My Ted Lasso Re-watch: S1E9 (part 2)
All Apologies
Daily Planet reference - makes sense Ted would like Superman.
Ted understands introverts not wanting to raise their hands under any circumstances. And he's not a fan of the Westboro Baptist Church. Who is really? They're a bunch of, and I quote Keeley here, 'floppy cocks'.
Ted is an LGBTQ+ ally. Another reason to love Ted.
Beard has been paid to bite someone's arse? I need the full story on this man's life and all the shit he has gotten up to. No judgement, I just want to hear it. Nate's concerned look at Beard seals it. As does his later question of 'Where?'
Ted values their opinions despite thinking that they're wrong, is like when Trent asks Ted and Beard for their opinion on his book and says that he'll respect their opinion and will gladly tell them where they're wrong.
'I'm Audi 5000' are you from the 90s? That's like something you'd hear in Clueless. I'm pretty sure someone did say something like that actually. I think Tai said after she insulted Cher about being a virgin who can't drive, after she was told not to persue Josh because secretly Cher liked Josh. Yes, I have seen this film, though not in quite a few years.
Ted wants Roy to be a part of the starting line up because he knows that he'll be wanting to go out on a high instead of slowly becoming washed up. Ted has Roy's back.
Ted walking into Rebecca's office and doing all the little things he does makes him even more adorable. Yeah, I don't see this ending any time soon. God dammit.
Rebtalling about procrastinating to procrastinate having to tell Ted about all the shitty things she did.
I love Ted's rewind of him walking into Rebecca's office. It's cute and funny.
Then in comes the c***. Sorry, I meant to say Rupert... No, I was right the first time actually.
Rupert liked Higgins because Higgins would do anything he asked for fear of losing his job and his life being made miserable. He covered up Rupert's affairs and kept Rebecca in the dark. That's why he liked Higgins. And that offer Rupert casually mentioned, would be more of the same, but would be hiding the affairs from Bex.
Rupert and Bex are having a baby. Fuck you, Rupert. Rebecca probably wanted a child but because he didn't want one with her, she never got the chance. And you can see how hurt she is. She gave up something she wanted for him. She gave up so much of her life for him. And he now gets to throw it back at her like it's nothing. All because she left him and his control over her. Trying to be civil in front of your manipulative, narcissistic ex is hard to do. Mine was only my friend, not a romantic partner in anyway, but trying to be civil with him was impossible the very last time I saw him, because I wanted answers and every time I demanded them he would skirt around the issue. I get Rebecca's hurt here. He controlled so much of her life and stopped her from doing the things she wanted to do, and he gets to live his life now with someone who can do those things and he wants that with them. He lives off of her pain and suffering. He chose to tell her because he wanted to see the pain first hand. Schadenfreude at it's finest. Fuck you, Rupert. Though very well done to Antony Stewart Head for playing him so well.
Hannah Waddingham deserved her Emmy for this episode in this scene and coming clean to Ted. She deserves all the love and praise for her acting. No one could have done it better than her.

it's so funny, the first time I became aware of Hannah Waddingham was seeing her in the netflix show Sex Education (highly recommend btw! her character is married to a black woman and they have a son who was birthed by her wife) and while I didn't love her character, her scenes were still enjoyable to watch. I didn't see her in anything after that until Ted Lasso and now I am utterly obsessed and can't imagine not being of aware of her on the level I am now :)
every day i thank god for bringing hannah waddingham into my life via ted lasso via jason sudeikis (he's good for something ig)
i haven't watched sex education yet but know people really like it and have heard good things so it's on my list! i'm just so thrilled for her success like yes praise and awards and all that don't mean everything but god does she deserve it all and more because not only is she so fckn brilliant and talented she truly seems like the best human on planet earth maybe
#some friends i know that are into the west end and such#have been like FINALLY she's getting recognition#we just all around love to see it#anon#answered

Since we're talking about awards, can you list your favorites for the main categories? I mean, who would you give the award for best drama, best comedy...?
I don't know if I totally have faves, but I guess? I also am far less versed in all the drama competition because I will fully admit I haven't watched Succession despite knowing it's going to win everything. I'll come back to Drama later. Also I feel like my faves are still semi based in reality where I'm not picking shows that have no chances of noms.
Comedy I'm really torn and also some things haven't been released yet.
Best Comedy: I'd take either Ted Lasso or Abbott. I can't really judge Hacks S2 as yet. But I wouldn't be mad at other winners.
Best Comedy Actor: Hmm. I think Jason Sudeikis is still going to win and it would be deserved, but either him or Steve Martin or Bill Hader.
Best Comedy Actress: Quinta Brunson or Jean Smart, and yes, I'm putting Jean Smart here without having seen S2 of Hacks yet because she's Jean Smart and she will elevate anything she's given.
Best Comedy Supporting Actor: So I'm not a big fan of SNL people being in these categories, but I'd like to see Bowen Yang possibly take it. Or I'd love Nick Mohammed from Ted Lasso to get his due, but I think assuredly it will be Brett Goldstein. Which don't get me wrong, I love Brett and Roy but let's just say his S1 Emmy was largely based off his S2 work.
Best Comedy Supporting Actress: I wouldn't be mad at any of them, but either Sheryl Lee Ralph, Janelle James or a repeat Hannah Waddingham win (which IMO would be deserved as the depths of her acting ability are insane).

Emmy nominations have been announced. I lost the livestream and missed many a category but I know Jason, PHIL!!, Declan Lowney, Nicky Austin, Juno, Hannah, Sam Richardson,Brett,Tom Howe, Christa Miller, Harriet Walter, Sarah Niles, Nancy Ann Baker (Dottie Lasso) and the show are nominated in writing and Best Comedy Series.
*Curious as to whether Leanne Best put herself up for her appearance as Jamie's mother. She certainly deserved a nomination.
With the writers' strike ongoing and a looming actors' strike, the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences and their Emmys broadcast partner Fox are looking to postpone the event. However, both entities have different dates in mind. The Academy wants it in November, whereas Fox is pushing for January.
If it goes to January the airdate would likely be January 21st as right now (despite not having a broadcast partner), the Golden Globes are slated for January 7th and the Critics Choice Awards on January 14th.
If the Emmys are pushed, there is no word on when the Creative Arts Emmys - which has been spread ridiculously over two weekends - will air.
Hopefully this will all be for nought as the studio execs are seeking mediation and hoping that would get them closer to a deal.
Yesterday, the Hollywood Critics Association released their nominations and TED LASSO seven nominations. The 1st year of the series - which tied into the first year the HCA had a strictly streaming category -, the show received eight nominations, garnering 4 wins. Last year TED LASSO received 11 nominations and garnered 2 wins. So seven isn't too bad. Shockingly, it didn't get a nomination for Best Writing, but Brett Goldstein did for the pilot for SHRINKING.
Hnnah Waddingham managed two nominations herself: a nomination for her role in TOM JONES
Where she is up against her pal Lena Headey;
and Best Supporting Actress for TED LASSO.
I love how the cast wants awards to finally recognize Phil.
-Another Greyhound has seen Toheeb Jimoh's ROMEO AND JULIET.
Zava Dabba Doo!
-Coach Beard alone will win all the money, but with the exception murder and smoking crack, Ted will win a pretty penny too.

The 73rd Emmy Awards nominations were announced by father/daughter duo Ron Cephas Jones (THIS IS US) and Jasmine Cephas Jones (Starz’s BLINDSPOTTING, HAMILTON).
Surely it was a good morning for Jasmine as her fiancé Anthony Ramos
and their HAMILTON costars Lin-Manual Miranda, Leslie Odom Jr., Daveed Diggs, Jonathan Groff, Phillipa Soo and Renée Elise Goldsberry were nominated thanks to the production being released on Disney+ .
Many fans were happy for Goldsberry’s nod but felt she should have also been nominated for her role in Peacock’s GIRLS 5EVA
The most jarring category nomination was Don Cheadle’s nomination (his eleventh!) for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for his 98 seconds (literally, 98 seconds) appearance in THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER. The worst of it is that he didn’t snag a nomination for his actual Showtime series BLACK MONDAY, a role he’s been twice nominated for.
Many people...had thoughts.
Don’t hate the player, hate the game.
Other nominations and snubs...
THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER and HAMILTON was not the only Disney+ content to get nods, WANDAVISION was recognized with Elizabeth Olson, Kathryn Hahn and Paul Bettany all snagging nominations.
Lizzie’s husband breaking the good news.
Bettany was also chuffed to find out that his Amazon Prime film - the richly deserving UNCLE FRANK - was also nominated in the category of Outstanding TV Movie.
THE MANDALORIAN also received nominations
The majority of THE MANDALORIAN’s nominations were in the technical realm but the show did garner three acting nominations: Carl Weathers, Giancarlo Esposito and that silver fox Timothy Olyphant.
When I think about how he was only nominated once for JUSTIFIED and zero times for Netflix’s THE SANTA CLARITA DIET I want to scream.
- A galaxy far, far away from Obi Wan Kenobi in characterization is Halston but Ewan McGregor embodied the (in)famous designer perfectly and got an Emmy nomination for it.
Just another great thing to happen this year to McGregor as he and his FARGO and BIRDS OF PREY partner Mary Elizabeth Winstead welcomed their first child, son Laurie.
Laurie with three of his four sisters: Clara, Esther and Jamyan.
-This was a very good year for first season shows as evident by the nomination of Apple+’s TED LASSO whose 20 nominations broke GLEE’s first season record for nods.
As Interpol sang, “there’s no ‘I’ in threesome”, there’s also no ‘I’ in team as the nominations just wasn’t for series creator and lead Jason Sudeikis but Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, Brett Goldstein and the Diamond Dogs: Nick Mohammed, Jeremy Swift and Brendan Hunt.
Juno has said that she would like to walk the red carpet with Hannah. Hopefully they can recreate Hannah’s Golden Globe winning night.
Phil Dunster (Jamie Tartt do-do-do-do) reacts.
As does Toheeb Jimoh (Sam Obisanya)
- Like TED LASSO, Hulu’s THE HANDMAID’S TALE had many nominations across the cast with Elisabeth Moss, Yvonne Strahovski, Samira Wiley, Madeline Brewer, Max Minghella, Ann O’Dowd, Alexis Bleidel, Bradley Whitford and newcomer to the show McKenna Grace all receiving nominations. The glaring omission? Joseph Fiennes who gave a gloriously sinister performance this season.
As for snubs, I (try) not to go with my heart and classify omissions from shows/actors I love as a snub (though IT’S A SIN, THE GOOD LORD BIRD and its cast was robbed), I go by who was being pushed during The Hollywood Reporter’s roundtables. In that vein: John Boyega and the entire SMALL AXE crew were snubbed, after being nominated and winning various awards; Chris Rock for FARGO, which only managed to get technical nominations despite winning performances by Jesse Buckley, Jason Schwartzman and Ben Whishaw.
No nomination for Lena Waithe on her season of MASTER OF NONE. She has previously shared a writing Emmy for that show. Also locked out was Sarah Paulson for Netflix’s RATCHET.
Though Paulson’s costar Sophie Okonedo garnered a nomination.
While not honored this year, Paulson saluted her friend and AMERICAN HORROR STORY costar Evan Peters on his first Emmy nomination for his supporting role in MARE OF EASTTOWN.
While various awards bodies are always throwing nominations Nicole Kidman’s way, including the Emmys, she missed out on a nomination this year for THE UNDOING. However her costar Hugh Grant received one.
While not snubbed in nominations, many feel that HBO snubbed LOVECRAFT COUNTRY with cancelling it after one season - a season that has garnered 18 nominations.
The show has received technical nominations, as well as acting for stars Courtney B. Vance, Michael K. Williams, Aunjanue Ellis, Jurnee Smollett and Jonathan Majors.
