Worst Song Ever?

First off, song lists are kinda dumb, subjective, whatever. But what the hell. So today while at a coffee shop, the 2021 Justin Bieber song, "Peaches," comes on, and for the time being it's my personal Worst Song Ever, or at least most annoying. Then I remember way back in the latter '90s, that "comedy" newspaper writer, Dave Barry, had his reader's vote on a list of Worst Songs Ever, and they chose "Hooty Sapperticker." (No, I can't for the life of me find the article online.) I of course think "Hooty Sapperticker" isn't just not bad, it's one of the better novelty songs ever -- probably created only for peeler joint jukeboxes, which was a thing way back... In any event, "Hooty Sapperticker" was never even close to a hit, so you will never be subjected to it at a coffee shop, or while shopping at Rite Aid, or what have you. Hence, it can't be the Worst Song Ever, because it has existed in its own odd world, far away from your daily life, innocent in its idiocy. Bieber's cringe-tune aggressively invaded our world, and profited mightily from it, like fuckin' Halliburton or something. So herein lies my simple chat question -- you tell me, WHICH OF THESE TWO SONGS IS THE WORST?:

Hey, don't sleep on the time he shot a guy In. The. Face. And the guy had a press conference to apologise to Dick The-Guy-Who-Shot-Him-In-The-Face Cheney I mean it doesn't compare to all the torture and war crimes and gestures at mountain of stone but let us not forget that the guy was evil and scary enough that a dude got shot in the face, had a heart attack because of a pellet too close to his heart, and 6 days later felt compelled to PUBLICLY apologise to the man behind the trigger for causing HIM discomfort by getting shot by him. Not to excuse Cheney or anything, but my take on him is that his evilness and cruelty has always tried to have a point or purpose. Usually imperialist or profit or other perceived benefit, but there was a point, and a chain of logic that you could comprehend. The cruelty and lack of ethics wasn't the sole purpose, but a byproduct. Even Gitmo had the excuse of "wanting intelligence".

So I think it's probably more accurate to say that Trump is too stupid of a politician for Cheney to work with, because Trump's actions often don't have a point beyond cruelty for its own sake. Not profit for the oil companies, not reconstruction money diverted into private accounts, not imperialist control of foreign regions for American nationalist interests...

Indeed, the majority of his actions that do make sense only make sense in the viewpoint of "Putin is Trump's idol and puppetmaster", and to a man like Cheney, who views the USA as the sole rightful superpower in the world, there is no greater evil than selling out the US to Putin.

But yeah, it certainly says a lot that a man who viewed "enhanced interrogation techniques" as acceptable, even desirable, has looked at Trump and gone, "You are too evil for me to work with." (comment courtesy of @the-library-alcove)

“Who the hell is running that place?”

Halliburton muttered to herself, shaking her head and rubbing her eyes in tired irritation as she watched her patient limp slowly down the hallway. Had Fairfax not suggested physical therapy to Ferguson when he made his visit to the EMS with the teaching group, the poor man would have lost all mobility in that leg of his, given the way they were prescribing APC like candy instead of actually treating him. And to think that had Ferguson not referred him to her —already weeks too late, the imbeciles — they’d have just discharged a good young man like that, with untreated muscular pain and a boot that doesn’t even fit! And now it was her responsibility to patch up the mess they’ve made of him. That’s the army for you.

She liked how he was with the dogs. And he did need better care: with more intensive physical therapy and a new boot, she reckoned he could recover a decent amount of mobility in that leg, and live an almost normal life. The gears of decision, churning in her head since she bent down on the floor and examined that atrocious boot of his, fell into place.

More paperwork for me, she thought with resignation, opening the patient’s file and sifting through her drawer for the transfer forms.

This was how Mr. Deacon found her when he poked his head into her half-open office door and knocked on it politely: head bent, brows furrowed, rifling through her paperwork to find the forms she’d only seen this morning but of course eluded discovery right when she needed them. And so she couldn’t quite believe her luck when he said that the patient —Odell —was a friend of his, and wondered whether he could be transferred over.

Of course she could arrange the transfer, if Mr. Deacon found and pre-filled the paperwork. “Just bring it to my desk when it’s ready for me to sign.”
