Eurylochus Reincarntes As Hadestown Orpheus Concept Au

Introduction

So I know nothing about Hadestown but thinking about the parallels between Eurylochus and Orpheus got me thinking about an au where after Thunderbringer, Persephone takes pity on Eurylochus feeling how anguished his soul is and decides to give him a second chance to ensure he isn't lost in the river styx forever. She also gives Eurylochus the gift of song and he reincarnates into Orpheus from Hadestown. So we in a sense get Jordan Fisher as Eurylochus lol. Also making it angstier I'm having the idea of playing with Ctimene being reincarnted as Eurdice meaning Eurylochus failed to keep Ctimene in his arms twice.

Yep I got so comfortable comparing Eurylochus and Orpheus parallels that I want to make them the same person. So Eurylochus gets to trade his giant ass sword for a guitar.

Basic concept is as Orpheus keeps returning to the Underworld he keeps bumping into people that knew him as Eurylochus on the way to Hadestown. He encounters Odysseus who helps him and warns that he should make sure his journey doesn't end up like it did the first time. Polites gives him advice on how to win over Persephone and Anticlea appears as a bodyguard protecting the now Hadestown. Worse Odysseus, Anticlea and Polites remember Orpheus but Orpheus has no memory of them. You could play with that concept and have Eurdice being confused and angry Odysseus tried to help Orpheus.

Orpheus ignores Odysseus's warnings as well as Hades and turns back. Odysseus looks after Eurdice and you can either have Ctimene apologising to Eurdice saying she loved the wrong man or Odysseus apologising for failing his sister again. Eurdice gets a promotion and Ody bargains that Hades will let Eurdice be a bodyguard until Orpheus passes on.

Eurylochus got a second chance but repeated all the same mistakes and let doubt creep in. He failed Ctimene by doubting Odysseus and this time fails Eurdice by ignoring Hades's warning.

Persephone reincarnted Eurylochus so he may get into Elysium but that doesn't mean his life is tragedy free. Orpheus/Eurylochus is always cursed to have his loved ones die and his luck run out. To make it up to Eurdice, Orpheus becomes a healer and travels around with his songs with the purpose of healing young souls and comforting souls on the verge of death.

So that's basically the au concept we are working with. I'm going to share Orpheus's Pov and then I'll share Odysseus's Pov.

Please be aware I'm dyslexic and this is not beta read.

A Returning Visitor

Orpheus's Pov

Orpheus followed Hermes instructions, kept his head down and tried to be unnoticeable. Unfortunately it seemed he didn't keep his head down as well as he thought as an odly familiar voice called his name.

"Eurylochus!"

That wasn't his name. It had never been his name. Yet still Orpheus paused. He turned to find a man roughly his height accept his clothes looked more old fashioned. The mans brown eyes haunted him and it scared him.

"I hope you find this Eurylochus eventually but I'm not him. I'm Orpheus." He said introducing himself.

"Odysseus of Ithaca." The man responded in return.

Something about that name left a flury of emotions in his mind. Love, hate, guilt, pain, joy and sadness. It confused him but he knew that at the moment Eurdice was his priority.

"Nice to meet you Odysseus, I don't suppose you could help me? I'm looking for someone."

"Who?" Odysseus asked.

"Eurdice. She's my everything and Hermes told me she ended up down here. I have to save her."

Odysseus's sympathetic face suprised him. Maybe Hermes was wrong, maybe not everything was out to get him.

"I can't come with you Orpheus but keep straight on the path without stopping and you'll find Lord Hades. Be warned though Lord Hades doesn't let souls go easily." Odysseus replied honestly.

"How do you know?" Orpheus asked.

"Cos I had to sacrifice an afterlife with Penelope in order to save my crew." He explained.

Disbelief. Again Orpheus didn't understand why the man was making him feel so many complicated things.

"I'll keep that in mind." Orpheus lied.

"Please do my friend. Don't let your luck run out." Odysseus pleaded sorrowfully.

Odysseus starred at him in a way that screamed familiarity. It confused Orpheus and worried him.

"Is something wrong?" He asked.

"No you just remind of someone." Odysseus explained.

"Who?"

"An old friend. You have his spirit, Eurylochus cared for his friends and family deeply as you do Eurdice. I let him down."

"Oh. I'm sorry." Orpheus apologised. He didn't understand why but knew it was the right thing to do.

"It's fine, it's in the past now but Eurdice isn't. What ever you do, promise me you won't give up or look back." Odysseus pleaded.

"I promise." Orpheus said.

He gave Odysseus one last look before returning on his walk through the Underworld. Odysseus's last words shook him though.

"And Orpheus." He said.

"Yeah."

"Don't forget how dangerous the God's are." Odysseus warned.

With that Orpheus continued to walk forward taking Odysseus's heart in mind. Unlike Odysseus he vowed that he wouldn't let Eurdice down.

Odysseus Pov

Odysseus's heart sunk when he saw him here again. It had to be him. Eurylochus, his old friend and brother that he had betrayed. He may now have thick black curly hair and a guitar in place of his sword but it was still him. Odysseus couldn't stop himself as he called out to him.

"Eurylochus!"

The man froze. It gave Odysseus hope but then the hope quickly died when he saw his friends confusion. Eurylochus was a new man now, a new man he didn't have to crane his neck to look up at. The mans gaze looked like a distant memory and it hurt him so much.

"I hope you find this Eurylochus eventually but I'm not him. I'm Orpheus." The new man replied introducing himself.

Orpheus! The named suited Eurylochus more then anything and it made Odysseus proud. Trying not to embass himself, he did his best to reintroduce himself to his friend.

"Odysseus Of Ithaca." Odysseus replied, reintroducing himself.

"Nice to meet you Odysseus, I don't suppose you could help me? I'm looking for someone." Orpheus said

Odysseus tried to supress a sigh at that. After all they'd once been through of course Orpheus would be here recklessly trailing The Underworld for someone.

"Who?" Odysseus asked.

"Eurdice. She's my everything and Hermes told me she ended up down here. I have to save her." Orpheus explained.

Odysseus stared at his friend sympathetically. He smiles thinking about his sister Ctimene, who would be proud Eury-Orpheus is willing to sacrifice everything for his love. He then thinks about Penelope who he sacrificed everything for and abandoned in the afterlife. His heart aches.

"I can't come with you Orpheus but keep straight ahead on the path without stopping and soon you'll find Lord Hades. Be warned though Lord Hades doesn't let souls go easily." Odysseus warned.

"How do you know?" Orpheus asked.

He knows if Orpheus still remembered everything, he would be speechless over what he was about to confess. Eurylochus had died thinking Odysseus did not care about him.

Conclusion

So I have so many other Epic Au concepts I wanted to share but this one was one I definitely wanted to show off. I promise if I fully flesh out this au I will listen to Hadestown and do my proper research. I am studying Ovids Metamorphosis but definitely Hadestown is on the list to check out.

Honestly I did not think comparing Eurylochus and Orpheus would send me down this hole but here we are. I now have two aus where a God just reincarnates Eurylochus right after he had a traumatic death.

My asks are open if you are interested in me further fleshing this concept. It's a concept for now as i want to see how you Winions and Hadestown fans react.

OKOK LAST POST FOR THE NIGHT I PROMMY BUT all this spytown talk has me thinking about the hadestown alt ending they did for when reeve left, but in the context of spies are forever... like for one night... curt doesn't shoot owen and they get to leave together... how would that even play out??? would it be tatiana, cynthia, barb, etc., showing up to give them permission to leave???

but then think about it- in hadestown, when orpheus and eurydice are told they get to leave, they've just made peace with each other again and promised to love each other and are ready to go home together... but how would owen and curt react to this news?

curt would at least be a little bit pleased, surely. we know from watching him in the scene that he doesn't want to have to do this, but... would he really trust owen enough to walk out hand in hand with him? and what about owen? would be even be ABLE to put aside his beliefs, his mission, his distrust, his bitterness, his need for revenge- long enough to just walk away? and walk away with curt?

i mean, you hope to god he would. what's the point otherwise? but- could you imagine?

sitting in the audience at, let's say, spies live in the uk, watching this infamous scene, when right towards the end, right as owen finishes singing his reprise, the rest of the cast comes out to tell the two of them, and the audience, that they get to leave together.

could you imagine, then, the feeling going through you, as you realize, this is it? all those fanfictions, all those analysis posts, all those daydreams about what could have been- about to play out right before your very eyes?

and- could you imagine- if after all that, they wouldn't go? if curt and owen refused to leave? if that final gunshot ran out and the show proceeded as normal, no differences, nothing at all to suggest anything was ever going to change in the first place, but-

you know. you know the chance was there. and you now know that no matter the circumstances, no matter the monologue or ballad, no matter what hypotheticals all our brains could come up with to possibly change what's canon and true- you now know that if given the chance, they'd say no?

i mean, you hope to god they wouldn't. what's the point otherwise? but- could you imagine?

Whats a more perfect introduction to some of my interests and my wring than this. A Hadestown x Yellowjackets oneshot! (No Yellowjackets spoilers I’m still on the fist season.) I also posted this on my Wattpad, @ GayFae13. So go check that out if you want more!

Jackie stood at the bar with a drink in her hand, staring across the space at a girl sitting in a booth by herself. Jackie had spotted her first while she was performing for the bar, singing and playing guitar with her band. She had looked so engulfed in their music that Jackie barely had eyes for anyone else through the whole set. She takes a sip of her drink, a light fruity thing, more juice than alcohol at this point. She felt a smile creep over her face as she felt her band mates lingering behind her. They always knew exactly where to be when Jackie was about to get herself into a situation. Nobody wanting to miss Jackie making a fool of herself... again.

"You wanna talk to her?" Nat asks, popping her head over Jackies shoulder.

"Yes," the dirty blonde replies quickly. She turns over her shoulder to stare back at her band mates, her closest friends.  Nat, Lottie, and Van stared back at her with sly grins, they all knew who Jackie had been eyeing up all night. She wasn't exactly subtle after all.

"Go on," Lottie encourages, giving her a little push towards the mysterious girl. She giggles lightly, her laugh like a tinkling bell as she played match maker with her friend.

"Jackie," Van says tentatively, always the voice of reason of the group. Jackie whirls back around for a second time, the band was making her nervous. She knew she wasn't the smoothest, but did they really have to point it out every time?

"Yes...?" she repeats, her eyes wavering as she looks between her three best friends nervously. Their faces softened slightly and Van even lets out a small sigh.

"Don't come on too strong," the three say in unison. Her friends knew her too well, and her tendencies to be awkward and clunky rather than cool and flirty when it came it talking to girls. But this time was going to be different. She wouldn't fumble or say something largely embarrassing or overshare. She wouldn't just talk to this pretty girl like a normal person. A normal person.

Jackie takes a deep breath and turns around again, Lottie giving her another gentle push in the direction of the girl. Jackie maneuvered her way through the bar and the people, eyes focused on the table. As she gets closer she takes another sip of her drink before slipping into the opposite side of the bar from the girl.

"Come home with me," she sputters, immediately regretting the foolish words that had slipped out. Her crew, lingering only a table away, all sighed and shook their heads. Nat holds the bridge of her nose and groans. Ya know, some things never change.

"Who are you?" the girl asks, eyebrow raised suspiciously at the girl who just sat down across from her who was pretty much a stranger. Who was this girl? She had seen her perform with her band earlier in the night, and she was gorgeous. But she had never talked to her, never seen her till this night.

"The girl who's gonna marry you! I'm Jackie," she fumbles again, internally screaming at herself. What was wrong with her? But she reached her hand out anyways, offering the girl a handshake over the table.

"Is she always like this?" the dark haired girl asks, ignoring Jackies hand and looking over at the three other girls, clearly knowing that they are with with dirty blonde in front of her. They were a band after all. She wasn't stupid.

The band tries to act causally, like they aren't involved or were ease dropping on the conversation. They are failing miserably. Typical. They give up the act as Van pushes them a little closer to the table. They already got caught, why not hear a little better. "Yes," the three nod sadly. Tragically, Jackie was always this clumsy with girls.

"I'm Shauna," she says after letting out a small sigh, finally accepting Jackies hand shake. Jackie shakes it excitedly, a smile stretching across her face. She doesn't see her friends a couple feet off trying to get her to play it cool.

"Your name is like a melody," Jackie replies, clinging to Shauna's hands for a couple moments longer than she should before letting it go. Her eyes seemed to glimmer. This wavering spark that almost made her clumsiness attractive.

"A singer? Is that what you are?" Shauna asks teasingly, leaning on her hand on the table. Her dark brown hair sways around her head as she grins, still unimpressed.

"I also play the lyre," Jackie says, staring dazed at the girl before her as she informed her about her own musical endeavors. She loved when people asked her about her music. Her music and her band was her everything. She planned to change the world with her music.

"A lair and a player too? I've met too many girls like you," Shauna says with a scoff, chuckling slightly at her own play on words. Jackie was just another musician looking for her newest muse.

"Oh no, I'm not like that!" Jackie quickly defends, not picking up on the playfulness in her tone or the play on words itself. Hmm, she really was a little slow.

"She's not like any girl you've ever met," Lottie adds, the three girls looming behind Jackie playfully. Like little spirits encouraging her on.

"Tell her what you're working on!" Van encourages, tapping Jackies shoulder excitedly. The three watched Jackie, praying she wouldn't fumble again and that this interaction could still be saved. Plus, Shauna was a pretty young girl.

"I'm working on a song!" Jackie bursts out, clearly excited to share and talk about this piece of music. Her face beams like the sun, like a smiling kid, proud of their own achievements. "It isn't finished yet, but when it's done and when I sing it, spring will come again." She stands on her seat, proclaiming this supposedly musical masterpiece to the whole bar, not just Shauna. Nat whacks her on the back of her head and Jackie sheepishly sits back down, still beaming.

"Come again?" Shauna asks, really taken aback by this big idea. Was that even really possible?

"Spring will come!" Jackie says again, nodding her head like a happy dog.

"When? I haven't seen a spring or fall since... I can't recall," Shauna says, pondering the state of the world they lived in. There was no spring here. Not here. Not now. But Jackie- My- The look on her beaming face looks like it might be enough to bring back spring all on its own. There really was something captivating about her.

"That's what I'm working on! A song to fix what's wrong! Take what's broken and make it whole," she says, spreading her hands out in an arc like she was painting the world before her. And maybe she was, painting over this gray world with the color of her music. There was something about the look in her eyes and the determination in her smile that made Shauna believe that maybe she was right. "A song so beautiful- it brings the world back into tune! Back into time. And all the flowers will bloom- When you become my wife!" And there she goes again.

"Oh she's crazy," Shauna chuckles, giving a teasing look to the three girls who still lingered over Jackie from behind. "And why would I become her wife?"

"Maybe because she'll make you feel alive," Lottie says with that delicate, flowery smile. She patted Jackie's shoulder confidently, and Jackie just beams, her hands spread out on the table. Shauna thought she might be crazy. But sometimes crazy is what it takes to make change. Maybe Jackie really could make spring come. The more she stared at her, the more she thought, if anyone could do it, it would be Jackie.

"Alive," she says quietly, almost pondering the thought to herself. "That's worth a lot." A smile creeps over her face as she looks up at Jackie.

"What else you got?"
