Everyone is entitled to their own ships and headcanons for the ace attorney characters but I think that the one thing that in undeniable is the inherent queerness in all of them.
Like, the delites are a straight couple. A man dating a woman. But the way they love feels very queer- as in, they love each other in a way that I’m not sure if you would find that in the average hetero romance story.
You can ship justicykes. You can ship feenris. You can ship magshoe. But all of them love in a way that is extremely queer at it’s heart- even if you ship them in a straight relationship. And that’s what’s cool. That it’s really hard to remove the queerness from ace attorney.

Thinking abt Ace Attorney Social media HCs
Phoenix: Technologically illiterate, doesn’t really know what social media is or how to use it and refuses to learn because the longer he keeps up the bit the funnier it gets
Edgeworth: Doesn’t particularly care for social media, but found out about tumblr through Maya and now has an anonymous Steel Samurai account. His tagging system is meticulous and he has all notifications turned off. He treats it like he does office work. He and Maya are mutuals. Doesn’t have a personal account to speak of
Maya: Runs a semi-popular canon url pink princess and steel samurai fan tumblr. Also has a personal Instagram that’s mostly her eating burgers
Pearl: Didn’t have social media for a long time because of Morgan, but Maya introduced her and she has a very inactive private Instagram. She’s also in charge of the Kurain Village socials, which are very neat and professional
Mia: Was technologically illiterate and died before the social media boom was completely inescapable so nada
Diego: Socials weren’t as big before he fell into a coma and afterwards he doesn’t care too much about his image so he has nothing. HOWEVER, Maya started a twitter called “dead philosopher wisdom” that’s just random Diegoisms. He’s doing NUMBERS on there but is unaware of it because he doesn’t use twitter
Franziska: Knows how social media works because she needs it for her job but doesn’t use it very often. Her account has like 2 posts on it and she mostly uses it to keep track of targets and online paper trails
Kay: Runs an instagram account called “Edgeworth where he shouldn’t be” that’s nothing but silly and embarrassing candids of Edgeworth. Oldbag won’t stop messaging her asking who she is and how she’s getting these pictures
Apollo: Has a twitter with two followers that he uses to retweet and comment on legal academia news. He’s super active on all the law forums and legal advice columns and unfortunately has definitely posted on r/AskALawyer on mutliple occasions. His real claim to fame, though, is the anonymous Instagram he runs for his cat Mikeko. It’s called “The Pawsecutor’s Office” and he dresses up Mikeko like all the prosecutors (Miles Edgepurrth, Clawvier Gavin, Franziska Von Catma, etc) for photoshoots and silly skits. It’s wildly popular and Apollo would die if he were revealed to be behind it
Klavier: Super popular across all platforms and loves being silly online. If Edgeworth saw all the thirst traps he was posting he would prolly have a heart attack
Kristoph: Has a very minimal personal account for professional reasons but his REAL online footprint is the dozens of alternate accounts he uses to cyberstalk people and send his brother hate mail
Athena: Perfectly normal social media user. Has personal accounts that she posts to occasionally with cute photos of what she’s doing. The only person using it correctly
Trucy: Insanely popular on socials for her magic act. Knows how to market herself online better than anyone. She has a smaller personal account where she occasionally posts silly things about the WAA
Blackquill: Ran an edgy anime Tumblr for years before his incarceration and was posting on AO3 a lot. He comes back after his release explaining the break between chapters of his latest fanfiction was due to him being put on death row for seven years and continues posting normally with no mention of his prison sentence ever again. When he finally posts another AMV it’s a joyous day indeed

ppl who follow me are tired of me saying this, but if i could address the aa fandom directly... i rly would just ask that people like, stop being mean about dd and soj. like thats all i want.
im not even IN the fandom anymore, so i have no reach. i draw fanart and make my little ship posts but thats all. and thats bc the wider fandom ... is so fucking mean sometimes. omg. like its just not fun!!
but really, specifically, its about the dd and soj thing. the "play ace attorney we have so many games and [MOST OF THEM] are good!" thing. like, its fine if you dont LIKE dd and soj, obviously!! im not saying you HAVE to!
but "i dont like these games" and "these games are objectively bad and no one likes them" are entirely different statements.
plenty of people like dd and soj, even have them as their favorite games. i know this bc my soj fanart gets notes 😭 i have ppl in my tags excited and happy when i draw dhurke and datz. bc we like these characters!! and like to think about them and the story they come from!
...just bc YOU dont like soj, doesnt mean a lot of ppl dont like soj! so i really dont understand the drive to constantly talk down and insult these games?! like ... why be negative. u could be nicer. its possible and easy and then doesnt drive ppl away from the fandom bc their favorite games are being trashtalked all the time.
a lot of ppl find the space family dd interesting! they LIKE the phantom and his concept as a character! they LIKE soj and all of the political settings! it doesnt rly matter that they are, by and large, A Little Flop, bc people still LIKE them and like making content for them and thinking abt them and playing in the space and...!! like. why hate that? why constantly put us down for enjoying smth you didnt?
just dont need to constantly make slights at how "bad" and supposedly unenjoyable dd and soj are. cus not only is it mean, and makes the fandom hostile, but its literally untrue. i dont even consider myself in the fandom anymore bc all the fun is taken out of it when i have to brace myself for shitty comments like this whenever i read a post abt the series!
and i rly wish i could just Not Care what other ppl say. a lot of my friends dont care. but soj is like.....ive spent the past 5 years loving that stupid ass mediocre game. like its deeply important to me. and i just feel like a lot of ppl would have some fun with it if they werent constantly told how bad and skippable it is. im sure dd fans feel the same way.
its very cliquey. its very "the popular opinion is correct and if you dont agree, you dont get to play with us". it just sucksssss

Saw ur tags abt endgame krisnix and I'm 👀 curious. Cuz personally I'm a huge fan of their divorced vibes n the way they Cant work out, so I'm So curious as to what endgame krisnix would look like to you
hello and thanks for your ask! before i answer it, i am going to lay down three (3) disclaimers that might end up being longer than my answer itself.
1. i exist in the shipping multiverse, where any number of ships could work out or not work out in my mind depending on the conditions. i have very few "endgame" ships (fradrian and gumworth pan out in most of my universes), and the rest of the ships i like live in some schrödinger's state of existence for me.
2. i love to play with possibilities. exploring possibilities is the real fun of fandom for me - that's what makes fandoms transformative! the ace attorney canon is also so goofy and impossible that i love to think of what conditions could make a ship happen while still technically not contradicting canon.
3. i am, above all else, a playful contrarian. i started this blog because i'd have several people tell me that only one ship, a certain very popular one, had any chance of being "endgame." to which my lightly salty response was to make a blog called "krisnix prison wedding."
now that we've got those out of the way, here are my thoughts on endgame krisnix:
how it happens
- all of my long game kristoph ships take advantage of the fact that kristoph is never mentioned again after aa4. they threw him in the basement so i'm dragging him right back out again while capcom doesn't even notice 😂
- all of my long game kristoph ships take advantage of the fact that miles edgeworth has canonically pulled the strings of the justice system before in the service of people he knows and cares about. i'd argue that if klavier went to his boss and begged him not to have the state execute his only apparent living relative, edgey would find a way to commute his sentence. (bonus points if phoenix and edgey are in a relationship, and phoenix also begs edgeworth for clemency despite what kristoph has done)
why it happens
- you bring up a good point about kristoph and phoenix having divorced energy. think how much more potential for married-divorced energy there is if after all the insanity of the 7YG and aa4, kristoph and phoenix are still addicted to each other and, more importantly, still attracted to each other.
- midnightbrightside once tweeted something to the effect that kristoph and phoenix knew each other on both an intimate and mundane level over 7 years, and so they actually probably know more about each other than phoenix and edgeworth do bc of the amount of time they spent together. there is a force of habit but also a comfort and familiarity of having someone be present and stable in your life for that long. phoenix is a chronic attachment issues girlie and while i know he wanted to see kristoph punished for his actions, i'd be surprised if he wanted him out of his life permanently. kristoph would DEFINITELY take much longer to come around after his pride was shattered, but phoenix is patient and kristoph can't fully resist someone who gives him attention
what it looks like (partially a joke, but i'm not saying which parts)
- prison date visits with phoenix's sweetheart, much to the chagrin of literally every other AA character. apollo punches phoenix's lights out when he finds out that phoenix is back together with the guy who phoenix manipulated him into imprisoning
- kristoph showing progress in court-ordered therapy by gritting his teeth and saying to phoenix, "it is hard for me to admit when i feel vulnerable." he looks furious, but one of the black psyche locks breaks and that's good enough for phoenix
- house arrest anklet is the perfect accessory for date night!
- later, when the wounds have healed, they can laugh and banter about it! it makes everyone uncomfortable at parties when they tease each other about all the heinous and unethical shit they pulled to take each other down!
a final, more heartfelt note
idk, i like to think of how characters can grow and transform! kristoph is so interesting and tragic to me because he doesn't seem to know how to experience intimacy outside of his weird games. he wants to be close to people, but he doesn't know how and his paranoia won't allow him to. phoenix seems to struggle with the same thing minus the control and manipulation issues. i like to think about what post aa4 growth and closure would look like for them in a series that refuses to give it to us.
thanks again for the ask!

@fitia I'm going to take it to a real post because this is getting really long for tags and idk if I should keep clogging OP's notifs.
(TL;DR: this is about the question of taking the Japanese Gyakuten Saiban and the English Ace Attorney as two entirely different works vs. letting Gyakuten Saiban, by virtue of it being the original, influence or even override interpretation of the English version)
You make an excellent point too about accessibility. Not everyone can or wants to learn another language just to understand a piece of media and the great majority of the Western audience for Ace Attorney (me included) doesn't speak Japanese, and it's unfair to expect that of anyone. The game very much stands on its own, and the localisation does a pretty good work of separating the game enough from its original cultural context (as much as possible) for knowledge of said original context not to be necessary to understand it.
At the same time I also feel like they couldn't make it work perfectly, precisely because that's not how the work was conceived in the first place. Janet Hsu's "this is California if the Japanese community had been more implanted and less persecuted in the mid-20th century" setting is indeed a really clever way to do this, but ultimately this was not meant to be America, and so there will always be discrepancies between the real-world America and Ace Attorney's America that cannot be explained away by the setting, as alternate as it may be. Ace Attorney uses the same assets, the same plot beats, the same lines than Gyakuten Saiban, albeit culturally adapted and liberally translated. Ultimately, I do think Ace Attorney remains a translation more than an adaptation, even though I admit this is debatable as it certainly skirts the line between those two things. I think the difference is felt mostly in all the small things I outlined in my previous tags; Gregory and Phoenix working on Christmas, Europe somehow being both more advanced in working with juries and also having less worker protections as America, Germany and the German language for some reason seeming popular, snow in California, etc., all those things that are at the root of the "eat your hamburgers, Apollo" meme.
(Besides, I will argue that even the reading of an adaptation is enriched from looking at the material it is adapting. But I don't think anyone ever really argued the contrary anyway.)
There are also differences that have nothing to do with culture, but rather with the temporal context in which it was created, like technology being very different from what it "should" realistically be in the time setting the game it set in, between the archaic Nokia-brick-type phones Phoenix and Edgeworth tout and Kay's futuristic Little Thief, all of this in the mid-late 2010s.
So what I'm saying here is, I feel like there is room for creativity in one direction like in the other, and ultimately I don't think one approach is more "correct" than the other. I feel like it makes as much sense to read Ace Attorney on its own with only the text itself as basis for interpretation, as it does to prioritise the context of the original game to understand it, as it does to mixing and matching and doing everything in between. Personally, I like doing a little bit of both; to use (what Japanese speakers have to say about) the original work to understand better things that may seem strange to me about the localisation, or to enrich my understanding of the characters' behaviour, and better understand the very deliberate choices that the translation made without dismissing those as anything but choices that are very much a part of the work itself.
I understand the original post as being a reaction to certain "gotcha!" posts that seek to discredit the localisation by using the original, which I agree is in bad faith because the original and the localisation do exist as two different and separate objects. At the same time I think it's also a bit of a fallacy to truly consider the two objects entirely distinct, considering their very close link.

TL;DR: Let people hc whatever they want without attacking them,, as long as folks tag correctly and provide ample warning around sensitive topics, it shouldn’t matter what someone thinks about a funny fictional character. Love one another and sing kumbaya, thank you
I find the conversations around fictional characters who are headcanoned by any part of the fandom as gay, or any part of the LGBT community to be really weird. I’m using Miles Edgeworth from Ace Attorney as an example, but this post reflects my views across all fandoms.
Whenever I see a piece of ace attorney fandom media where Phoenix and Miles are in the same room and interact with each other, but isn’t explicitly shipping them, a lot of people in the comments will imply nrmt (narumitsu/wrightworth) with their comments anyways. And I FEEL THAT,,, because oftentimes it is just on the brain like that,, however if it wasn’t intended it might make the creator of the fanon work uncomfortable,, or make folks who don’t like nrmt upset.
When this happens a lot of shipping folks like to say “well it’s BASICALLY CANON that he’s gay,” which I don’t think is great. Even though I myself hc he’s gay, and a lot of the fandom thinks similarly, and even if that is the intention of the creators of the series, other people are allowed to think differently about it. That’s what’s nice about characters that aren’t confirmed to be any type of way: people can draw their own conclusions or label them as something they can relate to more, and explore what the universe would be like if those hcs - no matter how “out of place” they may be - were the case.
Alternatively, people who respond to the “they’re basically canonically gay” comment tend to say a variety of things that I believe are equally hurtful, if not more so. I get that it can be frustrating for folks who may happen to see Miles as anything besides gay to constantly hear this in this fandom, however I don’t think replying to that with “you’re homophobic for stereotyping gay people this way and immediately thinking they’re gay because they have these traits” is right either.
It’s true that many people see certain traits in fictional men and then like to assume they’re fruity. Miles Edgeworth for example is very well-mannered and kinda posh, he wears a cravat/jabot thing and speaks like he has a thesaurus shoved down his throat. He also drinks a lot of tea and is a closeted fan of a popular kids’ show. These surface traits are often the points folks who argue against the headcanon that he’s gay like to bring up, as these traits are often considered stereotypes of a gay man. As such, many folks argue against the “he’s canonically gay” point with the counterpoint that if you think he’s gay, you’re stereotyping gay men, or fetishizing them, or even that you’re homophobic for hcing that a character is gay if they DARE have any of these traits. And that’s pretty weird to me.
Sure, if this were the only things that could lead a person to hcing that Miles Edgeworth is gay, then maybe they have a point. Even if they did, I personally do not see the harm in hcing a person to be any type of way, as a lot of the folks who enjoy these headcanons are part of the LGBT community. Headcanons can be a way for an audience to relate to a character even more, no matter how out of place they may be to someone who is not within that audience. I think personally that as long as we can all exist in our separate internet spaces where Miles is gay in one and he’s straight in the other, he’s aroace in one and poly in the other, ANYTHING you might like to hc Miles as, that everyone can enjoy themselves and not be upset/offended by what other people think of a fictional man.
However, many people who come to the conclusion that Miles Edgeworth is gay usually like to reference the way he speaks about women and men, and also how he speaks about Phoenix Wright if you like the nrmt route. I like to reference AAI’s Turnabout Airlines for the first point, as there’s quite a few sentences that could be referencing Miles’ sexuality in them. There’s a scene where a man you decide to talk to on the airplane flirts with the female flight attendant accompanying Miles by saying something along the lines of sharing a glass of “grape juice” together. Miles thinks the man is talking to HIM and replies “I’m sorry, but I must decline.” Lots of people like to reference this moment as a hint that he’s gay, as in previous interactions where women have tried flirting with Miles, he doesn’t notice at all (except for Wendy Oldbag because NO ONE can miss that), but when this man flirts, he immediately notices, and sounds almost disappointed to have to decline the offer. Additionally, Miles and Phoenix are VERY WEIRD about each other throughout the entire series, and I’m not gonna talk about that because there is so much and many other people have spoken about it already. MY POINT IS that there are more reasons people like to hc he’s gay than “oh he speaks nicely and drinks tea”.
Not to mention that I heavily dislike that folks believe that we HAVE to assume a character is cishet unless the media they’re in explicitly states otherwise. Like why CAN’T people say this man is fruitier than a fruit salad, huh? The show didn’t explicitly say so? Well, they didn’t explicitly say he was straight either sweetie. Most media doesn’t do that if it’s not a focus in the plot, they’re more concerned about writing a neat, convoluted murder plot. For all we know Miles has had a secret boyfriend all along. Ultimately it doesn’t really matter what canon says, people on the internet can and will do whatever they want with this funny, traumatized little man, and I think it’s awesome that we can all share our ideas in this fandom. But I’m tired of people attacking each other or forcing their headcanons upon one another.
PEOPLE CAN CHARACTERIZE FICTIONAL CHARACTERS HOWEVER THEY WANT. IT SHOULD NOT MATTER WHAT THEY’RE DOING WITH THEM AS LONG AS THEY TAG CORRECTLY AND PROVIDE WARNINGS WHEREVER NECESSARY. GRRRRRRRRRRR

Propaganda Under Cut
Maya Fey
OKAY SO She's definitely NOT the love interest coz she's like 16 n he's 24 or smth but in literally all fandom she's just... the wingwoman. that's all. EVEN WHEN SHE'S IN A LESBIAN RELATIONSHIP IT'S IN THE BACKGROUND N SHE'S SUPPORTING THE YAOI GROWN ASS MEN..... it's horrible... detestable... she's a main character... she has ARCS..... and yet.. her own most popular ship tag is just.. her n her gf as background yuri who are supporting and wingwomaning the fucking main guys. it's a tragedy. Maya Fey would make Phoenix Wright buy her burgers everytime he made her listen to his love problems and then she'd tell him that every complaint he makes will cost another burger. SHE WOULD NEVER BE SUPPORTING YURI..
Phoenix’s best friend and partner in solving crimes. She often gets shunted aside by the fandom, reduced to Phoenix/Edgeworth cheerleader and matchmaker.
okay i wouldnt say shes exactly mistreated, shes pretty well liked in the fandom, HOWEVER shes always seen as like an accessory to wrightworth, her only role being to make jokes about how in love they are etc. i feel like a lot of people ignore her depth and backstory to just use her as a tool in wrightworth stories. she plays a very important role in the games as well and has been through a lot, and has always been helpful to wright, so she deserves to be more than the setup to a joke about wrightworth
Iris Hawthorne
Ex gf of the MC i lover her ok she is sweet
Phoenix wright’s canon ex girlfriend. Extremely underappreciated because people ignore her to make narumitsu work better
poor girl gets slandered by the fandom so much for being the main character’s ex. i know she was used primarily for the plot but cmon everyone’s just so mean to her. she was manipulated into doing terrible things by her sister whom she loves so much and she didn’t know any better because all she wanted was to have a family. it’s not an excuse for her actions but it’s just so tragic that she did everything for her sister just for her to use her for her own personal gain

(Saw someone do this and decided it seemed fun~
link to my ao3 here)
How many works do you have on AO3?
85.
What's your total AO3 word count?
915,568 words~
What fandoms do you write for?
Currently it’s for Helios Rising Heroes, Hypnosis Mic, Obey Me, Paradox Live, and Twisted Wonderland!
I’ve previously written for A3!, Ace Attorney, Ace of Diamond, Borderlands, Bungou Stray Dogs, Free!, Fire Emblem Three Houses, Fire Force, Gorillaz, Hero Academia, Kuroko no Basuke, Magi, Naruto, Red Dead Redemption, Run with the Wind, RWBY, Shokugeki no Souma, Stardew Valley, Tokyo Ghoul
Top five fics by kudos?
A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes [Twisted Wonderland] – 6,298
We’d Be a Hit Together [Haikyuu!!] – 6,211
Super Powered Love [My Hero Academia] – 5,436
A Devil’s Bride [Obey Me!] – 3,583
I Need Love [Hypnosis Mic] – 1,928
Do you respond to comments?
I try to! I always read and appreciate comments made on my posts, on AO3 and Tumblr, I always check to see if someone has tagged it with commentary <3
What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
To be fair I hurt Malleus with the whole ‘you’re likely someone with a shorter lifespan’ idea constantly, but The Brightest Star was definitely a sadder one from my KNB days.
What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Most of them because I truly hate unhappy endings. You can probably tell just from how I write that I try to put a positive spin on things, but I am trying to just let the angst happen or leave things off with ambiguity rather than specifying that a character only seems to feel a certain way when they’re actually feeling something else entirely.
Do you get hate on fics?
Occasionally. I remember getting this angry message about me being a feminist because I made the reader like dom Hanamiya from KNB and they were MAAAAD about it lmao I also remember being on fanfic dot net and getting argued with and I just sent the brady bunch theme song over and over until they stopped messaging me back
Do you write smut?
I do! Not the biggest fan of it honestly because I never feel like it’s half as sexy as the things I read other people write, but I do get in moods and with certain characters they just need to be manhandled a lil, you know?
Craziest crossover?
I have never written a crossover in my LIFE
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Awhile back I did but I was told about it and the story was quickly taken down, I think it was on Wattpad or something like that.
Have you ever had a fic translated?
I have! I’ve gotten a handful of requests for my more popular ones to get translated, I don’t mind at all!
Have you ever co-written a fic before?
I mean I’m co-writing a book with the other admin on this blog, so does that count?
All time favorite ship?
Me and all my lil husbands.
What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
I was writing this Criminal Minds fanfic that I had all plotted out, dramatic quotes at the beginning of episodes already picked, but I don’t think I’ll ever bother focusing on it.
What are your writing strengths?
I would say characterization is my strength! The characters are the best parts of fanfics after all and I always try to do research on the characters I write; if they’re ones I don’t know as well I’ll scan the wiki and read extra stories with them in it just to get a better handle on them! It’s why when there’s characters that haven’t been around long enough or don’t have a lot of content translated for them that I don’t like writing for them because I need at least something to go off of, I don’t want to have to make up their personality myself
What are your writing weaknesses?
Details. Which is a horrible thing to say as a writer, but I do feel like my writing lacks details here and there. Like with dialogue, I’ve been trying to write more in-between actions while the characters are talking since most people aren’t just standing still, especially if a character was doing something before another person entered the room. Descriptions of the world around the characters
Thoughts on dialogue in another language?
I don’t like using google translate but I do have characters I love who speak other languages. Those heinous Hetalia days where you’d randomly put a word into the middle of an otherwise english sentence… they haunt me. But what I try to do with Citron from A3 is write some of his dialogue in parentheses to show he’s speaking in a language that the reader might not understand, and I feel like that works a little better for someone who doesn’t speak anything but english to do for the sake of not butchering another language.
First fandom you wrote in?
I truly wish I knew. I know I wrote for Naruto back in the day, and The Outsiders was one of the first full length fics I did. But that was back on Quizilla which has since turned to dust. I was also on Lunaescence for a while, whose creators have also turned to dust apparently. What a world
Favourite fic you've written?
It’s hard to pic just one when most of my fics are like, stand-alone short little things. But I think one I’m very fond of (which was written for the other admin so it explains why I put so much effort into it) was Snowy Mountain Getaway, which was a FE3H Dimitri/Reader College AU fic.

Pinned Post Time!
Tumblr media
I want to be more social/less intimidating here, so I've decided to make a pinned post, despite not really being sure how to properly make one.
My blogs are @julerosemary and @a-grand-purvoyeur, but you can call me "Julerosemary" on both. I keep my pronouns secret for opsec reasons, so just use whatever you'd like on me. I'm an adult (defined here as someone between the ages on 18 and ∞), but in terms of IRL information, I'd imagine you'd have to follow me for a while/deeply check my profiles/just get lucky on what you see to get anything more than that (again, for opsec reasons).
@julerosemary is used as a kind of ¿art gallery? of reblogs and original posts Its something I want to be able to scroll through and smile. That's why when I need to communicate via reblog I use @a-grand-purvoyeur. @a-grand-purvoyeur is untagged posts and posts that just didn't make the @julerosemary cut. Oh, and I know the tagging system on @julerosemary is kinda a mess, but I've come this far with it, and I'm not willing to give it up now.
Other things...the more I talk, the more likely I am to sound like a Precure villian/Sephiroth. This isn't me trying to be intimidating or smart or anything, it's just a natural typing voice. I don't bite, really! As for interests, it changes around a lot, but I will gladly revisit old interests if you prompt me. Here's a list (focusing on those popular on Tumblr).
Avemygo, and Bandori in general, mainly excluding the mobile game (I might use Bestdori to read the game's stories, but I swore an oath to myself to not play gacha games)
Pokemon Reborn, and Pokemon in general
Magical Girls (Madoka Magica and Precure specifically)
Ace Attorney
Slay the Princess
Danganronpa, kinda (only read the playthrough of THH)
Tvtropes (that's my home, baby!)
Ranma 1/2, but even more kinda (only read fanfiction)
SCP (Series II-VIII)
Gnosia
Homestuck, also kinda (did the stereotype and stopped at act VI, informed about most of the events by other means) (in fairness, I was viewing it on mobile, so the more elaborate flashes tended to lose me) (I did read the Epilogues, but stopped reading Homestuck^2) (The series still holds a lot of good memories, even if I experienced it weird)
Your Turn to Die
Fanfiction in general. I'm liable to reading fanfiction of a series before (or never) actually experiencing it. I mainly read it, but I've been getting into writing it as well.
The analytical side of fandom

Fanfiction meme
@doreyg tagged me to answer these fanfiction questions; thank you so much!
How many works do you have on ao3?
On my main account, Riona, it’s 234. I also have 130 works across two pseuds on my secondary account, rionaleonhart (for older works and ficlets), so in total I’ve posted 364 works to AO3.
What’s your total word count?
My combined total on AO3 is 1,136,030 words. If I look at the documents in which I keep all my writing archived, it’s slightly higher – 1,266,834 words – because I haven’t posted everything I’ve ever written to AO3.
What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
My most popular fic, by a long way, is And Again (Danganronpa, Naegi is caught in a time loop, 7,227 kudos). This was the first fic I ever posted to AO3, and I was startled by the way it blew up! For a while I was slightly intimidated to post anything else in case I let everyone down.
The others in the top five: Life Imitates (FFXV, Noctis/Prompto, 5,566 kudos), Vessels (Deltarune, 2,635 kudos), Visitors (Assassin’s Creed/Sense8, 1,607 kudos) and Memory Error (Doki Doki Literature Club!, 1,551 kudos). Most of these were an accident of timing: I happened to post just when the fandom was starting to get big. The exception is Visitors, which mainly picked up readers because it ended up expanding into a vast cowritten series.
Interesting to note that four of my top five fics are gen; I wasn’t expecting that!
Do you respond to comments? Why/why not?
I used to be very bad at responding to comments, back in my Livejournal days – it was a struggle to think of what to say! – but nowadays I reply to every comment I get, unless they’re outright rude or I suspect that they’ve been left by a spambot. A nice comment can really make my day, so I always want to say thanks! Plus a lot of the things I write are a bit niche, so I’m always excited to have the opportunity to talk to other people in the same niche.
What's the fic you've written with the angstiest ending?
Probably New Game? (Until Dawn): Mike is caught in a time loop, endlessly trying to prevent his friends from dying, and there’s no way to get out.
What's the fic you've written with the happiest ending?
Hmm! I tend to prefer hopeful endings to outright happy ones; it’s tough to think of an answer that feels right for this. I’ll just say Interweave (Lost, everyone/everyone), which ends with Jack accepting that he’s in love with pretty much everyone else on the island.
Do you write crossovers?
Not as many as I used to, but I still really enjoy crossing things over! I’ve only written one crossover this year (Always Believe, Death Note/Ace Attorney, Phoenix Wright defends Light in court), but in total I’ve written somewhere in the vicinity of fifty crossovers (including fusions).
Have you ever received hate on a fic?
Fifteen years ago, I received a comment telling me ‘FUCK YOU. SERIOUSLY. YOU SHOULD FUCKING DIE’ on what I thought was a fairly innocuous Doctor Who/Silent Hill crossover. To this day I don’t know what my crime was.
I’ve had occasional negative comments since then, but that’s the only instance I can think of in which someone obviously just wanted to hurt me. A lot of people hated the concept of In Fainter Ink, my Last of Us Part II fic in which Ellie, Dina and Jesse navigate V-shaped polyamory, but most of the negative commenters were at least making some effort to engage with me in good faith. I still think it’s odd to read a polyamory fic and then tell the author you don’t want polyamory! But the commenters were nonetheless people who had genuine feelings about the story that they wanted to express, rather than just throwing hatred at me as a person.
Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
I can’t write explicit sex at all! Most of my sex is fade-to-black. I do occasionally write ‘onscreen’ sex, but it tends to be very vague.
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Three times that I know of! And Again, my Danganronpa time loop fic, was stolen twice; it was posted once to ffnet and once to Amino. Seems like a bad idea to steal my most popular fic; it meant that in both cases it was quickly recognised and people came to let me know!
My Doki Doki Literature Club! fic Memory Error was stolen, posted to Pastebin and shared with fans on some sort of 4chan-adjacent site. I didn’t bother taking any steps to get that one taken down; Pastebin seems such an impractical platform for pretending you wrote a fic that I could only shrug in bewilderment.
Have you ever had a fic translated?
A few times, usually into Russian! I’m always thrilled and honoured when someone wants to translate something I’ve written.
Have you ever co-written a fic before?
A small handful of times! I don’t recommend attempting to cowrite with me, because my attention span is a disaster and I may lose focus before the project is finished, but I’ve cowritten fics here and there.
What's your all-time favourite ship?
I can’t say for certain whether Nate/Elena from Uncharted is my absolute favourite ship, but it’s always the pairing my mind goes to first when I’m asked about ships I like, so it’s definitely a strong contender. They’ve got such good chemistry!
What's a WIP that you want to finish but don't think you ever will?
There are a lot! In particular, I’ve got a thousand words of a Kingdom Hearts/Neon Genesis Evangelion crossover in which Axel, Roxas and Xion are EVA pilots; I still like the idea, but I don’t think I’m ever actually going to get it done, particularly as I’ve forgotten everything about Evangelion by this point.
What are your writing strengths?
I tend to be good at dialogue, I think, and at pinning down what a particular character would do in a particular situation. I’m also strong on technical aspects such as spelling and punctuation.
What are your writing weaknesses?
I struggle with description and scene-setting; a lot of my scenes end up feeling like characters conversing in a void. I can’t plot things in advance, which means I’m terrible at writing anything long; it’s a lot easier to write on the fly with short one-shots. I find it very difficult to write a good opening; I’m more comfortable when writing endings.
What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
Like many things, it can be done well or badly! It mainly depends on how it’s employed, and on the audience for your fic. If you include a lot of text that you don’t expect the audience to be able to read, it might become distracting or frustrating.
Basically, if someone asks the protagonist of your Spanish fic a question in German, and the protagonist doesn’t understand German, it makes sense to write the line in German. If the German speaker then gets into a long conversation with the protagonist’s German-speaking friend, it might be better for the fic’s flow to gloss over the conversation and have the friend explain it to the protagonist later, rather than writing the whole German conversation out word-for-word.
What was the first fandom you wrote for?
Pokémon! When I was twelve, I wrote a fic about Definitely Not Me going on a Pokémon journey with Definitely Not My Friends and Family. There was a subplot in which Team Rocket were abducting people and turning them into furries.
What's a fandom/ship you haven't written for yet but want to?
The Coffin of Andy and Leyley is the latest canon to consume my mind. I’m working on a fic about Andrew and Ashley’s time imprisoned in their home together, so I hope to get that finished before long!
What's your favourite fic you've written?
I’ve written a lot; it’s hard to narrow it down! I don’t want to spend hours overthinking this, so I’ll go with the first fic that comes to mind: Shackles. It’s a Death Note fic about Light and L being incredibly toxic soulmates, and I had a lot of fun with it.

2024: Fic in Review
The lovely @hazelestelle tagged me in this fic in review meme, and even though I didn't write much last year and am slightly late, I thought it might be nice to reflect nonetheless!
Total Number of Fics: 6
Total Wordcount: 7,260 🙈 my quietest year since 2019!
Fandoms: 3 (Ace Attorney, Baldur's Gate 3 and Dragon Age)
Smut scenes: 0, in a surprisingly sedate year for me. If my Meresino fic Hand in Glove had gone on for much longer, it probably would have gotten there, though!
Most Popular Fic (by bookmarks): Brilliant Things, my Johanna Hezenkoss-POV Emmrook fic that I posted all of three days ago.
Most Popular Fic (by kudos): Also Brilliant Things
New things I tried: Writing something that wasn't for a fandom event or exchange for the first time in seven years and actually working on it over multiple days despite it being a one-shot and not giving up, haha.
Fic I spent the most time on: Brilliant Things, again, because it was by far the longest and the one I was most nervous about getting right.
Fic I spent the least time on: Proof, a Franmiles ficlet I wrote for the Battleship exchange which basically flowed out of my fingers with limited input from my actual brain. They're one of those pairings I have spent so many years thinking about (a decade? plus?) that I could probably write about them in my sleep.
Favourite thing I wrote: Definite toss-up between Brilliant Things and Proof, although I feel like Brilliant Things might be affected by recency bias.
Looking Back, Did You Write More Fic Than You Thought You Would This Year, Less, Or About What You’d Expected? More, honestly! I actively planned to severely reduce my fandom participation at the start of 2024 on account of returning to uni, and I only started writing again when life blew up in my face last June.
Story Of Mine Most Under-Appreciated By The Universe, In My Opinion: tbh, I think my fics more or less got the appreciation they deserved, but if I must answer, I think it would've been neat if more people had read Ordinary Days in Baldur's Gate, even if it is a very short piece of Half-Orc Tav/Lae'zel fluff. It's probably the only BG3 fic I'll write because apparently I cannot spend hundreds of hours in a game AND also be fannish about it, I must choose or the other. lol
Most Unintentionally Telling Story: Not to like, psychoanalyse myself through fiction, but part of why I was struggling to write despite having so much free time in the latter half of last year was because I'd grown out of the themes that used to permeate my works when I was younger (there was a LOT of exploration of generational trauma going on, even before I knew the words to describe it). But the process of writing Brilliant Things made me realise what story beats and themes I'm interested in exploring going ahead, and my return to academia has empowered me in feeling like I might actually be doing it on purpose this time.
Biggest Disappointment: I don't think there were really any major ones. I was a bit disappointed I couldn't write more when I was unemployed, but in hindsight I think I was fully unprepared for how much brainspace job hunting takes up, even when one is actively taking a break from it.
Biggest Surprise: Dragon Age: The Veilguard not only existing, but coming out AND restoring my writing drive. Honestly, it's only in the past couple of weeks that I've been seized by this surge of energy (unsurprisingly co-inciding with my return to the workforce).
My Favourite Part Of Fandom This Year: A few things! Firstly, bonding with fellow Emmrich-mancers. I am just starting to be more active in DA fandom again, and given my previous experiences in wider Bioware fandom I am always a bit wary but Emmrich-spaces are overwhelmingly positive compared to the community at large because everyone is focused on the shared goal of sexualising that old man, and I just think that's neat-- But also, talking to and befriending @freddy-eynsford-hills-cuck-chair who has also helped me returned to the world of reading fanfic with unbridled enthusiasm of My Fair Lady and Henry/Eliza AND having written so many amazing fanfics for me to catch up on. I am still working my way through them. How do they do it? I honestly do not know <3 Also, shout out to my buddies in (what is nominally) the Meresino server; it may be small but we just celebrated our two-year anniversary and our conversations continue to sustain me 💖 There's definitely a common theme running here, and I dare say it is ENTHUSIASM!! 🗣️
Writing goals for next year: I would like to finish at least two of the one-shots I have outlined that take place in the same continuity as Brilliant Things. As a stretch goal, I'm even considering working on a chaptered long fic again for the first time in YEARS. We'll see how I go.
Did you meet last years goal?: Given it was roughly "write less" and I wrote like, 40k more words in 2023, I GUESS Not tagging anyone because I think most people have already done various 2024 fic reflections, but if you would like to do this one, please go ahead and tag me because I'd love to read it!!

(Saw someone do this and decided it seemed fun~ also posted to my TWST blog
link to my ao3 here)
How many works do you have on AO3?

The one ghost trick post I made got a huge bunch of likes again and a lot of the tags are people talking about how they just played it or how they’re really wanting to play it or how they played it years ago and loved it and I just wanna say thank you I’m glad my shity rambling I did in the middle of a tornado that’s misspelled in a bunch of places and born of sheer boredom has resonated with so many of you
That being said I’ve never played ghost trick. Quite frankly if you see any fandom of any kind on my tumblr (I know most of you are here for ghost trick stuff it’s become my brand) chances are I’ve never actually engaged with that media in its intended way. Ace attorney? Have never played a single game. Spidypool? Don’t read the comics or the fanfics. We’ve been over how I’ve never watched any jerma media despite those being popular posts of mine too. Assume going forward that I’m a fraud and a liar and a snake

20 questions for fic writers
Thank you to @meerawrites for the tag!!
-
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
Currently 209 on our thesavagesabretooth account and 91 on our overlord_mordax account.
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
550,775 on thesavagesabretooth and 757,869 on overlord_mordax– but the statistics are skewed on that second account because it's also used as a repository for old RP logs.
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Our top most written fandoms are: Marvel (various), Resident Evil, Ace Attorney, Danganronpa, Homestuck, Persona, and Metal Gear Solid
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
One (serrenedy drabble, 217 kudos)
Like a Thief in the Night (shuake smut one-shot, 178 kudos)
Recovery (serrenedy drabble, 170 kudos)
In Justice We Trust (phantomquill / blackbright longfic, 161 kudos)
Wandering Eyes (chrisker smut one-shot, 154 kudos)
bonus sixth highest
The Primrose Path to Hell (webecca smut longfic, 141 kudos)
and on our other account
Neat, Polished, Mahogany (lokius smut one shot, 1172 kudos)
Go The Fuck To Sleep (moonknight selcest smut one shot, 1,066 kudos)
Drawing The Line (octogoblin multichapter fic, 807 kudos)
Second Chances, Work to Do (Doc Ock one shot, 377 kudos)
Complicated (moonknight selfcest smut drabble, 339 kudos)
Bonus sixth highest
Games of Passion (hubernie multichapter smut fic, 276 kudos)
What I think this really displays quite clearly is the difference in reception and kudos between highly popular fandoms at their peak interaction, and smaller, older fandoms.
All of the fics in our first account are for small, well established fandoms– notably Resident Evil and Ace Attorney, and these fics were posted recently, long after the height of either series' popularity.
The fics in the second account are almost exclusively Marvel fics, a hugely popular fandom, and were all published almost immediately as the source material was airing. The Lokius fic– our highest kudos'd fic by far was posted the first day of the first episode of Loki, and was one of the first Lokius fics on AO3.
5. Do you respond to comments?
As often as we can, but we can sometimes be slow!
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Mmmm…. difficult question. I won't include drabbles because they tend to be ALL angst. This is hard because we tend to focus on heavy angst followed by a happy ending. The angstiest ending would probably be either our slayers fic, My Sister's Keeper (multi-chapter) which has a downbeat but hopeful ending, or our recent one-shot "Where Were You on the Night of the Murder" which doesn't end happily at all.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Probably In Justice We Trust, which we just finished. It very much takes a hopeless and tragic situation in canon and turns it into a much happier ending. Oh but there's also The Departure of the Great Returned Soul which of course brings someone back to life….
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Not as of yet, though I can imagine it in the future.
9. Do you write s.mut?
Yes, and lots of it! We tend toward very character driven or situational smut, often integrated into or alongside larger romantic works.
10. Do you write crossovers?
Largely no, but occasionally yes. Our biggest crossover is The Departure of the Great Returned Soul, which places Bunny and Raffles in the Great Ace Attorney universe.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not to my knowledge!
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yes, we had someone ask to translate The Monster's Name Was Adam into Russian.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
We habitually co-write longfic with our partner.
14. What’s your all-time favorite ship?
This is like asking me to choose my favorite lover. What are you, some kind of monster?
Our top most written ships are: chrisker, webbeca, weskertine, shuake, octogoblin, togafuka,
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
Ugh. At this point probably Vinewood Disasters 1973, our retro era GTA V trikey fic. We want to finish it, we really do. But it keeps getting pushed off.
16. What are your writing strengths?
We're always told we're very good at writing character voices.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Editing and typos for sure.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
We try to do it as little as possible because we're self conscious about getting it wrong.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Lord of the Rings, in 2002.
20. Favorite fic you’ve written?
Ever???? Uhhhh….
Toss up between The Departure of the Great Returned Soul, The Primrose Path to Hell, and In Justice We Trust.
-
I'm not tagging anybody because tagging makes it feel like a chore, but I am inviting all of my writer mutuals to answer these and tag us as having tagged you!
We couldn't find the questions by themselves anywhere, so we've copied them out ourselves and they're under the cut for anyone who wants to cut and paste them!
