i really hope that the hamilton pro-shot will encourage other musicals to do something similar because it might be expensive to do but it brings a whole new audience, and people would be more likely to go to the theatre to watch it!! bootlegs got be more chill to broadway, imagine what could happen if musicals released pro shots,,,, i know it’s pretty controversial but the theatre industry is very flawed and classist,, lots of people can’t afford to go to the theatre so more pro shots would allow people to enjoy the art in a slightly different way

‘The audience is observing the characters’, ‘the characters realise they’re characters’, ‘they’re all trapped and doomed and dead all along’ boring!! boring! wanky! find a better way to express your sense of powerlessness!
the characters are alive because they matter to you! their fishbowl is infinite and you only portray a glimpse! if they were ever alive at all they never truly die!
#I just think firstly in terms of theatre and interaction with audiences. what is the Point#women in black does this for the sake of horror right? you the audience are watching the play. the play is what summons the woman to kill#iconic. Hamilton also does it bc it’s already talking about legacies#what is the fucking point of doing this with hamlet??? hamlet and Romeo and Juliet etc are about the way these characters react#to relatable and human circumstance. that’s why everyone’s still shitting their pants about them 400 years later.#they are not characters in a play because they have to believe everything they do matters So Much to the complex web of people around them#yeah Horatio noticing the audience would be a twist ending. bc it would fucking ruin it lmao#and in terms of writing I know it’s not what you guys mean but it has this bizarre moralistic bent#if you ever kill a character you’re dooming them. if you write bad things happening to a character it’s equivalent to actually doing that#it’s very. culturally Christian thoughtcrime vibes. thoughtsin#like can u guys not map everything onto narratives of sin and blame and guilt#Hadestown does not need this bc the point of the characters in Hadestown trapped in their loop is that it influences YOU to change#them noticing and being horrified and trying to escape is pointless bc that’s literally what they’re doing. it’s not horror.#it’s just striving for a better world#I feel like this goes hand in hand with interest in time loop fiction but the whole point of that is that you CAN change things#and people won’t always act the same way#anyway creating a character is not playing god and writing a story is not placing a character on an endless suffering treadmill.#you guys sound like Mormons

Did some colouring pages by the stagey couple
...I didn’t even know half of these musicals even existed... I somehow found out what most of them are, with a little help, but I still have no idea what the one underneath Mrs Lovetts meat pies (in the 4th picture) is supposed to be.... If anyone knows please tell me)

& Juliet felt really pander-y and virtue signal-y at first, but as it went along, I really vibed with it? The writing wasn't top-notch, but it was fun and drove home the main theme, and, well. It's Broadway. You could write the shittiest script in the world and the delivery would be brilliant. Kudos to the backup dancers who held it down, the incredible main cast, and the crew that had to work on a frankly insane set. And whoever tf has to clean up the confetti after every show.
What I'm saying is, I had a lot of fun and got emotional at the end.

" 'cause here's the thing: to know how it ends and still begin to sing it again as if it might turn out this time... i learned that from a friend of mine"
this line from Hades town has been looping in my head non-stop since seeing the show and for some reason the current loop is fixated on the thought that, if you consider the concept of repeating the same sad, tragic, heartbreaking tale over and over again a problem (it's not inherently a problem, but bear with me), one that we keep falling into no matter what, the solution is... fanfiction.
fanfiction is the solution.
it's a beautiful, unique art form dedicated to exploring the stories we know and love, but fanfiction is the medium where the artist is finally able to tell the story differently.
no matter how many times we watch our favorite musicals or movies or shows, he always turns around, and the rebellion always falls, and she always tells their story, and his dad always catches him at the play, and they always run into the burning church, she never wakes up before he takes the poison, and he always gets on a boat with Levar Burton and never comes back. and that's just how the story goes.
"it's a sad song, it's a sad tale, it's a tragedy. it's a sad song, but we sing it anyway"
but then we turn to fanfiction. because it has the power to change the story. it can give it our favorite stories and characters a different ending. it can give us a different ending.
and sometimes that's exactly what we need.
"it's an old song, it's an old tale from way back when. it's an old song, and we're gonna sing it again and again.
we're gonna sing it again."
