Polyetheretherketone Recycling
Polyetheretherketone (PEEK) is a thermoplastic known for its relatively high mechanical properties and chemical and thermal stability. It is used in aerospace, biomedical, and nuclear applications, among others that require high performance polymers. Because it is also relatively expensive, the ability to recycle PEEK is of high interest to these industries, but the polymer is largely disposed of in landfills or by incineration. Both mechanical and chemical recycling can be used with PEEK. However, because many of the applications of PEEK require such high performance, research is still ongoing to ensure recycled PEEK can meet the properties of virgin PEEK, and the polymer is not highly recycled at this time. Its use in the medical field, in particular, can also lead to contamination that makes recycling difficult.

Europa Clipper: Millions of miles down, instruments deploying
NASA's Europa Clipper, which launched Oct. 14 on a journey to Jupiter's moon Europa, is already 13 million miles (20 million kilometers) from Earth. Two science instruments have deployed hardware that will remain at attention, extending out from the spacecraft, for the next decade—through the cruise to Jupiter and the entire prime mission.
A SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket launched it away from Earth's gravity, and now the spacecraft is zooming along at 22 miles per second (35 kilometers per second) relative to the sun.
Europa Clipper is the largest spacecraft NASA has ever developed for a planetary mission. It will travel 1.8 billion miles (2.9 billion kilometers) to arrive at Jupiter in 2030 and in 2031 will begin a series of 49 flybys, using a suite of instruments to gather data that will tell scientists if the icy moon and its internal ocean have the conditions needed to harbor life.
For now, the information mission teams are receiving from the spacecraft is strictly engineering data (the science will come later), telling them how the hardware is operating. Things are looking good. The team has a checklist of actions the spacecraft needs to take as it travels deeper into space.
Boom times
Shortly after launch, the spacecraft deployed its massive solar arrays, which extend the length of a basketball court. Next on the list was the magnetometer's boom, which uncoiled from a canister mounted on the spacecraft body, extending a full 28 feet (8.5 meters).
To confirm that all went well with the boom deployment, the team relied on data from the magnetometer's three sensors. Once the spacecraft is at Jupiter, these sensors will measure the magnetic field around Europa, both confirming the presence of the ocean thought to be under the moon's icy crust and telling scientists about its depth and salinity.
On the radar
After the magnetometer, the spacecraft deployed several antennas for the radar instrument. Now extending crosswise from the solar arrays, the four high-frequency antennas form what look like two long poles, each measuring 57.7 feet (17.6 meters) long. Eight rectangular very-high-frequency antennas, each 9 feet (2.76 meters) long, were also deployed—two on the two solar arrays.
"It's an exciting time on the spacecraft, getting these key deployments done," said Europa Clipper project manager Jordan Evans of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Southern California. "Most of what the team is focusing on now is understanding the small, interesting things in the data that help them understand the behavior of the spacecraft on a deeper level. That's really good to see."
Instrument checkout
The remaining seven instruments will be powered on and off through December and January so that engineers can check their health. Several instruments, including the visible imager and the gas and dust mass spectrometers, will keep their protective covers closed for the next three or so years to guard against potential damage from the sun during Europa Clipper's time in the inner solar system.
Mars-bound
Once all the instruments and engineering subsystems have been checked out, mission teams will shift their focus to Mars. On March 1, 2025, Europa Clipper will reach Mars's orbit and begin to loop around the Red Planet, using the planet's gravity to gain speed. (This effect is similar to how a ball thrown at a moving train will bounce off the train in another direction at a higher speed.) Mission navigators have already completed one trajectory correction maneuver, as planned, to get the spacecraft on the precise course.
At Mars, scientists plan to turn on the spacecraft's thermal imager to capture multicolored images of Mars as a test operation. They also plan to collect data with the radar instrument so engineers can be sure it's operating as expected.
The spacecraft will perform another gravity assist in December 2026, swooping by Earth before making the remainder of the long journey to the Jupiter system. At that time, the magnetometer will measure Earth's magnetic field, calibrating the instrument.

Put briefly, the "Super M60" was an upgrade for the M60 offered by Teledyne Continental Motors' General Products Division. It offered increased levels of armor protection, a much more powerful engine, improved transmission, a lower profile cupola, while also incorporating the AN/VVS-2 thermal imaging system and AN/VVG-2 laser rangefinder from the M60A3 TTS. Only one prototype was ever made due to a lack of orders or interest domestically and internationally.

so people (toto wolff) are saying that the cars are black to save weight, but aren't they still painted black? i mean the car is shiny and all, it's not just bits of exposed carbon fibre...
how can it save weight but still be painted?
is it because all cars are painted black as a ground colour and then other colours would be painted additionally on top?
hello! this is a good question.
the cars are all basically black underneath, because the bodies are made of high-performance carbonfibre compounds. carbonfibre is what a whole family of materials are called but they tend to come out black or grey (because of the carbon) so that’s just the natural colour of the material when it’s produced.
Mercedes have then applied what looks like some kind of vinyl (or other similar material) to the car down the centre and top of the nose and on part of the floor around the ...well, the not-sidepods and also right at the top on the air intake and engine cover. let me get an image for CSI-style Sharpening purposes.
as you can see, there’s that glossier texture at the top, where it’s been wrapped or painted but everywhere you can see that diagonal striation is bare carbon fibre. because F1 teams are very clever, the striations will have been formed so they probably play a minor aerodynamic role.
there’s the small amount of paint or vinyl where there’s the PETRONAS and then again with the silver and teal swoops but otherwise it’s naked from the TeamViewer down.
here’s the nose view, where you can see there’s just a strip of paint down the centre, followed by the bare carbon fibre. so the majority of the colour you’re seeing on the car is indeed totally bare carbon fibre.
if an F1 car’s completely painted then allegedly that can add about 6kg. I suspect that’s a worst-case scenario if you were using the heaviest paint possible but even so, stripping off lots of paint is a weight-saving measure.
F1 teams spend a lot of time developing their paints (literally, there are people whose job it is) because of their weight and also the effect they can have on a car’s thermal management. got a paint that limits heat dissipation over your engine cover? you have problems. I should do a whole bit about this some time.
but the short version is: yes, Mercedes has stripped enough paint off their car that it will be a significant weight saving.

Hello. This is Archivist Jax. I was told a reference image was required for Skettil for this assignment. I do not have reference images of the Skettil because Mephit is behind on acquisitions paperwork for this project. Instead, have this drawing of an approximate shape of what a single Skettil looks like in their famous "compact" form. Don't be fooled, the model I sketched is the size of a bus and is hiding 250+ legs, pincers, claws, and various appendages underneath the portion of shell behind their head. I refuse to draw any unfolded version as each looks like a nightmare unless you're ready for it. A few more fun facts about these guys because they're one of my favorite things in the entire Multiverse:
Their mouth is on the bottom of their head. It is backwards facing so that the individual's appendages can grab food it walks over and push it into its mouth. When in space flight, they can depressurize their mouths to eat space gas and rocks, although they do not always eat at all. This is exactly as gross to watch as it sounds.
It is incredibly heavy. Like several hundred tons heavy. This makes fuel costs for transporting them expensive. As such, Skettil who have bound themselves as part of a ship's crew (generally navigation as they can survive in open space by curling into a pressurized multichambered ball and are also Ley sensitive enough to guide most ships) are one of three at most on average ships and ten at most on average space stations.
On a related note, all Skettil have wings and can perform Ley based space flight outside of a ship, but they are too heavy to fly very high or far. Instead, the Skettil have sophisticated and powerful rockets based on a fungal fuel engine they use to launch themselves for flight. If they are going spaceward, this then means they use the end momentum to fly to just below orbit. Next they release a held burst of air in a "shout" that acts and sounds like a jet engine to get all the way into orbit. Finally, they slingshot from orbit in the direction of the Ley Path or planet/moon they wish to go to next and settle in for long flight. The aforementioned space junk they eat in flight? Processed into a gas they shoot as jets to make necessary in-flight adjustments.
They don't always eat because they have three different sailcloth like organs they can spread to absorb solar, nuclear, thermal, and electromagnetic energy and process it. It is believed this was an adaptation to prevent their overeating as megafauna themselves. The Skettil seem to indicate this is how they became scavengers who process the remains of larger megafauna from Skettilex Prime into compost.
They all paint their shells in lieu of names as they have only a visual language and not a spoken one. However, since Skettil have a hierarchy of sorts based on age and size, and they never stop growing until they die, there exists one exception to this rule. The Elders, Sages, and Judges respectively are the categories of the third, second and first largest categories of Skettil. Each of these has a position of authority and a domain over which they are responsible for maintaining balance. As such, they have a sound of authority they make in order to announce use of their authority in the most trying of times. This sound, or rather its onomatopoeia, acts as a name for these esteemed Skettil.
Lastly and most importantly to me, they are all one gender. Each Skettil has a personal cycle of of going from asexual to an egg layer to asexual to an egg fertilizer. All of this happens by laying and spraying eggs in a method that is actually one of the least upsetting things to watch a Skettil do when not completely compact. That all said, Skettil have learned of other genders besides their unigender and have come to understand the concept of gender identity. The entire population of Skettil in the known universe have since come out as identifying as a race of men, despite having no genetic male of their species. Thus, these giant beetle puppies are also all transgender. As such, they have become a symbol of transgender pride in Universe 78735-Zala.

“Stay Tuned…”: A Follow-Up

Alright, boys and girls, here is what we’ve come up with so far, loosely organized by channel and then a MISC section for everything else. I know this whole thing might not add up to any super-special mystery, but it’s fun to talk about, no? And, as one of the commenters brought up, Gerard did say he wanted it to be something fun.
So! What’s been guessed at so far:
Channel 0: I’m referring to the blank yellow channel that appears to be off, but still shows some kind of signal. It’s like the “home” channel.
RFDD: Looks like your standard issue NTSC Test Pattern or Test Card, down to that annoying single high-pitched beeeeeeeeeeee… No idea what the acronym/abbreviation might mean, though.
BLND: Screen also looks like a Test Card, but more in the style of the Indian Style Test Card, except it’s got a smiling mouse-like creature that appears to have a bullet hole through the head. (I could be wrong?) Tumblr User Leedek suggested that BLND might stand for “Bland”, as in elevator music. The song is likely in the bossa nova style (and decidedly not that bland) but nobody’s been able to figure out what the name of it is yet. It also appears to start out loud but progressively fade as the song continues.
WKIL: Thermal imaging of a man seen from the profile view. If you stay on this screen long enough, the man will change various colors, eventually looping back to the starting point. There’s also a lot of static noise going on, but underneath it one can ear the sound of a drumbeat similar to “Cemetery Drive”, along with possibly the sound of horns or someone singing. User Clarev raised the question that perhaps it has to do with announcing the arrival of a new drummer. Personally, I think it’s more about announcing their return to their more punkish roots after the huge theatrical performance that was The Black Parade. It could be both. It could be nothing. Who knows? Also, no idea what the acronym/abbreviation might mean.
KLSK: Leedek suggested that perhaps this stands for “Classic”, and it rather makes sense. The screen features what is either a radioactive symbol or one of those old-school recording reels. It’s also got “KLSK” written on one of the yellow “rays” while the other two look either muddy or bloody. Also, I feel kind of old for knowing this (though I’m only 23), but the song playing is America’s “A Horse with no Name”. It’s actually a pretty cool jam.
HRBT: Another Test Card screen! I’ve got no similarity equivalent for this one, although I did think for a while that it looked a bit like Test Card F. (If you’ve seen the British show Life on Mars, you might recognize the girl and doll in the middle.) They don’t really look that much alike, though… A couple of you suggested that this abbreviation is for “Heartbeat”, especially since it features what appears to be a lifeline barely visible in the middle of the Test Card, and the beeping sounded perhaps like a heart monitor. Others of you suggested that it probably wasn’t a heart monitor, since that would be so 2006. XD I initially thought it might’ve been Morse Code, but I quickly tossed that out when it only produced gibberish. My history of spending time in hospitals says it does sound familiar, especially since real electrocardiograms (aka, heart monitors) tend not to sound the way they do on TV. (No patient would be able to sleep if they did!) It makes me think of those machines that measure pulse, blood pressure and the body’s oxygen level. The name of it escapes me right now.
MISC: User Eric Lee pointed out that the counters go up to 59 and then restart. Does that mean it’s a clock? (There was also a comment about Halloween, but I didn’t quite understand the connection. I’m sorry. D:) There’s also the fact that the counters are counting up, at various speeds, as opposed to counting down to something. There’s also still the acronym/abbreviation of PTTP on the bottom…
Questions: - What exactly is the machine? Is it a portable television? A radio? Some futuristic alien scanner? - Why are they delighting in melting our brains? - Has anyone thought of scouring the internet to see if any side sites have popped up? I remember during The Great TBP Mystery of 2006, that in addition to the main MCR site, there was a side site for The Black Parade that was all sorts of weird for a while. (It’s since gone down completely, along with the creepy variation that was just a dead flatline around the time that The Black Parade is Dead! came out. Maybe there’s something hiding out there? I’ve got the Disqus comment app enabled, and it has OpenID, so you can probably sign in with your Tumblr. (Plus, it offers more word/character space! :D) Don’t pay too much attention to the question at the end of this long post; I just needed a way to enable answers again for those more comfortable using that. (But if you get the reference, you win an internet cookie.) ETA: I was skimming other Tumblr posts and found this take on the WKIL channel from user Wind-Addiction: WKIL - a very strange one: there’s a heatscan-looking image of the silhouette of a man’s head along with a bar of colors. the man changes colors/heats up and cools down over the course of a few minutes. someone suggested the cooling of the body means he’s dead. someone said that the channel is the name of an old pirate radio station called WeKill from the 80s. another said the man was alfred Hitchcock. idk. audio is radio static fading in and out, beeps, possibly some music in the background, which would confirm the pirate radio theory.

Some of this information is now outdated, but it still offers a great description of the mysterious transmitter and the different images and recordings. It’s also a perfect example of the mystery and scrutiny that defined the beginning of the DD era.

Armament(s):
• 3-slot Grenade Rack Stored on the right hip of the Zaku for convenient access are three hand grenades. The Zaku Kai's grenades were more compact than the "cracker" grenades used by the original Zaku. While not very powerful or accurate, they're capable of performing different roles in the battle.
• Shoulder Shield The shield is a simple defense used to block most incoming ballistic and explosive projectiles. Also used to great effect in close quarters battle with enemy mobile suits. The Zaku II Kai mounts a shield on its right shoulder.
• MMP-80 90mm Machine Gun The upgraded version of the MMP-78 120mm Machine Gun. It used 90mm bullets instead of 120mm type, allowing for a greater speed of firing and a higher rate of penetration. The machine gun is magazine-fed with 32 rounds per mag. The MMP-80 was also integrated with a grenade launcher under its barrel for more firepower.
• Grenade Launcher The MMP-80 is fitted with an underslung grenade launcher. The grenade wasn't very effective against large ships, but was an ideal mid-range anti-mobile suit weapon.
• 120mm Machine Gun The 120mm machine gun is a standard weapon for Zaku type mobile suits. It is a shell firing gun that does not require energy to be used, however its effectiveness against heavy armor is very limited. It holds 100 rounds per drum with spare drums that can be stored on waist armor racks.
• Heat Hawk An axe-shaped close combat weapon, it uses a super-heated blade to cut through the armor of enemies and/or vehicles. The thermal energy is generated by the power output of the Zaku II's thermonuclear reactor and relayed through the armored hands. The Heat Hawk used by Zaku II Kai is modified with an extendable handle for longer reach in close quarter combat.
• Heat Sword A melee weapon originally developed for the Gouf line of mobile suits. Like the Zaku's heat tomahawk the heat sword is a blade that is heated to high temperatures in order to increase it's cutting capacity. The Heat Sword was designed after a broadsword so its blade is longer than the tomahawk allowing for a greater range of attack.
• H&L-SB25K/280mmA-P Zaku Bazooka The 280mm Zaku Bazooka was another standard weapon that could be equipped to a Zaku type mobile suit. The bazooka fired explosive rounds that were quite effective against the armor of Earth Federation mobile suits and battleships.
• Sturm Faust An explosive weapon with a rocket propelled warhead, it was designed before the beginning of the One Year War as an anti-ship weapon. Useful both in space and under gravity, it was mainly deployed for anti-ship attacks. The Sturm Faust likely made a good anti-armor suit weapon, could be equipped with both a Sturm Faust and a more typical ranged weapon for greater versatility. As a non-guided weapon, it is difficult to hit targets with high mobility.
• Shield The shield is a thick sheet of armor designed to take severe punishment that would normally destroy a mobile suit. Since the introduction of beam weaponry, shields have been treated with an anti-beam coating allowing it to withstand several beam shots before the coating wears off. Typically physical shields can only take so much damage before they succumb to the pressure and break.

The Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces did not register the use of Su-57 aircraft by Russians in the territory of Ukraine.

Primary investigation on ram-rotor detonation engine
Detonation is a supersonic combustion wave, characterized by a shock wave driven by the energy release from closely coupled chemical reactions. It is a typical form of pressure gain combustion, converting chemical energy into thrust efficiently. The concept of harnessing detonation to improve thermodynamic cycle efficiency and enhance the performance of aerospace propulsion systems has been a subject of interest for many years. Since the 1950s, various types of detonation engines have been proposed, including pulse detonation engines, oblique detonation engines, and rotating detonation engines. However, these three types of detonation engines encounter challenges such as poor thrust continuity, high starting Mach numbers, and insufficient performance gains, which limit the widespread application of detonation propulsion technology.
In a recent article featured in the Chinese Journal of Aeronautics, Dr. Haocheng Wen and Prof. Bing Wang from Tsinghua University proposed a new concept for detonative propulsion, called the Ram-Rotor Detonation Engine, which is expected to break through the limitations of the above-mentioned detonation engines.
“The original intention of developing this new engine is to improve the structures of rotating detonation engines,” said Dr. Haocheng Wen, “this concept is also inspired by the ram-rotor compressor.” The ram-rotor detonation engine, abbreviated as RRDE, mainly consists of a rotating rotor with blades, and a stationary casing. The blades on the rotor are distributed in a helical symmetric manner. The combustible mixture undergoes compression, detonation combustion, and expansion within the variable cross-sectional channels between the blades.
The authors performed primary theoretical and numerical investigation on the RRDE. They established a theoretical model to analyze the relationship between the propulsion performance and parameters such as inlet velocity, rotor rim velocity, and equivalence ratio. It is indicated that for the stoichiometric hydrogen/air mixture, the total pressure gain of RRDE can exceed 3. Furthermore, they also conducted numerical simulations on the typical structure of RRDE and obtained the characteristic flow field and propulsion performance of engine. Their simulation results demonstrate that the detonation wave can stabilize and remain stationary within the blades by the given configuration, and can adapt to the variations in parameters such as the equivalence ratio within a certain range. “Our study primarily verifies the performance benefits and operation feasibility of the RRDE.” said Dr. Haocheng Wen.
The authors believe that the RRDE has several advantages, including a simple and compact structure, high efficiency, and the adaptability to a wide-range of flight Mach number. However, they also candidly acknowledge that the realization of the RRDE is confronted with numerous challenges that demand resolution, such as the stabilization mechanism of detonation wave, supersonic boundary layer interference, implementation of high-speed rotor, as well as thermal protection, etc. “Our team is conducting ongoing research on key scientific and engineering issues in RRDE.” said Prof. Bing Wang. They expect the RRDE can provide high-performance propulsion for the supersonic vehicles in the future.
