These “hairdressers” gon mess around and get no customers at all with all these dumb rules they be making up and for not providing the services they’re supposed to. What makes it even worse is that a lot of them reek of texturism. Be excluding those with kinkier hair types all cuz they can’t do hair. There’s no reason why you should have to straighten their hair in order to get the desired style either. When ppl start telling on y’all for not having licenses or being neglectful/lazy don’t get mad. You brought that on yourself.

As a person with wavy/curly hair, all these local salons that specialize in "balayage" and 1-inch barrel curls really scare the shit out of me 🙃

A quick point for someone who has experienced this... A lot of times, barbershops are not the friendliest to femmes who want or have short hair. Sometimes they flat out refuse to cut your hair, or try to charge you a higher price for the same haircut. It's really sad, but barbershops seem to have some of the worst gender stereotypes (and I live in a very progressive city).

Even if you do find a barber who cuts your hair well, you usually have to tolerate some pretty crappy remarks about you or other women... which is the situation I'm in. I just let him talk because frankly I don't feel like finding another barber, and if I disagree with him openly he'd stop cutting my hair. But I can understand that other people would be uncomfortable.

My recommendation is to find a gay barber (tbh my old butch lesbian barber was the best stylist I'd ever been to). They know exactly what you're looking for, and there are actually a ton of gay barbershops opening up now. I know it requires a fair bit of research, but once you find the right person, you'll thank yourself forever LOL

why is it when you go to a hair salon as a transmasc/nb person and go “i want something very short and simple. masculine. here’s a photo of a man. that’s how i want my hair to look.” without fail your middle aged hairdresser is like “yes. right. i know exactly what you’re looking for. let me just ….. snip snip” and you come out of there like 2007 kate gosselin
