2. Is there a trope you’ve yet to try your hand at, but really want to?

hmmmm i keep thinking about ghosts. that was true anyway (thai media is great at thoughtful ghost stories) and then peaceful property started eating my brain every wednesday (note: just an expression. this is still about ghosts, not zombies) and now it's even true-er. but i also don't particularly want to kill any of my blorbos so i don't know, i don't know. maybe i need to start seriously thinking about original fiction again, so i'm not really killing anyone because the person has been dead the whole time on some level.

or, alternately. this could be a sign i just need to write some due south fic. built-in ghosts! in hindsight, maybe my newfound love for ghost stories with a kind view of the world was way more predictable than i thought.

12. Is there an episode above all others that inspires you just a little bit more?

i mean, i think i HAVE to answer h50 s07e08 Hana Komo Pae (Rite of Passage). i can't NOT say h50 s07e08 Hana Komo Pae (Rite of Passage) after writing three different fics about it.

16. If you only could write one pairing for the rest of your life, which pairing would it be?

you are being a little mean, but only a little, because while i do sort of want to say starsky & hutch, i think the only real and true answer has to be steve & danny. even if it's purely because they're incredibly easy to write and come with a lot more easily accessible nuances in their canon relationship because. we get 10 seasons (which is more than 4. math.), and modern episodic media still allows ever so slightly more change and growth than 70s episodic media.

23. If you were to revise one of your older fics from start to finish, which would it be and why?

i actually did almost do something like this last year! somewhere in my drafts there's a half-written version of a sort of. counterpart/rewrite of my very first h50 fic ever, Wanted: parter (in crime), which i was going to post on the 30th of august 2023, exactly five years after i posted that fic, which was also the five year anniversary (minus a few days) of when i started watching the show. the reason it didn't happen is that i didn't remotely make my self-imposed deadline, and now i may need to wait for the ten year anniversary of Wanted.

and for a sillier answer: i'd rewrite Tell me the sky is falling now but i'd keep everything the same and not really rewrite it at all but take out/change one (1) line i didn't like much when i posted it and that now continues to bother me every time i reread it but also doesn't bother me ENOUGH that i've actually sat down to change it after the fact, which i generally don't do with posted works unless there's something actually wrong with them.

(the line is "Hutch takes a single glass down from the cupboard – he prefers it when he’s not trying to be cool and streetwise, but Starsky doesn’t mind drinking straight from the can – and opens the fridge without looking over his shoulder even once." and it's not actively terrible but i think i just needed something there from hutch to break up starsky's bits of dialogue and i ended up with a really clunky random fact that i suppose implies something about hutch's character but i'm not even sure i agree with it and i think there are a million ways this could have been smoother or more streamlined or just replaced by some other little sidenote. but also. it doesn't really matter. and it's not that bad. i just know i felt unsure about it, which makes me dread getting to that part, which makes me like it even less. these poor words never stood a chance.)

More about the pairings and my feels under the cut

1. First Ship ↳ Sorsha/Madmartigan (Willow)

That’s the first on-screen couple which I was interested about in terms of them ending up together. I was still a kid then, but I remember hoping they become a couple at the end of the movie.

2. First OTP ↳ Liz/Michael (Roswell)

And first rare pair at that, ha! The original Roswell was my first fandom I ever wrote any fics for and these two were my thing. I don’t even remember how it came to be, tbh. I just never liked Max and somehow any other canon boyfriend Liz had was never satisfying. Also I think I had a phase for brooding, lonely type that Michael represented. Teenage years, what can I say.

3. Current Fave Ship ↳ Geralt/Yen (The Witcher)

Loved them in books and thankfully the show didn’t disappoint. Sure, I think some things could’ve been improved, but overall I’m not complaining much. And I can’t wait for what season two will bring.

4. Your Ship Since the First Minute ↳ Cath/Steve (H50)

The scene in the gif isn’t their first onscreen scene, I just chose it because it’s one of my fave. But really, the moment Steve mentioned Cath in season one and we got a short glimpse of her, I was instantly “I need more of her. And of the two of them.” And my love grew stronger the more fandom hated on her (and boy, they were absolutely disgusting and awful).

5. Ship You Wish Had Been Endgame ↳ Clarke/Bellamy (The 100)

I admit I didn’t even watch the final season, but I’ve checked what happens and I was not impressed. They’ve built them up and allowed them growth only to fuck it up in the end. Disappointing. For me they had amazing chemistry and deserved to be the endgame.

6. Ship You Wish Was Canon ↳ Finn/Poe (Star Wars)

Listen, when I saw the movie for the first time I fell head over heels for Finn and Poe. I had high hopes for them in the next movies. Though a part of me knew Disney won’t have the balls to show a lot, I did hope to have them on the first lines and developing further. Instead, not only their relationship, but also characters individually were done so wrong.

7. Ship that Most of the Fandom Hates, but You Love

↳ Bucky/Peggy (MCU)

Listen, you can try to pry Bucky and Peggy from my cold, dead hands, but even then I won’t give up. They are my most precious rare pair and I will die on that hill. First of all, they’re too amazing not to ship them. Secondly, I wholeheartedly believe they’d have an amazing relationship if they got more screen time together. As a ship maybe they’re not exactly hated by fandom, but they’re not popular at all. The saddest part is that Bucky fans majorly hate on Peggy and vice versa, all because of Steve who canonically loves them both. I’m just like Steve - I love them both.

8. You Don’t Even Watch the Show, but You Ship It ↳ David/Patrick (Schitt’s Creek)

I haven’t seen a single episode of the show (yes, yes, I know it’s great and all, I just never had the opportunity to see it), but I saw many gifs on my dash. Including those of David and Patrick, and I find them cute.

9. Ship That You Wish Had a Different Storyline ↳ Jax/Tara (Sons of Anarchy)

Yeah, I wish they had a storyline that didn’t include Tara’s death! Also wish all that post-prison stuff in a way perished. Honestly, I wish they had a different storyline post season 3/4, instead of becoming darker, colder, more awful. The edgy, brutal atmosphere of the show became too much and was overdone at that point, in my opinion.

10. Fave Ship That’s Endgame ↳ Peggy/Steve (MCU)

How could I not pick them?! :) They’re the ship of ships. My greatest treasure. Love of my life. Some people move on from ship to ship, but for me they’re endgame and always will be. And they got their well deserved happy ending.

currently watching: Pretty much caught up on everything we started watching. Finished Das Boot (2018) and were blown away by season 2: so much suspense, such great actors, so many emotions, wow! Waiting for Shameless season 11 to be available here in Germany. Catching new episodes of 9-1-1′s season 4 as they are published. (On a sidenote: why are there only dubbed versions available as of recently? We tried watching Leverage in German and it just. doesn’t. fucking. work. Same for 9-1-1 Lone Star. I want to see the original versions, please!!!)

I too am unhappy with the htgawm finale. It kinda made me feel.... nothing. All the other season finale's were a better build up. Idk this just felt off. I especially don't understand why Laurel would become friends with analise enough so that christopher would wanna be just like her and laurel would let him. Also i'm a coliver shipper but by the end i felt like they both deserved better. Idk if i loved or hated michaela's ending and lead up sigh. frank/Laurel was a super sad but good move tho

i think my biggest issue outside of Frank and Bonnie being more or less Bonnie and Clyde’d was how empty it all felt, as well. hollow maybe the better word? forced in a ‘we’ve got no time left so we’re just gonna make this flashbackforward montage-y sequence and hope it’s enough’ way. AND I USUALLY LOVE A MONTAGE. all of my favorite shows have done them. the songs usually get stuck in my head for months after (or in H50′s case, forever) and they’re a pretty special moment when done with some respect and care.

and i don’t want to sound too ungrateful cos thank fucking god they didn’t kill Connor. or Oliver. but to go from ‘i want a divorce!’ in such a... ground shaking (and ffs hugely important) argument to them being old men seemingly happy and still married at the end is a huge whiplash-y moment. why didn’t they make the montage longer? show us more of everyone’s story? more context, more 3 or 4 second moments from the last, what, 40some years or whatever time has passed. for as schtick-and-headline worthy as that last minute were, that time could’ve been better spent on the montage bit. this show has been so character driven, and then to show none of that respect in the final moments of the show?? bleh.

also why the hell wasn’t this 2 hours? they had all the time in the world to plan how this was going to end, how could they not realize they’d need two hours?? why the fuck did they think THIS was the episode to use overly obvious foreshadowing in regards to Bonnie and Frank?? why do i keep asking questions i know i will never get the answers to??

JERRY’S BEEN SHOT. that’s not actually a surprise at this point in any way, but oh gosh, poor guy. “it hurts more than i thought it would.” oh no. :c

i’m confused though - grover’s there calling an ambulance, jerry is bleeding, steve is keeping pressure on the wound, but where’s danny? clutching his heart out of frame? OH WAIT he could be arresting ezra hassan, i suppose?

on screen: 2 weeks later. jfdkfjdk they resolved that cliffhanger in like, under thirty seconds.

love jerry’s longer curly hair! REALLY LOVE that jerry and junior are playing battleship, omg.

jerry thought about HIS DND BUDDIES WHEN HE GOT SHOT. i love him. (i’m also both worried about his mental health and glad they’re showing him actually feeling some repercussions from getting shot, aside from the flesh wound.)

tani and junior!!! are going to the opera!!! wonderful, i’m into it.

AH. here we have steve on his date, omfg. it all looks so pretty - the background, the restaurant, the date, steve. REALLY AWKWARD conversation though, fjdkfd. steve’s been hanging with danny too much - as soon as someone asks “what are you thinking” he just opens up his heart.

“it’s just crazy, you know. things that happen at work.” FDJKFDJF i’m glad he’s seeing that AFTER NINE YEARS.

DANNY CALLS. i’ve seen the clips that were drifting around tumblr, so i knew it was going to happen, but still. DANNY CALLS. IN THE MIDDLE OF STEVE’S DATE.

“i think it’s best,” steve says, about taking a phone call from danny while he’s in the middle of a first date with a really pretty woman who seems very kind about his total awkwardness, oh BOY

the WAY danny says “hi” just already has me in stitches. i die. and then steve’s “dude! i don’t know.” he sounds so frustrated! poor guy.

“words are kinda just, they’re falling out of my mouth, i don’t know why.” OH STEVE. also: that’s 80% of all fic in which steve finally confesses his feelings to danny ever. thank you, canon, for giving us a steve who is canonically prone to this.

“do you have any game at all?” danny asks, of steve, WHO HE IS CALLING IN THE MIDDLE OF A DATE. the co-dependency here is HIGH and it’s probably unhealthy but i’m enjoying it a lot, truly.

okay so, steve says “you’ve called twice, we haven’t even ordered!” and then DANNY SAYS “if you answered my texts, i wouldn’t have to call” and that’s just ALL SO BAD. they are TERRIBLE together and that woman should probably run far away.

danny! way to build up steve’s confidence on this date by telling him his thing is awkward and messing things up, holy shit.

I’M SCREAMING. “that was danny. who i love. very much.” I AM YELLING. YES. GOOD. PREMIUM CONTENT.

just. i love “i love you”s, okay. i love them. we got one (1) in s9 at the end of 9.01, but we’re off to a good start now in 10.01, with steve telling his frigging date that he loves danny, oh my.

IT GOT WORSE. i paused like, in the middle of steve’s sentence, and then as soon as i hit play the date said “sounds like my ex” and steve says “you know, it’s funny that you say that, because it’s kind of like a marriage” and uh, hello steve, i made a gifset about that the day before yesterday, thank you for giving me an update, but also just. wtf. wtf holy shit

i. i just. this is supposedly steve on a date with a woman being all heterosexual, but it’s really an extremely mcdanno scene, like ten times more than i was prepared for, wow.

real talk though, i’m almost certain this relationship isn’t going anywhere, but this woman seems really cool!!! i love her so far.

tani is actually enjoying the opera and junior seems to be paying more attention to her than the stage and i have no idea if this is actually an officially official date between them or if they’re still “just friends”, but it’s all so cute. and then, of course, some anonymous guy shows up with a sketchy briefcase that’s inevitably going to contain weapons, but oh well, it was nice for how long it lasted.

a slightly updated intro!!! katrina law is already in it (which i like) and the new group shot is kind of crowded but really nice, but fjdkfdjkdf they chose a really awkward moment where adam is supposedly typing something on the tech table but he’s REALLY OBVIOUSLY just randomly tapping his fingers on it. that’s going to haunt me. oh dear show runners, why.

danny... says steve was blowing his date, as they arrive on the crime scene that junior and tani found, and steve says he has a second date and danny goes “you got a second date?” incredulously and almost dismayed and that just really sounds like he WANTED steve to blow it. what is this, danny, setting steve up with a pretty woman from steve’s school to test him? see if he’ll say no and fall in your arms instead, and when he doesn’t, you’re disappointed?

even the lighting in this random stairwell gun fight chase scene is kind of pretty! the blue and red? i like it.

oh NO, steve, you’re not even ten minutes into a new season and you’re chasing some suicidally parcouring bad guy across roof tops and into a jump that’s REALLY going to give danny a heart attack, jesus.

fdjkfd danny telling steve that ten years ago he would’ve made that jump? telling him he’s forty? i’m not sure if that’s kind of mean or really good, but it might be both.

plot stuff happens, but i keep getting distracted by all the grey in steve’s beard and his new, longer hair. it’s good.

i like quinn’s introduction!!! i really do, more than i’d expected. and honestly, that déjà vu thing lenkov was talking about is very faint to me, to the point where it’s mostly just there because danny says it out loud in the text and then forcibly makes it so. they’re not in steve’s garage, it’s the wrong car they’re standing next to, there are three people instead of two and there’s no “one, two, three” and showing badges, but steve yeets his badge over the windshield of the car in quinn’s direction. the similarity isn’t that strong.

danny going “i gotta follow him” about steve and “i don’t know [shrugs]” about where they’re going is beautiful.

i’m about halfway through the episode now and steve and danny have spent SO MUCH time together and it’s really good but also has me slightly worried that they’re pushing all the steve&danny content for the entire season in one episode, omg. it’s good, though. i’m happy for now.

adam is still doing yakuza stuff. i get it, because it’s the one big thing they’ve given his character, but i do get kind of tired of it. he’s supposedly out, but every time they need it for plot reasons, he still has connections somewhere that are willing to help him for whatever reason.

and then quinn shows up and pulls a gun on adam, fjdkfd. listen, i know i said i was getting tired of him doing the yakuza thing over and over, but shooting him would be a little drastic.

danny: “this is good, we’re chasing a monster truck. that’s totally normal, right?” how is it that NOW they’re both suddenly realizing their lives are kind of crazy? they weren’t crazy before, guys? guys??

HAH, the guy in the truck drives over a dozen cars. that’s ridiculous, but a lot of fun, omg.

danny, when he finds tani and quinn in the same room at hq: “oh good, you two have met.” YES. MY SENTIMENTS. except i’m perhaps a little more exuberant about it. TWO MAIN FEMALE CHARACTERS IN ONE SCENE YES GOOD I LIKE THIS. we haven’t had this since... season 4, maybe? when catherine was briefly part of the team?

oh SHIT. danny: “are you sure you’re not related to steve in any way?” okay SO. we’re all assuming quinn is steve’s new love interest, but quinn being steve’s secret half sister somehow? also nonsense, but nonsense i’d like. and i mean, they need to keep the mcgarrett family drama alive somehow, so this could be fun.

quinn: “can’t this thing go any faster? [steve looks at her weird] what?” steve: “nothing. just never had that complaint before.” that is a LIE. i know for a fact that that’s a lie, because i have a stupid amount of knowledge of h50 of the top of my head and one of the things i know is that in 8.01 tani pops up between steve and danny while she’s in the backseat of the camaro and ALSO asks if it doesn’t go any faster. i know what they’re going for here, setting quinn and steve up as equals, and i like what they’re trying to tell us about quinn as a character in theory but come on, if you’re trying to convince us steve is all impressed by this woman that you might be setting him up with romantically, at least do some continuity fact checking on your own show, guys.

anyway! i do like that it’s canon that all women in five-0 think the camaro isn’t fast enough. get wrecked, steve and danny, HA.

when steve said to the bad guy “my friend lou here is going to put some handcuffs on you” i thought at first that he said “liu”, as in quinn’s last name, and oh man, first they had tani and junior’s last names as rey and reigns, which was close enough, but now they have lou and liu, gosh.

!!! this talk between steve and quinn in front of kamekona’s?? i LIKE IT. A LOT. we get to know a little more about quinn and steve genuinely does treat her as an equal and a capable colleague and there’s nothing especially romantic about this, which is good this early on even if they’re doing that later because i do feel like it could possibly work but right now it would just be really weird and very forced and i’m just really relieved that’s the dynamic they’re going for. this, this is good.

OH BOY. “we’re breaking up with you, danny” steve says. i... wow.

FAIR THOUGH. it’s probably a REALLY GOOD idea of steve to maybe involve danny a little less in his dating life if he wants to, well, actually have one that’s viable for life, but oh GOSH. danny going “you can’t cut me out” when steve tells him this? danny is just. so interested in steve’s romantic life, damn.

tani: “mom and dad are fighting again.” fdjkfdjk YES. this time it’s not even junior saying this to eddie behind steve and danny’s back, it’s just tani saying it out loud to the entire group and nobody says anything about it so uhhh that’s accepted fact then, within the team. GOOD.

ohhhh jerry is leaving. also not a real surprise and it’s probably kind of good that the team doesn’t endlessly keep growing if quinn joins this season, but ahh, i’m sad, anyway.

GROUP HUG. i love EVERY SINGLE THING ABOUT THIS.

oh gooood, somebody put a bomb in the champ box in steve’s garage. that’s harsh.

final thoughts: i LIKED THIS. very much!!! i’m relieved about that, tbh, because at least i’m happy about the start of the season, which seems like a good sign, haha. i love quinn so far, there was REALLY GREAT mcdanno stuff in this, i love that steve is dating again, tani and junior seem to be dating, jerry is fairly healthy and happy - all around lots of good stuff.

i do kind of think that cliffhanger from last season got extremely little attention (we didn’t even see ezra hassan get arrested, and what happened to her kid? where was danny? idk it was weirdly short and quick), but it’s still possible they’re coming back to that in a later episode, idk.

Oh me too, I hate that we have to split entire comments over several asks. Yeah I'm not gonna lie, it is stressful especially imo if you move somewhere else where you don't have family or know anyone at first, and on top of that with anxiety/depression, it's def not the best mixture. But I actually do like the idea of living abroad; I'd love to have stayed home, but apart from my family, it really hasn't much to offer. Oh yeah, I think they should all cut us some slack 1/4

Oh man that sucks. I've only watched bits of HF 0 here and there, probs only from the first few seasons (because that network back home repeats a lot of the initial seasons of pretty much every show it broadcasts, and I never actually know when they air the recent seasons), so I'm def not caught up with anything, but man that sucks. I hate it when characters have gone through a huge character development over several seasons and at the last minute the producers decide to ruin everything 2/4 Oh yeah and channel four hasn't aired all of s7 from B99. Sometimes I'm quite surprised that back home there's quite a good number of shows that are only about 2 weeks behind the American schedule, considering how late everything usually arrives in Europe. I've sort of been rewatching 911 by forcing my mum to watch it back home and then commenting on it with her. I know what you mean; I felt empty when TGP ended. Oh sorry about the spoilers. For me, B99 and TGP are great companions 3/4 I feel like tumblr keeps eating the last ask. I think I was meaning to say that B99 and TGP are comfort shows for me too. Like the perfect shows to have playing on the background. And oh yeah, now that pretty much every network is delaying its shows until Jan 2021 or later, maybe now's the time to actually start a new show, not that I think my brain will do it, because whenever I have the change, it just decides to rewatch something 4/4

I do love H50 but yeah this season’s been a bit... interesting. I brought my mother the entire box set (well S1-9) so we had the most of it anyway, and then S10 was on NowTV so, we’ve managed to watch it all. But yeah! He had this huggeeee redemption arc and then they just ... fucked it up in the last season and I’m beyond salty about it.  Yeah, we tend to usually get things so late in England, which is why I usually stream things to avoid spoilers. 

Yeah! That’s why I’m avoiding the end episodes, think I’m still indenial about it. It’s cool, I’m used to the spoilers, I don’t usually mind them, but it kinda gave away the entire season lmao. Still not as bad when someone spoiled Endgame for me though (I was so mad). 

They really are!! It’s nice to just have them on in the background, and Tumblr definitely tends to eat so many asks.

I do think I need to start something new, I just gotta figure out what!

About McDanno - what’s new

My day started with a text I received from a friend, who’s dying to talk about the new episode. So, when I’ve watched it I should let them know because - urgent. I got already nervous about H50 9.15.

I watched it and I normally don’t ponder for too long. There is always this instant instinct, hitting me with the right notion. So, I sat down and wrote my post about Danny and Rachel.

I need to lay my soul bare for a moment here. Today I’ve discussed Danny and Rachel, Danny and Steve and I can’t stop thinking about certain points and topics that I touched during my discussion with other shippers and friends. It’s about Steve and Danny, the past and the future in H50 and maybe this is just a summary of my racing thoughts with not much sense in it. But I have to get it out of my head.

It’s especially about the development of the show. What was then and what do we have now. Past and future. I read so often how much everyone misses the good old days. And let me tell you something, I miss them, too because the good old days are always better. Everything was new and unknown and not worn, or well fitting, or we weren’t used to it. We’re nine years later and evolution and change can’t be held off.

Okay, here we go.

Do I miss the old days from season1 to season 4? Yes, I do. I rewatch all seasons, currently occupied with season 2 and I’m excited and pumped with adrenaline. I’m full to the brim with this spirit, this intensity that the guys create in my heart whenever I see them on screen.

Yes, it was an awesome time when Wo Fat was a long plotline, when cliffhangers were so effing good, that my heart stopped in the middle of trying to jump out of my chest.

Yes, I miss the seasons where a plot lasted not only for one or two episodes but for a whole freaking season.

Yes, I miss the way Steve and Danny were glued together. I miss how their friendship and their love was in the making, building, forming, getting a solid shape.

Yes, I even miss the drama and the revelation about Catherine, about Doris. All the shit that went down with Danny and his women.

I miss Chin and Kono and this undestroyable ohana feeling. I miss that so fucking much.

I miss, that they were so young, everything seemed possible and reachable.

I miss knowing that there was this knowledge in my heart that Steve and Danny would never grow older, would never change.

I miss the beginning because I knew there could be years to come!

And here we are and everything has changed and I hate it sometimes. I feel bereft and I want all the old, great days back and I don’t want to deal with ‘now’. But that’s not possible.

Steve and Danny are tired. They work in the line of duty for years now. Danny soon has filled his twenty years. They have been through so much, emotionally and physically.

The restaurant plot was good because it was a project where Steve and Danny were involved, again glued together with the same goal. This is no more. They realized what a toll it took on them. They realized that the only aim they have is to be a member of Five-0, working cases.

Steve is sick. He takes medication on a daily bases. He has to, with radiation sickness and a transplanted liver he doesn’t go without meds. He feels this change and as I see it, his way to delegate, to pass work on and to pass on responsibility has to do with his sickness. He never would admit it, but his strength fades. He’s still super fit, but physically not in peak condition. This boat has sailed and this right here...this makes me sad and angry and pisses me off because it tells me time passes.

Danny has thought about retirement already in season 7. He has had his wild days, his determination, his passion for his work. He’s not young and hungry anymore. Other priorities count and take over first place. Police work ruins your health and if Danny wants to get older with decent health, just like Steve, he has to reduce the workload.

Steve and Danny love each other. Their friendship and relationship are rock solid. They don’t need to work on that. It is! They always have each other’s back, they don’t have to prove that always. They can take it easier.

This means I don’t see them so often together as I wish I’d see them. They prioritize each other always but it also means that they’re off to do other things without the other. When it really counts, like in 9.11, Danny always backs Steve up and he’s always right by Steve’s side.

Season 9 is a season with different rules. Each episode is a closed case, a closed story and there isn’t a plot line arching over the whole season. Different times, different rules.

I love the show with my whole heart. It’s my happy place, no matter what. New team members are there, they are young and eager and Danny and Steve are ready to step back a little. It happens even if I don’t agree.

I always will see McDanno in every episode. I hate to know that the guys getting older, changing, having different goals.

I hate to know the spirit from the beginning is gone to never return because of the simple reason that time passes. It’s nine years later. Nothing ever stays the same.

I keep up, I stay with them - and I accept the changes.

That’s the reason why I deal with every episode the way I deal with. My glass is always half-full and there will always and forever be McDanno moments because their love is real to me.

Shit happens, that’s life. So Danny and Rachel? That’s shit but I can deal with it.

But at the end of the day, I long for the old days and I accept this hurt and this loss and I try to cope with the new days.

I'm almost halfway through NCIS:LA S02 and I have a question: do I have an episode to look forward to in the first 4 seasons (well, S02 to S04) where Nell is somewhat central to the plot? Perhaps she gets kidnapped or she has a unique skill that's needed or she knows the enemy somehow? Kensi and Hetty will presumably have if some S03 titles I saw are anything to go by. (I have thoughts to share but I've been watching a bit unenthusiastically since Dom was killed for no good reason other than cheap shock value. I almost quit, actually stopped watching for a few days, but picked it up again to see this best character that you said would enter in S02, which is Nell I assume?)

First, I don't blame you for almost quitting after Dom was killed. That whole storyline was AWFUL and unfortunately, it's only the first of many just-for-shock deaths NCIS:LA has pulled over the years. I'm still bitter about....more than half of them, tbh. So yeah, there's more of that ahead of you and I don't blame you at all if you get fed up and quit because of it.

Second, Nell is indeed my favorite character! She is my precious and I love her. (Tiny geniuses are my type, if you haven't noticed lol)

Third, she does get some episodes in the first few seasons! She gets more later on - she actually has this whole multi-season character arc in the later seasons. I didn't always love where it went, but I did love the increased screentime.

I don't know if you want specifics or not, so the titles of a few Nell-heavy episodes under the cut, for you to read or avoid, at your preference:

(But before that, I should warn you: s3e21, Touch of Death, is the second half of a two-part crossover with Hawaii Five-0. So you might wanna give that one a miss if you can't or don't want to watch the corresponding H50 episode...I imagine it'd get confusing! Also, s4 has some episodes called Red (Part 1) and Red (Part 2). They were supposed to be a backdoor pilot into a new spinoff, but it didn't get picked up because it was boring af. So those episodes are kind of pointless and spend a lot of time building up the relationship between these characters we never see again. Just some advanced warning for you!)

My favorite season/chapter: season 1. The beginning of Mcdanno 9. My favorite episode/book: season 4 episode 19 ( blood brothers ) I choose this episode because season 4 sucked with anything Mcdanno. But this episode ... let me tell you about this episode okay. Spoilers for those who haven't seen it, but Danny and Steve get trapped in a building that has caved on them. Not only is Danny injured but his claustrophobia sets in and he starts having a panic attack- and Steve is there. Steve holds his hand and is the calm of the storm. He talks him through it, tries to calm him down, patches up his wound best he can And takes his mind off of it. Halfway through when Steve seems to be losing it himself, he tells Danny, point blank. "I love you, pal." In which Danny doesn't say anything in return. At least not what we wanted to hear. After they get out they hug, and Danny goes "you said that thing in there. I just wanted you to know ... what? Are you going to make me say it. C'mere. I love you." 

And that's all I ever needed. 10. Character I’d like to have sex with: .........  uhmn.  Danny Williams. Or Steve. You know.... Or both. >.> at the same time.

Here are my thoughts on Daniel Dae Kim and Grace Park leaving H50. Just to warn you, this may be a long post. I got a lot to say about this. Also I don't fault any of the actors including Alex and Scott. I might have said some things on here and Twitter that might seem like it but I don't. I love them all and will forever support them. I'm not making assumptions like so many are on social media. Most who are making them are people that don't even watch the show. If the article is true, I do feel that this whole situation is just plain wrong. Yes, Alex and Scott are considered the leads but this is an ensemble cast. Grace and DDK are part of the main cast. They deserve to be paid just as much as Alex and Scott. It's well known that POCs actors get paid less than their white counterparts. CBS is notorious for this. For them not to be paid equality is insane to me. 1) If you want to look at star power, DDK and Grace Park are the bigger stars. They both just came from popular TV shows still in the high in ratings. Scott was on the Entourage for a season. Scott had a good in the 90s and early 2000. He got some big name movies under his belt like the Ocean movies. Some people still see him as just the son of James Caan, which sucks since Scott is an amazing actor. Alex on the other hand had 2 failed TV shows back to back. Not saying the shows were bad. I enjoyed the few episodes I watched of Moonlight and Three Rivers. He was also wonderful on one of my favorite episodes of Criminal Minds. Anyway, H50 pretty much was banking on the star power of 2 Asian American actors fresh off 2 highly successful shows. 2) Grace and DDK has been there since day one. They are not guest stars that stick around for a season or 2. They were part of the core 4. Even when they added Chi and Jorge in later seasons, we all still see them as the core 4. Scott has less episodes than anyone in the main cast. I'm not knocking that because we all know the deal. To be making more than the others that work on every is crazy and just wrong. They all had left for different reasons. Either for other projects, family, etc. That doesn't mean they don't deserve to get paid more. 3) H50 is one of CBS's most diverse shows. Even though the leads are considered 2 white males, set in Hawaii, a predominantly Asian/Hawaiian state. CBS is not best know for their diversity. Most of the shows either have an all white cast or with a POC character or 2. Don't get me started on the little to no LGBT+ representation. H50 just lost 3 of their Asian leads. Masi Oka left last season. There's no reason for Ian Anthony Dale stay since Grace is gone. So that's 5 Asian American actors gone. Even the guys love interests were nothing but white females. I've stated this before, you have 2 men, we haven't seen anything of them date local women. 4) Grace and DDK had more interesting storylines and relationships. Even though I got tired of tragic lovers dynamic, I love Kono and Adam's relationship. I would love if they explore something with Danny, I couldn't see her with anyone else but Adam. After Malia's death, I was glad to see Chin happy with someone else and got a new niece as a nice bonus. Their relationships was more interesting than the ones they're trying to force on us with the guys current gfs and toxic exs. Don't get me started on the missed opportunity to make McDanno cannon. Lastly, Grace and DDK have been carrying the show for the last few seasons. For the past 3 seasons, Chin was the main focus. Yes Steve and Danny had their moments either be it good or bad. For 2 seasons, the main villain was someone from Chin's past, not Steve's. These past few seasons, I was happy that the guys took somewhat of a back seat to showcase the other characters. I love this show and cast as a whole. They work so well with each other for 7 years. I hate see this end over money that can easily been paid. I already know they cast another female lead. Looking at the character's bio, she sounds like a Kono 2.0. We haven't heard anything yet for a character replacing Chin. Hopefully we will know more information soon. I will be doing a part 2 to this post. It's already super long. Part 2 will be based on other factors of Daniel and Grace leaving. Stay tuned. 😉

Whump List Request

Tortured Hero; Helpless Team - Whump List (Request)

So, a while back I was asked to do a list of episodes that contain the whump scenario that we all know and love: our favorite character gets kidnapped and tortured and his friends/team are forced to sit by and watch helplessly, either in person or via video. Here’s the list! I’ll add more as I think of more, and if you have any recommendations please inbox me and I will add them to the list! Enjoy.

1. Quantico: Season 1 episode 9. Booth has already been shot and had field surgery performed on him by a very nervous Alex. Now, he’s been kidnapped and tortured as he hangs from a ceiling. Alex can do nothing for most of the episode. Worth it worth it worth. Even if it’s just for the agonized screams.

2. Banshee: Season 1 episode 10. Banshee has an abundance of torture scenes for our antihero, Lucas. However, the best one has to be in the season 1 finale; Rabbit kidnaps Lucas, ties him to a chair and tortures him. His friends finally come to the rescue but not before Rabbit inflicts serious damage to Lucas.

3. Frontier: season 1 episode 5. Yes. Yes, I am well aware that I will find any excuse to include Frontier in any sort of post I make. No. No, I am not sorry, nor is it likely that I will stop doing this. Anyway, so Harp is kidnapped/arrested in front of his friends. He is then brutally tortured both emotionally and physically. His team misses most of the torture. But, Michael is brought in just in time to witness Harp at his lowest point: crying, yelling, screaming, and fucking bleeding all over the fucking place as he hangs from the ceiling. It clearly scares Michael to see him like that. It fucks with your emotions, man.

4. Homeland: season 5 episode 10. Quinn is god-knows-where, tied up and looking slightly worse for wear. He’s poisoned, and Carrie is forced to watch it in video format as he splutters, convulses, soils himself, and eventually collapses. It’s great acting all round, and pretty good whump if you’re into that kind of thing.

5. Outlander: season 1 episode 15. I really don’t think I could ever explain just how glorious this show is when it comes to whump and plot and characters. Jamie is shot; his shoulder is dislocated; he’s stabbed; he’s tortured. (Reminder to self: do a fucking twenty-page-long whump description of this show.) Anyway, the torture in this episode is insane. He’s taken by his arch nemesis, and his hand is smashed with a mallet and nailed to a table. This is done because his wife comes to save him after he’s taken, but they are caught before they can escape and - in an act to save his wife’s life - Jamie swears that he will give into Randall’s (aforementioned arch nemesis) wish to have his way with Jamie. In order to prove that his word is true, he allows Randall to nail his already shattered hand to the table as his wife, Claire, watches. It’s amazing acting and wonderful whump, but it is hard to watch, even for the most seasoned of whumpers. This torture scene has an abundance of pained cries and shattered bones, blood and gore… bruises everywhere; there’s enough of his loved ones watching this go down. (NOTE: the whump in the book is even harsher and far more detailed than the show. Read the books.) HOWEVER. This episode is unsettling because it details the rape and defamation of a character that you cannot help but love. This strong, gorgeous, stubborn man is reduced to nothing as he lets his past tormentor rape him over and over again. It’s terrible. It really is.

6. Outlander: season 1 episode 6. This episode is almost as hard to watch as the previously mentioned one. Jamie (who has already been flogged once before) is taken to be lashed one-hundred times. A crowd - consisting of strangers as well as his father and uncle - has gathered to watch. He is whipped until he is unconscious, hanging in a pool of his own blood, his back literally ripped to shreds. It’s not pretty; the makeup is fucking fantastic and just looking at his back - dangling skin and exposed bone - is sickening. The crowd can hardly watch��� his father even has a heart attack. This show is amazing, but it’s certainly not light-hearted at times. Seriously, guys, why haven’t I done a whump profile for this yet?

7. Firefly: season 1 episode 10. Mal and Wash are kidnapped by Niska. They’re electrocuted over and over again. Zoe comes to save them but she’s only able to save Wash. Niska cuts off Mal’s ear and hands it to Zoe as a souvenir. Niska ends up torturing Mal until the latter dies, and Niska has to revive him once again. By the time his team arrives, Mal is a mess. Whilst his team misses most of the torture, Wash witnessed Mal suffering, and so does Zoe for a while. This show is great regardless, so I would watch it. There’s tons of whump in it.

8. Braveheart. So I’m pretty sure that everyone’s heard about this movie, which means that most people have heard about the brutal torture scene. Wallace is hanged, drawn and quartered as a horrified crowd (including two of his closest friends) watch. They can do nothing to stop it or help him other than to cry out for mercy, even when Wallace refuses to beg for it himself. This movie is most definitely worth it, and not just for the torture scene. I think this movie is a little harder to watch because it’s based on what we can only assume is a real historical figure (too many debates surrounding that topic even to go into); that said, it’s certainly the kind of movie that stays with you no matter what.

9. NCIS: Los Angeles. Season 4 episode 24. Deeks and Sam are kidnapped. They are then tortured - electrocution and teeth-drilling - and forced to watch each other in pain, and hear each other scream. They get rescued but not before the damage is done.

10. Reservoir Dogs. I watched this movie years ago… I think I might’ve been around 14 at the time so my memory is slightly fuzzy but I’ll do my best. There’s this fucking gruesome torture scene where Mr Blonde proves just how much of a sadistic sonofabitch he can be. Plus one of the characters gets shot in the stomach and spends the whole movie dying slowly as he bleeds out. He does not, however, die quietly despite his friends’ pleads.

11. Chicago PD. Season 3 episode 01. Jay Halstead - what a specimen of a man - is kidnapped and tortured. His team is forced to stand by and watch helplessly as this happens. He's hot and he whumps so well. Best part is: at the end of the episode, even though he can hardly stand or walk, he manages to fight through the pain one last time and save the day. I would like to thank @whumpified for the suggestion.

**Honorable Mention: Once Upon a Time. Season 5 episodes 12 - 15 (5x12 - 5x15). Hook - who is fucking gorgeous - is killed for the sake of greater good, and winds up in the underworld. We don’t see the torture but we get a slight glimpse of him initially while Emma looks for him; he’s covered in blood. When we get a closer look, he’s still covered in blood, but the one side of his face is also completely bruised and swollen, he can’t place any weight on his one leg, and his arm remains wrapped around his ribs. He can hardly breathe, nevermind walk or talk; queue the multiple pained gasps and strained wheezes. He gets captured by Hades and strung up with chains. Emma finds him hanging there, trembling and unable even to react when she calls his name. He spends the next episode and a half needing help from Emma to walk and stand as the team tries to find a way to get back out of the underworld. The reason this is an honorable mention is because: whilst the actual torture itself is lacking, the whump is fantastic! Really such a great example of whump done right.

Guys, honestly, I’m struggling with this list. I can think of a shit ton of shows where the character is tortured (Banshee, H50, Once Upon a Time, The Red Road - sorta, Payback, Conspiracy Theory) but not many of them actually include the team watching helplessly. Please, if you think of any other shows, let me know! I’ll add them to the list. Sorry about the lack of shows/movies on this list; my brain has turned to literal fucking mush.

This is such a great idea! What a way to end the year. Recapping our fave whump. I love it

So for me, in no particular order:

1. Blade Runner 2049. Oh man this movie was super whumpy. I didn't even know I liked Ryan Gosling whump haha.

2. Definitely Hawaii Five-0 8X09 and 8X10. Gosh these two episodes were filled with so much whump and so much concern and everything I love about whump! I have a feeling one of us whumpers got into the H50 writers room and pitched this idea to them and they just ran with it.

3. Gotham 4X01. This episode really started off Season 4 well and it had quite a decent amount of whump. Jim Gordon getting beat up is one of my fave things in the world.

4. Thor: Ragnarok. This was such an amazing movie. I think this and Wonder Woman are the best films of 2017 for me. Thor had everything plus the whump was pretty amazing toooo. What's not to love?

5. The Blacklist 1X09. I'm going to sneak this in. Technically it wasn't a 2017 episode but I discovered it in 2017 and the whump is A+. Just, if you haven't seen it, do yourself a favour and see it!!

Obviously there's a lot more whump that I enjoyed this year but I had to choose the best 5 so here we go.
