The Morgan State University Marching Band playing the Stars and Stripes Forever by John Phillip Sousa at the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of D-Day in Normandy, France. Morgan State is the first HBCU band to be invited to perform at this annual ceremony and parade. The band performed in the 2019 Macy's parade and I saw them live at the collegiate marching band festival in Allentown in 2018.
Stars and Stripes is the official national march of the United States of America. Included below is another chart from the performance, Talkin Out the Side of Your Neck by Cameo, which is a popular HBCU staple.

Tyler, The Creator & Sexyy Red Stunned By HBCU Marching Band’s Epic ‘Sticky’ Cover
Tyler, The Creator and Sexyy Red are quite impressed after an HBCU marching band played their own rendition of the pair’s collab, “Sticky.” During the Jackson State Tigers’ game against the Alabama State Hornets over the weekend, Jackson’s Sonic Boom of the South marching band performed a live version of the CHROMAKOPIA cut, which also features GloRilla and Lil Wayne. 50 Cent Slammed For…

I chose to play at the inauguration over my relationship
I attend Mississippi Valley State University and I play trumpet in the marching band. My girl told me that if we played at Trump's inauguration, she was leaving me. And she made good on her promise. And now I feel like a fucking idiot for doing so, let alone supporting him in secret. HBCU events are being canceled across the country now because of the anti DEI orders ordered by President Trump. And my grocery prices are also going up. I spent more on groceries this week alone than I have in all of December. I feel so fucking stupid.

I loved the Chromakopia album! A lot! To me it feels like a love letter to the black kids and youth while also balancing Tyler's own interpersonal struggles behind the scenes.
So many of these songs being blasted at HBCU's, high school and college marching bands...a celebration of blackness! I feel like that's why so many of these songs are made with horns and brass with strong beats that anyone can just bang out on a table near you. And all the while We have people opening up about their relationships with their estranged parents (or abusive parents), or relating to how social media culture had dehumanized us all, including celebrities!
There's so much to analyze about this album, I think it all ties back into black identity. Him being treated like a zoo animal in public, the way kinky hair is supposed to be 'tamed' to appease white sentiments, the reason WHY he has to come out with the "I'm black, weird and proud!" type music, and not to mention him coming out with all these new up-incoming rappers (I see you Teezo Touchdown I see you Doechii I SEE YOU GLORILLA), and the classics/greats (Schoolboy Q, lil Wayne, Daniel Caesar)
I highly recommend it! And I highly recommend engaging with analysis about it too!
