Hey everyone. Anyone on tumblr familiar with ventilation? The photo above is focusing on the box with the black and red latch. Does anyone know what that is? It’s currently making horrible jackhammer noises in my office building, and I am very uncomfortable because I’m sitting almost directly underneath it.
Clearly it shouldn’t be making a jackhammer noise. But is the noise something dangerous and should I not be in this office? 90% of the time I work remotely, and it’s 1.5hr drive to my office. I won’t drive in until it’s fixed if it’s dangerous.
Thanks!

got approved for a rental house and will finally be able to move out of this god awful apartment, but the whole process makes me so angry. like moving costs alone are expensive but it’s also all of the unnecessary added fees they tack on. the concert ticket thing is the big discussion but housing application fees? convenience fees for processing a card? like anything extra they can squeeze out of you on top of too expensive rent it’s fucking insane. people can barely (not really) even afford 3x rent, and it’s getting to the point that you need three incomes just to afford one place. like this whole process has made me so angry, and i’ve been angry about it for a long time, of course. but also just looking around and seeing just how many houses are for rent, that aren’t going toward families bc these investors and venture capitalists continue to buy up houses. i genuinely want to know how any of this is going to be sustainable, even within the next three-to-five years.
#before i got my new job there was no way we'd ever really be able to move even with 2 salaries#the rent is 'cheap' where we are only bc we've been here for 11 years#but the issue is that they haven't maintained the place and we've had to fight management to deal with mold#and im pretty sure the HVAC system is fucked bc the bill for it is fucking insane like it should not be that much a month#but ofc they won't do anything about that either bc why not#im so happy to be out of here next month but it really means putting us in a paycheck-to-paycheck situation#instead of having just a small amount of cushion#all of this makes me so angry that all of us have to deal with sub-par conditions#this also means there's no chance for me to try and save for a house#not that i ever though that would be in my reach but at least that money would be in savings#im just venting about this bc im also made that the area i grew up in wasn't ever this expensive#and with ppl moving here bc it's 'cheap' has driven up pricing and gentrified everything

The Most Common Repairs for Residential HVAC Systems
Residential HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) systems are essential to any home, as they help maintain a comfortable and healthy indoor environment. However, like any other mechanical system, HVAC systems can develop problems over time, and regular maintenance and repairs are necessary to ensure they function efficiently. Here are some of the most common repairs for residential HVAC systems:
Common repairs for residential HVAC systems
Dirty or Clogged Air Filters
Air filters filter dust, debris, and other particles from the air before it is circulated through the HVAC system. If the filters become dirty or clogged, they can reduce the system's efficiency and even cause it to shut down. Regular filter replacement or cleaning is necessary to prevent this problem.
Refrigerant Leaks
Refrigerant is the substance that cools the air in your HVAC system. If there is a leak in the refrigerant line, the system cannot cool the air properly. This problem requires a professional technician to locate and repair the leak and recharge the system with the appropriate amount of refrigerant.
Thermostat Issues
A malfunctioning thermostat can cause the HVAC system to turn on and off at the wrong times or not turn on at all. A technician can diagnose and repair problems with the thermostat.
Electrical Problems
Faulty electrical connections, such as loose wires, can cause the HVAC system to malfunction or not turn on at all. An experienced technician can identify and repair electrical problems.
Dirty or Clogged Condenser Coil
The condenser coil is responsible for releasing the heat from the refrigerant outside the home. If it becomes dirty or clogged, it can reduce the efficiency of the system and even cause it to shut down. Regular cleaning is necessary to prevent this problem.
Blower Motor Problems
The blower motor is responsible for circulating the air through the HVAC system. If it malfunctions, the system cannot distribute the air properly. A technician can diagnose and repair problems with the blower motor.
Compressor Issues
The compressor compresses the refrigerant and pumps it through the system. If it malfunctions, the HVAC system cannot cool the air. This problem requires a professional technician to diagnose and repair it.
Regular maintenance and repairs are essential to keep your residential HVAC system functioning efficiently and reliably. If you suspect that your HVAC system has a problem, it's important to contact a qualified technician to diagnose and repair the issue promptly.

The furnace requires about 15 minutes to reach your desired temperature. But if your furnace stops right after you turn on the switch, it’s probably happening because of some furnace blower motor malfunction. Whyyyy is my apartment flooding 😭
#ranntics#it's mostly handled now but it's a plumbing issue so I'm scared to use water.....#it's not coming from the bathroom at least. we think it's the washing machine#which sucks bc we used alllllll of our towels to mop up the water#we did a spin cycle and put them in the dryer but..... it's not good 😬#I can't even shower. or wash my clothes. which were in a hamper that got soaked by the water pouring from the HVAC closet.#whyyyyyyy#it has stopped for now but we don't want to let our guard down bc..... who knows if it's actually over!!#it happened on and off and the first time it happened we weren't using any water at all in our unit#which means it could be coming from other units and we can't control what they do

Simplifying HVAC Repair: Understanding Common Problems and Solutions
A Guide to HVAC Issues
HVAC issues - they're every homeowner's worst nightmare. Unexpected issues can leave you in a chilly home in the middle of winter or a scorching house during the summer. But fear not - some common HVAC issues can be resolved simply by cleaning filters and coils. However, other problems might need more significant repairs and servicing.
Understanding the Importance of Clean Filters and Coils
○ Filters: The role of filters in an HVAC system cannot be overstated. They trap and hold all particulates and contaminants that would otherwise circulate through your home. When these filters become dirty or clogged, the HVAC system has to work harder, causing a drop in efficiency and increasing your energy costs. Regular cleaning or replacement of filters can often solve this problem.
○ Coils: An HVAC system has two types of coils: evaporator coils that absorb heat and humidity from the air, and condenser coils that expel the collected heat outside your home. When these coils are dirty, they cannot effectively transfer heat, and the system’s efficiency drops significantly. Regular cleaning of the coils can restore your system's performance.
Cases When Extensive Servicing is Necessary
While cleaning filters and coils can solve many basic issues, some problems require more comprehensive HVAC servicing. Here are some scenarios where a professional service is recommended:
• Refrigerant Leaks: A central HVAC system uses refrigerant to cool your home. If your system is low on refrigerant, it's likely because there's a leak. Detecting and fixing these leaks is a job for a trained HVAC professional.
• Motor Issues: HVAC systems have several motors that can wear out over time or due to stress from a dirty filter or coil. If your HVAC system's performance has lagged recently, it might be because of a failing motor. Professional help is necessary for diagnosing and repairing motor issues.
• Thermostat Problems: If your HVAC system isn't heating or cooling your home properly, the issue might be with the thermostat. In such a case, professional diagnosis and adjustment or replacement can ensure your home is comfortable again.
By understanding these common HVAC issues and solutions, homeowners can ensure their system runs efficiently and address minor hiccups before they escalate into more significant problems. However, professional intervention is the safest and most effective course of action for complex troubles that cannot be solved merely by cleaning filters or coils.
