Guang had been communicating with the captain of the Papyrus to ensure that everything was within suitable parameters for Guang’s adopted human, Fern. It had been difficult because Papyrus' “human expert” had very different ideas about what “suitable for a human” meant, much to Guang’s frustration.

@/papyrus Humans’ hearing isn’t that sensitive. Could not the human stay in the hold? @/guang "the human" is a guest of your ship so no. And I assure you, Fern’s hearing is marvelous. It is equivalent to a udito. Test again with a device set to that sensitivity.

A read notification, but no response. Why did so many beings think they knew what Fern needed? Not all humans were the same. Papyrus’ staff would comply in the end, Guang knew. No matter how frustrated they were, they wouldn’t want to anger Guang’s partner.

And no matter how much time it took, Guang would ensure that the trip would be as comfortable as possible for Fern. They had been on ships with her before. However, without accommodations it, was painful for her.

Guang knew humanity had a reputation for adaptability and make-do, but human neurology was more vast that it had known. Through Fern, it learned that some human brains worked differently than others when it came to processing sensory input, demands, change, and information. Guang had not worked with many humans besides her, so it was surprised by the pushback it was receiving from beings who assumed humanity was a monolith. 

They would never assume all space fae or centi were alike, so what was it about humans that spread such myths and made beings comfortable with such generalizations? Guang would later find out that humans themselves were not guiltless in this. Many of them enjoyed playing up their reputations as “space orcs," being known as unkillable endurance machines was not a bad thing for most.

Every week I watch the new Frieren episode, and every week I go a little insane over all the moments Frieren and Fern have in the OP and ED. (This is just the second opening and ending, I'm not even going to touch the first ones.)

The outro is even better. Frieren starts off alone.

She's lying by a gravestone, at night.

Then we have the section with the sculpted figures. Frieren reaches for a blue flower- it hasn't bloomed yet, but any blue flower is going to bring to mind the Blue-Moon Weed, Himmel's favorite flower.

There's been a butterfly following Frieren around for a while. It lands on the flower.

Himmel has an association with butterflies, since there's one on the ring he gave Frieren, but Fern arguably has a stronger association with them. Fern's butterfly pin makes an appearance earlier in the outro, and the pin transforms into the butterfly that follows Frieren.

We also have this shot of Fern and many blue butterflies in the intro.

The butterfly and the blue flower transform into a girl with long hair and a long dress. The sculpted figures are almost completely white, so we don't see Fern's distinctive purple hair, but the figure resembles her regardless.

The line of the song that plays when the butterfly and the flower transform into Fern is: その涙だって大丈夫 きっと夜が明けるよ "It's okay to cry, the dawn will surely come." This is a line referencing past grief but also showing hope for the future, and it's so poignant that it occurs while a symbol representing Himmel (past) and a symbol potentially representing both Himmel and Fern transforms into Fern (present/future).

Finally, we get a beautiful shot that starts on a blue flower, now fully opened-

and pans up to Frieren lying down, like she was earlier, but this time on Fern's lap.

It's daytime now, instead of night, and if the image has retained its quality, you might see Frieren has the most unbelievably tender expression on her face.

What this tells me, is that Frieren absolutely loved Himmel, in her own asexual-aromantic elf way, and that she also loves Fern, in much the same way.

I've been noticing Himmel and Fern parallels all over the place and I barely get into any of them here. If I included every moment in the actual show where it's obvious how much Fern and Frieren care about each other I would be here all day.

🌱 New Plants & Old Plants 🌱

So today I went to a garden centre and got two new plants - a String-of-Pearls and a Hart's Tongue Fern. Meet Audrey and Apollo.

Audrey got her name from Audrey Hepburn's iconic pearl necklace from Breakfast At Tiffany's.

Apollo is a homage (a sibling, if you will), to a different fern I used to have (Bird's Nest - same Asplenium genus, different species), called Hermes. I miss my og leafy boy so so terribly, and I thought it would be nice to keep up with the greek name tradition for this one.

They are hanging above my desk, where they get plenty of sunlight (not directly). Apollo's leaves are well accommodated, so no worries there. Not sure if I want to make it his permanent place, but for now it's perfect.

Meanwhile, I have moved my shelf plants down, to see if they can get more sunlight, and I'm trying to revive one of my succulent's roots.

We got Bino (Burro's Tail), Chamuça and it's little offspring Kaka Poopoo (Haworthia Tortuosa), and Pietro (Haworthia Aristata).

Bino was growing really nicely but when I moved him to this room, he did NOT like the extra cold months and literally dropped like half of its leaves 🫤

Turns out my shelves are a tad too high for the plants and they don't get enough light there. Hopefully now that they're down (and facing the window directly) they will be good. The two spiky Haworthias have been thriving tbh, but I think they'll appreciate the extra light.

Pietro tho.... That dawg was planted too low on his vase, so even though he had good drainage, he just did not get enough sunlight and the roots rotted and fell off. I gave it a good bath, removed the dead ones, and am keeping him in water for the foreseeable future until more roots grow and he is ready to go back to soil.

Okay okay so for the ask game: 1 and 3 for Amanita and Yagoda, 5 and 14 for Amanita and Pokora and 6 and 12 for Yagoda and the character in the pinned comic. I'm asking a lot so you don't have to answer all of it if you don't wanna.

hi thank you for the questions and sorry it took a while >,> For Amanita and Yagoda: 1. How did they meet? At around the time Yagoda has finished her journey to the court of the Mistress (as mentioned here), a particular rumor has started circulating around the towns and villages of Nav*. A ridiculous, tall tale about people rising from their graves. News spread around, and soon enough the druids also caught wind of it. Now, the druids are generally hermits who don’t shove their noses into others’ business, but a rumor like that would probably rile them up even if their way of life already turned them into a bunch of trees. And so, Amanita sets off. As it happens, the investigation also leads her to the same court as Yagoda. Amanita doesn’t deal in deception or half-truths, so she immediately spilled the beans to her on exactly why she’s there. *i realised i didn't think much about names of geographical locations. nav is a (possibly placeholder) name for the region most events take place. 3. What were their first impressions of each other? How does that compare to their impressions of each other now? Frankly I’d say their relationship has not started off smooth. There were just a few things about Amanita that didn’t really add up in Yaga’s mind. She wears the attire of a common girl, and yet she’s very familiar with scientific names of plants and mushrooms. Granted, the Book of Assorted Magic and Mysticism Practices might be an outdated resource, but if it was to be trusted - the druid circles comprise mainly village people of minimum or no education. If Amanita really was a druid, wouldn’t she call herself Muchomůrka or something? This is a trick, surely this is a conspiracy- Amanita’s first impression of Yagoda was… that she looks fifteen. When she snuck into the court records (“crimes aren’t crimes if they serve the greater good!”) and found out that a mage arrived there suspiciously close to when the rumors started, she was halfway expecting for the investigation to be over. But when she met Yaga, she was like “what is this kid doing here?” and dropped her suspicions. Currently, Yagoda thinks of Amanita as eccentric and even slightly cryptic, but ultimately harmless and, secretly, is happy to be friends with another girl (since most of her social circle is guys and Very Scary Women). Amanita also thinks positively about Yaga, although she still treats her like someone she needs to be a role-model for, rather than equals. amanita as a role model,,,, she's a good person I guess, but more in a chaotic good way. "is stealing actually wrong let's discuss" also yaga is not fifteen she's like nineteen

For Amanita and Pokora: 5. Do they get along? Why or why not?

They do. And it’s actually a bit unusual, I guess. Would you believe if I said that little ol’ pious Pokora is a pretty controversial figure amongst the circles of druids? In the eyes of the elders, they are too lenient and trample the tradition by letting city folk and travellers from other lands in on their secrets. In the eyes of their own underlings, they are still too passive - and frankly, they don’t have the best track record of picking their subordinates. Amanita thinks it’s unfair to treat Pokora like they have all the answers in the world. Asking yourself why you believe something is right, instead of just accepting it because it’s right, it’s just good for your soul, y’know? And she herself has also been getting some glares for having a scholarly background. Amanita is hands down Pokora’s favourite student. 14. Do they share the same goals in life? Hmm… in a way. It’s a common ideology among druids and other practitioners of plant-based magic that to live in peace with the outer world is to live in peace with your inner world. But while Pokora has little interest in everyday human squabbles and would be happier strolling on mountains and petting mountain goats, Amanita thinks of humans as an integral part of nature. That’s why she goes out and uses magic she learnt to ensure people’s safety and wellbeing. Pokora gives her the green light to do whatever she needs to do, but they can’t exercise the same empathy. Maybe it’s something to do with their kamzik nature. I'm gonna make an educated guess that the character in the comic meant the blue lizard guy so in that case: For Yagoda and Kirik: 6. Do they have any shared interests/hobbies? Do they ever do these hobbies together? The two of them met in a somewhat “professional” setting, so their friendship started due to convenience rather than any shared hobby. That being said, Kirik tries to relate to Yaga’s interest in magic by, let’s say, comparing potion making to cooking. Soup is witchcraft.

12. Do they have any affection for each other? How do they show it? It’s pretty easy to see if Yaga likes someone or not, because if she didn’t, she wouldn’t pay any mind to them beyond one word answers to questions. She would like to reward him for his hospitality by teaching him a spell or two. Sadly, he’s just not that magically inclined. But he’s welcome to look through her book anytime. It’s much harder to tell if Kirik likes someone or is just being nice. In fact, an outsider might not be able to tell that at all. But one thing that Yaga noticed is that the more Kirik likes someone, the more his way of talking changes from “what would you like to do?” to “here’s what I’m doing, you can join if you’d like”.
