The otter in our huge Community 🌈🦦
Welcome to the rainbow world🏳️‍🌈 or rather the world of Bears ! Grrrrrrr.
Tumblr media
In this diverse landscape, you've got 'otters'. What's that, you ask?
Well, Gay Otter is a skinny gay guy who's fairly hairy. He might trim that mane on his body or perhaps let it grow free. You'll see some rocking beards, while others prefer a cleaner shave. 🐻🦦
Picture a real-life otter. That's kinda what we're talking about. They're on the smaller side, especially when you think about those burly Cubs or hefty Bears.
Tumblr media
It's all about the fur over here - surprising, right? Especially when you'd normally think otters are as sleek and smooth as they come.
So, otters - yeah, they're fit and lithe, not exactly muscle-bound. Age doesn't matter here. They're members of the bigger bear family. Let's say, otters are comfortably nestled between Cubs and bears, not as big as bears, and definitely tinier than Cubs.
To help you better get it, let's toss in a celeb example:
Scott Caan. Right, the dude from "Into the Blue" and "Hawaii Five-0". Want a visual?
Tumblr media
Check him out. He's got just the right amount of chest and torso hair. Might even trim to keep it in check. So yeah, standing at 5'5'' and a Los Angeles native, Scott's an awesome otter illustration.
Otters are just one component of the immense Bear community. Each week, we'll be talking about the sub-communities within our huge Bear community.

As a 22f I rarely shave anywhere, just for special occassions because that is what society expects.
No it doesn’t mean I am gross or unhygenic. Men don’t shave and those words aren’t thrown at them.
I just dont think my body should look like a prepubescent child’s.

Posting because apparently some people in this world still think it’s okay to tell a women how she’s supposed to look to be a women! The fact that some women believe this is disgusting and frightening. I understand body hair isn’t for everyone, but telling women they aren’t feminine or “real women shave” is unbelievable. Be you in this harsh world and support others! Nothing is more important than women supporting other women. #hairyandproud #bodyhairpositive #loveyourflowers (at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort)

I was going to post about my body hair at some point soon but I was feeling hesitant because I feel incredibly vulnerable doing so, but @selfloveclubb did a post about hers and inspired me to think FUCK IT. I’ve recently stopped shaving, it was causing problems for me, it was making self care an even bigger task and sometimes it would prevent me from showering because I just couldn’t bring myself to shave even though I ‘needed’ to, so I avoided the shower more than I care to admit. I didn’t have the mental or physical energy for it, it’s exhausting enough staying on top of basic self care! So one day I decided to free myself from the shackles of societal beauty standards and shower without shaving, and my god I enjoyed that shower, I enjoyed not feeling this pressure that had bogged me down so much! I’m grateful for this experience of not shaving, and allowing my body to just do what it does naturally because for the first time in my entire life it feels like a choice, if I shave again it will be MY choice for myself! Every time I shaved I would be agony, I would either pull my back or my arms would ache and my legs would ache and the shooting pains would start and I guess eventually when it came down to it, shaving just really didn’t seem worth it in the end. So here I am, doing what I need to do to live life as comfortably as I can. I feel empowered I feel cute I feel beautiful I feel vulnerable And that is ok. My mental and physical health are the most important and this has lifted a weight off my shoulders. #hairy #hairyarmpits #hairyandproud #effyourbeautystandards #mentalhealth #chronicillness #invisibleillness #physicalillness #armpithair #dontcare #chronicpain #chronicpainwarrior #fatigue #depression #borderlinepersonalitydisorder #bpd #complexptsd #ptsd #wegotthis #feminism #femalepower #girlpower #pussypower #grlpwr #whoruntheworldgirls

When I first stopped shaving 'down there' it took no time at all for me to decide I preferred it, although it still felt 'unnatural' and I worried what other people, mainly men, would think of my bush. Now having hair down there feels great and I love how soft they feel, and my boyfriend has never had any complaints. I've been bushy for a good 2 years now but it's taken me until now to come up with the courage to grow back the rest of my body hair. Over the past few weeks I've become quite fond of my armpit hair, it's not fully grown in yet and is kind of fuzzy; I find it quite cute actually. The problem is my leg hair. Despite having it for over a month now, I cannot get over the stigma; I look at it and it looks odd. What is so wrong in our society that young women cannot keep what grows on them naturally without feeling 'unnatural' or 'dirty'? Having leg hair makes me feel unfeminine, and although my boyfriend tells me that, hand on heart, he couldn't give a toss whether I am hairy or not, it still feels wrong to me. I will continue to keep my legs hairy because I want it to feel normal. It should be normal! Why do we find body hair on women so offensive? All we are doing is promoting body shaming;  I still have a vivid memory of being  12 and stealing my mother's razor because I was so ashamed of my body hair, and too afraid to talk to her about it because we just didn't talk about stuff like that in my house. We need to be open with young people, girls and boys alike, when puberty hits, body hair develops on both genders, we shouldn't differentiate, we need to educate! Body hair removal should be presented as an option for both genders as well, it doesn't need to be the norm for just women to shave (or wax or use cream) If you still choose to remove your hair after you have been educated, as long as it is your choice, and you are doing it for you, because you want to, and not because it has been conditioned into you that you need to be silky smooth all the time. Never feel ashamed of who you are, hairy or not.
I still remember when my pubes grew in, and instantly in my head the most natural thing for me to do was to shave them off. I continued to do this for years, despite finding it uncomfortable. For me it would grow back almost instantly and if I tried to shave again too soon my skin would be left raw and irritated. When I was 14 I was seeing a boy and I confessed to not being  'freshly shaved' (I had shaved the day before) and although he said he didn't mind, later when we were 'messing around' he felt my stubble and told me it was disgusting. The same boy also confirmed fears I had that my breasts were too small, and for years I wore ridiculously padded bras to overcompensate. It has taken me along time to come to terms with and be happy with my body, and a big part of this is the how way women 'should be' has been portrayed to me.
