Since the people voted for merging the two Higanbanas, Higanbana and the two opponents it went against moved into the second round. As a result, I decided to reshuffle the matchups.

Propaganda

Hakuouki: Hakuouki has 12 routes in total so there’s a lot of options here. There’s something for everyone as they’re all different characters and have completely different dynamics with the heroine Chizuru.

Also, all but one of the men are based off of historical figures. Most of which are members of the Shinsengumi but Ryouma Sakamoto and Hachiro Iba are also route options. Hakuouki goes through a lot of historical events and has a lot of historical references, I actually learned a lot while playing it.

The one who isn’t based off of a historical figure is an Oni. There are quite a few Oni in Hakuouki actually. There’s also Rasetsu and blood drinking does ensue with them.

Hey. I would like to request a hakuouki matchup please! Thanks in advance! I'm the kind of person who can laugh at insults directed towards me and maybe, take revenge later. I tend to keep my problems to myself. I'm also not that talkative and have a hard time expressing myself. I can also be stubborn and immature at times. I'm a nice person to people who are nice to me and if they aren't, I won't be so nice as well. Hobbies are drawing fanart, listening to music and dark humor.

I match you with… Okita Souji!

Souji is someone who likes to poke fun at people. A lot. It doesn’t matter who you are, or what you’ve done for him- unless you’re Isami Kondo, then everyone is a target to some degree. So you’d be no exception to be honest, and if you laugh at it, well that’s a bit of a curve ball for him- but if you try to get revenge later? Well then, that’s unexpected but also literally he would do the same shit. So he’d be very intrigued to find someone who will take his poking fun, laugh at it, but get back at him. It’d probably become akin to a game. Albeit, he wouldn’t try to make it personal or try to deliberately hurt you; if he did then well oops, guess he’s getting his ass beat today.

Keeping your problems to yourself is something that would irk him endlessly. But he has no where to complain because he tends to do it himself- so both of you would probably have trouble communicating with one another but in turn it also teaches both of you about how maybe talking to someone else about your problems is better than keeping it in. If you can get him, he’d probably only confide in you, and he’d sure as hell make sure you know to confide in him. He can be a jerk, but he’s also a good listener and can be very serious when he needs to be.

Souji has an easy time keeping a conversation going. He’s not overtly quiet, but not extremely talkative (like how I imagine Heisuke would be.) The way he talks would likely warrant you to respond to him from time to time because well, he wants a reaction. He’d probably call you cute a lot, and say things to try to get you to express yourself. He can probably keep a one way conversation going for a while before he’d give up and act out about. Souji, in my opinion, has very loud emotions, usually portrayed in the same ways. With outbursts, humour, and dark humour. So he can express himself, it’s just a very different way than others might be used to.

Souji is definitely stubborn and immature. So put you two in a room together if you’re both feeling stubborn/immature and it’d be pretty wild. It’s another thing- kind of like the keeping your problems to yourselves - that both of you would grind each others gears by acting similarly that you could learn from one another. Not that being stubborn or anything is inherently a bad thing, but if you both do it to one another a lot, it’d be bound to annoy the both of you. And in turn, it might help both of you with being stubborn in situations. Though, Souji always gonna be stubborn lets be honest.

He’d like to see your fanart- it’d interest him and he’d have a hard time hiding it. He can’t draw tbh, he’s focused on his sword and things of the like, so watching you draw would be fun. Especially if you’re gonna draw him ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°). We all know he has a pretty macabre sense of humour, so he’d love to bounce his humour off with yours because most people either know he’s joking and brush him off/don’t care, or they won’t find him to be too funny. So he’d def enjoy finding someone with a similar sense in humour. At least you’re more likely to laugh then scold him like Hijikata :,) Speaking of- laughing at Hijikata’s haikus together, that’s fun.

Okay! Then let's give this a shot! I'll try one of my Oc's first! (Sayako 1/2) Sayako is a very no nonsense person, with quick wit and a tongue as sharp as silver, many people dislike her for the fact that she's sarcastic and full of sass a majority of the time. Almost seemingly perpetually angrily all the time, Sayako is very serious and thinks that most men are stupid and not worth her time, which is why she is a million times more curt with them than she is with women.

I read the second part, I just don't know how to include it in the answer! I ship Sayako with Okita Souji! It took a while to figure out who exactly to set her up with because of her opinions on men. While I think he'd let her know REAL quick that he wasn't stupid, probably though intimidation, the whole thing might be amusing. I'm sorry to say this but I think he'd honestly torment her and their relationship would be like Kagura and Okita in the Gintama anime. The dynamic would be almost always hostile but it would be kind of funny. I hope you liked this!!

Blood related to a snake, this blue-haired prince is an acorn that hasn’t fallen far from the tree. He recklessly bears his young fangs and employs tactics much more suited for a bull than any kind of reptile, yet these are wonderfully played off as his most alluring charms (don’t quote me on that… that’s what he told me to say) This baby snake may have a ways to go to mature as gracefully as his brother, but as it stands he’s certainly a wild ride I’m sure many would die for to get a turn on… in more ways than one.

Don’t tell him, but I think it’s obvious enough he probably isn’t the best at romance, he hasn’t given us reason to believe otherwise, and you know what? Who gives a shit? His shaky verbiage and the fumbling movements he demonstrates around you can be endearing if you’re not too critical, but Miki will try his best to appear the capable and right man for you. He will fail, that’s a given, but each time he comes back to try again is a testament to his deep feelings for you and stubbornness to have them expressed correctly... if you ask me, boy needs some tips from his bro... or wait, no, we want him to actually make you fall for him and not manipulate you into it...

Femininity is nice and all, but Miki’s heartstrings get a special tug when he sees a woman with boyish flair to her, especially if she’s also quite timid... and basically cat-like? Sign him tf up! Hello! Could I have a match-up? People call me confident, but on the inside I doubt like crazy. I don’t sugarcoat things when I give advice to friends, but always mean the best. I tend to make sarcastic and witty jokes. When I start a project, I usually try to wing it with theoretical/experienced information. Hi! Thank you for answering my earlier ask. I would like to request a Hakuoki matchup, please. Here are some things about me (I hope it's not too much). I'm 27. I like to read, write, watch movies, go for walks, and see plays and musicals at the theatre. I can be quiet when I'm in a new situation but once I feel comfortable sometimes I talk too much. Sometimes I worry about saying things wrong and hurting people's feelings. I've been misunderstood in the past and I try to avoid it. I was bullied as a tween and it took part of my teen years to be able to open up to people and make real friends. I'm much better at it now, but anxiety still has a presence in my life. I often blame myself for things that aren't really my fault or responsibility, especially when it comes to my family, and try to think of something I could have done to avoid what went wrong, even as I'm trying to tell myself it's not my fault. I usually find something to laugh about every day, even during hard times (and I've had a lot recently). I like to laugh with my friends and family. I also like to have my alone time, though. I want to be a successful author but I haven't had many publications. Sometimes I worry my life will pass me by without being able to realize my best writing ideas. I'm asexual and kind of a tomboy, though I still like certain things that are considered feminine (e.g. romance/otome games, shojo anime, having long hair). I care about gender equity and LGBTQ+ liberation, and I find it upsetting when governments try to take people's rights away. I have written emails to my members of parliament on multiple occasions on topics related to the environment and LGBTQ+ rights. On a lighter note, I love eating sweets! Cake, pie, chocolate, ice cream, I like them all! I also just love good food in general (though if someone looked at me, I wouldn't fit the stereotype, though that stereotype is BS anyway).

After reading your lovely bio a few times and a lot of thinking, I (personally) ship you with our fave quiet but kind Hajime Saitou!

Saitou Hajime x You: I think that, like you, people can misinterpret your natures. This is something that you could understand about one another. Saitou does not speak freely often but he strikes me as a good listener- something that would be good because I don’t think he’d mind the extra chatter. Saitou is very polite and respectful as well so I don’t think you’d have to worry too much about how he perceived you. He ultimately, cares a lot for his loved ones and so, by that regard, he’d care a lot about what makes you insecure based on things of current times and of your past. He’s both level headed and reassuring- the kind of person who eases your anxieties and can also rationalize your thoughts when you are upset. I think he could use a bit of your brand of liveliness and humor. He doesn’t really joke but he appreciates how often you laugh. He’d find your willpower and creative side admirable and would also encourage (and maybe keep a close eye on you to ensure) to finish your writing.

are you a fan of any shojo/josei works?

Wish I were! Josei stories in particular seem to run the gamut of mature stories in interesting locations that don’t really fit to any one mold or trope, but I read manga on an irregular basis and rarely read something I haven’t already seen others talking about. There’s doubtless some really good stuff out there…but the few that I have tried (Fruits Basket, Ao Haru Ride) don’t fit my preference for either loud, dumb, and action-packed. In general I’m not a fan of m/f romances and the tropes associated with them in female-targeted manga (the overbearing/controlling older guy, the clumsy everygirl, the female friends who function mostly as cheerleaders) which makes it hard to get into some stuff.

Shoujo/josei that I have enjoyed are

BANANA FISH, a violent thriller/action subtextual BL that reads as a bizarre fusion of The Wire and That One Darkfic You Read At Age 15, a tight series with allowances for 80s + bl tropes that should absolutely be read with a list of CWs.

Shimanami Tasogare/Our Dreams At Dusk, a sort of pan-demographic slice of life with some melodramatic moments, you’ve doubtless heard of it but it is as good as they say. A quick and impactful read, I want to read the mangaka’s other works but I really need to emotionally prepare myself first lol.

GSNK, it’s funny!

Hakuouki. Purely a matter of timing. I watched it as my third anime ever and became obsessed with the way the side characters were built up in drama CDs and bonus content, many of which only exist as translated on the tokio-fujita LJ by a person who is now unfortunately deceased(?) but back in the day successfully pulled a minor scam or two within the fandom. Pretty mid, has all the same fatal flaws as any VN adaptation, interesting cast and ideas HAMSTRUNG by having to stick to the main m/f romance, women robbed of all relevance and agency, somehow the male protag’s love interest in the prequel is far better written than the female protag. This series is indivisible from my love of all animanga so I can’t tell how good or bad it is. I can only say that I spent a very very long time thinking about it. Classic shinsengumi story, Japan is torn by a civil war between traditionalist and modernizing factions, but also there are magically enhanced vampiresoldiers and a line of bloodsucking demons seeking to continue their race through eugenic matchups. It’s Anime as anything.

There are a few others that fall into josei/shoujo-adjacent but that aren’t officially in the category I think? After Hours (mature and sedate slice of life romance), No. 6 (slow biological sci fi), Shadows House (ontological mystery thriller) are all series I’ve enjoyed but never quite got to ‘fan’ except for Shadows House, which I really need to catch up on

Bonus rec: Hakkenden: Eight Dogs of the East is as far as I can tell just a cringe, tropey bl-inflected adventure with godawful pacing that I somehow watched in grade 10? Absolutely would not recommend for a quality watch but it’s obscure enough that it has a certain novelty.

I’ve rb’d a few josei/shoujo recs for future references as I keep searching for something to vibe with so all recommendations are welcome! Next one I am considering a read of is XXXHolic, haven’t yet started because while the pros are that it is CLAMP, the cons are that it is also CLAMP and my list of works to consume is too long to spend time trying to figure out whose legs are whose.

If you’re looking for manga to read, I have to recommend Screentone Club podcast! They do first-volume reviews of mostly new manga without anime adaptations that hit the sweet spot of brief, literate, and indicative without being spoilery. Doesn’t work well for series that get good in the 8th volume, but it’s my go-to for broadening my awareness of the current scene.

Above kinda ties into the joint and muscle pain thing- he'dworry about it a lot. He'd like to make sure you're okay and ask you how youare everyday. He'd want to make sure you stay positive- like how you try tostay positive. If you ever start to feel down, he'd start to do whatever hecould to make you smile. He really looks up to your positivity towards yourpain, etc. and he finds himself also trying to be more positive (if we'retalking in the Hakuouki verse, not modern AU, that applies to him becoming afury.) and things that affect him, be it physical or mental.

Heisuke is pretty extroverted. He likes to talk (or that'show I picture him) and he likes to smile. You two might be able to balance oneanother in that he might be able to help you be a bit more out there, and youmight be able to help him relax/calm down a bit. But he'd be very understandingof your shyness, and respect that if you don't want to go somewhere or dosomething, then you don't have to.

Heisuke can be a bit clingy. So you'd likely hardly everhave a chance to feel alone. Your fear of being alone wouldn't have a chance toactually manifest cause he'd be there all the time. I also think Heisuke has abit of a fear of loneliness, so he might find comfort in you. For your fear ofthe dark, he'd be the type of guy to take out a candle (in the canon universe)or a flashlight (in an modern AU) and make a bunch of weird handgestures/puppets on the wall that always fucking suck and it'd be hard tofigure out what they are.
