i hated easy when it first came out (especially the choreo, it somehow felt super out of place) but the more ive been forced to hear it everywhere the less it sucks. i think the main problem of it was that it just came as a shock, i hadnt heard any of the teasers or really seen any promotional stuff (aside from that video of eunchae tripping that was everywhere for 2 weeks straight) so i was just super confused when i heard it for the first time because of how different it was to unforgiven or anti-fragile. i still have my gripes with the choreo (im not gonna get into that now, otherwise this post would turn into an essay) and the goddam recorder sounding that in the back but i dont hate it anymore. its def not the best song on the album, smart (which shouldve been the tt) and swan song are both masterpieces that will be on repeat for the next month straight

“you’ve got to be kidding me.” is the first thing that yunjin said when the leader of lesserafim walked into the car sitting right between her and yn with a smile on her face.

“what was that?” chaewon asked while she leaned against yn’s shoulder who was rubbing her eyes with a pink blanket wrapped around her from being woken up about 15 minutes ago.

“oh nothing.” yunjin says before taking a peek at yn who proceeds to put headphones on and turn up the volume of the music on her phone to the point that you can hear it through the headphones before closing her eyes and resting her head on chaewon’s shoulder.

yunjin clears her throat before looking at chaewon, “what are you doing here?” she asks as the car starts.

chaewon smiles, “what do you mean?” she asks innocently, “I’m supposed to be here, I’m the leader it’s my duty to accompany you guys to these things for support.”

yunjin narrows her eyes at chaewon’s obvious bullshit before turning her head and looking at the window, watching the rain fall, this is going to be a long morning.

chaewon eyes widened when she saw yn in the white dress, a smile made its way to her face only to be wiped off immediately when she sees the taller girl walking behind yn in a white dress as well.

she walks over to the two girls with a faux smile on her face, “you look so pretty!” she exclaimed gesturing towards the dresses. “you look like a princess.”

“I look like a ready to be wife.” chaewon's smile faltered, feeling a pang of jealousy that yunjin was the person that got to do something like this with yn.

it should be my wife.

“well, we should get to set.” yunjin says budding in on their moment, she smiles when chaewon gives her a sharp glare.

“oh yeah, let’s go.” yn says, she links her arm with chaewon’s as the girls walk together their manager’s following not too far behind, “I wish you were doing this with us, I love doing photoshoots with you, it reminds be of iz*one.”

chaewon smiles at yn’s words before looking behind to through yunjin a smile who just rolls her eyes and turns to their manager to start a conversation.

“remember when they paired us for everything? I miss that.” yn says smiling sadly at the memories, “now all they do is pair me with yunjin who’s my ready to be wife.” she jokes referring to their outfits.

it’s now chaewon’s turn to roll her eyes she looks behind to see yunjin smiling, ugh.

“honestly I wish the dress was pink, imagine a pink wedding dress?” yn rambles who chaewon who just looks at her with heart eyes as she rants.

“you should wear that to your wedding in the future.” she replies hopefully ours she thinks to herself.

“I’ve honestly never thought about a wedding.” yn says softly, “but the again when do I ever? the farthest I’ve thought is when I get my oscar.”

as they arrived at the set, yn and yunjin were greeted by the bustling activity of the photoshoot. makeup artists and stylists hurried around, putting the finishing touches on the set and the girls' outfits.

chaewon stood off to the side, her gaze shifting between yn and yunjin as they prepared for the photoshoot. she listened absently to the manager discussing their schedules for the next week, her mind preoccupied with thoughts of yn and yunjin.

both yunjin and yn are instructed to lay in the set of the flowers that compliment the dresses, yunjin makes a joke as they lay down which makes everyone laugh well everyone except for chaewon.

“it wasn’t that funny.” she says loud and clear causing everyone to laugh even more, the funny part is that she’s being dead serious.

as fast as the shoot started it ended even faster.

chaewon walked over to yn and yunjin patting both of their shoulders, she patted yunjin’s with more force causing the girl to flinch and rub her now sore shoulder.

“let’s go.” the leader says linking her arms with yn and walking towards the van

chaewon drags yn with her as they make their way into the van, chaewon grabs a blanket that was on the seat and places it over yn’s and her’s legs.

yunjin entered the van not to long after them, “fans are going to go crazy over this shoot.” she starts, pausing to look at yn and chaewon covered in the blanket, before flashing chaewon a smug smile.

“fans go crazy over anything.” chaewon says brushing off yunjin’s comment while looking at yn phone who scrolls through youtube before putting on her headphones probably intentionally tuning out everything around her.

yunjin called yn’s name and didn’t get a response, all she could hear was the blasting video coming from the girls phone, she internally smiled and immediately shot chaewon an accusing look, “okay you can throw away the innocent stuff, why did you come?”

chaewon side eyed yunjin and looked out the window, “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“are you serious?” yunjin says, “when have you ever attended a photoshoot for leader duties, this was just another one of your ways to get between yn and I.”

yunjin’s last sentence almost had chaewon jumping over yn to tussle with the girl, “there’s nothing between you and yn to get in between.”

yunjin opens her mouth to respond but is cut short by chaewon’s rage, “are really stupid enough to think that you and yn have something? I’m embarrassed for you.”

yunjin tenses at the girls tone but doesn’t back down, “well we have to have something for a creative director to request for a shoot for wedding style dresses.” she responds back quickly only to flinch at chaewon’s laugh.

“do you really wanna play this game right now?” chaewon asks seriously, yunjin furrows her eyebrows because this is the most serious she’s seen the leader, “you may like yn, but your like for her will never amount to mine, you’ve had your fun but it’s time to back off.”

there’s silence for a second the only thing filling the van is the music from the radio and the sounds from the headphones, yunjin swallows thickly, “I will not back off, I’m not like all the other people you’ve scared away.”

this another few seconds of silence.

“okay.”

there was a chilling vibe to the leader’s words. yunjin should feel relieved at chaewon’s calm response to her own , so why does she feel nervous?

yunjin shook you awake, but you groaned and pulled the covers back over your shoulders.

"y/n..." she whined. you could tell she was pouting by the tone of her voice.

deciding not to make her wait any longer since she seemed so keen on getting you awake, you peeled the white comforter off your body and sat up. as you thought, your girlfriend was standing next to the bed with a big, sad pout on her lips. and of course, she was flashing you her infamous puppy dog eyes. as much as you loved your beauty sleep, you loved yunjin even more, so you could never be mad at her and her (adorably) dumb puppy eyes for waking you up.

you rubbed your eyes, attempting to get the sleepiness out before speaking. "what is it, jen?"

"i have a surprise for you! so get ready, we're gonna go out, please?"

she took your hands in hers, giving them a squeeze before pulling you out of bed without waiting for an answer. you followed her to the closet without much resistance, where she quickly handed you one of her favorite sweatshirts and a pair of washed-out jeans.

yunjin left for you to change, and when you entered the bathroom you're alone with your thoughts as you slipped into the clothes she picked for you and got ready.

you and yunjin had met in a rather intriguing way. you had reserved a private room at the library to study, and she barged in, out of breath and wide eyes.

(you were well into your study session, soft lofi playing into your headphones. you had a quiz in bio coming up, and you were not about to fail unlike your friend yizhuo who slept in class all the time. she was always a mystery to you anyway; always at parties, always getting drunk, and never paying attention in class. regardless, she was still your best friend, you two having met back in high school. you stopped her antics when it got too far, and she showed you how to truly live life and have fun.

"peristalsis is similar to propulsion where the food is moving through the system," you muttered to yourself, jotting the words down into your notebook, glancing at your laptop screen which showed the recorded lecture from last week.

you were about to unpause the lecture to try to catch more things you missed until the door burst open, revealing a girl who you recognized as the cute barista at the cafe you frequented on campus. she was leaning on the door panting, her hands on her knees as her gaze redirected from the door she just slammed to you, a sheepish smile making its way to her face.

"hi," she breathed out.

you tilted your head. "hi?"

she grabbed a plastic bottle from her bag and took a few gulps of water, letting out a relieved sigh after hydrating herself. she turned to face you.

"i'm so sorry for interrupting you. i'm yunjin, by the way, but you can call me jen."

amused, you pulled out a chair for her, gesturing for her to take a seat, to which she grinned and thanked you for before sitting down.

"it's not a problem," you reassured her, "why'd you do it though?"

her cheeks flushed, and she looked away briefly. 'cute,' you think.

"well, long story short... i lost a bet against one of my friends," she giggled, "and was trying to escape from my fate.")

you two hit it off after that, and soon you had started waiting for yunjin's shift to end so you could see her. after numerous ranting sessions with yizhuo and after 4 months, she was now your girlfriend. it's now been 8 months and you think it's safe to say she's the best you've ever had.

a loud clattering of what seemed to be things falling to the ground followed by an "i'm okay!" from yunjin woke you from your train of recollection. grabbing your phone, you exited the connected bathroom and opened the bedroom door to see the girl you were just thinking about, surrounded by a few books that have fallen to the floor.

"...oops?" she laughed, picking the fallen books up and putting them back onto the shelf. "ready to go, y/nnie?"

interlocking your hands, you nodded and let her lead you out of your shared apartment and to her car. it was still dark outside. she opened the door for you, then going around to the driver's seat and putting on a playlist you two made, titled 'youngluv' with a heart at the end.

the car ride was spent in comfortable silence, her hand over yours on the armrest. you asked where you were going once, and all she replied with was, "you'll see."

after a good 15 minutes, yunjin parked the car and opened the door for you once again. you followed her to the trunk where you're met with a picnic basket and blanket.

"surprise!"

you gasped, looking to your girlfriend, who only had a cheeky grin on her face.

"jen, what's this for?" you asked, worrying that you forgot an anniversary or a birthday.

she hummed in response. "nothing, really. i just felt like it. and i thought you'd like it."

"you're so sweet, jen. i love it," you say, grabbing the blanket from the car. yunjin got the basket. your eyes softened when she looked towards you with bright eyes.

you both carried the things from the car to a nice grassy spot overlooking the sea. the blanket is spread and you set the basket on top of the soft fabric. yunjin ran back to the car and retrieved a bouquet of flowers from the backseat, presenting it to you with a bright smile.

she bowed dramatically. "for you, m'lady."

"why, thank you kind miss," you giggled, taking the flowers and smelling them. "they're beautiful."

"only the best for my one and only."

you laughed, eyes crinkling up into crescents, and yunjin takes a second to admire your smile.

"i only receive the best from my knight in shining armor!"

you set the flowers down while yunjin took out tupperware containers out from the basket. she opens them one by one, allowing you to see what she's packed for the day. your eyes sparkled at the cut strawberries, and you almost drooled at the sight of your favorite sandwiches made by yunjin.

"does it look good?" she asked. you brought your attention to the girl, who picked up a piece of strawberry and holds it up to your lips.

"it does," you say, your mouth automatically opened and she feeds it to you.

the sweetness of the fruit was a welcome surprise to your taste buds. you haven't had anything since you were abruptly woken up, and the fruit was a nice way to wash out the minty flavor of your toothpaste.

you squeal at the taste, and take another piece of strawberry to feed to your lover.

"wow. i think that's the best strawberry i've ever had, seriously."

"you're lying."

"i'm not!"

you're in the middle of taking a bite of your sandwich when yunjin nudges your shoulder. raising your eyebrow, you follow her pointed finger and widen your eyes at the sight of the sunrise.

in awe, you put down your sandwich and turned to watch the sky being painted varying shades of red, orange, and yellow.

"the sun looks like an egg yolk," the older girl stated. you smiled and nudged her shoulder. she returned your smile and tried to defend herself. "what? i'm right. it looks like a sunny side up egg."

"you're right," you say, and lean your head on her shoulder. "it does look like an egg."

yunjin rests her head on top of yours. "do you know why i woke you up so early and prepared all this?"

you shook your head. she hummed.

"i remember you telling me about this dream you had. i think it was after our three month anniversary."

("morning, jen."

"good morning, sunshine! sleep well?"

you hugged the girl from behind, wrapping your arms around her waist from where she was standing at the kitchen counter. she was brewing a cup of coffee for the two of you for the morning.

"yeah. i had a dream," you said.)

"you said, 'we went on a picnic, and we were feeding each other strawberries. you also packed those sandwiches of yours that i love, and we sat there just watching the sunrise. it was really sweet, i'd love to have that in real life too.'"

you turned your gaze to yunjin. "you remember all that? word for word?"

she fed you another piece of strawberry to close your gaping mouth, and nodded. "i've been planning it for months, waiting for a free space in our schedules for this."

confused, you get up from her shoulder when she reaches for a small box in the picnic basket you thought was empty. when she opens the box in front of you, you let out a gasp of astonishment.

inside were a pair of silver rings, engraved with your initials and the date of the day you first met on the inside.

"yunjin, these are..." she interrupted you, "promise rings."

"i wanted to make this date perfect, so i contacted one of my old friends whose family owns a jewelry store, and got these custom made for us. aren't they amazing?"

you looked into her deep, brown eyes, and took the ring engraved with your initials and slipped it onto her ring finger.

"they're gorgeous, my love."

she gleamed, and slipped the other ring onto your ring finger.

"i'm glad you like them."

you rested your head back onto yunjin's shoulder and interlocked your fingers together.

the rest of the morning was spent finishing all the snacks your girlfriend packed, and taking pictures of each other and the scenery around you, laughs and kisses shared under the golden sunlight shining upon the two of you.

if one was focusing enough, one might be able to see two glints of rings shining from the distance.

“yn unnie I love watching my demon, im so proud o f you.” yn reads before letting out a squeal and turning to chaewon and yunjin, “they don’t like the show.” she points at them accusingly.

both chaewon and yunjin jump up in defence shouting in over each other as yn glares at them.

“we like the show.” yunjin says explaining to the fans but yn looks away dramatically.

“we just don’t think dohee and guwon should be together.” chaewon adds, “and some scenes are unnecessary.” she says a little more quietly to herself that fans couldn’t hear but yunjin could and nodded rapidly in agreement.”

“attack them.” yn demands the comments, the fans immediately listen to the girl, attacking the two other members.

“every colour is your colour.” yunjin responds putting her arm around the restless girl as the host announces the next game, chaewon side eyes them clearing her throat.

“it’s hot in both ways, im sticky, im in this ugly red, i don’t like running-” the girls rant gets cut off when her name is shouted asking her to come in the middle.

yn turns to chaewon with pout but the leader just laughs as taps the girls cheek as yn groans and walks into the middle coming face to face with yeonjun.

“you two will be doing a staring contest.” the host starts, “so yn you’re gonna have to take off those nice looking sunglasses.”

“staring is a sport?” the girl asks sassily as people laugh at her obvious dislike for this hybe caterers thing it was amusing to all of the groups.

“in this it is.”

yn groans and turns to look at members who laugh at the girls distress especially eunchae and sakura.

she brings the glasses to rest on the top of her head and stands closer to the txt member fixing her gaze on him.

he steps closer to her as well, a little too close for two certain girls comfort.

“im not liking this.” yunjin whispers to the leader who nods in agreement.

“are staring contests supposed to this close?” chaewon says out loud causing people to laugh be she was being dead serious.

003: to you who saved my 2023.

"if this guy stays in my life, then please let it be so."

this line still matters to this day, and bold of me to say it as an understatement, but one person can really change the course of things. among all the people i met this past year - they’re one of those who made me the happiest, and are one of those reasons why I'm still around. again, who knew 10 months would make an impact?

to the person who i got closer to after 2 nights at the harbourfront in my happy place, and who casually said “are you ready to get to know me?”. of course i was, and i was thankful for the trust. the next days, we ended up walking around my favorite city in the world hand in hand talking about the little things and laughs, which made that place and trip so much more meaningful.

to the person who constantly gives the best hugs that are like a ball of warmth and sunshine, a safe space that feel like home incarnate - a hug meant that i was home in their arms, i was safe, protected, and i can cry in peace.

to the person who'd be by my side - physically to hold my hand to make me feel at ease, and give me a forehead kiss and back hug to remind me I was loved, and virtually by making sure i'd sleep easy at night amid thunder and lightning and the dark thoughts in my head - who’d listen to me cry, rant and just laugh at everything under the sun.

to the person who I call my Sully - this person’s nickname on my phone which i never changed since they bought that pouch in HK, and that cuddly blue monster, scary when mad, but a literal softie i'd love to cling on for dear life knowing i'd feel safe.

to the person who is my solitude through thick, thin, and otherwise - who'd take me out after a long day for a meal, drinks, and drives, and who I want to protect and take care of with every fiber of my being (until now). I still have the Pooh they gave me, and I too protect that with every fiber of my being.

admittedly these past few weeks have been a true test of my best friendship with that person, it broke and breaks my heart that things turned cold, that we weren't able to fix this, to be in that same space we were months ago.

but you know, what's funny is as i type this i'm back to the place we first met, and below is my view. the gang was there (which I was honestly scared of), and the air… well still felt different. If I were to be absolutely honest, it’s been different since August - when that person stopped working there - there’s no one randomly back hugging me out of nowhere, or with random exchanges saying, "hey, love. you got this.", and look, I dunno if they already know but that's why I stopped going there during the daytime, and why I’m there at night more - they weren't around to bug me and make my day easier.

it really made me miss that person, what we had, and specifically how we hated not talking to each other for a day or 2. i regret getting so angry with them, when they really were just looking out for me, and it's on me for thinking they were heartless, while I was being an emotional wreck.

(Editor’s note: I tried my nearest not to cry thinking about this while the gang were in the room)

To me, that person was Sully after all - scary when they have to prove a point, but a pure softie when they choose to, while constantly reminding me to be soft, to smile more, and not too hard on myself, even if I can be.

while all of these may not sound believable at this point, and I can guess they’re tired of me talking, know I mean it 101%. even if it hurts, and i miss how things were, I'll always wait for that person through good and bad, highs, and lows, thick and thin, in fights, and in silence, i’ll always hold my word, and i’ll always have their back until my last breath.

i'll always be the same clingy, but a better, reflected best friend waiting for them to come back.

if I had something to tell that person -

i love you for life, my bestie, and I’m sorry it took this long to realize that you meant a lot to me. Thank you for being a huge part of my life, for making the world a better place, for being the star to my moon, and for staying by my side through it all.

I know this doesn’t compensate for the damage done, and I know you’re still hurting; I am too. I hope somehow this lightens the load and makes up for what was done in some way. If I could turn back time to prevent this from happening, I would. We’ve switched places I’d like to think maybe so I realize how hard I’ve been on you, and it was the most humbling yet.

I wrote this in the hopes of bringing back my best friend who’d tell me that I’m not alone is this world, and who’d hug me to stop crying because of how painful it’s been.

I know I’m too late to say this, and it barely means a thing but I can’t stand a day without them. Not a day goes by where I think about how I could’ve trust our friendship through it all, it doesn’t go by without wishing things would be okay, and despite all this, hoping and waiting because in the end, they’ll always have me.
