yourself (quick fixes) so that way you actually deserve a happy ending).

Anuli is also supposed to be a character that thinks as much as I do and we're both hyperfixated on storytelling.

10 years of Lockwood & Co.!

It’s crazy how much things have changed in that time, how much I personally have changed. I grew up through the books, surviving middle and then high school one year, one book, and one haunting at a time. They inspired me to write fanfiction again - to write again in general - back in the days when I was too tired and depressed to remember writing was something I enjoyed.

Now as an adult, the show brought a whole new group of people to the series, brought me back in again after a few years away. Stroud’s universe draws in people in need of comfort and community, and brings them together into our very own little virtual Portland Row. There is so much kindness and genuine happiness in this fandom; it makes enjoying the series all that much better, even 10 years on!

Between Big Bangs and Zine applications and wonderful fanart and breathtaking fanfiction and just a blindingly brilliant sense of community and belonging, Lockwood & Co. has become something beyond special. Y’all are amazing out there. Keep making this little corner of the internet wonderful.

Okay, it's time for a new pinned post.

Hi, I'm Mint, or Shrooms, depending on who you're talking to. He/him pronouns, and I make original fiction and fanfiction. I recently made the move from Tapas to Wattpad, so here's a link to all of my shit.

Ambrosia is a standalone, centering on a main character being isekaied into a world where horns designate your status as a magic user, and he's the only lizardman with horns, but all he wants to do is cook food. So, obviously, the only option available to him is to cook magical food, and if that lands him a possible elf with disturbingly sharp teeth, well, so be it.

The Legend of the Artificer is a series centering around a person getting reincarnated into a new world, and, using the power of ADHD and autism, with a healthy dose of insanity, becomes an artificer savant in a world where there are no artificer savants. The reading order is The Tower, The Krakos, The Exam, The Haunting, and, finally, the most recent ongoing work, The Gauntlet, which just had six chapters posted today. The Tower is a little janky, because I wrote it in my old style, which was too long for Tapas's word count limit feature, so the chapters are broken up, but it gets to smoother sailing when you hit The Krakos.

All of this takes place in something I'm working on called Cosmic Intervention Media, which is a universe where there are two cosmic beings called the Serpent and the Owl that reincarnate people into other worlds. It was born out of my frustration that there were a limited amount of trans stories in the isekai genre, and there's many more stories to come! I have a lot of stories I've been banned from writing until I finish The Gauntlet and Ambrosia. Eventually, we want to branch out to including other people's works in the universe, maybe a zine or two, and we have an audio drama coming out next year! So, look forward to the announcement about that.

A series of zines describing fantastic settings; intended for TTRPGs but system-neutral. The blurbs convey a weirdness that gladdens my heart — this is the polar opposite of the elfy-dwarfy tropes that I’ve become so bored by. Here’s one:

Riches clog Mr-Kr-Gr’s rivers — but its citizens build neither soaring temple nor palace spire. It is forbidden to set stone upon stone, in Mr-Kr-Gr.

What stone cities exist in Mr-Kr-Gr are overgrown ruins — haunted by corpse-honey hosts; mosquito witches; gods trapped in the prison of their idols.

These old cities are proscribed, also. The crocodiles say so. Doesn’t stop downlander expeditions, though. Old cities are always full of treasure.

Mr-Kr-Gr is an adventure setting inspired by riverine life, the crocodiles of Negeri Sembilan, and the lost cities of Southeast Asia. A rules-less, 44-page gazetteer filled with characters, locations, and detailed black-and-white art. Random NPC, encounter, and magic-crocodile generators.
