i've always found it super fascinating how a lot of the halo fans i know are super in on making master chief an unemotional character when being emotional has always been what i feel is a very core part of his character. yes even in the trilogy.

it's always been about this. it's always been about how spartans are never supposed to feel, and yet he cannot help himself. how else could he bring himself to keep on fighting? he cares so deeply whether he likes it or not. he fights so hard because he wants to protect, and all he knows how to protect, is to fight.

maybe this is a hot take idk but this is how i interpreted the text like. his big emotional beats in halo 1 are literally when he realises how much loss of life he was about to cause (nearly detonating the ring) or did cause (after destroying the ring). and that's the most unserious game!!! LOOK AT HALO 4!!!

he was made to protect and save, and he's damn good at it. probably the only thing the man likes about his job. the thought of doing anything but is foreign to him. love was written beneath his skin the day that he was born.

I'm sorry for posting something other than D&D or BG3 ... but i finished reading Halo, The Fall of Reach the other day, and. Listen. I knew the ending. I've been playing halo since it came out (I mean come on. My blog doesn't have 117 in it for nothing) I know the games better than I know my times-tables and i knew the context of the fall of reach. But I tried to read the books when I was a little kid and the reading level was WAY too advanced for me. So my sister summed them up for me and i called it good. Flash forward to today. And wow. I was not ready for the emotional weight that cliffhanger ending gave me.

I need to play them all again (for like the 3rd time this year lol)
