You are tended to by physicians, a dying art in a flying city. Occasionally, when she can find the time, your mother takes you to its architecture, with its curving columns and highest peaks, where you can pray to the stars who thread the sky. Where you can wish upon those stars.

Your name is Halis and you meet some strange people in the hospital, and one of them fills you with a warmth you can only start to describe. She shares that warmth with you and for the first time you can breathe unaided. Your mother looks at her and she is reduced to tears of joy. Your mother will be killed that same night.

The city is falling. Safety is a memory. Those who've been killed are the lucky ones, and you are waiting for her to arrive. The goddess of fate, the one who prevails over rules set by nature itself, looks down upon the entire city and plucks you from her void, and that who swore not to intervene, intervenes.

You are placed on a terrestrial land, on a magicless land, on a land where your casual ability to operate a sending stone for more than a 25 word message is considered borderline holy. A breath of Aeor's knowledge, your kindergarten classes give you the same knowledge as the town's most studied wizard.

Your name is Halas. You were born in the calamity, and you hold the fractured knowledge of Aeor in your subconscious. The calamity is coming to an end, the final stand is nigh, and if it were to go poorly, no-one on this plane is safe.

No-one on this plane. It's time to get to work.

I highly recommend the book The Five: The Untold Lives of the Women Killed by Jack the Ripper by Hallie Rubenhold and the free podcast, Bad Women (S1) by Pushkin which covers the same material (though the book has more detail).

It's not about the crime or Jack the Ripper, it's about the women who were killed, the majority of whom were not connected with the sex trade at all. Their lives are fascinating and so full of different experiences. The book is an amazing window into the lives of lower/middle class women and their struggles.

Though it's set in the Victorian era, the ways these women and others in poverty were treated and thought of is hauntingly familiar. Disability and mental health problems are a major factor in many of the women's lives as well.

Also, the British military backdated someone's marriage so their kids would be legitimate and I find that strangely satisfying.

SUPER LATE MERRY CHRISTMAS

GOODNESS ME I HOPE I SQUEEZED IN INTO "GIFT GIVING WEEK" i should if i can count but i dont trust myself oh my gosh

SO i enlisted for #dtblrsecretsanta2024 and i got assigned @corvesfelinesart and im SO SORRY for how long it took me to post this thing and i would probably never go on tumblr again if not for the guilt id feel if i didnt end up giving my GIFT at all which. Im pretty happy how it turned out, one of the prompts i was given was "c!Dream as santa giving presents to the server" which i had to cut down to just dt+bad but they fit under "server" so i hope you'll like this piece :)

My laptop decided to die and was supposed to be fixed before first half of december came, in the end i bought a new one, went to visit my family for christmas and got sick which caused in me not having access to my drawing tablet but im actually kinda pround that i managed to do this thing without my tablet.

Im scared to open my notifications but if anyone from the event mod team wanted to behead me for being so late i accept my sentence i swear i thought i would be able to finish earlier!

I lowkey highkey suck at shading but i hope i at least made up for it a little with the rest. I love warm light in pictures/drawings so i wanted to include it, i think it made the whole thing much cozier :3

If anyone has any business for me pls give me a few days before im brave enough to open my notifs *crawls under a rug*
