Haikyuu Chapter 395: The Lucky Ones Part 2

REFLECTION:

Ushijima talks to Tendo in a flashback. In another flashback, a kid tells him he thinks volleyball is boring.

I think it's safe to predict that we will not be seeing that boy in this manga ever again.

The rest of the chapter shows Ushijima refining and honing his gifts, some of which he owes to his father Utsui. The chapter ends with Ushijima smiling (!) while thanking his father.

my take on the ushiiwa photo incident

tbh one thing that really surprised me is that both hinata and ushijima didn’t really follow oikawa’s career... i always imagined that they’d keep tabs on him or at least know where he went. i’ll show you what i mean:

oikawa left japan shortly after his high school graduation in 2013. 

in chapter 395, during ushijima’s flashback, we see iwaizumi again for the first time post time skip and we get the information that he’s 19 and a college sophomore, so that means that oikawa has definitely been abroad for at least a year already.... and ushijima has only heard rumors about it??? 

also hinata and oikawa meet in rio in june 2016, so oikawa’s been abroad for like three years. hinata is extremely surprised to see oikawa and doesn’t seem to know that he’s playing in argentina now, so he really hasn’t heard a thing about it either??? like, seriously?? i get that he’s surprised to suddenly see him but his reaction from chapter 372 is not really the reaction of someone who knew that oikawa has been living in argentina for years..

but it’s not like no one knew.. iwaizumi knew, as shown in chapter 395 when he talks to ushijima. it’s also shown that kindaichi and kunimi knew as well as shown in chapter 372.

and it seems like kageyama might’ve known too since it’s implied that he and oikawa watch each other’s games (even if they can’t admit it). to be able to watch each other’s games they would need to know where the other is playing after all, so....

that’s it. that’s all i wanted to say.

and just from a few sentence of catching up, tendou easily picks up that something was weighing ushijima down thru the phone and just by hearing his voice and instantly goes
