Colour Theory Seminar

I found this seminar really interesting it was nice to hear more about colour than just the basic cyan + magenta + yellow = colour wheel

The bit that interested me the most was the concept of patenting colours. I think the idea that somebody can own a colour is ridiculous and the definition of hubris, and a display of how capitalism can hold art back significantly. I guess the colours have to be produced but put the means of production (of colour) back in the hands of the people I say.

Anish Kapoor getting his hands on the pinkest pink was a bit frustrating, very greedy of an artist to think they should have access to every colour despite making it so they are the only artist who can use one specific one. Semple did make black 3.0 which is the world's blackest acrylic paint (which Anish Kapoor can't buy) though. It absorbs 98-99% of light, so it's not the blackest pigment, that's still vanta black, but it is the blackest paint so that's pretty impressive.

I like how important colour is to humans and how it can rouse such emotion in us, represent so much and foster community. It's a powerful tool in art especially in painting. Finding harmonizing colours that use colour psychology to help the painting have a bigger impact is fun.
