Today's crios (traditional Irish belt) weaving! Based off a black and white pattern crios from 1918 currently at the National Museum of Ireland. For anyone who doesn't know this type of belt is traditional to the Aran Islands and was originally done without a loom on the foot, but I'm using an inkle loom.

Double cloth pick up for class! It’s genuinely irritating how obnoxious this is to set up and weave because the result is SO pretty. I drafted this up for a different class last semester (which is also posted on my page) and I’m hoping to get at least two full dragons if not more.

We all know existential dread, but I propose (and please tell be if this is already a thing) existential awe.
Sometimes when I handsew or weave or something I get this immense feeling of connection to humanity. People for thousands of years all over the world have sat down and sewn a garment. Archeologists find needles and awls all the time. When I'm tablet weaving I have the same frustration at the arduous process of threading the tablets as the person 2600 years ago must have felt when they made the bands that were found in a celtic man's burial mount not far from my home. They probably also felt their back after a few hours of this.

Proof that those 10yr old unfinished projects can be completed some day! Meet Dagmar the dragon.

Are they perfect? No. But they’re finished and I love them.
This is from a now discontinued swatch critter kit for the zoom loom.

Completed card woven band! This came out so pretty. It’s done in cotton using a pattern from the book ‘Tablets at Work’.

Anyway, here's what I'm working on right now

Hand for scale
This pattern is fun and I'd like to try it on some thicker yarn for something really blocky. I'm starting to get into the rhythm of an even beat, but it's tricky with such thin, high contrast yarn because everything stands out so much.
8/2 cotton at 22 epi for some Christmas dish towels. When I do this again, I'll do 24 epi because the thread is finer than I realized. Truthfully, I misrememberd the size we used for the class I took in the spring and just...did not verify before ordering. Oh well! I'm curious about how these will wash up-- so far I'm worried they're too fine to feel very towel-y. But I've got a whole bunch now so I guess I'll just have to figured something out! I think the next thing I will try is a waffle texture. I'm thinking that'll help make the towels thicker and more substantial.
Here's my sampling section:

It turns out that all the patterns for the towels I planned to weave on this warp just do not work the way I was hoping. The birdseye and zigzag are fine, but I have to go back to the drawing board on this one.

Bifröst! Current weaving on my inkle loom! I'll be donating this one to the National Nodric Museums annual Northern lights auction in a month. Inspired by the famous rainbow bridge from Norse mythology.
I'm using the baltic pick up technique for the pattern but I'm using a much thicker worsted weight yarn because that's what I have from weaving criossanna which use a thicker yarn than is generally used in the nordic regions.

I have to give my wrist a break for a few days.
My tendinitis is acting up and now I have a bit of swelling going on.
In the meantime, here's one of my favorite pieces I've done. This was my first full sized flame pattern sash.

WE DON’T GATEKEEP WEAVING TECHNIQUES IN THIS HOUSEHOLD!
So to start this is double cloth (meaning I have two different warps, they’re threaded on 4 frames and each slot in the reed has two strings, one from each warp)

Step one: lift up the entirety of one warp (for me, pedals 2 and 4), then select the design with a pickup stick/sword/the fiber only thingy

Step 2: Go to your OTHER warp (1 and 3 for me) with the stick still in and do a back and forth of plain weave, take the stick out to beat

Step 3: Pick up the background with the stick (aka anything you didn’t pick up before, 1 and 3 for me)

Step four: Plain weave with the other warp AND a different weft (2 and 4 for me) take out the stick and beat

Step 5: Repeat! You can do this with any pixel designs, provided you have enough warp strings to have 2 per square
Fair warning, be EXTREMELY careful with your selvages (edges of the warp), they pull in the sides a lot more than regular plain weave. Happy weaving!

Tablet woven rainbow shoelaces. Because why not?
Here's the pattern, made it myself, because just lines are boring. Made it size 8 pearl yarn and deliberately tight, but it still came out slightly too wide. Also when I looked up how long laces for hightops are, and bing told me it's 54 inches, that might be a lie. Or the topmost pair of holes is not suppost to be laced? Anyway, don't repeat my mistake. Happy crafting!

How I make myself a minx loom form test weaves
Take some cardboard box and stick some pins on both sides with desired distance
Like this for example

To test if you like the distance, just wrap.sime yarn around

Now fill opposite sides of the cardboard with the pins
Tadaa make Shure you have the same amount of pins on both sides, stick them into the side of the "waves" so it doesn't binge when you warp it.
Each pin should have one on the opposite. Don't pin them offset

Also make Shure the pointy ends stay in the cardboard, so you don't hurt yourself
Fix your warp yarn and warp :D

Then tread your weave yarn, and weave! (I have some needle tatting needles that make it much more easy)

If done, remove pins and finish as you want the future project to be finished

If you want a fringe elongate the cardboard :D
And now you can make yourself a mini loom for tests :3
