fated || snily au
If there was anything that the Lady Lily Potter currently both desired and detested in equal measure, it was the buzz of the household. It was not being alone, whilst also not particularly enjoying having to entertain. She loved their visitors, on occasion, even if she had to put on a rather too pleasant facade to greet them.
Her marriage was restrictive. She hadn’t quite expected to feel as if she were dragging round an invisible ball and chain when she’d exchanged her vows with James Potter. Yet, that was exactly how it felt. She had to bow to his every want and whim.
She had not long since been allowed to have her own handmaid. She had insisted on having something more than one of his childhood servants waiting on her, when they had other things to be doing. James had been reluctant to let anyone into his home. However she had compromised with Sev. A childhood friend. He still wasn’t best pleased with her having a confidante of sorts, but it was exactly what she had needed in the midst of this marriage. She had so desperately needed a friend within this household, that had not yet become her home.
“Why would I not be pleased for you, Doe?”
Although, it was becoming quite tiring, quite sickening even. She feigned a smile, even if she was wondering if Doe truly had nothing better to do with her time than carry children...
“You are yet to fall pregnant. I feel as if I am stealing your thunder.”
Lily scoffed, unable to help herself, “You stole my thunder a long time ago, Doe. You married my father, remember? I was once the apple of his eye. And anyway, I would rather not fall pregnant, quite frankly. You have met my husband, have you not?”
“Would it not get him off of your back if he is quite as tiresome as you claim? Would it not give you a little peace?”
She smirked, shaking her head, “Child or no child, James would still act as he does. Childish, impetulant, as if the world owes him everything.” She stood from the bench, smoothing out imaginary creases in her dress before then looking back down at her friend. “... Rue. I con it a little potion and take it in my tea whenever we’ve laid together. It has worked thus far.” She shrugged, “Not that I should be admitting any of that to you.”
“And what on earth would I do with this information?”
“Tell my father that I am refusing to give my husband an heir.”
Doe rolled her eyes, before reaching out her hand, Lily helped her up. “It will happen when you are ready for it to happen, no herb would stop a pregnancy that is meant to be. Now, if you may, please escort me out to my carriage. I need to get home and put my feet up. You, however, need to ready yourself for the banquet.”
She sighed, “Oh the joys of running a household. I have not stopped in days. It is as if he expects me to pluck these elaborate events out of my arse whilst he’s out whoring somewhere or gambling, or hunting.” She muttered, squeezing Doe’s arm as they walked down the path. It was safe to say that relations between them had been strained over the last couple of years. They were on far better terms now than they had been since she’d married into her family. “Anyway, I shall stop using such vulgar langauge so as not to harm those delicate ears of yours.” They both giggled and walked back through the courtyard together.
“Will Marlene be attending tonight?”
“Of course. Both her and Sir Black.” She then shook her head, “I cannot lie, I will admit to being somewhat jealous of their match. They actually get along with one another. He doesn’t treat her...”
“Lily, stop this, right now. Lord James does not mistreat you. Do you not remember his pursual of you? It was nothing short of romantic. You need to stop speaking out against your husband. He is a very powerful man, you married into a family that doesn’t abide for accustations such as the one that you keep making rather too loudly. If he hears you talking like this...”
Lily then tensed up, and should have known better really. “Of course, I am being dramatic. I am merely imagining the way that my husband treats me behind closed doors. Go home, Doe. Go home to my father and your happy little family.” She pulled her arm away from the brunette, glaring at her before storming away. She knew that it was particularly childish of her to do so, but she couldn’t help herself.
//
“I feel as if this corset is rather too tight.”
Lily groaned loudly, exhaling a deep breath, trying to avoid panicking. She always found herself in this state prior to an event. She had married into a very well known, prestigious family. She had known the expectations of her future having done so. She hadn’t expected to find it all quite so overwhelming, it hadn’t felt this way as a child whilst attending events. She had rather thought that she’d enjoy holding parties and living this entirely lavish lifestyle. Yet, it was constricting, and exhausted her. Her husband was a little older, and more experienced, and knew a lot of people. She wanted to impress, but it was difficult.
“Do I look alright? Are you certain?”
She turned, meeting the gaze of Sev. It was such an intense comfort. To have her there was almost incomparable. She had needed someone. Her marriage was suffocating, to say the very least. It felt as if she was nothing but his property. Yet, even in this prison, she had someone. She had a friend.
They had met as little girls; obviously they were from very different worlds, within a small distance of one another. They had played together and their childhoods were very much intertwined. And then, she had grown a little older, and playing out with her friends had been nothing but frowned upon. That hadn’t stopped their friendship though, not at all. Even when she’d had needlework to learn, etiquette lessons to attend. She’d even started to learn to play the lute, but that had been disastrous and had ended in her purposefully breaking said lute as not to continue. However, she could sing. She could sing beautifully.
She had been singing quietly one day whilst wandering out in the grounds of the neighbouring estate when she’d seen Sev, alongside the Narcissa Black; a girl that she had never quite been friends with. Or rather... She hadn’t been seen by them, or at least, she didn’t think so. To this day, she hadn’t ever really had any reason to dwell upon it. It wasn’t something that she’d ever have brought up with Sev. They’d then spent many a late summer afternoon laying in the grass, gossiping, discussing her impending marriage. And then everything had… stopped. It had been around the time of her mother’s death. She had become very closed off for a while, everything had become somewhat of a blur. Before, in a rather strange turn of events, she had found herself looking for a handmaid at the same time as Narcissa. She had been quite surprised when Sev had chosen her.
“Help me loosen it a little, please.”
She turned away from Sev, pulling her hair out of the way to expose the lace of the corset. “He insists on the gold. I am not entirely sure that it suits me.” She remarked with a small smirk, “I do believe that it would suit you though. Please, attend. Don’t hide away. You know that I have no problem with you joining us all.” She turned to face Sev, eyeing her expectantly, before taking hold of her hands. “Please. For me.”

Press/Gallery: Elizabeth Instagrams avocado toast in social-media satire 'Ingrid Goes West'
USA TODAY — If you need an Instagram-worthy brunch snap, probably don’t pass your smartphone to Martha Stewart.
“She’s the worst food photographer in the whole world — she makes Jean-Georges food look like dog food,” jokes Elizabeth Olsen, who admits her own nosh photos are similarly unappetizing. “My life revolves around prepping dinner for my family or friends, and making my breakfast look nice, but (my pictures) always look bad. It’s like Martha.”
Fortunately, Olsen’s foray into food photography was only to research her role as an enviable Instagram “influencer” in dark comedy Ingrid Goes West (in theaters Friday in New York and Los Angeles, expands nationwide Aug. 25), one of two films she stars in this month, the other being Taylor Sheridan’s chilly murder mystery Wind River (now showing in New York and Los Angeles; expands to 17 cities Friday, including San Francisco, Atlanta, Chicago and Philadelphia).
In the latter, Olsen, 28, co-stars with her Avengers castmate Jeremy Renner as Jane Banner, a rookie FBI agent assigned to investigate the rape and death of a young Native American woman on Wyoming’s Wind River Indian Reservation.
Signing on,she hoped to shed light on female sexual assault, particularly in the Native American community, where missing women often go unreported. The actress also wanted “to play someone with the confidence and fortitude of Jane,” Olsen says. “She’s not jaded yet and emotionally invests in trying to find out what happened.”
The Olsen twins’ younger sister was timorous about a winter shoot in the Utah wilderness, but wound up having “the best time,” she says, learning to snowmobile and training in both martial arts and gun work.
The frosty conditions only sweetened her return to Los Angeles a few months later, when she slipped into the boho-chic garb of Ingrid’s Taylor Sloane, who becomes the social-media obsession and narcissistic BFF of Aubrey Plaza’s stalkerish title character.
“I have been looking for comedies my whole career,” Olsen says. “I don’t think anyone thinks of me for a comedy,” given her resumé of monster movies (Godzilla) and low-budget dramas (Martha Marcy May Marlene).
“Lizzie’s incredibly talented, but also when you look at her, she seems perfect in a weird way,” says Ingrid director/co-writer Matt Spicer. “We didn’t have a lot of time to set up (the idea of) ‘Why does Ingrid become obsessed with this person?’ We needed the audience to just look at her and get it.”
Unlike the avocado toast-snapping Taylor, Olsen’s social-media presence is tenuous. She uses her Instagram account primarily to promote projects, although she occasionally shares self-aware snaps, like paparazzi shots of her eating (hashtagged #feedmefridays).
“If people don’t understand your personality because you’re nervous in interviews or you come across weird on camera, (Instagram is) your way of showcasing your sense of humor,” Olsen says.
She heads to Atlanta this fall to shoot the still-untitled sequel to Avengers: Infinity War, returning as Scarlet Witch in the next installment of the superhero franchise. She’s developing two TV projects (one of which she describes as a “dark animated comedy with a female” with Community’s Dan Harmon and Love’s Lesley Arfin).
She would eventually like to move to the countryside in Northern California, but is now “just leaning in to being domestic.” She cooks and uses her downtime to catch up on her favorite shows, recently binge-watching The Handmaid’s Tale.
Her boyfriend, musician Robbie Arnett, “has to go away for a bit, so that’s my time to watch Game of Thrones.”

I have a cold, so I drank a lot of tea and ate pho and watched all of The OA today and it was so good and I keep thinking about it and feeling all fluttery with thoughts. It’s a little like The Handmaid’s Tale and it’s like A Little Princess and it’s like Wolf in White Van and it’s like Martha Marcy May Marlene and it’s like Room and it’s like On Such a Full Sea, which was the best book I read last year. And it’s also like none of these.

Most Anticipated TV Shows of 2019
New year, new me? More like new year, tons of new television to watch while procrastinating and ignoring the outside world. From such as Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and Charmed that brought us plenty of witchy escapades to the premiere of favorites including Legacies and She-Ra, 2018 brought a slew of new shows and reboots we couldn’t wait to binge-watch. In fact, the shows this past year were so good it might be a challenge to top them.
And yet with Pretty Little Liars spin-off The Perfectionists, Shrill, and a few Netflix originals set to debut, 2019 is looking like it’s going to be an even better year for curling up in front of the TV and becoming a bit too invested in new worlds and characters. We’ve already canceled all our plans and popped our popcorn, that’s how excited we are about watching these 2019 shows.
The Perfectionists
When Pretty Little Liars ended in 2017 it felt like nothing would ever be the same again — until Freeform announced their PLL spin-off series, The Perfectionists. Created by I. Marlene King, The Perfectionists will mark the return of both Mona Vanderwaal (played by Janel Parrish) and Alison DiLaurentis (Sasha Pieterse). It'll be set in the Pacific Northwest and in typical PLL style, will feature a murder mystery, and introduce a number of new characters, including Sofia Carson's Ava and Sydney Park's Caitlin. The show is rumored to be able to answer some unanswered questions from the PLL finale and bring loyal PLL fans a new show to obsess over.
Carmen Sandiego
You’re never too old to get excited about the premiere of an animated television series, especially when said TV series is a reboot of a classic '90s show. Set to premiere January 18 on Netflix, the newest version of Carmen Sandiego will include 20 episodes with Gina Rodriguez voicing the elusive woman in an iconic red hat. The show will follow Carmen Sandiego on new adventures and delve into how the woman in red became an international thief using her skills for good.
Looking for Alaska
Hulu is about to bring the John Green novel Looking for Alaska to life with an eight-episode live-action mini-series. The show will follow the life of Miles Halter (played by Charlie Plummer) as he arrives at a new boarding school. There he'll meet the mysterious and unpredictable Alaska Young (Kristine Froseth) who will change his life forever. Whether or not the mini-series will stick strictly to the book’s plot is yet to be seen, but the show is set to be a must-watch for beloved fans of the book and those that have yet to read it.
The Umbrella Academy
Christos Kalohoridis/Netflix
The live-action television adaptation of Gerard Way’s graphic novel series The Umbrella Academy is nearly upon us. Set to premiere on Netflix on February 15, The Umbrella Academy will follow a group of misfit superheroes as they band together to solve their adoptive father’s death and prevent an impending apocalypse from destroying the world. The star-studded cast includes Aidan Gallagher, Cameron Britton, Ellen Page, and Tom Hopper among many other recognizable faces.
Deadly Class
Lara Jean Covey, is that you? Nope. But, it is Lana Condor playing a deadly assassin in Syfy’s upcoming series Deadly Class. Set to debut on January 16, Deadly Class will follow Marcus Lopez (played by Benjamin Wadsworth) as he becomes acquainted with the world of assassins at his new home, King's Dominion. Based on the Rick Remender comic books, Deadly Class is an '80s-throwback that will bring together counterculture, fight scenes, and high school dynamics under one roof. The pilot is already available to stream.
Shrill
Aidy Bryant is giving us six reasons to get excited about 2019 and they all have to do with her 6-episode series Shrill. Set to premiere March 15 on Hulu, Shrill is a comedy based on the memoir Shrill: Notes From a Loud Woman by Lindy West. The show will follow Annie (played by Aidy) as she attempts to change her life, not her body, and slowly finds the confidence to love and believe in herself. Executive produced by Saturday Night Live producer Lorne Michaels and Pitch Perfect’s Elizabeth Banks, Shrill is set to be the body positive TV series we all needed in our lives.
Euphoria
HBO is also jumping into the young adult drama game. Executive produced by Drake, the show will follow a group of high school students as they navigate love and friendships in today's world of social media. And the series boasts an all-star cast: Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney (Handmaid’s Tale), Maude Apatow (Girls), Jacob Elordi (Kissing Booth), Algee Smith (The Hate U Give), Storm Reid (A Wrinkle in Time) Alexa Demi (Mid90’s), Barbie Ferreira, and Hunter Schafer.
Sex Education
Let’s be honest, there are never enough coming-of-age comedy series on television and Netflix knows it. This U.K. series from Netflix will follow Otis Thompson, a teenager who is a virgin whose mother (played by Gillian Anderson) happens to be a sex therapist. According to Variety, when Otis’s classmates find out his mother’s occupation, they persuade him and Maeve (played by Emma Mackey) to start their own underground therapy clinic. What could go wrong?
Roswell, New Mexico
We've seen plenty of great stuff from The CW this past year. After debuting the teen vampire series Legacies, rebooting Charmed, and breathing life into another season of Riverdale in 2018, fans can expect even more drama from the network in 2019 — starting with the reboot of cult classic Roswell. Set to air in January, Roswell, New Mexico is reimagining the infamous town known for its alien encounters. The show itself will focus on a relationship between Rosewell resident Liz Ortecho (Jeanine Mason) and extraterrestrial Max (Nathan Parsons) — and he might not be the only alien living among humans in this town. This version of Roswell will see the characters a bit more grown up than their high school portrayals in the original, with the first episode of the reboot including a 10-year high school reunion.
Watchmen
It looks like 2019 is going to be a big year for comics-turn television series. Watchmen, as many fans already know, was a major motion picture in 2009 that is now being re-adapted for TV. Set for a 10-episode run on HBO, the Watchmen series will reportedly be “set in an alternate history where 'superheroes' are treated as outlaws,” The Verge reported. The cast will include major stars such as Jeremy Irons (Justice League), Regina King (If Beale Street Could Talk), and Adelaide Clemens (*The Great Gatsby), among many others.
