ᨐฅ I have decided I'd like to try my hand at writing for the tale of food-- it's unfortunately not very popular so there isn't much fan content out there. I'm sure it'll gain more popularity soon though!
ᨐฅ fair warning though, I have not gotten very far into the story so the characters will likely be out of character. I will be writing my interpretations of the characters.
ᨐฅ also I'll only be writing headcanons [ like, bullet pointed hcs! ]
♪ ꒰Here come the characters I'm willing to write for!꒱ [more coming soon..!]
☆ Cat Ear Cookie
☆ Osmanthus Wine

top 5 dumplings pls :D
xiaolongbao literally top dumpling EVER anyone who says otherwise is literally wrong sorry!!! unless you are a vegetarian i guess in which case i respect your hustle 🫡 but surely there must be vegetarian xiaolongbao in this world, no?
ok this doesn't take #1 because whether or not it counts as a dumpling is up for debate but zongzi are sooo good and people do call them 'sticky rice dumplings' SO. i am counting it. it's more of a dumpling than an empanada or samosa is imo
there were these amazing pork & leek steamed dumplings at lili's which is a xi'anese restaurant in amherst massachusetts. now to be clear if you go to lili's you should get the biang biang noodles first and foremost BUT!! the pork and leek dumplings are a very good appetizer
ok i wikipedia'd 'list of dumplings' to make sure i didn't forget any and among other things they listed empanadas, samosa, pupusas, and......tamales. which. i realize tamales (especially oaxacan tamales which are the best kind) and zongzi are TECHNICALLY very similar except that tamales are made of masa and zongzi are made of sticky rice but calling a tamale a dumpling feels WRONG. but objectively i cannot disagree that if a zongzi can be on this list then so can a tamale. so oaxacan tamales take the #4 spot, even though i like them more than #3, because imo they do not have Dumpling Vibes
i refuse to concede that a samosa or empanada are dumplings however. those are Pastries. i am also skeptical of baozi being dumplings even though i concede that xiaolongbao is technically a type of bao. but baozi are much breadier it's different imo. also i prefer open bao buns to baozi which is definitely not a dumpling that's a sammich. however i do like dessert bao especially chocolate lava bao. so i will choose to allow baozi into the dumpling category and put chocolate lava bao at #5

Went to Canton Paradise (乐天小香港) at Junction 8 after praying at the temple. We were seated at two different tables, so each ordered their dishes separately. This Braised Peanut & Chestnut was the appetizer they placed on the table. Whole savoury peanuts with sweet chestnuts perked up the tastebuds as we poured ourselves the Glutinous Rice Pu-Erh Tea (糯米沱普洱茶).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We started off with the classic dim sum Siew Mai or Steamed Pork Dumpling (鱼子蒸烧卖皇). The pork and prawn filling with sprinkling of flying fish roe adding specks of colour is both meaty and wholesome tasting. Then came the Har Gow or Steamed Prawn Dumpling (笋尖鲜虾饺) with chunky succulent and crunchy prawn enclosed inside the translucent skin.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Steamed Xiao Long Bao (上海小笼包) or soup dumpling is also another must order item. Pick it up gently with chopsticks into a soup spoon. Take a small bite in the dumpling skin and proceed to suck out the soup (beware, it's hot) then popped the whole thing into the mouth.

Unspoken Appreciation
Warning(s): Gender-neutral reader, OOC?
Fandom: The Tale of Food
Summary: Fuli Chicken really doesn’t understand why the Young Master chose him out of all the other spirits in Kongsang.
Notes: My motivation spiked and hopefully my character accuracy improves too. The brothers just really need to talk it out.
Tumblr media
Fuli Chicken doesn’t get it.
Why did you choose him out of all the skilled spirits living in Kongsang? Over his brother even? Did the Sun get in your eye or something? Fuli, as much as he hated to admit it, was “ordinary” compared to his brother, compared to many other residents of Kongsang. He was a shadow, someone meant to support his “talented” older brother, that no one paid attention to. That’s why he always practiced at night when no one was looking, no expectations to live up to or eyes watching when he made a mistake.
So how did you notice him? When did you eyes move from the light to the shadow that follows it? Why? In an attempt to get rid of the annoying thoughts plaguing his mind, he finally asked you the question.
“Why do you like me?”
To be honest, he wasn’t expecting an answer considering how focused you were on trying to play the right note on the harmonica. Another thing he doesn’t get, why he decided to teach you how to play the instrument. He was probably just bored and continued to teach you. Yeah, that definitely it.
“I don’t like you Ah-Fu..”
The thought he was entertaining as he waited for an answer that he hoped would never come but did in the most hurtful way imaginable came to a full stop. His expression remained the same as it always did, a small frown with some grumpiness to it yet his eyes betrayed him. Full of sadness mixed in with anger. He shouldn’t have expected much. He shouldn’t have hoped you’d be able to see him. This is why freedom was much better, if he was free then he wouldn’t have had to deal with this pai-
“..I love you. There’s a difference silly.”
His eyes widened in shock. Whatever thoughts that ran rampant in his mind came to an even bigger full stop. If his mind was a train then it would’ve been out of commission by now with the sudden straightforward confession. Anyone who looked at him now would say he was just like a tomato dish or think that he ate something so spicy his entire face turned red. Pulling down his hat in an attempt to hide his reddened face, his ears now betraying them with its red tints, Fuli turned his head away to face anything but you.
“T-tsk! You’re still playing the wrong note! You…come back tomorrow!”
And so the only option left to save himself from further embarrassment and eventual teasing from you was to run away. His face still red and an even bigger frown on his face than usual but his eyes held nothing but happiness in them. He’ll reply to you tomorrow with his own confession but for now…he’ll go and look for a better harmonica for you to play with him.

I got “The Tale of Food” the other day and man, as an old Food Fantasy player, this game is hitting my nostalgia close to home. I’m enjoying it so much.
So far my only complaint is that I haven’t gotten any big titty women yet, but I’m coping by staring at Harbin Fried Pork

Shrimp Har Gow Cookie
Tumblr media
SPOILERS FOR THE ENDING OF "THE BURNS MELTED INTO GOLD" AND IN SICKNESS AND NEVER IN HEALTH AU
This little Haetae is a centaur of a rare kind! While she does still act as a guardian, her Papa says that she needs to finish her academics before she becomes a fearsome Haetae guardian of the Kingdom.
Shrimp Har Gow Cookie (or Shrimp Har Gow Dumpling Haetae Cookie) is the adopted daughter of the Pharaoh. She was created and born via the same methods used to create Cloud Haetae Cookie and the Dumpling Kings. But the only problem was that she was born sickly, the Pharaoh took her under his wing (literally) and nursed her back to health.
Upon seeing the Pharaoh, the little centaur Haetae called him "Papa" and it was sealed.
She is currently enrolled in her homeschooling thanks to her grand uncles and aunts but she has also been begging to attend Parafedia School of Magic for friends. You don't get to have a lot of friends as the Princess of the Kingdom of Soft Sun Rays. Maybe she'll get her wish granted if she uses her "Haetae puppy eyes"

Dim Sum House, 754 Bockman Rd, San Lorenzo, CA 94580
Tumblr media
This is a very small place takeout dim sum spot but the quality is higher than your typical takeout dim sum shop. They make everything from scratch and seem committed to quality. And, it’s fresher than what you usually get. Items are freshly steamed to order and served piping hot. They also have frozen items. Some items need to be preordered like the zhongzi and steamed radish cake.
The wide variety of offerings includes chicken feet, siu mai, har gow, XLB, other dumplings, spring rolls, taro puffs, steamed buns, baked buns, rice noodle rolls, sponge cake, turnip cakes, mochi, sticky rice wrapped in lotus leaf, etc. A small order with three pieces generally $4.49 - $4.89. I bought a few things for my father and everything looked so good.
Glutinous rice rolls: we used to get these in Oakland but they were always room temperature. Dim Sum House’s rice rolls were served hot. The exterior is like a steamed white bun and the interior is stuffed with seasoned sticky rice with dried shrimp. It’s chewy, soft, savory. So good!
If you’re smart, you’ll call ahead to order. Note, there’s very little parking (only two spots in front) and the street is crazy busy. You’ll have to wait outside for your order. Unfortunately, there is no place to sit and enjoy your dim sum feast.
4.5 out of 5 stars.
