Hello! Posting this to try and settle an argument/debate thing
Is it heteronormal to say that sex has to include some form of penetration (Penis or finger in any kind of hole) to count as sex?
I say yes but my friend says no, so wanted to get an opinion from a more informed party
Hiiiii. I don't like being involved in arguments or debates but sure, why not.
I think you mean heteronormative but yes, it is. It's very much an idea based in heteronormativity that penetration is sex and therefore sex is penetration. It's very much connected to the idea that anal sex is "degenerate sex", while anyone claiming to have sex that doesn't involve penetration is "delusional."
By that logic, that means many types of masturbation aren't sex, tribbing isn't sex, frottage isn't sex, some types of rimming aren't sex, as well as some types of general oral sex not being sex. The list goes on.
Which is a dangerous belief, by the way, because to deny that different types of sex are sex only feeds into rape culture and makes it harder to get across what exactly sexual assault/abuse is.
The idea that sex must involve penetration to "count" as sex is tied to so many bigotries, if I'm honest. Ableism, homophobia, lesbophobia specifically, misogyny, etc. It's not just heteronormative but it is explicitly heteronormative and tied to rape culture, as heteronormativity often is.
Not sure how helpful this is but I enjoy rambling about things I have a passion for, so thanks for involving me. Let me know if you have anymore questions! <3
(Or even if this is remotely helpful T_T)

And here we go. Homophobic BL fans are review bombing this show. This show had a 8.3 but in a couple hours it got 300+ new reviews that were all really low.
And this person is right

If you have the "I don't want my child to be gay" mindset, you're not ready to have children. The fact that your homophobia could overpower your love for your child means you don't love your child the way you should. Don't @me.

how on earth people will seriously claim that a bi male character absolutely must have been intended as a gay man because... not being masculine enough, taking care of own appearance too much, and being too flamboyant apparently cannot mean anything but being gay.
...and then go through olympics level mental gymnastics and come to conclusion that the homophobic part in this equation is that the character is bi rather than gay. while. being like a step or two away from just saying that the character is too much of a fruity little faggot to have sex with women.
how this keeps happening. why i am seeing this happen more than once with different bi video game men i wanna fuck.

(massively simplifying here, but some historical homophobia angles to consider~)
A talking point you got in the 1600s-1700s was "selfishness." Homosexual behavior is taking time away from your family/expected legacy. Like it's a vice hobby equivalent to maybe... gambling. A little isn't *good,* but so long as it doesn't effect your wife/family... it's whatever.
And for the Romans, it wasn't so much homophobia as *bottom* phobia, which mostly manifested as a dislike of couples where both members were too obviously masc, or too obviously femme. Also, a belief that men did and should age out of being femme, and therefore age-gap couples were significantly less problematic.
Coining a phrase: Period atypical homophobia.
Definition: When the writer of a piece of historical fiction hasn't really bothered to research how gay people existed in a period of time or what terms would have been used to discuss homosexuality positively or negatively. So instead they put the most modern, likely religious terms into the mouth of a historical character to establish that a character is homophobic.
e.g. Having every Victorian character be a religious homophobe instead of having them talk about "public decency" and "discretion"

June 21, 2024 - Namibia's high court has declared the "sodomy law" that criminalised gay sex unconstitutional!
Namibia inherited the apartheid-era law banning “sodomy” and “unnatural offences” when it gained independence from South Africa in 1990. [link]

It's like how conservatives regularly insist that businesses have every right to discriminate when deciding who works for them but shit themselves when a business won't hire unvaccinated people.

Image description: Several symbols combined into one.
One is a symbol of Judaism, which is two triangles interlaced, making the six-pointed Star of David.
Another is a symbol of therianthropy, which is made of two Greek letters interlaced: the triangle-shaped delta, and the theta, which is a circle with a horizontal bar inside its middle.
Furthermore, these are in the three colors of the transgender flag. Those are blue for boys, pink for girls, and "white for those who are intersex, transitioning or consider themselves having a neutral or undefined gender," as described by Monica Helms, the creator of that flag.
The shade of pink shown here is darker than that of the trans flag, because it's from another symbol: the pink triangle. This originated in Nazi Germany as a badge to mark concentration camp prisoners as homosexuals, much as Jewish prisoners had to wear a badge of the star. In the 1970s and 1980s, the gay rights movement adopted the pink triangle as a memorial of those prisoners and to protest homophobia and the homophobia-driven discrimination against people who have HIV and AIDS.
The overall effect of these combined symbols is that of the usual Star of David with the addition of a white circle and white inner bar. The Star's upward pointing triangle is a blue outline, and it is also the delta. The Star's downward pointing triangle is a solid pink triangle.
Description ends.

I understand that folks tend to think of open homophobia in popular media as a Thing Of The Past, and that the 2000s are still sufficiently recent as not to count as The Past in a lot of folks' minds, but still it kills me the sheer incredulity I keep bumping into when people are confronted with how casually homophobic early 2000s popular media actually was. Like, buddy, you have no idea how recently "isn't it shameful for a straight man to know what a latte is?" stopped being a standard sitcom bit. There were whole shows airing as recently as the early 2010s whose entire premise was "this ostensibly straight man has somewhat fruity mannerisms" – like, that was the entire joke.
