Przepisy kuchni molekularnej
Inne techniki kuchni molekularnej obejmują nietypową prezentację i podawanie potraw.

Full story under the break:
By Ralph Blumenthal
Dec. 18, 2017
Our readers are plenty interested in unidentified flying objects. We know that from the huge response to our front-page Sunday article (published online just after noon on Saturday) revealing a secret Pentagon program to investigate U.F.O.s. The piece, by the Pentagon correspondent Helene Cooper, the author Leslie Kean and myself — a contributor to The Times after a 45-year staff career — has dominated the most emailed and most viewed lists since.
So how does a story on U.F.O.s get into The New York Times? Not easily, and only after a great deal of vetting, I assure you.
The journey began two and a half months ago with a tip to Leslie, who has long reported on U.F.O.s and published a 2010 New York Times best seller, “UFOs: Generals, Pilots and Government Officials Go on the Record.” At a confidential meeting Oct. 4 in a Pentagon City hotel with several present and former intelligence officials and a defense contractor, she met Luis Elizondo, the director of a Pentagon program she had never heard of: the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program.
She learned it was a secret effort, funded at the initiative of the then Senate majority leader, Harry Reid, starting in 2007, to investigate aerial threats including what the military preferred to call “unidentified aerial phenomena” or just “objects.” This was big news because the United States military had announced as far back as 1969 that U.F.O.s were not worth studying. Leslie also learned that Mr. Elizondo had just resigned to protest what he characterized as excessive secrecy and internal opposition — the reason for the meeting.
She spent hours with him reviewing unclassified documents, for the $22 million program operated largely “in the white” (that is, not under special restricted access), but hidden in the huge defense budget, with only parts of it classified. A few days later Mr. Elizondo and others there — including Harold E. Puthoff, an engineer who has conducted research on extrasensory perception for the C.I.A. and later worked as a contractor on the program, and Christopher K. Mellon, a former deputy assistant secretary of defense for intelligence — announced they were joining a new commercial venture, To the Stars Academy of Arts and Science, to raise money for research into U.F.O.s. Leslie wrote it up for the Huffington Post with scant details of the program.
I had known Leslie for years, and she told me this looked like a story for The Times. I agreed. Leslie and I met with Mr. Elizondo in Philadelphia on Oct. 31. Three days later, I emailed the executive editor, Dean Baquet, about “a sensational and highly confidential time-sensitive story” that I said “involves a senior U.S. intelligence official who abruptly quit last month” exposing “a deeply secret program, long mythologized but now confirmed.”
He alerted Mark Mazzetti, the investigations editor in the Washington bureau. Leslie and I briefed him in New York on Nov. 7. We assured him there were no anonymous sources; everyone was on the record. After discussions in Washington and New York, Helene joined our team. The Washington bureau chief, Elisabeth Bumiller, would be our editor. On Nov. 17, we three met Mr. Elizondo in a nondescript Washington hotel where he sat with his back to the wall, keeping an eye on the door.
Carl Hulse, The Times’s chief Washington correspondent, was well acquainted with Mr. Reid and helped arrange an interview for Helene. She flew to Las Vegas on Dec. 5 and met with the former senator, who confirmed the program with details, saying, “I’m not embarrassed or ashamed or sorry I got this going.”
Leslie interviewed the aerospace magnate Robert Bigelow, who also confirmed his participation, saying Americans were being held back from serious research into U.F.O.’s by “a juvenile taboo.” And I interviewed a prominent skeptic for perspective.
It was important that we not take anything on faith. This field attracts zealots as well as debunkers, and many Americans remain deeply skeptical that the phenomenon exists as popularly portrayed. In draft after draft, we took pains to let the investigation speak for itself, without bias.
Helene met with a Pentagon spokesperson on Dec. 8 for a response to the information we had gathered. The answer came swiftly. There had been a program to investigate U.F.O.s, but it ended in 2012 after five years, the Defense Department insisted.
Our reporting suggested it continues, largely unfunded, to the present. And that’s what we wrote.

Lo and behold, more screencaps as I delve into the acting filmography of Harold Ramis =)
Again, very small part in one scene, but he puts his all into this role as Warren Beatty's accountant, Sheldon "Shelly" Blumenthal, in the 1994 remake of "Love Affair." Bit of a sleepy movie but great old jazz soundtrack.
What is it about HR and 3-piece suits that I'm very much liking?

The Flavour Approach ………………. Why granny’s cooking leaves you craving? There is some truth in the myth that you simply cannot match the brilliance and magic of your grandma’s culinary skills. The standard excuse is, she was a sly creature who never revealed the cryptic key to her secret recipes. Maybe, but not entirely. I bet, even if you coaxed her into divulging with her clandestine witchcraft, you would never be able to meet such exacting standards. Why? …………… Because she applied the scientific principles to her art through time-tested trial and error, although possibly not knowing the science behind it.
In this write-up, I shall try to explain the flavour approach through a few recipes to make you understand how by applying the basic principles of chemistry and techniques you can flourish by ending up with a product of consistent superlative quality. And I assure you, you will stand out from the rest of the crowd.
But before going into the recipes (click here to try my other recipes), we must understand our shortfalls. Let’s accept the undeniable. The real difference is the technique. And “technique” is the application of science. You cannot suddenly learn in a week what your grandma picked up after years in the kitchen. No, not even if you passed out with top grades from a renowned culinary college. Nor can you match the skills of a great chef like Imtiaz Qureshi or Ghulam Qureshi. Those blokes who hail from the family lineage of royal chefs of Lucknow picked up the techniques even before they could say “Mama”.
But there is a hack. Though they do not think it that way, the great traditional cooks always encrypt in the kitchen what can be decrypted by science. Understand the science and you can definitely be a better cook than what you had been.
The current trend of using fancy but deceitful words like “molecular gastronomy” or “molecular mixology” are nothing but devious marketing gimmickry by the charlatans and the dubious paid media. They confuse the public and enhance the optics to increase sales volumes without ever explaining how the molecules of different chemicals present in food and drinks interact under different circumstances to produce different colours, textures, flavours, aromas, etc.
The renowned food writer Harold McGee pioneered the science behind cooking techniques which was later popularised by the Michelin three-star chef Heston Blumenthal. And now, Nik Sharma of Indian descent has done a wonderful job. Nik’s work, thankfully, is not meant for the science geeks, but for the home cooks. Unlike McGee, Nik, instead of making the science too technical and impenetrable for the layman, has made it interesting and enjoyable. He says, “Flavour = Emotion + Sight + Sound + Mouthfeel + Aroma + Taste”. And I quite agree. The recipes I am sharing here have been tried and tested by me over many days. I can vouch that after I understood the science, and applying the same in practice I am a much better cook now than I was ten years back.
The Flavour ApproachIf you follow the right steps, you can make this rice dish extremely aromatic and flavourful. Always use aged Basmati; rice that is labelled at least one year old. Rinsing the rice gently removes the impurities and the fine dust of starch that is usually present. This starch, if present during cooking will produce a sticky texture which is not at all desirable. Frying the rice in oil and resisting the urge to stir the rice too much during cooking will give you fluffy fully cooked rice grains that are separate and delicately tender.Chop the herbs and grind the spices just before you cook. This will help produce a more intense fragrance and flavour from the herbs and spices. Frying the spices in hot oil aids release the aromatic chemicals.Add fresh lime juice towards the end of the preparation of this dish. If added early the acid will lose its citric aroma.Halloumi is a good substitute for paneer, as it is firm and will not disintegrate on heating. But, keep in mind, it is a bit salty. So, you may need to adjust your seasoning accordingly.
The Flavour ApproachHoney and pineapple provide a sweet counterpart to the warmer flavours in this dish.Keep pineapple and chicken separated until they are threaded onto the skewers. Raw pineapple contains the enzyme bromelain that breaks down the protein molecules into smaller peptides. If the chicken and pineapple are kept together in the marinade, the enzyme will break down the proteins in the chicken which will eventually affect the texture of the chicken once cooked. It will appear crumbly on the surface. But, once heated on the skewers the bromelain loses its capacity to break down the proteins.
Prepare the marinade in a small bowl by combining the lime juice, olive oil, honey, black pepper, coriander, chilli powder, turmeric and salt.
To prepare the kebabs, pat the chicken breasts dry with paper towels and then cut them into 1.5-inch cubes.
Pour the marinade into a resealable bag, add the chicken cubes to it, seal the bag and then shake well to coat the chicken evenly with the marinade. Marinate in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours or overnight.
When ready to grill, remove the bag from the refrigerator and let the chicken come to room temperature.
Cut the pineapple, onion, and bell peppers into 2-inch dices and place them in a large bowl.
Add olive oil and black pepper, season with salt and toss to coat evenly.
Thread a skewer with onion, bell peppers and pineapple, alternating with the marinated pieces of chicken. Brush some marinade over the kebabs.
Heat a grill over medium heat and grease the grates with a little bit of oil.
Cook the kebabs in batches, turning and basting with any remaining marinade and oil.
When the kebabs get browned and charred in spots, transfer the kebabs with the skewers to a plate.
Cover the plate with aluminium foil and let it rest for two minutes for all the flavours to come through.
Discard the foil and garnish the kebabs with cilantro and serve hot with lime wedges on the side.
The above recipes are just a few examples of how the flavour approach works. The art of cooking lies in its science. For us, who have so much exposure to online information, the task is much simpler than that of our grandmas. Yet, our grandmas scored more. I do not buy the argument that they had so much time to spare. If you have the passion, you would manage your time.
The difference between good cooking and great cooking is not about recipes but lies in the hands of the chef. Or, in our case that of our grandmas.

Glowing Auras and ‘Black Money’: The Pentagon’s Mysterious U.F.O. Program
- by HELENE COOPER, RALPH BLUMENTHAL and LESLIE KEANDEC
youtube
- A video shows an encounter between a Navy F/A-18 Super Hornet and an unknown object. It was released by the Defense Department's Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program. WASHINGTON — In the $600 billion annual Defense Department budgets, the $22 million spent on the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program was almost impossible to find.
Which was how the Pentagon wanted it.
For years, the program investigated reports of unidentified flying objects, according to Defense Department officials, interviews with program participants and records obtained by The New York Times. It was run by a military intelligence official, Luis Elizondo, on the fifth floor of the Pentagon’s C Ring, deep within the building’s maze.
The Defense Department has never before acknowledged the existence of the program, which it says it shut down in 2012. But its backers say that, while the Pentagon ended funding for the effort at that time, the program remains in existence. For the past five years, they say, officials with the program have continued to investigate episodes brought to them by service members, while also carrying out their other Defense Department duties.
The shadowy program — parts of it remain classified — began in 2007, and initially it was largely funded at the request of Harry Reid, the Nevada Democrat who was the Senate majority leader at the time and who has long had an interest in space phenomena. Most of the money went to an aerospace research company run by a billionaire entrepreneur and longtime friend of Mr. Reid’s, Robert Bigelow, who is currently working with NASA to produce expandable craft for humans to use in space.
On CBS’s “60 Minutes” in May, Mr. Bigelow said he was “absolutely convinced” that aliens exist and that U.F.O.s have visited Earth.
Working with Mr. Bigelow’s Las Vegas-based company, the program produced documents that describe sightings of aircraft that seemed to move at very high velocities with no visible signs of propulsion, or that hovered with no apparent means of lift.
Officials with the program have also studied videos of encounters between unknown objects and American military aircraft — including one released in August of a whitish oval object, about the size of a commercial plane, chased by two Navy F/A-18F fighter jets from the aircraft carrier Nimitz off the coast of San Diego in 2004.
Mr. Reid, who retired from Congress this year, said he was proud of the program. “I’m not embarrassed or ashamed or sorry I got this thing going,” Mr. Reid said in a recent interview in Nevada. “I think it’s one of the good things I did in my congressional service. I’ve done something that no one has done before.”
Two other former senators and top members of a defense spending subcommittee — Ted Stevens, an Alaska Republican, and Daniel K. Inouye, a Hawaii Democrat — also supported the program. Mr. Stevens died in 2010, and Mr. Inouye in 2012.
While not addressing the merits of the program, Sara Seager, an astrophysicist at M.I.T., cautioned that not knowing the origin of an object does not mean that it is from another planet or galaxy. “When people claim to observe truly unusual phenomena, sometimes it’s worth investigating seriously,” she said. But, she added, “what people sometimes don’t get about science is that we often have phenomena that remain unexplained.”
James E. Oberg, a former NASA space shuttle engineer and the author of 10 books on spaceflight who often debunks U.F.O. sightings, was also doubtful. “There are plenty of prosaic events and human perceptual traits that can account for these stories,” Mr. Oberg said. “Lots of people are active in the air and don’t want others to know about it. They are happy to lurk unrecognized in the noise, or even to stir it up as camouflage.”
Still, Mr. Oberg said he welcomed research. “There could well be a pearl there,” he said.
In response to questions from The Times, Pentagon officials this month acknowledged the existence of the program, which began as part of the Defense Intelligence Agency. Officials insisted that the effort had ended after five years, in 2012.
“It was determined that there were other, higher priority issues that merited funding, and it was in the best interest of the DoD to make a change,” a Pentagon spokesman, Thomas Crosson, said in an email, referring to the Department of Defense.
But Mr. Elizondo said the only thing that had ended was the effort’s government funding, which dried up in 2012. From then on, Mr. Elizondo said in an interview, he worked with officials from the Navy and the C.I.A. He continued to work out of his Pentagon office until this past October, when he resigned to protest what he characterized as excessive secrecy and internal opposition.
“Why aren’t we spending more time and effort on this issue?” Mr. Elizondo wrote in a resignation letter to Defense Secretary Jim Mattis.
Mr. Elizondo said that the effort continued and that he had a successor, whom he declined to name.
U.F.O.s have been repeatedly investigated over the decades in the United States, including by the American military. In 1947, the Air Force began a series of studies that investigated more than 12,000 claimed U.F.O. sightings before it was officially ended in 1969. The project, which included a study code-named Project Blue Book, started in 1952, concluded that most sightings involved stars, clouds, conventional aircraft or spy planes, although 701 remained unexplained.
Robert C. Seamans Jr., the secretary of the Air Force at the time, said in a memorandum announcing the end of Project Blue Book that it “no longer can be justified either on the ground of national security or in the interest of science.”
Mr. Reid said his interest in U.F.O.s came from Mr. Bigelow. In 2007, Mr. Reid said in the interview, Mr. Bigelow told him that an official with the Defense Intelligence Agency had approached him wanting to visit Mr. Bigelow’s ranch in Utah, where he conducted research.
Mr. Reid said he met with agency officials shortly after his meeting with Mr. Bigelow and learned that they wanted to start a research program on U.F.O.s. Mr. Reid then summoned Mr. Stevens and Mr. Inouye to a secure room in the Capitol.
“I had talked to John Glenn a number of years before,” Mr. Reid said, referring to the astronaut and former senator from Ohio, who died in 2016. Mr. Glenn, Mr. Reid said, had told him he thought that the federal government should be looking seriously into U.F.O.s, and should be talking to military service members, particularly pilots, who had reported seeing aircraft they could not identify or explain.
The sightings were not often reported up the military’s chain of command, Mr. Reid said, because service members were afraid they would be laughed at or stigmatized.
The meeting with Mr. Stevens and Mr. Inouye, Mr. Reid said, “was one of the easiest meetings I ever had.”
He added, “Ted Stevens said, ‘I’ve been waiting to do this since I was in the Air Force.’” (The Alaska senator had been a pilot in the Army’s air force, flying transport missions over China during World War II.)
During the meeting, Mr. Reid said, Mr. Stevens recounted being tailed by a strange aircraft with no known origin, which he said had followed his plane for miles.
None of the three senators wanted a public debate on the Senate floor about the funding for the program, Mr. Reid said. “This was so-called black money,” he said. “Stevens knows about it, Inouye knows about it. But that was it, and that’s how we wanted it.” Mr. Reid was referring to the Pentagon budget for classified programs.
Contracts obtained by The Times show a congressional appropriation of just under $22 million beginning in late 2008 through 2011. The money was used for management of the program, research and assessments of the threat posed by the objects.
The funding went to Mr. Bigelow’s company, Bigelow Aerospace, which hired subcontractors and solicited research for the program.
Under Mr. Bigelow’s direction, the company modified buildings in Las Vegas for the storage of metal alloys and other materials that Mr. Elizondo and program contractors said had been recovered from unidentified aerial phenomena. Researchers also studied people who said they had experienced physical effects from encounters with the objects and examined them for any physiological changes. In addition, researchers spoke to military service members who had reported sightings of strange aircraft.
“We’re sort of in the position of what would happen if you gave Leonardo da Vinci a garage-door opener,” said Harold E. Puthoff, an engineer who has conducted research on extrasensory perception for the C.I.A. and later worked as a contractor for the program. “First of all, he’d try to figure out what is this plastic stuff. He wouldn’t know anything about the electromagnetic signals involved or its function.”
The program collected video and audio recordings of reported U.F.O. incidents, including footage from a Navy F/A-18 Super Hornet showing an aircraft surrounded by some kind of glowing aura traveling at high speed and rotating as it moves. The Navy pilots can be heard trying to understand what they are seeing. “There’s a whole fleet of them,” one exclaims. Defense officials declined to release the location and date of the incident.
“Internationally, we are the most backward country in the world on this issue,” Mr. Bigelow said in an interview. “Our scientists are scared of being ostracized, and our media is scared of the stigma. China and Russia are much more open and work on this with huge organizations within their countries. Smaller countries like Belgium, France, England and South American countries like Chile are more open, too. They are proactive and willing to discuss this topic, rather than being held back by a juvenile taboo.”
By 2009, Mr. Reid decided that the program had made such extraordinary discoveries that he argued for heightened security to protect it. “Much progress has been made with the identification of several highly sensitive, unconventional aerospace-related findings,” Mr. Reid said in a letter to William Lynn III, a deputy defense secretary at the time, requesting that it be designated a “restricted special access program” limited to a few listed officials.
A 2009 Pentagon briefing summary of the program prepared by its director at the time asserted that “what was considered science fiction is now science fact,” and that the United States was incapable of defending itself against some of the technologies discovered. Mr. Reid’s request for the special designation was denied.
Mr. Elizondo, in his resignation letter of Oct. 4, said there was a need for more serious attention to “the many accounts from the Navy and other services of unusual aerial systems interfering with military weapon platforms and displaying beyond-next-generation capabilities.” He expressed his frustration with the limitations placed on the program, telling Mr. Mattis that “there remains a vital need to ascertain capability and intent of these phenomena for the benefit of the armed forces and the nation.”
Mr. Elizondo has now joined Mr. Puthoff and another former Defense Department official, Christopher K. Mellon, who was a deputy assistant secretary of defense for intelligence, in a new commercial venture called To the Stars Academy of Arts and Science. They are speaking publicly about their efforts as their venture aims to raise money for research into U.F.O.s.
In the interview, Mr. Elizondo said he and his government colleagues had determined that the phenomena they had studied did not seem to originate from any country. “That fact is not something any government or institution should classify in order to keep secret from the people,” he said.
For his part, Mr. Reid said he did not know where the objects had come from. “If anyone says they have the answers now, they’re fooling themselves,” he said. “We do not know.”

POLL: 1 IN 3 BRITISH JEWS HAS CONSIDERED EMIGRATING DUE TO ANTISEMITISM

In interviews with thousands of British Jews, almost a third of them said they have considered leaving the United Kingdom over the past two years due to antisemitism. The findings are part of a report published Sunday by the Campaign Against Antisemitism watchdog group, which conducted since 2015 interviews with more than 10,000 British Jews together with the YouGov market research company.
Be the first to know -
Join our Facebook page.
In interviews conducted in 2016 and 2017 with a combined sample population of 7,156 respondents, 37 percent of them said they have been concealing in public signs that would indicate that they are Jewish.
Only 59 percent of the respondents since 2015 said they feel welcome in the United Kingdom and 17 percent said they feel unwelcome.
Only 39 percent of respondents from 2015 onward said they trust justice authorities to prosecute perpetrators of antisemitic hate crimes.
Three-quarters of the people interviewed said they feel that recent political events have resulted in increased hostility towards Jews. Since 2015, 80 percent of respondents said they believe that the Labour Party is harboring antisemites in its ranks.
In 2015, Jeremy Corbyn, a far-left politician who in 2009 called Hezbollah and Hamas his “friends,” was elected to lead Labour. Corbyn said last year that he regrets calling the terrorists his friends but Jewish groups in the United Kingdom and beyond have accused him of whitewashing antisemitism and allowing it to grow among the many thousands of supporters who joined Labour in support of his policies.
Corbyn has denied this claim, vowing to punish anyone who is found initiating or participating in hate speech. Dozens of members were expelled from Labour under Corbyn as part of this policy. However, several Labour members who were accused of antisemitic hate speech were readmitted or let off with suspensions or reprimands, including former London Mayor Ken Livingstone who repeatedly said last year that Adolf Hitler was a Zionist.
On August 15, Campaign Against Antisemitism protested the selection of Luke Cresswell, a local politician who wrote online that “Moses must be proud” of supposed “genocide” by Israel, as a Labour candidate.
The survey’s respondents said they considered Islamist antisemitism “to be the threat that concerned them the most, and that rapidly rising hate crime targeting Jews was not being tackled by the authorities,” Campaign Against Antisemitism wrote.
The Jewish community of the United Kingdom recorded 767 antisemitic attacks in the first half of 2017 — the highest figure recorded within six months since monitoring began in 1984. In February, the Community Security Trust watchdog reported a record 1,309 incidents in 2016, constituting a 36 percent increase over the 2015 tally.
Among the people who told Campaign Against Antisemitism that they were considering leaving Britain was a daughter of the late mayor of Birmingham, Harold Blumenthal. The daughter, Mandy, “is now making preparations to leave Britain due to mounting antisemitism in politics and antisemitic crime, and the failure to tackle it,” the Campaign Against Antisemitism report said in a statement about their report.
Campaign Against Antisemitism called on the government to urgently implement the group’s own past recommendations, including specific training and guidance on antisemitic hate crime for officers and prosecutors.
The 2016 National Antisemitic Crime Audit registered a total of 1,078 antisemitic crimes, including 105 that were violent. Only one of the violent crimes was prosecuted, according to the audit. In total, only 15 cases were prosecuted, leading to the conviction of 17 suspects.
Political parties were encouraged by Campaign Against Antisemitism in its report to adopt the government’s definition of antisemitism, which cites vitriolic hate speech against Israel as an expression of antisemitism

Mandalorian, Wormholes & Two Shitties
Welcome back to another fun filled episode from those irascible Nerds we all look forward to each week. Oh, and what a show we have for you all, let me tell you. What, hurry up you say, well then. First up we have DJ giving us an update on the Marvel movies failing to impress and the arguments have continued. This week we have some delusional moron, believe me you will agree that they are a moron when you hear what they have done. Oh right, well this delusional moron says what has got to be the dumbest thing and the biggest lie in history. It sets Buck off like all the fireworks for New Year’s Eve in one go. My goodness, he really tears into this one like nothing before. If you listen in just to hear him rant about some misguided fool then you will love this one, plus you might learn a few new insults.
Next up, after he catches his breathe Buck tells us about how some scientists believe they have figured out how to identify the existence of Wormholes. That’s right we said Wormholes. Those supposed mythical sci-fi tunnels through time and space purportedly linking us to the farthest reaches of the universe? Multiverse? Dimensional gateways? Well who knows, the gravity is more then we can fathom at this time. But it is something to do with that….Ahh, almost had me there. You will have to listen in to hear what and how the physicists think they can determine whether or not a wormhole exists.
Then we move to a legendary tale for inspiration in what we have crappily dubbed “A Tale of Two Shitties!” Sorry, couldn’t resist the sloppy pun, messy though it is, haha, that just plopped out. Anyway, we look at two epically bad mistakes from two different games studios and have a laugh and cry at the stupidity and hubris involved. These tales of woe and calamity are similar but different, and for one we will cheer and hope. The other we will jeer and poke, fun of naturally. Now, since we have you so excited to know this tale of misfortune we invite ye to listen further to the tale in yonder episode.
Finishing off as always with the regular shout outs, remembrances, birthdays, and special events of interest. We also wish to invite you all to come join us at Supanova in Brisbane on Saturday 9th November. We do not have the faintest idea of which table we will be at, other than it is the TNC productions booth. So come along and say hi, join us in our game and meet the goofballs that are the Nerds. As always take care of yourselves, look out for each other and stay hydrated.

Leaving aside the validity of what has become known as the “Steele dossier,” it’s important to look at how Christopher Steele was able to guarantee that the information in it would play a significant and ongoing role in American politics.
Steele, who is British, did far more than simply provide opposition research to the Democratic National Committee. He was able to make sure it reached the most influential people possible in politics, media and government to shape and influence the growing narrative of the 2016 presidential election. In other words, as a skilled professional intelligence officer, Steele ran a full-spectrum information operation against the United States. One could even call it information warfare.
This is what separates his work creating the dossier (which a decent journalist with friends in Russia could have done) from his work insinuating the dossier into the highest reaches of American government and political society. For that, you need a real pro, an intelligence officer with decades of experience running just that kind of operation. Looking for foreign interference in the 2016 election? Let’s take a closer look at Christopher Steele.
Steele’s skill is revealed by the now familiar Nunes and Grassley memos, which show he used the same set of information in the dossier to create a collaboration loop, every intelligence officer’s dream, which is his own planted information used to surreptitiously confirm itself, right up to the point where the target country’s own intelligence service re-purposed it as evidence in the FISA (Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act) court.
Steele admits he briefed journalists off-the-record starting in summer and autumn 2016. His most significant hit came when in September 2016, journalist Michael Isikoff broke the story of Trump associate Carter Page’s alleged connections to Russia. Isikoff did not cite the dossier or Steele as sources, and in fact denied they were when questioned.
Isikoff’s story didn’t just push negative information about Trump into the public consciousness. It claimed U.S. intel officials were probing ties between a Trump adviser and the Kremlin, adding credibility, suggesting the feds themselves felt the info was worthwhile. Better yet for Steele, Isikoff claimed the information came from a “well-placed Western intelligence source,” suggesting it originated from a third-party and was picked up by Western spies instead of being written by one. Steele, either as a source himself or via colleagues passing around his information, saw to it the dossier information reached journalists at Mother Jones, the BBC, Guardian and others. An article by Harold Blum in Vanity Fair laid it out in April of last year:
It wasn’t long before, as The New York Times would write, the memos by the former spy “became one of Washington’s worst-kept secrets, as reporters . . . scrambled to confirm or disprove them.”
At the same time, Steele’s info reached influential people like Sen. John McCain, who could then pick up a newspaper and believe he was seeing the “secret” info from Steele confirmed independently by an experienced journalist. And how did McCain first learn about Steele’s work? At a conference in Canada, via Andrew Wood, former British Ambassador in Moscow. Where was Wood working at the time? Orbis, Christopher Steele’s research firm.
A copy of the dossier even found its way to the State Department, an organization which normally should have been far removed from U.S. election politics. A contact within State passed information from Clinton associates Sidney Blumenthal and Cody Shearer (both men also played active roles behind in the scenes feeding Clinton dubious information on Libya) to and from Steele. The Grassley memo suggests there is was a second Steele document, in addition to the dossier, already shared with State and the FBI but not made public.
While seeding his dossier in the media and around Washington, Steele was also meeting in secret with the FBI (he claims he did not inform Fusion GPS, his employer), via an FBI counterintelligence handler in Rome. Steele began feeding the FBI in July 2016 with updates into the fall, apparently in the odd guise of simply a deeply concerned, loyal British subject. “This is something of huge significance, way above party politics,” Steele commented as to his motives.
The FBI, in the process of working Steele, would have likely characterized him as a “source,” technically an “extra-territorial confidential human source.” That meant the dossier’s claims appeared to come from the ex-MI6 officer with the good reputation, not second-hand from who-knows-who in Russia (the FBI emphasized Steele’s reputation when presenting the dossier to the FISA court). Think of it as a kind of money laundering which, like that process, helped muddy the real source of the goods.
The FBI used the Steele dossier to apply for a FISA court surveillance warrant against Carter Page. The FBI also submitted Isikoff’s story as collaborating evidence, without explaining the article and the dossier were effectively one in the same. In intelligence work, this is known as cross-contamination, an amateur error. The FBI however, according to the Nunes memo, did not tell the FISA court the Steele dossier was funded by the Democratic National Committee as commissioned opposition research, nor did they tell the court the Isikoff article presented as collaborating evidence was in fact based on the same dossier.
Steele reached an agreement with the FBI a few weeks before the election for the bureau to pay him $50,000 to continue his “research,” though the deal is believed to have fallen through after the dossier became public (an intelligence community source tells The American Conservative Steele did in fact operate as a fully paid FBI asset.) Along the way, the FBI also informed Steele of their separate investigation into Trump staffer George Papadopoulos, a violation of security and a possible tainting of Steele’s research going forward.
The Nunes memo also showed then-associate deputy attorney general Bruce Ohr back-channeled additional material from Steele into the DOJ while working with Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates and her replacement, Rod Rosenstein. Ohr’s wife Nellie Ohr worked for Fusion GPS, the firm that commissioned the dossier, on Steele’s project. Ohr’s wife would be especially valuable in that she would be able to clandestinely supply info to collaborate what Steele told the FBI and, via her husband, know to tailor what she passed to the questions DOJ had. The FBI did not disclose the role of Ohr’s wife, who speaks Russian and has previously done contract work for the CIA, to the FISA court.
Ohr’s wife only began work for Fusion GPS in September/October 2016, as the FBI sought the warrant against Page based on the Steele dossier. Ohr’s wife taking a new job with Fusion GPS at that critical juncture screams of the efforts of an experienced intelligence officer looking to create yet another inside pipeline inside, essentially his own asset.
For the operation’s audacity, it was impressive: Steele took a dossier paid for by one party, and drove it deep into the Washington political machinery. His work formed in part the justification for a FISA warrant to spy on a Trump associate, the end game of which has not yet been written.
In that time, he maneuvered himself from paid opposition researcher to clandestine source for the FBI. Steele then may have planted the spouse of a senior DOJ employee as a second clandestine source to move more information into DOJ. In the intelligence world, that is as good as it gets; via two seemingly independent channels you are controlling the opponent’s information cycle.
Steele further manipulated the American media to have his information amplified and given credibility. By working simultaneously as both an anonymous and a cited source, he got his same info out as if it was coming from multiple places.
The Washington Post characterized Steele as “struggling to navigate dual obligations — to his private clients, who were paying him to help Clinton win, and to a sense of public duty born of his previous life.” But The Washington Post has no idea how intelligence officers work. Their job is to befriend and engage the target to carry out the goals of their employer. When they do it right, the public summation is a line like the Post offered: you never even knew you were being used.
Meanwhile, there is informed speculation Steele was more than a source for the FBI, and actually may have been tasked and paid to search for specific information, essentially working as a double agent for the FBI and the DNC. Others have raised questions about Steele’s status as “retired” from British intelligence, as the lines among working for MI6, working at MI6, and working with MI6 are often times largely a matter of semantics (for the record, Steele’s old boss at MI6 calls the dossier credible; an intelligence community source tells The American Conservative Steele shared all of his information with MI6.)
As for the performance of the DOJ/FBI, we do not have enough information to judge whether they were incompetent, or simply willing partners to what Steele was up to, using him as a handy pretext to open legal surveillance on someone inside the Trump circle.
So, putting talk of Russian meddling aside for a moment, is it not fair to ask if what Christopher Steele was doing could be construed as foreign influence in an American election?

Đoạn video ghi cảnh chiến đấu cơ Mỹ chạm trán UFO tháng 11-2004 do Bộ Quốc phòng Mỹ vừa công bố – Nguồn: YOUTUBE

She was married to Mack Brock in 1942 and enjoyed 72 years of marriage with him until his death in 2015. They met during wartime at the Wilkes Hosiery Mill, and as newlyweds lived near various naval bases, from Newport, RI, to Gulfport, MI, where Mack was stationed and where Agnes put her typing and clerical skills to work in government offices.
Later in their rock home on the Brocktown Rd., Agnes became a homemaker and the devoted mother of two daughters, Maxine and Rosalind. She enjoyed sewing dresses, cooking, gardening, and volunteering for the Red Cross Bloodmobile. She took satisfaction in her basement larder of canned goods, from half-gallons of tomato juice made from volunteer "tommy-toes," to pints of blackberry jam and pickles, and quarts of canned green beans from the garden. As the work-at-home secretarial assistant for Brock and Triplett Machine Shop, she once again put her typing skills to good use.
An active member of Walnut Grove Baptist Church, Agnes taught the adult ladies' Sunday School class for almost 40 years. She sang in the choir, taught Vacation Bible School, and faithfully cooked unleavened bread for decades of communion services.
Agnes will be remembered by her grandchildren as a never-ending source of original stories and games. Always singing in the car, rocking chair, and while doing chores, she taught the family hundreds of songs as well as poems she had memorized and stories she had heard while a girl.
As her horizons narrowed in her last years, Agnes took great pleasure in looking out the window to enjoy "yet another beautiful day" from inside. A flowering shrub, one gracefully shaped oak leaf, a hummingbird at the nectar feeder-these simple delights never failed to draw her astonished praise of a Creator who loves us enough to fill the world with beauty for us to enjoy. In sorrow and joy, we celebrate her beautiful life, another gift from His hand.

Writing Your Politician Biography the Right Way
Whatever stage in your political career you find yourself, you could always do with a few tips on correctly composing a politician biography to best suit your goals and objectives. After all, former President Bill Clinton said: “You don’t have to wait till your party’s in power to have an impact on life at home and around the world.” It’s important that you add a personal touch to your biography but there’s a right way to go about it and a wrong way to approach it. Learn which is which with this essential guide. All the most famous politicians have been able to remain in the public eye for good reason and a lot of their success has to do with the way in which they represent themselves and their achievements. You can learn from political biographies written by a range of statesmen and women from across the spectrum from far-left to centrist to far-right. Top Political Biography Tips From Our Writers
When it comes to your biography, the most important thing is to demonstrate how you differ from your contemporaries. In particular, your political biography should clearly state how your individual policies or approaches to a problem have made a real difference to your constituents.
Whether you’re working at a local council level or on the national stage, it doesn’t really matter as long as you can show that you make a genuine difference to people’s lives to the appropriate extent for your individual position. Working alongside a professional writer will help you to get your point across efficiently and usefully.
Forging a successful political career is not easy, not by any means at all. It requires a nuanced understanding of a number of factors and needs a very specific approach. If you’re focused on becoming a politician, following the expert tips below would be an excellent place to start.
Start by listing your experiences and achievements in both your professional and personal life. This task might initially feel much like writing a resume, which it is in a certain sense.
Consider your personal qualities that distinguish you from your rivals in a positive light. This is one of the most important things that any political bio worth its salt should include.
Gather evidence of your achievements and any other information you want to include in your biography. You need to be able to support anything you say with the appropriate level of proof.
Make sure your political bio strikes all the right chords with your peers by adding statements of purpose throughout your descriptions and explanations of various events.
If you were involved in events that are now negatively perceived by a significant proportion of your likely audience, use this opportunity to explain your actions rationally. Don’t go out of your way to attack former or present opponents though.
Demonstrate that you have a good insight into what the general population needs from someone in your position. Ultimately, the purpose of your biography is to explain why you did the things you did and show how you had the best intentions at heart.
Aside from the content, you need to make sure that your biography is written clearly and professionally. You should check your text for flow as well as for grammatical errors and so on. It’s important that you get your intended message across.
As you write, make sure you remember that your readers will analyze and criticize your words. Be prepared to justify your text at all times.
Consider hiring a skilled editor or even a ghostwriter to put your words on the page in the best possible way to achieve your intended effect. We provide a range of writers for all your biography writing needs.
