putting yoon hye-jin and hong du-sik in a blender, and miraculously, out comes haikaveh
author's notes for my heart is an old house, where i attempt to remix Hometown Cha-cha-cha into a haikaveh AU because i like to combine my obsessions. this time it comes with beach vibes and professional-personal quarter-life crises.
on one hand, yoon hye-jin. clever, fiercely hard-working and incredibly ambitious. her mother passed away when she was a kid and she never recovered from the hurt, and could never come to terms with her father's remarriage either. high income, high spending, high financial anxiety. overly concerned with how people think of her. touchy and quick to take offence, but also intensely guards her own emotions. individualistic, introverted and self-reliant to a fault. pragmatic and rational. usually disliked or avoided by people because of her aloof exterior. refuses to go the extra mile for anybody else's sake, but will nevertheless stand up for her principles at any cost (see: quitting her job because her boss asked her to overcharge an elderly patient). city girl, out of touch with reality. socially elite and aware of it. the "pride" half. likes very few people, but once she loves you, she'll do anything for you. sharp words and acts of service. caring to the point of being overbearing. often lacks sensitivity. unquestioningly loyal. an egoist made out of isolation who longs to love someone unconditionally despite not thinking herself capable of it. her arc is about making space in her heart for people and things beyond herself.
on the other hand, hong du-sik. naturally brilliant, laid-back, and living 'below his potential'. orphaned young and brought up by a grandfather who died when he was a teenager. low income, high savings, frugal but comfortable lifestyle. couldn't care less how people think of him. easygoing and thick-skinned, but also highly opinionated. values community; depends on others and lets others depend on him. philosophical and spontaneous. beloved by all on account of his affable demeanour. quick to help everyone around him, even at his own inconvenience; but he does have strong boundaries that he won't cross regardless of the stakes (see: refusing to look after the neighbourhood kids' hamster because of his own undisclosed hangups). village boy, feet firmly planted on the ground. has lived at both ends of the social class spectrum and scorns the entire concept. the "prejudice" half. friends with everyone, but a cautious and closed-off lover. has believed himself responsible for his loved ones' deaths for years. struggles to connect on an emotional level. an altruist made of guilt who longs to be loved unconditionally despite believing he doesn't deserve it. his arc is about making space for himself in a heart too full of other people and things.
have i mentioned how much i love the supporting cast of HTCCC? if you want the sarcastic mom friend/pedantic law enforcer side ship (cynonari) then mi-seon and eun-cheol are right there. I don’t see any parallels in any of the other side characters, but the large-ensemble feeling of small-town life is definitely something i want to harness in this fic.
one day, i'll get around to finishing it. maybe next year. until then, i'll be rewatching the drama "for inspiration", and falling in love with gongjin all over again each time.

Doubt final thoughts
I spoil the whole thing, approach w/ caution!
doubt 2024 is such an interesting piece, because the root of its core conflict (is ha-bin a serial killer) is so small. Ha-bin isn’t a serial killer. She hasn’t got a homicidal bone in her body. What she is tho is: quiet, withdrawn, serious, bad at reading social cues (but great at lying lol), inexpressive. Basically all the things that a child, especially a daughter, shouldn’t be. She has the slight misfortune of being a neurodivergent girl in our world, and then her brother dies, and her neurotic father, who has absolute faith in his skills as a criminal profiler, decides to deal with his grief by projecting guilt onto his surviving child.
Doubt uses the conventions & heightened cinematic language of a crime thriller to explore the consequences for a girl who exists “off-script”, but the effect is also slightly humorous. Like, all that drama & sensation for a kid who might just be autistic. But w/o that visual language & without that drama, the pain of being misunderstood & villainised by those supposed to care for you most wouldn’t be conveyed - & likewise, the lack of support given to parents trying to build a happy world for their “weird” kids. Du-cheol’s unwavering faith in his son’s innocence seems misplaced, but instead becomes affirming, rejecting criminality as genetic, and making Tae-soo’s refusal to believe Ha-bin all the more shameful.
I’m not surprised that the show doesn’t end with the guilty suspect dragged off to jail - it’s not interested in Sung-hee beyond using her to confirm Ha-bin’s innocence. It’s not interested in her psychology - it places her & Young-min’s cruelty squarely in the context of a society where children can vanish off-grid in the absence of care. It acknowledges that policing /= charity, but also presents a police force that is competent & efficient. I’m not sure how I feel about that, but the show was never going to be critical of cops lol. Chae Won-bin is a talent - holding her own alongside Han Suk-kyu, & bringing out Ha-bin’s childishness & vulnerability in the most heartbreaking moments. I had a great time - this is one of the few 2024 kdramas I’ve seen that was committed to its premise from beginning to end.

Lee Jung-eun, 'thrilled' when Kim Ha-eon, a missing child, leaves the village
'Missing: They were there 2' Lee Jeong-eun was thrilled to see Kim Ha-eon leave the soul village.
In the 7th episode of tvN's Monday-Tuesday drama 'Missing: They Were There 2' (hereinafter referred to as 'Missing 2'), which aired on the 9th, Baek Il-du (Ji Han) found the body of Lee Ro-ha (Kim Ha-eon).
On this day, she confided to Ko Sang-cheol (Nam Hyun-woo), Lee Iro-ha, that she missed the ambulance her mother was riding in the past. Lee Ro-ha said, "I went by ambulance. I couldn't run, so I followed it for a bit and missed it." Ko Sang-cheol comforted him, saying, "It's not that you're running slow, it's that the ambulance is too fast."
Iroha said, "So you just have to run faster than the car. That's why you can go to the mother's place. If she is the first runner, she can run as fast as the car, right?"
Afterwards, she participated in the running competition at the Iroha Sports Festival. At this time, Baek Il-du searched for Iro-ha's body based on her witness' testimony, and her body was finally found.
She won first place amid everyone's cheering, and at that moment, her spirit disappeared from the village. Kang Eun-sil (Lee Jeong-eun) was thrilled, saying, "The child who came 8 years ago lonely left today receiving everyone's applause."

Full Name: Ha Cheol-Du (하철두)
Species: Human
Age: 16~18
Affiliation: Demon Slayers
Birthplace: Incheon Ganghwagun
Family: Ha Go-Su (father; deceased), Chun Seo-Ju (mother; deceased), Ha Cheol-Mi (older brother), Ha Su-Mi (1st little sister; deceased), Ha Jae-In (2nd little sister; deceased), Ha Do-Jun (1st little brother; deceased), Ha Hyun-Jun (2nd little brother; deceased), Ha Su-Bin (youngest brother; deceased)
Cheol-Du was a second born of Ha Go-Su, who was a tiger hunter in the village. He has older brother Cheol-Mi, who is currently a Pung-Ju of Demon Slayers organization. Cheol-Du is only able to wield crossbow and archery, talented with sniping. His father used to abuse their mother, but ever since his death by lynch from villagers, the tragedy began when her mother turned into Changgwi (창귀; a grudging ghost killed by tiger who serves their feline master) and led the tiger to the village as the feline beast ate up most of his siblings. In enraged frenzy, Cheol-Du bite off the flesh of the tiger and drank its blood, transforming into dark furred tiger before brutally killing it, setting his family’ spirits free. But the anger of himself couldn’t control his temper he accidentally scratched Cheol-Mi, scarring his face.
Remorseful of this past, Cheol-Du joined Demon Slayers to repent his sins. He has an appearance of tough and intimidating young man, but in reality his heart is fragile as glass as Gi-Cheol can smell the scent of insecurity and fear while Sun-Il could hear Cheol-Du’s wailing of regret. Cheol-Du has been excelled with only hunting town tiger demons, he has zero idea of how to interact with girls and would end up blush, froze and bumbling out in nervous manner.

Biological crisis!
Damn. Crisis never looked this beautiful. My god. My heart. If my heart broke yesterday, it has been filled to the brim with absolute love today.
Apart from our couple actually getting together, I need to talk about pyo mi seon. You go girl. And that friendship. Yes, go shopping together, go have meal dates, spa dates, talk to each other about the non-existent love life. Kdramas usually having bromances, but it's really so bright to see wholesome female friendship.
Also I liked that they didn't overdo mi seon's makeup when she returned from the hospital. That much gives this drama a touch of reality. But also how did Hye Jin had a perfectly dry dress after that rain, I guess the car's heater worked well. But still. Excused anyway. Because the confession that followed was just beautiful. The background ost was freaking perfect. And he replied with a kiss. He didn't reject her. I'm sorry for doubting you Hong bangjang.
The next episode preview looks so good. I can't wait to squeal like a teenager again.
But seong Hyun. Boy is too sweet. And his co-worker does like him. I liked that he confessed and let her be. Hoping he'll get the closure he needs.
And special thanks to Gamri halmeoni. I think her words helped du shik to go ahead. And Hye Jin confessing so clearly. Girl, you're my favourite in the show right now. And the villagers all asking about her now. Du shik getting jealous is always a riot.
This episode healed me from the last one. So I'll be rewatching this till the next fluffy one drops.
#hometown cha cha cha#kim seon ho#sin min ha#lee sang yi#pyo mi seon best gal#hye jin best girl#du shik best boy#seong hyun you'll be fine hopefully#gamri halmeoni you rock#the other love triangle people i hope it gets sorted soon#eun cheol and mi seon you two need to talk#i need fluff#they're so cute#stupid me thought there's 4 episodes left but it's actually 6 more#now I'm scared#but lmao they'll turn the serious stuff around to make me laugh#i just know#but still

To those that followed me for fics (especially drukkari…. Like it’s been a year and I haven’t updated SESD’s last chapter) I am so so sorry for my zero updates💀💀 once the school year ends I’ll be finishing up and posting (hopefully) most fics that’ve been sitting in my drafts for years which primarily include:
Starry Eyes, Stardusted Smiles — MCU’s Drukkari: Chapter 6 (final chapter)
MCU’s Drukkari: The promised fluff piece of them just waking up in the morning together and Makkari showering a slightly insecure Druig in affection
MCU’s Drukkari: Fic addressing the years after Tenochtitlan, Makkari visiting Druig in the Amazon and their evolution from friends to something more
Top Gun Maverick’s Hangster: Getting locked in the cockpit of a faulty plane together
Top Gun Maverick’s Hangster: Exes!Hangster find out they still wear each other’s dog tags and reconcile
Hometown Cha Cha Cha’s Hye Jin/Du Sik: 5 times Hye Jin calls Du Sik by other names, 1 time she calls him by his name (Canon divergence because I started writing it before the show finished)
Kinnporsche’s Kinn/Porsche: 5 times Kinn goes absolutely nuts over Porsche’s outfits but can’t express it openly, 1 time he finally tells Porsche (Canon divergence, also because I started it before the show ended)
Outer Banks’ JJ/Kiara: 5 times JJ confessed to Kiara, 1 time she finally believed him (wrote this for a friend after s1 but haven’t watched s2 so…)
Tenet’s Neil/Protagonist: Coffeeshop owner!Neil and his encounters with his regular customer who seems to be brimming with secrets (literally only wrote 2 paras for this but it IS a fic idea I had mapped out an entire plot for)
After School Lessons for Unripe Apples’ Mi Ae/Cheol: Saw the artist’s drawings of Mi Ae in high school with long hair and wanted to write a fic of Cheol basically going to the countryside for a holiday after middle school ends, them keeping in touch via letters, him refusing to admit that he misses her before deciding to return to the city to attend high school there and reuniting with Mi Ae, only to discover her new look (you can tell this is my fav webtoon at the moment lmao)
Enola Holmes’ Enola/Tewkesbury: Modern AU of part time florist!Tewkesbury who attempts to avoid inheriting his family’s corporation because all he wants to do is work with flowers, and either a barista or tattoo artist!Enola who teaches him to be unafraid to chase his dreams (It’s been sitting in my drafts since I finished enola 1 whoops)
MCU’s Spideychelle: Set after the events of Spider-Man NWH. How Peter falls in love with MJ all over again and how she relearns to love him again
Nevertheless’ Sol/Ji Wan: AU of them as strangers, where Ji Wan volunteers to model for an art class that Sol’s in and the latter kinda, maybe falls in love with the cute model who’s incessantly nice to everyone
Twenty Five Twenty One’s Hee Do/Yi Jin: Fix it fic of how they reunite in their 20s and relearn about this more matured, older version of one another, subsequently falling in love all over again
If anyone has any preferences for a specific fic they do want to be actually uploaded please feel free to drop a request in my asks!! Would be grateful for the help cos I’m kinda overwhelmed with the number of drafts I have and have no clue which one to start on first or prioritise lmao

Hometown Cha Cha Cha gets a 10/10 on showing real adults with real adult problems in relationships (romantic and platonic). I was happy with Hong Du Shik and Yoon Hye Jin’s relationship, but all the others too?
These writers were WRITING.
There are so many small moments between the characters that make this town really alive. I almost cried when when we found out why Yeo Hwa Jung divorced Jang Young Guk. Pyo Mi Seon falling for the bumbling and awkward Choi Eun Cheol and him being completely oblivious was just hilarious. I was ready to fight Choi Geum Cheol when he acted like he was super inconvenienced for taking care of his pregnant wife. All the characters are complete and add to the story rather than just fill space. I’m invested in them as much as I am in the leads.
In episode 13, Yoon Hye Jin needs to realize that she and Hong Du Shik may be in a relationship, they they are different people and he has every right to keep parts of himself to himself. I feel like so often people act like when you’re with someone, that person has to become a part of you and you should share everything. Everyone has a right to privacy and their own space no matter what the relationship is. Yoon Hye Jin might be a person who wants to share everything, but she can’t control whether anyone else does. Hong Du Shik hasn’t done anything to lose her trust, he’s only kept some details of his life to himself. How is that a problem? He doesn’t want to talk about it, so her options are to make her peace with that or leave.
Lastly, I’m dying to know who bought the winning lottery ticket and what they did with the money. If we don’t find out, I’ll riot.

Some of my favorite funny scenes on the show:
1) Everything in the “Did you just shoot me?” scene between Mi Seon and Eun Cheol. I love Mi Seon’s incognito look and her “I can’t see anything when she’s wearing sunglasses at nighttime. “Did you just shoot me?” is such an iconic line. And then there’s Eun Cheol, who is a police officer, pointing a gun at Mi Seon even if it’s fake.
2) Eun Cheol having Mi Seon believe she won the lottery only to be like “I read you last week’s numbers.” The way Mi Seon’s excitement just deflated was great.
3) Du Shik trying to teach Seong Hyun how to surf while Ji Won and Do Ha just give their commentary in the background was great.
4) All the petty, jealous Du Shik scenes. Dude was really taking food from Seong Hyun because he was jealous. And then I love the one after Du Shik is done fake dating Hye Jin and Seong Hyun is like “Is it over?” and then Du Shik, the little shit, says “Maybe it’s not” and then just leaves.
5) The whole “Let’s keep Hye Jin and Du Shik apart until they admit they’re dating to us” plot. It was hilarious how Hye Jin and Du Shik were acting like they were going to be reunited after a long separation, when they could have just told everyone and THEN THEY’D BE ABLE TO SPEND ALL THE TIME TOGETHER THAT THEY WANTED!!! I love Juri’s fake puking, the clip of Nam Suk poking her head up in the flashback (seriously that clip needs to be a meme), and Eun Cheol’s very excited reaction (like you would think that he was a little kid watching his separated parents get back together or something, lol).
6) Yun Gyeong giving birth was great. You have her pulling Geum Cheol’s hair while Geum Cheol and Hye Jin were like “Maybe don’t do that” only for Hye Jin to be like “Keep pulling the hair!” Also, Hye Jin telling Yun Gyeong in the truck that she took anatomy freshman year as a way to say she was somewhat competent to help deliver the baby was hilarious. One anatomy class and some advice from Gam Ri is not enough, lol.
7) Hye Jin bringing Juri the picture she took with June and then the pair of them making fun of Du Shik was great.
8) Bora manipulating Hye Jin into taking the hedgehog was so funny because you could just see the devious look on her face. Master manipulator Bora FTW.
9) I’ve already brought this scene up twice in other prompts, but Mat-yi yelling at the reckless driver. She used such clear imagery of what she wanted to do, lol.
Just a few, but there are obviously so many more hilarious scenes.

Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha. 갯마을 차차차. 8/10
I would recommend this drama to my friends. I would rewatch this drama.
I like Hong's smile, casual attitude, "okay", and fits. I also just think Kim Seon Ho is so cute and hot and beautiful. I like many people's fits.
Kind people wanting people to be kind is new to me. They care about being good and it's stirring something in me.
Uncovering truths and traumas about someone else is always moving.
Shin Min Ah literally looks the same as she did when I was a child.
Beating up the sexual assaulter was so fun. It was funny and badass. Du Sik was cute for caring. I loved how ruthless we were.
Yu Cho Hui is so kind. Ju ri is so funny.
Young Guk confessing to Cho Hui reminds me of smooth and round Spongebob.
The Holy Trinity comment bw Hong and Seong Hyun is funny. The drunken games between them are funny. I love their chemistry and relationship. Omfg at discovering that Eun Cheol and Geum Cheol are brothers.
I enjoyed the dynamic between Hye Jin and Du Sik after the confession. It was a lil cringe, but I thought it was cute. I like how Du Sik lovingly plays along with her being cutesy rather than super cringe and turn her away. I loved when Yun Kyung offered to buy Hye Jin a jjujjuba so that she could split her and Du Sik. I love Nam Sook and Hwa Jeong's relationship. Eun Cheol is so cute around Mi Seon. I love how forward Mi Seon is. I love the Yoon Dental logo. It's clever like the people in cha cha cha in the title logo. Lee Moon Sae's An Old Love, I love. Gongjin is so pretty. I do like the observatory area. I love Mi Seon and Hye Jin's relationship. We got each other's back, support/love/understand and know each other. Mi Seon is also so funny with her commentary about Hye Jin's life and is a great wingwoman by always leaving when men come. Mi Seon is honestly my fav character. I love Yi Jun. He's so polite and smart. Him watching Bora sing is the most beautiful thing. Bora really knowing Yi Jun and supporting him is also very beautiful. I love their relationship. When she came to him when he was crying, I love. I enjoyed the back hug scene with Yi jun's parents. When Du SIk put his colds hands on Hye Jin's hot cheeks, I got butterflies. I loved Du Sik hurrying to destroy the assaulter.
Du Sik realizing Hye Jin misses her mom made me tear. Hwa Jeong yelling before the divorce was so heartbreaking. Yun Gyeong's birth situation got me crying. I felt for her pain when she was yelling at her husband. I felt so sad when Bora was crying as well. All this empathy was too much for me. Gam Ri interacting with her family makes me so sad. I only wish I got to meet my grandparents. The elderly are very often not taken care of. I expected Gam Ri's death, but it was still so sad. To have a person like her around must be so beautiful. Everyone supporting and caring about Du Sik after he gets called out by Do Ha is so unreal to me. Especially Gam Ri and the food. It made me tear. It's so beautiful and I'm very jealous. I cried so much when Yi Jun cried.

All the dramas I’ve watched in 2020
These are all the dramas that I watched in 2020, with some review there should be NO Spoilers. I think I watched a lot more than usual probably because what else am I supposed to do between school and quarantine. So this is gonna be a long one...
Crash Landing on You (Lee Jung-hyo, 2019-2020)
Main Leads: Hyun Bin and Son Ye-jin
Episodes: 16, 70 to 110 Minutes
Thoughts: I enjoyed this drama, and it was a good one to start 2020 with. I thought it was a perfect blend of romance, comedy, heartfelt, found family, action, and some tragedy. I would highly recommend it, especially for those who are new to Kdramas. Also fun fact this is my first Hyun Bin drama. Rating: Fun and adorable
Tale of Nokdu (Kim Dong-hwi, 2019)
Main Leads: Jang Dong Yoon and Kim So Hyun
Episodes: 32, 35 minutes
Thoughts: I actually started watching this when it was airing but I stopped around episode 13 because of my busy schedule and finished it in the new year. I adore the main couple, the romance, comedy, the found family, and the women center story. I thought it shined the brightest when it was focused on the group and its funny and warm moments but once it got too political it kinda fell flat. I loved the ending, however. Also, I really like Jang Dong Young as an actor, I saw him in Solomon’s Perjury (2016) and Mr. Sunshine (2018) and I loved how he played Nok Du too. Rating: I love a women’s only widow village
I’ll Find You When The Weather is Nice (Han Ji-seung, 2020)
Main Leads: Seo Kang Joon and Park Min Young
Episodes: 16, 60 minutes
Thoughts: I really liked this drama, probably one of my favorites this year. As you will notice I enjoy quieter and more slow-burn stories. Also, I am a fan of Park Min Young she tends to pick more interesting and strong-willed female roles, so it is really enjoyable to watch. Rating: makes me want to own a book store.
King: The Eternal Monarch (Kim Eun-sook, 2020)
Main Leads: Lee Min Ho and Kim Go Eun
Episodes: 16, 70 Minutes
Thoughts: Confession; I am actually not the biggest fan of Lee Min Ho, nothing against him I just hate rich bratty characters and he tends to play them. However, I surprisingly really liked his character, he wasn’t a rich brat he actually was likable. I also really like Kim Go Eun, she is actually one of the main reasons why I watched and also with all the hype around it. Woo Do Hwan, who I have always liked, stole the whole show, however. I didn’t hate it like a lot of people, I really liked the characters, I liked the romance and the action. Also, Lee Min Ho and Kim Go Eun’s hugs were absolutely fabulous. It wasn’t my favorite and there were too many product placements, but I don’t think it was the worst drama this year. Rating: Lukewarm
A Piece of your mind (Lee Sang-yeob, 2020)
Main Leads: Jung Hae In and Chae Soo Bin
Episodes: 12, 70 minutes
Thoughts: I actually really liked this drama despite the low views, again I’m big on slow burn stories and character focus. I believe the episodes were cut from 16 to 12 I don’t know exactly why maybe because of the Pandemic or due to viewership or a mixture of both. Despite its being cut short I really liked the ending, and I thought the two leads were sweet. Rating: Wish we had more time to develop the characters.
Its Okay not to be Okay (Park Shin Woo, 2020)
Main Leads: Kim Soo Hyun and Seo Yea Ji and Oh Jung Se
Episodes: 16, 70 to 85 minutes
Thoughts: Out of all the dramas I talked the most about this one. I have always been a fan of Seo Yea Ji since Save Me (2017) and Lawless Lawyer (2018) and I am happy to see her getting more recognition because of this role. The entire cast was amazing and I think I cried every episode. Such a good and heart-wrenching drama which is why I chose to watch it before work every time. Rating: I would let Seo Yea Ji stab me with a knife anytime.
Mystic Pop up bar (Jeon Chang-geun, 2020)
Main Leads: Hwang Jung Eum and Yook Sung Jae and Choi Won Young
Episodes: 12, 70 minutes
Thoughts: I actually watched this while I was watching Its Okay Not to Be Okay and it was a nice balance to it because this was more of a found family story with less heartbreaking moments. Though it did have its share of heartbreak. I really liked all the characters and their relationship. Also, I am a sucker for bureaucratic fantasy/ magic, and kdramas are so good at it. Rating: I wish it was 16 episodes.
When the Camila Bloom (Cha Yeong Hoon, 2019)
Main Leads: Gong Hyo Jin and Kang Ha Neul
Episodes: 20, 63 to 75 minutes
Thoughts: I liked the story overall, the romance was cute and the mystery was interesting but I thought the family expectations was the best part of the story. This was not my favorite drama, but it was enjoyable and heartfelt. I watched it right after It's Okay Not to Be Okay and while I was watching Flower of Evil (2020) which probably is why I was so underwhelmed by it. Rating: Sweet romance and adorable found family.
Flower of Evil (Kim Cheol Kyu, 2020)
Main Leads: Lee Joon Gi and Moon Chae Won
Episode:16, 70 minutes
Thoughts: This was my favorite drama of this year. I went into this drama not thinking much of it, and I mainly watched it as a post drama blues drama. It was an action and thriller which I mainly don’t get attached to plus I am a huge fan of Lee Joon Gi. I should have known better, I cared so much about all the characters, the acting phenomenal, also every time they showed their hands I cried. This drama left me shriveled and empty inside. Rating: Lee Joon Gi will literally kill me one day.
Put Your Head On My Shoulders (Zhu Dongning, 2019)
Main Leads: Xing Fei and Lin Yi
Episodes: 24, 40 to 45 minutes
Thoughts: This is the first Chinese drama on this list. I thought it was cute, I liked the couple and thought it was alright. I started to dislike the male lead later in the series but it was overall fine. It was basic and sweet with very little drama. Rating: It did its job.
The School Nurse Files ( Lee Kyoung Mi, 2020)
Main Leads: Jung Yu Mi and Nam Joo Hyuk
Episodes: 6, 45 to 57 minutes
Thoughts: This is probably my second favorite drama. I couldn’t tell what happened in the drama but I loved it. I thought it was weird and fascinating, and just so magical. I loved the children and just how the whole school was just off its rocker. I also think that Nam Joo Hyuk does really well in serious roles, and I thought he did a really good job here. Rating: 1 jelly heart.
Mr. Heart (Park Sun Jae, 2020)
Main Leads: Cheon Seung Ho and Lee Se Jin
Episodes: 8, 11 Minutes
Thoughts: This was 8 episodes of start fluff and I adored it. Apparently, it is apart of a BL series by Park Sun Jae and there is a movie version that I haven’t watched. If you want to destress and watch just fluff this is the show for you. Rating: If it is any sweeter I would be going to the dentist.
You are My Destiny ( Ding Ying Zhou, 2020)
Main Leads: Xing Zhao Lin and Liang Jie
Episodes: 36, 45 minutes
Thoughts: I hated this drama, I thought it was the worst thing ever. I don’t know why I even watched all 36 episodes. Apparently, it is a remake of a popular 2008 Twaniese drama Fated to Love You and there is a Korean remake of it as well. I have watched neither of them, so I was brand new to this story. I hated, despised the male lead. He was whiny, entitled, and an asshole. The only good part of the drama was the male and female lead actually had a lot of chemistry, unfortunately, they are playing awful characters. Rating: This was made in 2020???
First Romance (Ding Pei, 2020)
Main Leads: Wan Peng and Riley Wang
Episodes: 24, 45 Minutes
Thoughts: This is another Chinese drama. Similar to Mr. Heart (2020) this show was super fluffy. I really liked the main couple they seem to respect each other and they both had adorable crushes on each other. I loved the whole dumb jock and dumb artist dynamic it was so funny. Rating: Cute!!!
Lost Romance ( Eri Hao, 2020)
Main Leads: Marcus Chang and Vivian Sung
Episodes: 20, 70 minutes
Thoughts: This is the only Twainese drama on this list. I think I liked this drama, I actually only remember very little of this drama. I like the CEO in the real world more than the book world, and I also really liked the female lead except she lowkey stalked the CEO like that was not okay. Rating: I think I liked it???
When We Were Young ( Deng Ke, Liu Guo Hui, 2018)
Main Leads: Neo Hou and Wan Peng and Gala Zhang and Pan Mei and Ye Marcus Li
Episodes: 24, 45 minutes
Thoughts: I really liked this film, I loved all the characters and thought it was all very heartfelt. I cried like a baby, and Hua Biao was such a touching and relatable character. And the whole grandma story hit so close to home. Rating: Made me cry like a baby.
Moment of 18 ( Sim Na Yeon, 2019)
Main Leads: Ong Seong Wu and Kim Hyang Gi
Episodes: 16, 70 minutes
Thoughts: I really liked this drama, and I thought the romance was so cute. I also really liked the relationship between the moms and was sad that the rich mom was a bitch and ruined the friendship. I also wasn’t a big fan of the ending, but I loved the rest of it. Rating: The main lead is part of a boy group because he had a random singing moment.
Perfect and Casual ( Li Shuang, 2020)
Main Leads: Miles Wei and Xu Ruo Han
Episodes: 24, 45 minutes
Thoughts: This is another Chinese drama on this list. I’m pretty sure it's considered an Idol drama so that sets your expectations. I really liked this drama a lot, I am a big fan of contract marriages and I thought the leads were so cute together. Also, this is the first contract marriage drama where the leads don’t break up which I like. A lot of the drama came from outside of the relationship. Rating: You can’t analyze love.
Le Coup De Foudre ( Wang Zhi, 2019)
Main Leads: Janice Wu and Zhang Yujian
Episodes: 35, 45 minutes
Thoughts: My favorite Chinese drama on this list. I loved this drama, I thought it was sweet and simple and the main couple was so realistic. Unpopular opinion I disliked the second couple and the best friend I thought she was annoying and brattish. However, I adore the main couple and their relationship. Rating: Realistic sweet romance.
More Than Friends ( Choi Sung Bum, 2020)
Main Leads: Ong Seong Wu and Shin Ye Eun
Episodes: 16, 70 minutes
Thoughts: I enjoyed the overall story and characters. I loved the group and their relationships. Also, Young-Hee made me cry, and her relationship with Hyun Jae was so sweet. The main leads were also sweet, and I related a lot to Lee So. I just didn’t like the back and forth. Rating: How many times can we break up in a drama.
Be With You ( Zhou Miao, 2020)
Main Leads: Ji Xiao Bing and Zhang Ya-Qin
Episodes: 24, 45 minutes
Thoughts: This is the last Chinese drama I watched this year. It was alright, the romance was sweet, I really like the female lead, and the male lead was nice to look at. It was okay. Also, the second couple was so ??? She was his boss, enemy, and older than him, what?? Rating: Sometimes you need to fall in love to be creative.
Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo ( Kim Kyu Tae, 2016)
Main Leads: Lee Joon Gi and Lee Ji Eun (IU)
Episodes: 20, 60 minutes
Thoughts: I know I am really late watching this, but I finally did. I went in knowing this would hurt me and Lee Joon Gi already scared me this year ( damn this man) so I was fully prepared. I really wasn’t, it so much. (SPOIlERS) When Wang Eun and Park Soon Deok died I sob like a baby (SPOILER ENDING). It took me a long time to finish this show because its heart so much, like it physically hurt me. The show was really good, and heartbreaking, and the ending stabs me in the heart 20 times. Rating: Lee Joon Gi is trying to kill me with tears.
Persona ( Lee Kyoung Mi, Yim Pil Sung, Jeon Go Woon, and Kim Jong Kwan, 2019)
Main Leads: Lee Ji Eun (IU)
Episodes: 4, 19 to 27
Thoughts: This is a collection of mini-films by directors. 4 separate stories are starring Lee Ji Eun. I thought all of them good, especially “ Kiss Burn” and “Walking at Night.” There isn’t much else to this, more than it is an artistic display of filmmaking. Rating: Hipster Kdrama
Come and Hug Me ( Choi Joon-bae, 2018)
Main Leads: Jang Ki-Yong and Jin Ki-Joo
Episodes: 32, 35 minutes
Thoughts: I actually just finished this show today. I really liked it, I thought it was both sweet and heartwarming/wrenching. I hated that one journalist and the public like why are they blaming a victim. I didn’t watch it with my full mind because I’ve been distracted lately, but I did enjoy it. Rating: another cute but sad couple.
Movies I watched this year:
Spell Bound ( Hwang In Ho, 2011)
Main Cast: Son Ye Jin and Lee Min Ki
Running Time: 114 Minutes
Thoughts: I watched this at like 12 am after a bad day and it was cute. I love RomCom fantasy, which I think Korean media does really well. I don’t know what else to say except it is a really cute romance. Rating: Is it the ghost or the butterflies
The Host ( Bong Joon Ho, 2006)
Main Cast: Song Kang Ho and Byun Hee Bong and Park Hae Il and Bae Doona and Go, Ah Sung
Running Time: 119
Thoughts: This film I had to actually watch for class. It was a really good film which is expected from Bong Joon Ho. I love monster films and I thought this was a good rendition of this film. Also, The monster was so cool especially from 2006. I thought it was heartbreaking, stirring, and so beautifully shot. Rating: Oscar-worthy Direction
Little Forest ( Yim Soon-rye, 2018)
Main Cast: Kim Tae Ri and Ryu Jun Yeol and Moon So Ri and Jin Ki Joo
Running Time: 103 minutes
Thoughts: I really, really liked this film. It reminded me so much of I’ll Find You When The Weather is Nice (2020) that I thought that it was based on this film but it isn’t. I have watched this film 3 times since October and every time I watch it have made bread. I really just love everything about this film, how quiet it is, the cinematography, the acting, just everything. Rating: Three loaves of bread.
Always ( Song Il Gon, 2011)
Main Cast: So Ji Sub and Han Hyo Joo
Running Time: 106 Minutes
Thoughts: I thought it was okay, I watched it while I was knitting so I was distracted a bit. But I thought the couple was sweet, and the characters were interesting. Rating: It's Okay.
Currently watching
True Beauty ( Kim Sang-hyeop, 2020-)
Main Cast: Moon Ga Young and Cha Eun Woo and Hwang In Yeop
Episodes: 16, 70 minutes
Thoughts: This is currently an ongoing series that is actually really popular. Apparently, it is based on a webtoon, which I haven’t read. I like it so far, I always liked Moon Ga Young and I think she is a great actress. She plays Im Ju Kyung in a likable and insecure way, instead of someone annoying which could easily happen. I will be continuing watching. Rating so far: Okey dokey yo.
Live On ( Kim Sang-woo, 2020-)
Main Cast: Jung Da Bin and Hwang Min Hyun
Episodes: 8?, 60 Minutes
Thoughts: I really Like this show. The main couple is sweet and supportive. I really like the female lead, I like that she is cold and kinda quiet, but with a sweet spot if you are not a dick. I really like the main relationship conflict comes from friendship instead of romance, I think it makes the show more interesting. Rating: I want to Join a Broadcast group.
On My List:
I actually don’t have anything else on my list so if anyone has recommendations please tell me. I am thinking about watching Mr. Queen ( 2020) because I really like Shin Hye Sun. I also want to watch Sweet Home (2020) the Netflix series. But please recommend me some dramas!!!
This is such a long list, and I had fun doing it and going back over all the dramas. I hope everyone has a good New year and that we will have many more good dramas in 2021!

A few thoughts about ep 7 of The Good Detective.
Lee Dae Cheol is making me cry. Or rather his love for his daughter and his anger at the world for failing him is making me cry. You can literally split your head open when protesting your innocence but it may not count, depending on the amount of money and influence backing you. And if you have none, then your fate is in the hands of someone who may or not give two shits.
I'm little confused as to how I should perceive Oh Jeong Tae. I know he's got something shady going on and is vindictive and cruel, but the man also spends time talking to a painting. One thing for sure, it's definitely not love if you murder the person who seems to have made an impact at you. That's more of an obsession.
But at the same time, it's interesting to watch him thrown down a gauntlet. There's no saying what he'll do. He's very much a powerful loose canon, something Ji Hyeok has mentioned. But I wonder who is he without all that power? How much of his personality is influenced by the influence he weilds? Also the Congress man and the newspaper fellow thought they could keep him down or make him stay quiet? You clearly thought wrong, you dumbasses.
The pimp - Hong Du, I would like someone to throw him down the stairs. And at the same time, I do recognise that his cruelty and casual violence is a consequence of his environment which shapes the way he reacts. For every small fish, there is some bigger fish. And when the big fishes press their foots on the necks of the small fish, the small fish react by hurting other smaller fish. I've taken this fish analogy too far. I cannot stop. But he's not just profiting from someone's misery. He's infact enjoying it. So yes, I would like to see him fall off a cliff or something
Ji Hyeok in the sauna with his Princess Leia towel buns. I was screeching.
The way Seo Kyeong confronts things head on, but not in a bull in a china shop kind of way. She's not the intrepid reporter who's willing to raze through a forest to get what she wants. Instead, she's so logical in her approach and so matter of fact. The woman put away the corrupt prosecutor and when he dangles an interesting fact in front of her, she accepts the bait but also astutely questions his motivations. Also like Do Chang, she seems to have that ear for a story or a inconspicuous fact that just does not fit in. Ji Hyeok is dismissive of her abilities at first and she correctly calls him out on it (I wish she had been more harsh). And what is more, this is not the first time she's had men question her competence. She just gives it no thought because any time spent on thinking about some dumbass man and his dumbass comments is an absolute waste of time. But she lets Ji Hyeok know because he's just talking out of his bum.
Ji Hyeok is stuck in that state between knowing what needs to be done, but not knowing how to do it. He is a competent cop. But it's that lack of the social element in his detecting that's holding him back and probably not helping him find fulfillment. Like the job is all he has but because there is zero emotion involved, there's zero emotional resolution as well. It's nice to see him start to soften now, or at least, be less idk, rigid. Also, I live how reckless both he and Do Chang are. They have nothing to lose and they don't mind even. It's like a pair of bad pennies got together and have begun making chaos.
Newspaper man and his brother can walk off a bridge thanks. It's interesting how ambition warps you. At first it's a goal and then it becomes an all consuming vision. Anything that gets in the way must be eliminated. That's the taste of power I guess. Once a certain type of person gets a taste of it, very soon it leads them down a completely unexpected path. It may look like their goal, but that road is long gone. To see the politician monologuing about his career is so annoying. Please take your ambitions and go elsewhere.
How many metaphors is too many metaphors? Idk. But this is not the last you have seen of them 😎
