he's happy to hug him again, it felt like a true blast from the past, one he was happy to relive. he can remember asking marshall time and time again where he was, if he was okay, why he didn't visit anymore. he can't really recall marshall's answers, but he can remember vividly the sadness that losing his friend had evoked. "yeah, i know. i got old." he chuckles then, pulling back to look at him again. "how have you been? where have you been - marsh never gave me a straight answer." he snorts, nudging his eldest brother's bicep. he really had no idea, he rarely had any idea about anything unless he was told first hand. marshall looks awkward, and it causes winnie to frown, but he's soon taken in by the sight he hadn't ever anticipated seeing again. "you should join us all for a drink!" he begins, before pointing towards pacey. "that's my boyfriend, you absolutely need to meet him. he's cool, you'll like him."

"that's good. i always liked how close you were. i'm glad you still have that." he had been so envious of it when they were together, how marshall had all these best friends just like that. he wished he'd had that, even just one. his morals hadn't changed through the years and he was proud of that. it was probably quite a small thing to be proud of but there wasn't much else foster felt he could be proud of, so he had to latch on where he could. foster turns when he hears his name being called and he laughs in pure disbelief. "you've got to be kidding me." he wraps winston up in a hug, squeezing him close. "there is no fucking way," he mutters, hands resting against his arms to hold him back so he can look at him. "no way you're telling me this grown man was my tiny best friend." he draws him back in for another hug, tears welling in his eyes. as if it hadn't been bad enough to lose the love of his life, he lost his entire family as well. it was a huge loss, impossibly hard for him to swallow.

I have now been a Beatles disciple for fully half of my life. They are my musical, artistic, and stylistic Big Bang, and it’s strange how an entity so preposterously huge and universally known/ loved could still feel like my special thing. He couldn’t eat --- the medical science that coursed through him often had adverse side effects. An inability to always have his food settle was one, as it seemed. Instead he focused on moving it about it plate just enough to appear picked at --- hoping to pass the rest as being too tired to eat. For he knew how it would play out if Spock knew the truth, and the Vulcan had simply stuck his neck out for him too frequently as he adjusted on board the ship. So, he pretended to be focused as Spock told him about some research of his --- trying not to show his unsettled feelings.

"i think you might be right," he admits, giddy at the thought of finally being alone with him. lips ghost against foster's own, one hand grasping at his hip, the other holding firm against the wall. he breathes him in, teasing him a little before allowing their mouths to crash together perfectly.

foster snorts, reaching out to grab at the front of marshall's shirt. "i think we can find something to do with our time alone," he says quietly, tugging marshall towards him as his back meets the wall.
