Good news folks! I'm currently working on the toa of stone, AND I have some descriptions to give for both of these guys now (suggest names in the comments :3 ).

So first up the Fire Toa: So first of all yes he bares a striking resemblance to Toa Jalar, no that's not him. Second, due to the basic level of organic material that exists throughout all the Bionicle beings, that right arm is special because it's entirely mechanical. No organic material in it AT ALL. This is due to a freak accident with him pushing his own fire element powers WAY too far to levels that even Toa Mata Tahu never dared reach (though obviously Tahu could reach it if he needed to [aka protagonist privilege]). He actually has a rather cold and calculating demeaner that would normally suggest he's very serious, when in fact he's almost as light hearted as Lewa. He knows when to get serious and when to relax and just let what will be be. This level headedness is strangely rare amongst fire Toa, but he's also rather lax most of the time as he often needs the panic-induced toa of Ice (still in development) to basically annoy him into doing something about a current problem. In the end though he does enjoy combat against strong foes and is constantly pushing his limits and is quite often burned out by the end of a fight. All or nothing kind of fighter. His kit features the Mask of Pausing (name wip) that allows him to literally stop everything around him for exactly 30 seconds. He can also focus this power to pause one specific object or individual for 15 seconds. It takes a lot of concentration, or in some cases, desperation, to activate it so he's not prone to use it much. He's also got his replacement arm that sports it's own ventilation system so he never burns himself out again, and the gear system in his hand allows him to hold onto anything, and never let go. His Golden Sword of Fire is powered by a stone containing a blue flame that allows him to wield the sword even when exerting an extreme amount of power.

My inspiration: For this whole line I wanted to pick an entirely separate inspiration for each toa, and this guys inspiration was basically "Shonen Manga Protagonists". Meanwhile the inspiration for the Air Toa was "Heavy Jets".

The Air Toa for the most part is basically Sheldon from Big Bang, but if he knew how to fight. Very smart, very capable, high IQ over all, and of course a Common Sense Handicap. "Logic over Luck" is his moto, and by the Great Spirit he lives up to it. He's in fact the one that built the Fire Toa's replacement arm, and he's rather proud of it. He'll often wince when he sees the Fire Toa go a little to hard on his replacement arm, and is always looking for ways to upgrade it with better enhancements every time he has to fix it. His powers of wind have aided his testing of his own armor to limits unseen by other Air Toa, and as such despite his immense weight he can reach speeds that would put even the fastest Kakama user to shame.

His kit includes the Mask of Mechanisms, which allows him to understand how to use any mechanical object simply by looking at it. This is incredibly useful to him as he likes to tinker from time to time, leading to him being the brains of the team. Despite being a Wind Toa, he's no gust of wind to ignore as his armor is EXTREMELY HEAVY! So heavy that he NEEDS that rocket engine on his back just to get off the ground. His flight is slow at first but it builds up speed fast and eventually gets powerful enough to break at least Mach 9, pushing on ten. This of course would make him hard to steer and slow down normally, but that's where his wind powers impress along with his shield (which he built himself of course). Placing his shield in front of him at top speed and utilizing his wind powers, he creates a massive sonic boom in front of him that stops his speed entirely, and obliterates pretty much anything in front of him, something that took several attempts to perfect and many broken armor pieces including his old mask. His weapon of choice is an energized Axe with a hilt guard and a flail attached. The flail is usually there for show, but if pressed he can use it along with more wind power to turn it into a deadly accurate weapon.

He was once asked why he didn't use a weapon that fired bullets or something, and he only responded by shooting a nearby boulder with his shield and retorting "Who says I'm not?" So not only is he common sense impaired, he's sarcastic. Something that never ceases to annoy the toa of Earth (also in progress)

In response to your kind words and wonderful support on my most recent creation, I have decide that it's time I come back to the building community!

So far I've not finished my current project, but my intentions towards my future builds and my desires for this particular series will be shown off in due time. I've always excelled at Toa builds of various sizes, but even now I've out-done my prior works with my two latest creations: A Toa of Fire, and a Toa of Wind.

Details on each to be revealed soon, but for now I will rest because even these two took DAYS to completely get correct according to my vision.

And even now my brain is spiraling out of control with creative energy.

Everything that was always described for him, by John, in war, bullet wounds and scars and bleeding gashes is right there, in his gaze and he blinks and he blinks. He blinks and he nearly laughs at nothing but the world around him. In theory, he knew and understood how every color looked like. He studied the concept like he’d study an enemy, and there it was, blue and green and yellow and pink. The outline of the person who just crossed the street. Colors, colors, colors. Terry maintains himself prim but he panics, unsure if he should just stare, unblinking, at the sky or look for that person, that just got strutted down the sidewalk.

He doesn’t think; he gets in control of himself.

He turns the steering wheel as sharply as he can.

Speeding down the road after them.

Okay, so life has gotten STUPID stressful of late, and these days I have basically no time to indulge happy daydreams AT ALL.

Thus: screw pacing, I'm just gonna toss up this mostly-completed 11th part of the unedited v!Wind fic and then blow through the rest of this fic sometime in the next few weeks, bc I’m not adding any more content to what I’ve already got (or at least not anytime soon).

So yeah, @w1lmutt, expect a larger and more chaotic worddump than usual eventually! (I figure I can worry about proper scenes and editing nonsense if/when I ever move these words over to AO3 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ )

They drag the big doors open.

The inside of the cave is poorly lit and offers little in the way of room to stand; a pathway of those monster-built walkways follows the wall around to the back of the cove, but otherwise the space is all open water with an impressive ship bobbing at the center.

Tetra lets out a grunt of approval when she sees it, though she scowls at the massive cage that's been built on its deck. It’s a crude thing, large and runed with ominous symbols meant to contain the imprisoned, but otherwise the ship itself seems surprisingly understated and not-evil for the primary vessel of someone who’d conquered as much of the sea as Phantom had boasted.

At first, things seem fine. Quiet. The ship is untouched, all gangplanks pulled up and cannons pointed out but otherwise unharmed.

Then one of the pirates peeks their head over the railing and spots them.

"Boss! Swabbie! Is that you?" Niko yells, and there's blood all down his side. "Look out! Monsters afoot!"

"Niko!" Tetra calls in alarm, and the pirates who are able to scramble to lay out a plank for them to board. Phantom doesn't bother waiting, yanking his mask on and clearing the side of the ship in a single bound.

"Who did this," he begins, voice distorted by magic and fury.

Then the monsters attack, dropping from the ceiling and rising out of the sea. Every one of them bleeds black.

The heroes fight, of course. The crew has taken a beating, and the gathered Links do their best to defend the exhausted sailors—Phantom most fervently of them all.

It's hard battle. What footing there is is unstable, and their enemies many. Most of them are not suited to aquatic battles, and the waters of the cave are treacherous. They take injuries, all of them.

But when he's standing between their injured and their enemies, when his eyes are clear and sharp and his strikes deadly precise—for the first time, the gathered Links can see the look of a hero about their youngest.

Of course, he proceeds to thoroughly ruin that impression by the time the battle draws to a close.

The monster he's chosen is not a type of creature he recognizes—green, reptilian, fast in the water. Phantom's cut it's legs out from under it, quite literally, and so it writhes on it's elbows and stomach across the wooden deck as it tries to escape him. Outside of their little corner of the ship, the last of its comrades fall to the blades of the traveling heroes.

"Who sent you?" Phantom demands. When he doesn't get a response he likes, he drags his blade through the side of it's belly, long and nonfatal. It squeals in agony.

"You're going to die here," he observes, soft. He stomps on the wound, heedless of the dark blood splashing his sandals. "But it's going to take time. Quite some time, if you so choose. Answer me: who is your master?"

The creature gibbers. Phantom tilts his head, somehow divining meaning from the nonsensical noises of terror.

"A shadow?" he murmurs. "What-?"

Someone steps in. “What are you doing?!”

And it's only because it’s Hyrule—Hyrule who tried to help, Hyrule who’s lightning magic Phantom can still feel painful echoes of in his bones—that Phantom stays his blade. “Get out of my way,” he growls, which is better than the stabbing any of these other interlopers would’ve gotten.

A hand lands on his shoulder. Phantom's sword swings around, action to reaction with no pause for thought in between. The edge stops a hair's breadth away from Tetra's scowl.

"That's enough," she says, and shoots the lizalfos in the head.

Phantom scowls at the dead body, then at her. "I was not finished," he growls.

Tetra yanks on his ear.

"Ow! Hey!" He flails. "Leggo leggo!"

"We have more important things to worry about!" She yells, dragging him around to look at the sorry state of her crew. "Genzo needs a splint! Niko needs stitches and more bandages than we have! Everyone is beat to shit! And only one of us can fly, idiot!"

She lets go of his ear to shove him forward. Phantom stops. He looks.

"Oh," he utters, and he notices for the first time that he has blood dripping down his shield arm. He shakes his head, once, like a dog, and clutches at the wound. He feels very cold. "...Oh."

As though it had merely been waiting for his permission, the lizal corpse finally explodes into dark smoke.

"Right," he breathes. "Right."

"What were those," Phantom demands.

The pirates have been left in the care of the brothers who'd first opened their dojo to the traveling heroes, recuperating from their various injuries. Fortunately, none of the damage seems permanent. A few fairies, some liberally applied first aid, and all the crew should be at least back on their feet within the week.

This, however, has left the group of heroes with nowhere to stay, which led to Phantom reluctantly opening his own home to them. They're packed in there now, sprawled about both floors and generally tending to themselves with experienced hands.

"What do you think?" Legend replies snippily. Phantom scowls at them all, pacing back and forth restlessly in the tight space by the front door.

His glare lands on Four, helping Twilight wrap his wrist—on Wild getting scolded while Legend rests his ice rod on the Champion's ankle—on Hyrule tutting over Sky while Warriors dramatically bemoans his black eye—

He takes in the group's injuries with a dissatisfaction that very, very poorly covers his unease.

"You're not weak," the boy asserts. Time wonders who he's trying to convince. "You wouldn't have beaten me if you were weak. Why was this battle so difficult?"

"You didn't get off lightly yourself," Time points out, nodding to the thick mess of gauze on the boy's arm. At a guess, the boy had tried to block a blow with his shield and forgotten he wasn't wearing one. Fortunate that there's a fairy fountain on the island, or Phantom might've lost strength in that limb.

Phantom waves him off. "I was handicapped," he dismisses, not denying that he wasn't fighting at his best. Time frowns at the excuse. "I'll figure something out to compensate for it, and this won't happen again."

He gets a lot of dubious looks at that; none of them have forgotten that what he's trying to 'compensate for' is the loss of that parasite. Time's almost dreading what the boy might scrounge up to replace that.

Phantom turns away from them sulkily, unable to defend himself and unwilling to look all that suspicion in the face.

"To answer your question," Four starts, with the air of someone steering the conversation back to safer waters, "that's just the kind of journey we're on."

Sky swings his previously-dislocated shoulder in a testing motion that immediately gets him a cease-and-desist look from Hyrule, before he adds, "Those were pretty standard for black-blooded monsters, I'd say."

Twilight, catching the look on Phantom's face, rolls his eyes. "Did you think something the goddess summoned eight heroes to fight would be easy?"

Phantom scoffs, arms crossed. "It took eight of you to fight me," he grumbles, and there's the arrogant little brat they'd met at the start of this. Hopefully that means the kid's feeling better, if he's up to sassing them like that again.

Time rather doubts that—Phantom IS a Link, after all—and so the one-eyed hero makes a mental note to follow up on that later.

RANT AHEAD sorry guys I'm on mobile so I can't do a read more. Just scroll by it shouldn't be that long.

Might be time for me to find a new d&d group 🙃 cause this is just not what I'm interested in nor what I'm looking for out of the game. Our DM is way too lenient in ways I don't think he should be. Our group is evenly split, with three of us who regulate ourselves pretty well and three who like to push boundaries and ask for the world. And since our DM is so lenient, those people who push and ask tend to get what they want while those of us who regulate ourselves and actually follow the rules are left kind of handicapped as a result.

Not to mention, those three who push seem to think of the campaign as their own personal show, like it's a single player RPG where they're the super special hero sent to save the world instead of a cooperative group game. They constantly want to do everything themselves, even when other players are much better suited to the task. They constantly talk over people, even when it's not their turn, and try to retcon things in ways to give themselves advantages. The new player I've mentioned previously is needlessly antagonistic to the point where I literally pointed my weapon at him last session cause we were being attacked by giants and I pulled the lever to lower us away from them and he pulled it back... For no reason. Only to then proceed to flip it again and dramatically jump onto the lowering platform after I pointed my bow at him, again making the scene about himself. In that same combat encounter, I used three of my turns in initiative to help the party while those same three players were busy showboating and looting instead of doing anything productive.

One of those three has decided he's going to go on a power trip/struggle with one of the players who actually regulates himself, who is, in canon, the leader of our group and our employer. Since the regulated player, ya know, regulates himself, the shitty player is just constantly talking over him and challenging him. Everytime the DM asks for something from the regulated player, the shitty player chimes in and answers instead. We're on a sea voyage and he's the only one of us who can steer the ship, essentially, since he has a sailor background, but he put absolutely no money into purchasing the ship and has still decided to try and declare himself as leader of the group while we're on it. This is not the first time nor the first character where this has been a problem with this particular player.

I chose proficiency with navigator's tools specifically because the DM said it would be an island setting and I have a merchant background and figured being on merchant ships made sense for my background and it'd also be useful in the future, but the shitty player has decided that since he's steering he's going to make all the checks and my proficiency has been used absolutely zero times and yeah I'm a bit salty about it. I don't want to be the main focus but I thought the one thing I could do that nobody else could would at least have me contribute a bit but nope! It's just been glossed over and now shitty player can apparently navigate on his own despite having absolutely no tools or skills to aid him in that.

We were all allowed to start the campaign with one magic item and the new player chose a belt of giant strength, which is fine, but the DM then allowed him to remake his whole character around that, essentially making strength his dump stat since he'd have the belt to compensate, meaning the rest of his stats are way higher than the rest of us and it's incredibly unbalanced and, at risk of sounding like a toddler throwing a fit, unfair.

The last shitty player has big ties into the main storyline so he and the DM do secret sessions occasionally about what he's doing off screen which gives him access to like way more loot than the rest of us. He's also a pact of the chain warlock and he uses his little imp to help him in everything pretty much, granting him almost perpetual advantage on every check he makes, and the DM doesn't really regulate it.

All three of these players also regularly declare what checks they're going to make instead of asking or just saying what they're going to do. "I'm going to make a religion check to see if I recognize this" despite not knowing if the thing even has religious connotations, they just have a high religion score and wanna use it. "I'm gonna make an insight check to see if I recognize this from my past" that's not really what insight is for? And even if it is, that's the DM's decision to make ???? You don't get to just decide what checks you're making otherwise what's the point in playing with a group, just run a module by yourself.

Not to mention I think there's just honestly too many people at the table. And since those three are so obviously outspoken, the other three of us kind of get ignored and skipped over. Hell, we're literally on a quest that's a tie in to my backstory and I spoke maybe three or four times last night outside of combat initiative because the other three just kept dominating the campaign and I'm sorry but when you get too many people playing at once, this happens. Initiatives take way too long to get through, and those three wanna push the boundaries with every turn so their turns are extended by them asking to do like eight different things they shouldn't be allowed to do. (My boyfriend literally pointed out he had time to cook a can of raviolis AND eat it all during one of these players single initiative turn). And people inevitably get left out, especially when the group isn't actively trying to include everyone which, see my complaints above, they're not.

I'm just... Tired. Like the point of d&d is to have fun. If we're not all having fun, what's the fucking point? Even if it's in character to do something kinda shitty, if you know it's going to ruin the game for everyone you're playing with, maybe don't do that. Cause honestly, above all else, THAT'S THE FUCKING POINT OF THE GAME. To have fun with your friends. And I'm just not having fun anymore. It feels like a chore and I just don't have the energy.

My boyfriend is gonna try talking to the DM cause he feels the same way and they've been friends since like elementary school, but I'm not gonna hold my breath. These problems have been brought up before and they're only half addressed, then not really reinforced so they're allowed to emerge again. And I just gotta be honest, I'd almost rather find another group to play with or even not play for a while than continue to force myself to play a game that only frustrates and disappoints me. If this is the campaign they want, that's fine! I can't really judge! But it's not what I want and if it's gonna continue this way it might just be time for me to leave the table.

“Lost my virginity there. Had a lot of adventures. Mm, turned eighteen in 1979, which was a truly delightful time to be young and beautiful at the Pines.” He laughs wistfully, and even Geralt huffs a short laugh despite himself, taken by the young man’s easy charm.

“Is this story going to be long?” he asks drily, covering up the smile with a dubious look.

Jaskier chuckles in response, a little sadly, and shrugs. “Not too long, I hope. I’m trying to answer your question the best way that I know how.” Falling silent for a long moment, he chews his lower lip. Geralt turns his head slightly, watching him out of the corner of his eye.

“It ah… It was two years after that when AIDS was first identified. 1981. I was twenty years old, and fucking was my life.” The grin Jaskier flashes this time is bitter, and Geralt frowns.

“At least it was, until my friends started dying. Elders. Loved ones. No one knew at first what was causing it…” he heaves a heavy sigh. “Not at first. But ah, Fire Island was later identified as the epicenter of the outbreak on the East Coast. And by then, we were up to our ears in our beloved dead.” His lips tremble a little bit as he presses them together, memory darkening his face.

Chapter 5: Fire Island

At first, the car ride is silent. Jaskier had tried to turn on the radio earlier, but Geralt had fixed his hand with such a look when he reached for the knob that he found himself cautiously withdrawing it, afraid of losing the hand. He searches for things to say, but the man next to him seems so withdrawn right now that it almost feels like a violation to pry. The air conditioner hums quietly, churning to keep the air in the car cool enough to tolerate in the thick humid summer air.

As the little car rolls up to a stoplight about halfway to the hospital, Geralt finally speaks. “Why are you doing this?” He stares straight ahead as he asks this, scanning the street in front of them with a serious expression. His square jaw is tight, his eyes flicking back and forth across the landscape as if looking for threats.

Jaskier startles from a reverie, turning and cocking his head at Geralt. “Doing what?” he inquires.

Geralt cuts him a sideways glance, intelligent golden eyes fixing on him. “I’m a stranger. Why are you going so far out of your way for me?”

Jaskier’s eyebrows go up. “Ah,” he says. “That.” He licks his lips as that gaze burns into him, fixing him to the seat and leaving him feeling a little flustered. The light turns green, and he gently accelerates the car once more. He fidgets with the steering wheel as he gropes for words, searching for some way to explain to Geralt that won’t alarm him unduly. They drive for another few blocks, Geralt waiting with surprising patience for his answer. To be truthful, there were many reasons, but Jaskier ponders until he decides on the most important one. Eventually he says, “In order to answer that…Let me tell you about Fire Island.”

Geralt nods reluctantly, settling back into his seat. So this was going to be a story. He grimaces, glancing out the side window.

“Fire Island was where my family’s summer home was, when I was growing up. Spent every summer there, as far back as I can remember. And, it was home to the Pines, as well as a number of other gay communes, some short distance up the road from my family’s beach house. They were a very popular vacation spot for men from… oh, all over the world. Manhattan mostly, though. When I grew up, I left my parent’s summer home and began to visit the Pines.”

Falling silent, he considers the road signs before him before flicking on his turn signal, making a quick left. Then he resumes, teeth flashing as a quick grin lights his face. “Lost my virginity there. Had a lot of adventures. “And I ah… well. I came within a breath of dying myself, I’m nearly certain. It… ah. It frightened me very badly. I found myself surrounded by loved ones who the hospitals couldn’t take, wouldn’t treat, couldn’t help.” He presses his lips together again, harder this time, and swallows back a lump forming in his throat. “So I ah…” he trails off, then rallies, voice thick. “At first I stayed with them. I would go to their homes, make sure they had what they needed. Bathe them, after it had gotten so bad they couldn’t walk.”

Geralt’s jaw tightens as he listens, feeling obscurely guilty. He had heard of the epidemic overseas, had even been, in one particularly memorable briefing, re-educated on condom use. The disease was spoken of mostly in little asides around the bases, harsh jokes about the disease killing faggots. Never spoken on with any thought, or care, or respect. It had eaten at him, but only in a distant sort of way. Somehow the sheer scale of the loss hadn’t occurred to him until he heard the raw ache in Jaskier’s voice.

Jaskier takes a shaky breath, rolling his eyes back up in his head and blinking rapidly for a moment at a stop light. “Sorry love, I haven’t spoken about it in a while. Mm. Well, eventually, that became exhausting. I was a wreck, and I couldn’t sustain bouncing from house to house tending to my loved ones. So…” he rolls his shoulder uncomfortably, grimacing, “I used some family money to purchase the house I live in. I was ah… I was tired of watching queers slip through my fingers without any way to help them when they got kicked out of their homes for being unable to pay rent. Fuck, Geralt, they were dying! How were they supposed to afford housing?! So I ah… I brought them home to me. I retrofitted one of the bedrooms for handicap access, bathroom, everything.” He scrubs his hand over his face, rakes his hair out of his eyes, resumes driving again.

“And uh, that was my life for a while. Do you know what I used that attic for?” Looking tired, he glances at Geralt, who is staring out the front window of the car with a closed expression on his face.

“No,” Geralt rumbles, biting back a much ruder response. This display of obvious emotion is making him uncomfortable, and he is not sure what to do about it, but it strikes him that lashing out at his host might not be the best move right now.

“It was an escape, darling. An escape from all the death and sickness. Sometimes staying down in the house got to be too much, and I would come upstairs and lay down and try to get some sleep. Or a loved one’s partner might take refuge up there for a few hours while I sat downstairs with the one who was dying. And ah, even after… ah. After, when I had no more sick friends to shelter, sometimes I just wanted to make the world smaller. So I would take my instruments up there and enjoy the quiet of the space… it’s easier to compose when I’m not thinking about how I need to do the dishes, you know?” When he speaks about his music his face eases, lighting up just a little. “And now? Well. The thought of watching one more man suffer is unbearable. So I help. Where I can.” He finally turns back to Geralt, watching as the amber-eyed man turns to look at him, meeting his gaze for a brief moment before looking down thoughtfully at his hands in his lap.

Geralt is quiet for a moment, digesting the story carefully. Then he asks, voice harsher than he means it to be, “Are you sick?”

Jaskier frowns, about to take offense until he sees the look on Geralt’s face. It isn’t judging, or angry… If anything, the man looks lost. His frown softens, and slowly he shakes his head. “No, darling. No… I don’t know how, but no.” Licking his bottom lip nervously again, he pulls around the corner and into the hospital complex, beginning to hunt for a space. “I get tested every three months or so… started in 1982.” He blows out a breath and shakes his head, another quick bittersweet smile flitting about his face. “Always clean. It’s been thirteen years now. I thought someday the fear would…” he pauses, searching for words, shrugging uneasily. “That it would get better. But it never does. Even now when I’ve been in a bit of a dry spell, it never really leaves me.”

“Dry spell?” Geralt asks skeptically, seizing on what he hopes is a way to change the subject. Jaskier, to his surprise, laughs. The man laughs easily and often, even in sadness, and Geralt isn’t sure what to make of it.

“Yes, darling. Been a few months since I met anyone special… I’ve gotten busy, and, if I’m going to be perfectly honest, perhaps a bit too old to be sowing so many wild oats anymore.” He pulls into a parking space near the emergency department. “There. Now, would you prefer for me to wait out here, or shall I walk you in?”

Geralt regards Jaskier with a wooden face, concealing his profound discomfort. “You don’t have to stay. I can get a taxi after I’m done here, I don’t need you.”

Jaskier waves this off. “Nonsense, Geralt. I said I had the afternoon off and I meant it. I’ll be here when you come out, ok?” He stops, chewing his lip, a worried look flickering across his face as he sees Geralt’s face darken. “I mean… I’m sorry to press. I just.” Stopping again, he twists his hands around the leather of the steering wheel nervously. “I can go. If you don’t want me to stay.”

A long silence stretches out between them as Geralt rests his hand on the door handle, wrestling with the choice. He watches the lanky man out of the corner of his eye, feeling guilty, lonely, and confused as he tries to figure out what he wants. It’s not a question he’s had to ask himself all that often in his life, and it takes him a while to speak.

“No point in staying out here the whole time. Takes hours.” And with that, he abruptly gets out of the car with his pack and slams the door behind him, striding away towards the emergency department. Jaskier watches him go, mouth gaping in astonishment as Geralt’s long legs eat up the distance like it’s nothing. As the big man vanishes into the hospital, Jaskier startles into motion, scrambling free of the car to follow him.

In Introduction to BASIC - Part 1

I found some books and game cassette inlays in my parents’ attic (loft) a while back and I think I may try and scan them in. This is the first one I’m thinking of scanning in.

We had BBC Micros in school but we never did any real programming with only simple MODE 4 commands being shown us. This book then, was my first exposure to actually understanding programming.

I spent a lot of time playing games on my Commodore 16, but also in learning how FOR...NEXT loops work!

Here’s the first few paragraphs from the introduction page;

Introduction

Welcome to the programming course for the COMMODORE 16 and PLUS/4. Both these machines are superb for playing games and producing brilliant and exciting pictures and sounds on your TV set; but they are also complete modern computers in their own right.

Computers are extraordinarily versatile; more so, in fact, than anything except a human. Your computer for instance, can be switched to be a teaching machine, a calculator, an aid to the handicapped, a word processor, a machine for financial records and stock control, a monitor for a patient in an intensive care unit, a controller for an industrial process, or a scientific computer used by engineers to design buildings, power stations and aircraft.

Computers and the systems they control are steadily entering into our everyday lives. Already many devices such as traffic lights, cash registers, and banking terminals have computers behind the scenes. This trend will continue for most of our lifetimes. The world is passing through a computer revolution, which will be as profound in its effects as the Industrial Revolution was in its own time.

The Computer Revolution can't be stopped; but all of us can, if we like, have some influence on the way it goes. The world is becoming divided into two sorts of people — the passengers and the pilots. The passengers let it all just happen; they may enjoy using computer based products, or they may hate computers, or both. They often make their views known, but without any real effect —- they can't reach the controls, and wouldn't know how to use them if they could.

The pilots, on the other hand, are in control of the whole revolution, They invent new types of computers, and think up original and useful ways Of using them, The pilots have o heavy responsibility since it rests on them to steer the world towards peace, freedom and plenty, and away from the nightmare society often depicted in Science Fiction,

What sets apart a pilot from a passenger? Only one thing: understanding the way a computer works, Of course there are different levels of understanding. Most people understand how to use an arcade machine even though they couldn't explain the mechanism to you, (Yes --there is a computer inside.) The level I am thinking of is much deeper. It is so thorough and complete that you can make a computer do anything you want it to, in the way of teaching activities, industrial or medical applications, or even games to amuse you.

To have this power over your computer, to make it into a fast, accurate obedient and willing slave, you must be able to program the machine.

Programming is the key to becoming a pilot.

This course is all about programming. It relates to the 16 and PLUS/4, but once you have mastered programming for these machines you will find it simple to transfer to any other computer, large or small.

The more programming you do, the easier it becomes. Most people can learn how to program if they give themselves a fair chance, and so can you. You do not need to know much about mathematics, but you will find it useful to have a quiet place to read, think and use the computer, and it is best to give yourself plenty of time to complete the course. Don't rush!

The course is split into fifteen 'units'. Each unit will take you one or two solid evenings' work, on average. Most of the units include some reading, some practical work on the machine, some programming, and a 'self-test' questionnaire to measure how well you have understood the unit. Every unit contains some 'experiments' which you should tick off as you do them.

When the units ask you questions, they generally give you spaces to write your answers. Use them. Write with a soft pencil, and have a rubber handy, so that your answers can be rubbed out if you pass the computer course on to someone else. If your copy of the course already has the answers written in, go through it and erase them before you start studying.

Programming is a tight-knit subject in which ideas depend closely on each other. Topics you learn about in earlier units are mentioned and used in the later ones without any further explanation. For example, you won't be able to make head or tail of unit 10 unless you have read and understood all of units 1 to 9. This makes it important that you follow the units in the order they are given.

When you start work on a new unit, begin by reading quickly right through it from beginning to end, You won't get much of the detail, but you will form an idea of the kind of topics you are going to study.

I have such fond memories of this computer, and my Commodore 64 and my Amiga 500 Plus, I’m just so frustrated that I don’t have any of those computers any more.

Loki couldn’t help chuckling at the look on Morgan’s face, at the horror of being caught by Frigga kissing her son like that. But Frigga’s tone was amused, not upset. Loki kissed Morgan’s cheek. Morgan was still a million shades of red. Loki thought it was absolutely adorable.

Frigga didn’t comment on the activity she had interrupted. Instead, she checked on Morgan. “Much better, dear,” she said approvingly, as she placed a hand to Morgan’s forehead, checking for fever. “Sleep until lunch and after you eat something you should be able to rest in your own rooms until dinner,” she told Morgan, though the words were an update for Loki too.

Loki nodded. “You should listen to, Mother. You still have a lot of healing to do, darling,” he told Morgan. Morgan nodded and let Frigga take the empty glass from her hands and laid back down to go back to sleep. Loki kept her curled in his embrace. He didn’t mind, especially since she was fighting through the fever still. She needed his cold and he smiled warmly at her soft sight of relief as she settled back to sleep in his arms.

Frigga gave him a warm, knowing, smile. “She will be fine, darling. She is through the worst of it now,” she reassured him gently.

“I know. That does not mean I’m not still concerned for her,”

Frigga nodded. “I know, darling. Your lady will be fine,” she told him firmly “And after lunch you can leave the healing wing,”

Loki chuckled. “Which is a relief. I love spending time with you, Mother, but being in the healing wing can get boring after a while,”

Frigga laughed. “So I have heard from everyone I tend here. Your brother is the worst about it and seems to get injured the most often,” she said fondly, amused at her children’s antics. “I would have let her leave now, but I’d rather wait until that fever is better,”

“I know. I completely understand,” Loki didn’t like Morgan’s fever any better than Frigga did. At least Loki was the best suited to keep her fever down.

Morgan’s fever broke right before lunch as Frigga had predicted. It was clear the fever had broken when she started shivering in Loki’s arms. He immediately brought back the spell that minimized the effects of his cold skin. He climbed out of the bed, adding a warming spell to the blanket she was bundled in. She woke when he left the bed, sitting up and looking confused. Loki kissed her cheek. “Don’t worry. I’m still here, Ana,” he soothed. He knew she’d be disoriented blind in a strange environment. Morgan nodded and bundled the blankets around her.

Frigga ducked back into the room. “Fever finally broke? Excellent news indeed,” she told the pair. Morgan stopped shivering after a minute as her body adjusted. Frigga checked her over as the servants brought lunch for Morgan and Loki. The pair devoured their meals, starved from the experience of the transition.

Morgan was surprised at how much she devoured, but devour she did. She sat back against the pillows with a contented purr when her plate was empty. Until a slice of chocolate cake appeared in front of her. Loki lit up in absolute delight when a slice appeared in front of him as well. Frigga laughed at her predictable son and watched them both enjoy their cake.

After they had eaten, Frigga bundled Morgan up in a robe so she could leave the healing wing. Her nightgown had been drenched in sweat and Loki could see it cling to her as Frigga was bundling her. And his attention is drawn to the fact that Morgan had an extremely attractive body. He tried to clear those thoughts away quickly before they got him into trouble.

“There’s a hot bath waiting for you in Loki’s chambers and the maids will help you bathe. I know you feel better, but you need to rest,” Frigga told them both. Morgan nodded obediently, though Loki knew she had absolutely intentions of letting maids help her bathe, no matter how wonderful a hot bath sounded. Morgan was raised American and independent. She wouldn’t accept the help of maids unless she had to.

Loki kissed Frigga’s cheek and wrapped an arm around Morgan. “Thank you, Mother,” he told her warmly. Morgan thanked her too and the pair left to return to Loki’s chambers. Loki’s arm was around her shoulders and he steered her through the halls. Loki held Morgan close to him as they walked.

The maids were waiting for them when they arrived and Morgan moved closer to Loki’s side when the maids began to speak, informing Loki that the Allmother sent them to aid Lady Morgana. Loki chuckled at Morgan’s sudden shyness and sent her off with the maids with a reassuring kiss to the top of her head.

Morgan was delivered back to him, looking much more relaxed for the hot bath. Her hair had been left loose, curling down her back and she was wearing an Asgardian nightdress, which seemed designed to show off her body. Even after her time in the hospital and the healing wing, she was gorgeous. Loki had to shake those thoughts away again. They wouldn’t help and she would notice and possibly be upset if he got too excited or moved too quickly. He gulped, his eyes dilating as his desire rose, despite his efforts to keep a leash on it. “You look so beautiful, Ana,” he managed to tell her.

She gave him a warm smile and went to him, knowing where he was thanks to magic and his voice. “Thank you, Liam,” she said as she wrapped her arms around his waist. He bent to kiss her softly and she returned the kiss eagerly. They kissed deeply for a few long minutes until she finally broke it to catch her breath, breathing frost. She smiled up at him, her thumb caressing his cheek.

His smile was warm and affectionate. “How do you feel, darling?” he asked with real concern

“So much better,” she replied with a purr.

“I’m so glad, my darling,”

Morgan’s eyes widened as she remembered something and stepped back with a curse. She summoned her Jarvis-tech watch to fasten back over her wrist. “Sorry, I forgot your people don’t like tattoos…”

“I was meaning to ask. What is that tattoo?” he asked curiously

She smirked. “All of the original Avengers have it,” she explained and took off the tech again so he could see her wrist. She traced the design as she explained the components. “A for the Avengers, 6 for the original six, dad’s arc reactor, Cap’s shield, Clint’s arrow, Nat’s hourglass, Mjolnir, and a symbol meaning ‘toxic’ for Bruce,” she blushed she she continued. “I added the horns from your helmet to mine… there’d be no Avengers if it weren’t for you, even if it was against your will. And you’re on the team now anyway…” she trailed off, realizing that she was babbling

Loki smiled, touched that she had added his horns to the tattoo. “I appreciate that,”

She smiled in return and carefully fastened her watch back over the tattoo. “Thor mentioned that your people don’t like tattoos. Even though the oaf got it too,”

Loki shrugged. “Most Asgardians don’t. Some get them anyway,”

She nodded, but still smirked. “Still, I bet you haven’t seen the oaf’s,” she teased. “I believe his exact words were ‘I best never let mother see this’,” she said with a laugh.

Loki chuckled. “That doesn’t surprise me even a little bit,”

Morgan laughed too, knowing her trickster well. “How much are you going to make him bribe you not to tell your mother?”

Loki smirked maliciously. “I’ll figure something out,”

Her laughter continued “I knew you would,” she replied affectionately and stroked his cheek. He leaned into her touch, closing his eyes and relaxing into her affection. She smiled at how easy it was to make the attention and affection starved Loki happy. He practically melted into her touch.

“So what should we do with our day?” she asked him as she moved to stroking his hair.

He hmmed in pleasure. “I honestly have no idea,”

She giggled “It’s your realm, you must have some idea what’s fun to do around here,” she teased as she stopped petting him so he could think. Easily distracted Loki was easily distracted by pets.

He considered and pondered for a moment, wondering what she could possibly enjoy without sight. “How would you like to join me in the gardens?” he asked tentatively. She couldn’t see the flowers, but she would be able to smell them and perhaps enjoy them that way?

She grinned. “That sounds like fun,” she agreed, eager to experience anything of the realm that Loki wanted to show her. “Though perhaps not in my pajamas…” she amended with a grin.

Loki chuckled. “Would you like my assistance again, my darling?”

She smirked. “Unless you want me dressing in Midgardian clothes, it might be a good idea,” he knew that her idea of Midgardian clothes was also limited to jeans and t-shirts, which would definitely not be appropriate on Asgard.

Loki laughed and snapped his fingers, a beautiful gold dress shimmering into place around her as he did. She gave him a bright smile. “Thank you. Though I do hope you’re not being enough of a trickster to dress me in something embarrassing…” she warned him firmly. She wouldn’t appreciate her handicap being taken advantage of.

“Don’t worry, my darling. I would never think to do that to you. Thor maybe. But never you.”

She laughed. “You would do that to Thor,”

“I certainly wouldn’t pass up the opportunity,”

She laughed even harder. “Poor oaf,” she took his arm and leaned up to kiss his cheek. “I appreciate that you’re nicer to me than you are to Thor,” she teased. There was a warmth to her tone that told him she really did appreciate his kindness to her. It was a kindness without pity and without thinking her less simply because she couldn’t see. “Shall we head to the gardens? I’m sure we want to have some fun before dinner,” she reminded him. Or before he remembered she was supposed to be resting. She was extraordinarily bad at resting, just like her father.
