Character Intro: Triptolemus (Kingdom of Ichor)
Nicknames- God of Crops by the people of Olympius
Honey by his wife
Dad by his son
Trip by his brother & friends
Age- 37 (immortal)
Location- Achaea, Olympius
Personality- He's a dedicated hardworker with a general laidback temperament. He holds family, community, and wellness of the land to the utmost of importance. Despite being a grudge holder, he doesn't see the need for unnecessary drama in his life, opting for simplicity. He's married.
He has the standard abilities of a god except shapeshifting. As the god of farming his other powers/abilities include transfiguration (can turn beings into a plant, tree, or crop), being able to use ancient/modern farming and gardening tools proficiently as weapons, soil manipulation (edafoskinesis), as well as chlorokinesis (to a much lesser extent than Demeter).
A notable physical feature is his golden brown tan skin, due to him always being outdoors.
His natural scent is a mixture of fresh damp soil and sweet corn.
Triptolemus is a native of Eleusis. Mostly bad feelings and memories come up whenever he thinks about his homeland; never mind the constant death he was surrounded by in his early godhood.
He's married to Eunostos (goddess of the flour mill). They have a child- a son Deipneus (god of cooking & breadmaking). Other members of Triptolemus' extended family includes his younger brother Trochilus (god of the mill wheel), his father-in-law Cyamites (god of beans), his sister-in-law Promylaia, as well as his nephews Matton (god of meals) and Keraon (god of baking & wine mixing).
He lives on a thirty acre farm property with his wife in a french country style home. The house has natural wood flooring, a wraparound porch, antique furniture (like armoirs), wood beamed ceilings, simple yet elegant chandeliers, & nude and cream colored toile patterned wallpaper. On the same farm just a few minutes away, there's the house his brother and wife live in.
Triptolemus is a HUGE animal lover. On the farm there's cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, ducks, chickens, & horses. There are a few employees on the farm (like a leimonide named Maris), but he and his brother don't mind actively participating in the responsibilities of the farm like trimming the horses' hooves, bringing in/tagging the many crops, administering vaccines to the animals, or operating farming equipment.
He usually starts his day at the crack of dawn. Following a session of meditation, Triptolemus will ride through the farm on his horse- a quarter horse named Moxie then take a swim in the private pond. He'll then tend to his garden before breakfast.
Displayed in the living room is a farming pitchfork forged from adamantine by Hephaestus (god of the forge). It's taken the place of Triptolemus' former divine symbol.
He loves eating a steaming plate of gyeran bap for breakfast. He also really likes when his wife makes buttermilk biscuits alongside her cajun breakfast casserole (made with scrambled eggs, sliced andouille sausages, shredded hash browns, hot sauce, heavy cream, red peppers, various spices, & shredded cheddar cheese. He'll also enjoy a big bowl of Earthly Harvest cinnamon oat hearty nut medley cereal (which is cinnamon coated flakes, almonds, pumpkin seeds, pecans, and walnuts).
A go-to drink for him is bori-cha (barley tea) which he brews himself. He also likes his brother's homemade banana milk & sujeonggwa, mineral water, orange juice, his wife's homemade iced tea, beer, white wine, sparkling lemon cocktails, ginger ale, lemonade, mint juleps, good farmer cocktails, celery tonics, as well as hard cider cocktails. His usuals from The Roasted Bean include a cafe au lait and an olympian sized green tea.
There's a couple of secrets Triptolemus has kept close to him, only divulging in it with trusted beings in his social circle. In his early days of godhood, he was under the brief mentorship of Demeter (goddess of the harvest & agriculture). It's not a known fact in the pantheon or the public. His brother Trochilus was establishing his godhood in Corinth.
In the early days of the Titanomachy, Eleusis was the most fertile place in the entire country. Triptolemus and Demeter would be responsible for feeding many beings that were displaced due to the war. Every time the tax was raised, he would hand deliver a basket of crops to the needy and hungry families.
Triptolemus' earliest accomplishment in his godly career was when Demeter gifted him an Imperial Gold wheeled chariot, which was pulled by two majestic looking winged serpents. He traveled all throughout the country, feeding the hungry. Triptolemus was seen as a folk hero- first in Eleusis, then in Athens.
He had a quiet adversion to overseeing the Eleusinian Mysteries, being that he was never comfortable around suffering & death. He then spoke out against Demeter regarding her treatment of Celeus, the lord of Eleusis at the time as well as his family- particularly his son Demophon. Seemingly without warning, his chariot was revoked and Triptolemus has his mentorship transferred to Eubouleus (god of the swine & ploughing).
Even though he wasn't active in the war on the battlefield, Triptolemus supported Zeus (god of the sky, thunder, & lightning) and the rest of the Olympians.
After the war, he spent some time in Athens & reunited with his brother before settling in Achaea.
Triptolemus had no say in the matter when Demeter came back into his life by way of her newfound friendship with Eunostos and Promylaia. The family even relocated back to Eleusis while their sons were still little. At this point, he didn't tell anyone about his early godhood. Triptolemus always maintained a friendly disposition whenever Demeter came around and was surprised when his son & nephews developed a friendship with her daughter Persephone. When his wife and sister-in-law eventually had a falling out with Demeter, Triptolemus wasn't terribly surprised. When the family relocated back to Achaea, he finally revealed his past with the harvest goddess.
Despite his status as a minor deity, Triptolemus has two temples built in his honor- one in his native Eleusis and one in Athens.
He leads an active lifestyle through tai chi, riding horseback, jogging, working out, & even bullriding!
Triptolemus loves his younger brother and appreciates how protective they are for one another. Though their experiences in godhood was drastically different, they understand each other in a way that most can't, aside from their wives. They have a good working relationship as well, being that they're business partners.
He has a sandwhich inspired by him at his son's nationwide business The Bread Box. The farmer sandwhich is a toasted baguette with roasted chicken, sweet corn, melted brie cheese, tapenade, a thyme mayo spread, and romaine lettuce.
Triptolemus adores Eunostos. He finds his wife's supple soft skin & natural scent of flour and powdered sugar to be addictive. He also admires how she held her head high after the fallout Demeter. They enjoy spending time outside of their shared business- like taking a weekend trip to Athens to visit her father, traveling to New Olympus to see their son, or going on double dates with Trochilus and Promylaia.
He's heard whispers that the chariot (claimed by Demeter) was thrown into Tartarus following the end of the war, but he can't be too sure.
Triptolemus has a good relationship with his son and is proud of all of his accomplishments as a deity. He wishes that Deipneus would call him more often, but is understanding of his busy schedule. When he and his wife travel to New Olympus, Triptolemus (along with his brother) will play basketball at Eaglepoint Park with Deipneus, Keraon, and Matton.
Whenever he and Eunostos travels to New Olympus they'll either stay over at their son's brownstone in a guest room or they'll rent a room at The Hearthwood Inn.
His primary source of income comes from the business he co-owns alongside his brother, sister-in-law, & wife. The Achaean Flour Company is one of the largest manufacturers and distributors of flour & flour products. On his own Triptolemus is the head of the Farming Union of Olympius, an organization that works to improve the quality of life and economic well-being of family farmers, ranchers, and rural communities. He also owns a small farmer's market in the town's square, known to give away products for free sometimes!
In the pantheon Triptolemus is known for his finger licking yangnyeom chicken, fried chicken covered in a sweet & spicy sauce and garnished with sesame seeds.
His favorite sweet treats includes his wife's beignets, his brother's bingsu (sweet shaved ice), and his own baesuk and yaksik (sweet rice cakes added with nuts, dried fruit, & honey).
In the pantheon Triptolemus is good friends with Ktesios (god of the household), Karmanor (demi-god of the harvest), Priapus (god of fertility, vegetable gardens, livestock, sexuality, & masculinity), Apólafsi (god of enjoyment), Kópros (god of manure & excrement), Corymbus (Cory) (god of the ivy), Záchari (god of confectionery), Pan (god of the wild, satyrs, shepherds, & rustic music), and Hestia (goddess of the hearth).
Aside from Demeter, he also dislikes Limos (goddess of starvation & famine).
Triptolemus thinks that his son's girlfriend Pandaisia (goddess of banquets) is a sweetheart.
His favorite frozen treat is pear ice cream.
When he and Trochilus travels back to New Olympus soon, they plan on finally tackling the culinary behemoth known as the Mt. Olympus burger at Poté Tróei, the restaurant owned by Adephagia (goddess of gluttony).
For fun, Triptolemus hosts a gardening club every week, open to anyone. The members generally "meet" online on Fatestagram by use of video group chat, with an in-person meeting at his greenhouse. Maris is one of the members.
His favorite thing to get at Hollyhock's Bakery is the jumbo pancake cookie (topped with a buttermilk syrup glaze & a dollop of vanilla buttercream).
Triptolemus, Eunostos, Trochilus, and Promylaia always participates in the annual Achaean Beignet Festival.
Another trip he's planning is to Crete to see Karmanor compete in a bullriding competition.
His favorite meal is his wife's spicy sausage penne along with yangnyeom chicken, topping it off with a cold glass of hard apple cider.
In his free time Triptolemus enjoys gardening, cooking, baking, bike riding, swimming, basketball, sunbathing, golf, football (soccer), and sailing.
"The farmer has to be an optimist or he wouldn't still be a farmer."

Chapter 7: Mother dearest
“Mom?” Kai asked, eyes widening slightly as her mouth dropped a little.
“Kai!” She cheered, rushing forward and hugging the woman. Kai didn’t hug back, hell, her body even stiffened. The woman pouted childishly, pulling back from Kai. “You know how long we had to find you? My baby, not talking to her mother in four years! Are you trying to hurt my feelings?”
“Mom-” She was cut off by the landline ringing, and she had to wrangle herself from her mother’s arms, going to answer it. Kai’s mother protested, and it reminded Changbin of those kids that threw a tantrum of they didn’t get the correct candy.
“Hello?... Yes, this is her.... What?!” Kai shouted suddenly, Changbin rushed over to figure out what was happening, Kai’s mouth open in shock. “Okay, I’ll be right there.” She hung up, grabbing a zip up and keys, dashing out the door. Changbin’s eyes widened as he was left home alone with Kai’s family.
Eyes turned to him, expectantly, and he gulped. “You guys like tea?”
“My baby,” Kai held Duri, who lay on a hospital bed. Duri groaned, trying to push away her mother’s hands but Kai was stronger than she looked. Duri gave up after a few tries, eye twitching as Kai looked over her once more.
“Mom, it was just a fall. I’m fine.” Duri tried to comfort her mother, like she had done this before.
“’just a fall’, she says. Honey, you have a concussion!” Kai scolded. “After the doctor comes by, we are going home. That camo should’ve called me-”
“Mommy.” Duri said sternly, making the older woman pause. “I’m fine. I just want to go home.”
“Of course, baby.” Kai kissed her daughter’s head, getting a hum from the girl. A knock sounded at the door, and Kai stood immediately, bowing to the doctor who opened the door.
“Can we have Gyeran bap for breakfast?” Duri asked when Kai turned the handle for the apartment.
“Probably. Let me ask Changbin if he would be down.” Kai commented, opening the door and unzipping her zip up.
“Duri!” Her mother’s voice snapped Kai out of it, and she remembered who was exactly there. Changbin seemed visibly relieved to see Kai, sat in between her mother and her brother.
Duri blankly stared at the older woman before hiding behind her, head peeking out from her mother’s legs. Kai frowned, kneeling to help Duri slide off her shoes, followed by her own. Kai’s mother frowned, pouting yet again. Her father set a hand on his wife’s shoulder, speaking to her lowly in Mandarin.
“Hye-Jin, she was young when she left. She probably doesn’t remember you,” and that sentence made her pout more.
“Mom? Who are those people?” Duri asked, pointing to her grandparents. Hye-Jin audibly gasped, it was as if you had just stabbed her dog.
“Kai-ah, you didn’t tell our granddaughter about us?” Bo, her brother, frowned, but it seemed like he was just putting on a facade in front of Changbin.
“Bin, what do you think of Gyeran Bap for breakfast?” Kai ignored her uninvited guests. Changbin nodded, standing up to go into the kitchen with the two women. Duri yelled happily when she saw Changbin, running to greet him and hug the man. Changbin smiled, before picking up the child, sitting her on the counter. Kai moved to start rinsing her rice.
Kai’s wrist was grabbed by Bo, who sneered. “Don’t ignore us, Kai.” Kai glared up at her older brother.
“You came here, uninvited. I have every right to kick you guys out, so count your blessings that I haven’t done it yet.” She tugged her wrist back, pushing her attention back to rinsing her rice.
“Changbin-ah, this is what she does!” Hye-Jin wailed, making Kai stiffen. “She treats us like dirt, and doesn’t even let me see my grandbaby. What a horrible daughter she is!”
Kai sighed, trying to ignore her mother as Changbin looked taken aback. Her father started to agree, making Kai roll her eyes. “Don’t you guys have a hotel to get to? My apartment isn’t fit to hold seven people.” Kai lied through her teeth.
Her father agreed, making Hye-Jin whine again. “Fine, have fun with your boyfriend.” Hye-Jin grumbled, making Kai turn to her mother with a glare.
“He’s not my boyfriend!” She shouted at her mother. “Get out!” The three left soon after, Bo giving her the stink eye as they left. Kai breathed through her nose heavily, trying to ignore the way her chest fluttered when her mother called Changbin her boyfriend.
She grabbed an egg, cracking it harshly on the pan. She held the spatula with shaking hands, still breathing heavily. She was so in her head that she almost jumped when a hand encapsulated her own.
“Kai,” Changbin muttered in her ear, making her melt a little. “Calm down, yeah?” Kai sighed, relaxing against her roommate, and nodded. She blamed her face growing red from the heat of the steam of the frying eggs. “Want to talk about it?”
Kai shook her head, before plating up the food for Duri. She started to plate up Changbin’s food, before turning the stove off. She slipped away from Changbin and kissed her daughter’s head.
“Mommy? What about you?” Duri asked when Kai padded down the hallway. Kai turned to her daughter and smiled, but it didn’t quite reach her eyes.
“I’m not hungry.” She said, before entering her small studio, shutting the door softly. Her stomach disagreed with her, but she didn’t want to let them worry about her.
Kai groaned when her curtains to the studio were ripped open, making Kai groan. It had been days since she left the studio, and Changbin was getting sick of it. But he decided to get Minho to do it, not daring to ruin the peace the two had finally gotten.
“Get up,” Minho told her, hands on his hips.
“Get out, Minho.” Kai groaned, turning to get away from the light. What she didn’t account for was his stubbornness. She shrieked when he picked her up, taking her to her shower and dumping her in the water.
Kai gasped, feeling the freezing water run down her body. Her mind raced a mile a minute, before settling on that one memory from her childhood that she seemed to have forgotten.
Kai screamed when Bo trapped her under the freezing water. They were visiting her grandparents in Korea during the winter, and they had lived by a body of water. Kai gulped down the water, coughing and spluttering when he hadn’t let up, water flowing into her lungs.
She went rigid, letting her hair fall forward when it got too heavy on her head. Minho paused, looking at Kai in a state of curiosity.
Changbin came running at the sound of a thud, the food he was cooking long forgotten. He looked at the scene in front of him, eyes widening in shock. Minho sat on the ground, hand caressing his cheek where Kai had slapped him. Kai was heavily breathing, tears welling up in her eyes as she rushed out of the stream of water and slamming the door to the studio.
After Changbin had given Minho a bag of ice to hold to his cheek, he came storming into the studio, the door opening with another slam. Her neighbours will be complaining to the landlord about this.
“What the hell is your problem?” He yelled at her, not noticing the way her eyes were red from crying. Hell, the tears were still flowing down her cheeks when he barged in. “You hole yourself up in the studio for days, leave raising your kid to me, and then slapping Minho when he tried to help you?”
“My health is nothing of concern!” Kai yelled back, standing up. “Not after the stunt you pulled a few days ago!”
“What? With your parents?” He huffed, exasperated. “They were plenty decent to me! Now I’m believing that your mother was right!”
Silence followed. Kai stared at him like he grew two heads, before a small sob left her lips. She crumpled to the ground, a faraway look behind her eyes. Changbin rolled his eyes, before growing increasingly worried when she stared into the distance.
“Kai, I-”
“Get out.” Kai said sternly. Changbin’s eyes widened, not moving until Kai looked up at him, a look that would’ve rivaled Minho’s. “Get. Out.”
He followed her instructions quickly, not wanting to anger her more.
“That’s what happened,” Changbin sighed to his friends, recounting the fight the two had. Jeongin stood up, his face filling with a rage that many would not have seen on the young man.
“Hyung, you are so stupid.” He started, shaking his head twice. “She hasn’t told you about her parents, has she?”
Changbin looked at the younger guy, face contorted in visible confusion. He shook his head, making Jeongin sigh, rubbing his temples. “It’s not my story to tell, but I’m going to comfort the girl you upset.” He glared at Changbin, before leaving to comfort his friend.
Changbin stared dumbfounded at the youngest, thoughts running through his head. He groaned, setting his head in his hands. “I messed things up again, haven't I?”
“Yep,” A collective agreement came from the group. His jaw fell open, Han laughing at his friend’s unfortunate circumstance.
“Men are so dumb,” Jeongin said to Duri as he got Kai’s favorite sweet, a new-York style cheesecake. “Stay your age forever, life only gets harder.”
Kai slapped her friend’s arm, reassuring a confused six-year-old. “Don’t mind him, jagi.” She leaned over and kissed her daughter’s head, confusing the child more.
Changbin popped his head in the doorway, a guilt ridden look on his face. Kai groaned, and Jeongin sighed. “C’mon girl, let's go to the park. You can tell me all the shit you have on your classmates.” He picked her up, passing by Changbin and looking at him with a look.
“Don’t corrupt my daughter!” Kai yelled after the two.
“You’re no fun!” Jeongin called back, and then the front door closed. The two roommates stared at each other, before Changbin spoke first.
“I’m sorry. For everything.” He said softly, and Kai nodded. He stepped forward, head tilting in confusion when she turned away from him, a frown etched on her features.
“I know. But it still hurt.” Kai whispered, setting the now-empty dish into the sink to start washing it. “Do you know how bad it hurts to hear someone you consider a friend agree with your mother of all things?”
“If I may ask, why are you so against your parents?” Changbin came up beside her, hand on the small of her back. Kai sighed, running her wet hands through her hair, the strands sticking to her hands.
“I think it would be better if I told you over wine.”
“Okay, where to start...” Kai sighed. “My parents never wanted me. They hadn’t said it to me directly, but I know what It’s like. They never said I love you to me, never cared for me.” She crossed her legs, leaning against her cushion, staring off into the distance. She held the glass of wine in her hands, taking occasional sips.
Changbin sat opposite her, eyebrows furrowed. His parents had passed a few years ago, his sister too busy with her own family to pay attention to him. But he grew up in a stable environment, not understanding what it was like not having a good relationship with parents.
“My parents always took my brother’s side. He was ten years older than me, but he still would act like a child. He was jealous that I took our parents attention, so he made my life a living hell.” Kai played with the fray of her old shirt. “My parents would scold me for trying to fight back, and it didn’t matter what I did. Hell, I even graduated two years older for them to even say they were proud of me.” She spat hatefully, chugging back the red liquid.
“When I was... seven, I think. My brother found me extra annoying that day, and he took a butter knife,” She made a stabbing motion on her sternum, pulling to shirt’s neckline to reveal a faint scar. “He stabbed me, fracturing my bone. I'm lucky he didn’t hit anything important, though. My maternal grandmother took me to the hospital because my parents were too busy fawning over my brother to notice their other child.”
Changbin looked like he was going to murder someone, making Kai take his hands softly. “Don’t worry, Bin. I’m... coping.”
Changbin leaned over, hugging her to his chest tightly. “I’m so sorry, Kai.” He mumbled, feeling like he was going to cry. “I shouldn’t have invited them in.”
Kai snorted. “Bin,” she said, making him hum in acknowledgment. “It’s not your fault my family fucking sucks.”
Changbin pulled back. “I say we invite them to dinner,” he held up a palm when Kai went to speak. “We show them that you are way better than them. We invite the rest of the guys, and we show them that you have not thought of them once.” Kai broke out laughing, before nodding.
“Okay, sounds like a plan.” She stood up, grabbing the empty glass and kissing his cheek without thinking twice about it. She turned and left, leaving a frozen Changbin on the couch. Kai hummed happily, washing the glasses with care.
Kai felt ten times lighter, and Changbin couldn’t ignore the way that he wanted to kiss her.

Love Blooms | Chapter Four
🌸Fic Pairing: Jin x Hoseok
🌸Rating: G
🌸Genre: divorced, single father au | Angst & Fluff
🌸WC: 3,473
Jin's fingers hovered over the keyboard, a tremor passing through them as he composed the message to Soo-Min. He hesitated, the weight of the impending conversation pressing down on him. But this meeting was unavoidable, a necessary step for himself, Hoseok, and especially Eun-Ji. Choosing a neutral ground, Jin suggested Kimchi & Cream, a cozy café with soft lighting and gentle music. Perhaps the ambiance would soften the tension he anticipated.
"Done," he breathed, a shaky sigh escaping his lips. "Everything will be okay."
Relief washed over him as Soo-Min confirmed the meeting. The first hurdle was cleared, but the real test lay ahead. Turning his attention to logistics, Jin texted Jimin. Without hesitation, Jimin agreed to watch Eun-Ji, his lighthearted reply a welcome distraction from the looming conversation.
He dialed Hoseok's number next, excitement bubbling beneath the surface. "Hey, Hoseok. It's Jin. Lunch with Soo-Min is confirmed for next weekend. How does 1 pm at Kimchi & Cream sound?"
A beat of silence followed, and then a low whistle traveled through the phone. "So soon, huh? Are you sure you're ready for that conversation?"
Jin's hand tightened around the phone. "As ready as I'll ever be. I just want things to be…easier for everyone, especially Eun-Ji. Maybe if Soo-Min sees why I care about you…" His voice trailed off, unsure how to complete the thought.
"Jin," Hoseok's voice softened on the other end. "I'm happy to do whatever it takes. For you and Eun-Ji. Just know, no matter what, I'm in your corner."
Jin felt a warmth bloom in his chest. "Thanks, Hoseok. That means a lot. Now, how about I pick you up at 12:30 on Saturday? We can grab coffee and steel ourselves for the 'meet the ex' experience before heading to the cafe."
A gentle laugh filled his ear. "Sounds like a plan. Just promise me one thing."
"Anything," Jin replied readily.
"If things get too hairy, we'll pretend to have a spontaneous make-out session just to mess with her head."
Jin burst out laughing, the tension momentarily dissolving. "Sounds like a terrible idea, but hey, desperate times call for desperate measures, right?"
"Exactly," Hoseok chuckled. "See you then, Jin."
The week crawled by for Jin. Every notification on his phone made him jump, half-expecting it to be Soo-Min canceling or changing the plans. He tried to focus on work, on Eun-Ji's endless questions about dinosaurs, on anything to distract himself from the looming lunch. Finally, Saturday arrived, a bright, crisp day that felt anything but calming to Jin.
He woke earlier than usual, a nervous knot twisting in his stomach. After choking down a small portion of gyeran bap with some lukewarm coffee, he headed next door to Jimin's place to drop off Eun-Ji. Jin knocked on Jimin's door, taking a deep breath as he waited for his friend to answer. While he trusted Jimin to watch Eun-Ji, he couldn't shake the feeling of guilt at leaving her behind for such an important lunch. He could only hope that Eun-Ji would be too caught up in playing with her favorite samchon to even give him a second thought.
The door swung open, revealing a smiling Jimin dressed in his usual colorful attire. "Hey, hyung! Come on in."
Jin followed him inside, the smell of fresh pancakes wafting through the air. "Thanks for watching Eun-Ji today, Jimin. I really appreciate it."
Jimin waved off his thanks with a dismissive hand gesture. "Don't mention it. I love spending time with my favorite paleontologist." He winked at Jin before turning to Eun-Ji, who was already happily playing with her toys on the living room floor.
"You have fun here, okay? Be good for Jimin samchon," Jin gently reminded her, earning Eun-Ji a cheerful nod.
"Of course, she will," Jimin chirped. "Now go get ready and knock 'em dead at lunch."
Jin chuckled weakly as he headed towards the door. "I'll do my best."
He made his way back to his apartment and took a moment to collect himself before getting ready for his lunch with Soo-Min and Hoseok. As he stood in front of his closet, trying to decide what to wear, his phone buzzed with a text from Hoseok.
Hoseok: On my way over now! See you soon :)
Jin quickly chose an outfit and sent a reply before heading out to meet Hoseok downstairs. Once they were settled in the car and on their way to Kimchi & Cream, Jin couldn't help but feel nervous. He glanced over at Hoseok, who seemed to be in a good mood.
“It’s going to be okay, Jin,” Hoseok reassured him with a gentle smile. “We’ll figure this out together.”
His words were a balm to Jin’s anxieties. He squeezed Hoseok’s hand, grateful for his unwavering support.
They arrived at Kimchi & Cream and were shown to a quiet table in the corner. Jin took the side of the table that put his back to the wall, and Hoseok slid into the chair next to him. Jin picked up the menu in front of him, fidgeting with it, his appetite mysteriously vanishing.
As they waited for Soo-Min to arrive, Jin's nervous chatter filled the air. He shared intimate details about his and Soo-min's relationship, previously untouched subjects that revealed a complex dynamic. Hoseok listened attentively, offering nods and supportive words. Jin described the current tension between him and Soo-min.
“I understand where she’s coming from,” Hoseok said thoughtfully, his hand sliding over Jin’s. “As a parent, it’s natural to want the best for your child. But I also believe that love and acceptance are essential for a happy life. And I know that you can provide both for Eun-Ji.”
Jin felt a surge of gratitude for Hoseok’s understanding; he flipped their hands resting on the table, letting their fingers slip in between each other. He knew that having Hoseok by his side would make all the difference, not just for him but for Eun-Ji as well.
The door chimed again, and Jin's heart skipped a beat as Soo-Min entered the coffee shop. Her elegant figure was framed by the sunlight streaming through the glass windows, her dark hair cascading down her back like a waterfall of silk. Her eyes scanned the room, and when they found Jin and Hoseok, she took a deep breath before walking towards them. Her face hardened, noticing their entwined hands as she approached their table.
"Hello," Soo-Min said, her voice curt as she greeted Jin, her gaze flicking to Hoseok with an air of skepticism. She pulled out a chair, seating herself opposite them, her arms crossed defensively. The atmosphere grew tense, the silence broken only when the waiter approached for their order.
"Hi, Soo-Min, thank you for coming," Jin took a deep breath and met Soo-Min’s gaze. “I know you have concerns about Hoseok. But I want you to know that he’s a good man. He loves Eun-Ji, and he wants nothing but the best for her.”
Soo-Min scoffed. “Love? You’ve known him for what, a few months? Love doesn’t just appear out of thin air.”
Jin opened his mouth to respond, but Hoseok gently placed a hand on his arm. “If you’ll allow me, Soo-Min,” he said, his voice soft but firm. “I’d like to share my perspective.”
Soo-Min hesitated for a moment before nodding curtly.
Hoseok turned to her, his eyes filled with sincerity. “I understand your concerns and respect your role as Eun-Ji’s mother. However, I want to assure you that my intentions are true.” Hoseok paused, sighing softly, “I know it’s not easy to see someone new in Eun-Ji’s life, especially considering the situation. ”
Soo-min crossed her arms. “It's not just about someone new, Hoseok. It’s about the environment she’s growing up in. I don’t want her to get confused.”
"First, I just want to say that Eun-Ji has been happier since Hoseok came into our lives," Jin cut in earnestly, glancing at Hoseok for support, his hand sliding to the other’s thigh. "He's been there for her in ways I couldn't have imagined, and he's been incredible to me too."
Hoseok nodded, his eyes pleading with Soo-Min to understand. "I care about Jin and Eun-Ji deeply, Soo-Min. I would never do anything to hurt them. And I think we've all grown through our experiences together."
"Speaking of experiences..." Jin reached for his wallet, pulling out a photograph of the three of them—Jin, Hoseok, and Eun-Ji—at the park, surrounded by flowers and sunshine. "This was taken during one of our outings. Eun-Ji adores spending time with Hoseok, as you can see."
Soo-Min took the photo, her eyes scanning the image as if searching for a hidden truth. There was a brief flicker of emotion in her gaze, but it vanished as quickly as it had appeared.
"Look, Soo-Min," Jin pressed on, his voice gentle and sincere. "I understand your concerns, but I want us to find a way to coexist harmoniously, for Eun-Ji's sake. Hoseok has been nothing but a wonderful addition to our lives, and I hope you can see that, too."
For a moment, silence enveloped them, the only sounds being the soft hum of conversations around them and the clink of silverware against plates.
Soo-Min's fingers traced the edge of the photograph, her expression unreadable.
She looked from the photo to Jin and Hoseok, her face a mix of concern and disapproval.
"I understand that Eun-Ji enjoys spending time with Hoseok, but you have to consider how confusing this will be for her," Soo-Min said, her voice firm. "She's still young, and I don't want her to get hurt or feel uncertain about her family situation."
Jin felt a pang in his chest at her words, knowing she had a point. He glanced over at Hoseok, who gave him an encouraging nod. "You're right, Soo-Min. Eun-Ji's well-being should be our top priority. That's why we wanted to talk to you about this—to make sure everyone is on the same page and we can approach this change as a team."
"Change?" Soo-Min crossed her arms, her eyes narrowing. "What kind of change are you talking about?"
Hoseok hesitated for a moment, sharing a glance with Jin before he spoke up. "We... We've fallen in love, Soo-Min," he confessed, his voice soft but unwavering, Jin imperceptibly tensing beside him. "We’re moving toward becoming permanent fixtures in each other’s lives, and we would like Eun-Ji to be a part of that, too."
Soo-Min's eyes widened, and she shook her head in disbelief. "You can't be serious," she said, the skepticism dripping from her voice. "You expect me to believe that this...this relationship is good for Eun-Ji? You barely know each other!"
"Actually, we've gotten to know each other quite well over the past few months," Jin interjected, trying not to let Soo-Min's harsh words affect him. "We've spent a lot of time together, first as friends and later as partners. And Hoseok has become such an amazing part of our lives."
"Jin," Soo-Min sighed, her tone softening slightly. "I want you to be happy, I really do. But this is a lot to take in. And my main concern is our daughter's well-being. How can we be sure that this relationship won't create more confusion for her, especially if it doesn’t last?"
"Because we're committed to communicating with Eun-Ji and with you every step of the way," Hoseok chimed in, his hand finding Jin's hand under the table where it rests on his thigh and giving it a reassuring squeeze. "We know this is new territory for all of us, but we truly believe that if we're open and honest about our intentions and feelings, we can make this work for everyone involved. And as for lasting, I for one, don’t plan on giving this love up anytime soon."
Soo-Min studied their faces for a long moment, searching for sincerity in their eyes. The silence hung heavy between them, and Jin couldn't help but hold his breath, hoping for a breakthrough.
"Alright," Soo-Min finally said, her voice barely more than a whisper. "I'll give this a chance. But please, promise me that you'll always prioritize Eun-Ji's happiness and well-being above everything else."
"Of course," Jin replied without hesitation, feeling a weight lift from his shoulders. "That's all we want, too."
"Thank you, Soo-Min," Hoseok added, his voice filled with gratitude. "I promise we'll do everything in our power to make this transition as smooth as possible for Eun-Ji—and for all of us."
The sun peeked through a gap in the clouds, casting a warm glow on the table as Jin watched Soo-Min carefully. Her eyes were fixed on Hoseok, who had just returned from the counter with three steaming cups of coffee. The atmosphere was tense but tinged with hope, like the first buds of spring emerging from the frost-covered ground.
"Thank you," Soo-Min said, accepting her cup from Hoseok with a slight nod. It wasn't much, but Jin could see the beginnings of a thaw in her cold demeanor.
As they sipped their coffee, Jin glanced fondly at Hoseok's, feeling the heat of his hand resting on his thigh under the table. A warmth bloomed in his chest, and he felt gratitude for Hoseok's unwavering support. He glanced over at Soo-Min, catching her observing the interaction with a thoughtful expression.
"Jin," Soo-Min began hesitantly, "I've been thinking about what you said earlier, about how happy Hoseok makes you." She paused, looking down at her hands before continuing, "It's been a long time since I've seen you this... alive."
Jin's heart raced at her words, his mind replaying countless moments of laughter and tenderness shared with Hoseok. "He's brought so much joy into my life," Jin admitted, his voice thick with emotion. "And Eun-Ji adores him."
Soo-Min studied the two men across from her, her eyes softening as she took in the genuine love radiating between them. She seemed to be searching for something, some reassurance that her daughter would indeed be cared for.
As if sensing her thoughts, Hoseok turned to Jin, his voice filled with genuine curiosity to ease the worry emanating from her, “Did Eun-Ji finish her science project? I know she was really excited about it."
"Almost," Jin replied, a proud smile lighting up his face. "She's been working so hard on it, staying up late to ensure everything is perfect."
Soo-Min couldn't help but notice how Hoseok's eyes also shone with pride. It was clear that he cared deeply for Eun-Ji and her happiness.
She took a deep breath, her gaze meeting Jin's. "Jin," Soo-Min said, finally breaking her silence. "I can see how much you both care about each other—and about Eun-Ji."
Jin's heart swelled with a multitude of feelings. "We really do. Honestly, I haven’t been this happy in a long time," he said softly, tilting his head to look fondly at his partner.
"Let's take this one step at a time," Soo-Min suggested, a small smile tugging at the corners of her mouth. "For Eun-Ji's sake and for all of us."
As they continued to talk and share their hopes and concerns for the future, the sun beamed down upon them, illuminating the fragile, blossoming bond between three adults determined to nurture the happiness of the little girl who brought them together.
It wasn’t long after they parted ways, saying their goodbyes in front of the restaurant.
The sun dipped low in the sky, casting warm hues of orange and pink as Jin and Hoseok headed to the car. As they approached the vehicle, Jin pulled Hoseok slowly to a stop next to it. Jin leaned back against the car, guiding the younger man in front of him, situating him between his legs as their fingers tangled together.
Jin rolled his lip between his teeth, eyeing his partner. “So… we’re in love, huh?”
A vibrant blush crawled up Hoseok’s face, ducking his head. “I… um, I may have gotten ahead of myself.” Hoseok peeks up at Jin through his lashes. “But I wasn’t lying.” Hoseok took a deep breath, straightening up, “Jin, I love you.”
Jin’s eyes locked onto Hoseok’s, drinking in the words spilling from the man’s lips. The air around them seemed to hum with the weight of their emotions, drawing them closer together like a magnet. Jin felt his heart flutter and his stomach twists in knots, connecting him to Hoseok in a way he had never felt before. A tension crackled in the air, igniting a spark between them as they stood frozen in time.
Jin tugged Hoseok even closer, his hand cupping the slightly shorter man’s cheek. “I thought I wouldn’t ever feel like this again. Hell, even stronger than I have ever felt.” Jin’s plump lips spread in an ear-splitting grin, “Hoseok, I love you, too.”
The tension snapped as the two men collided, their lips gluing together. Hoseok's arms slid around Jin’s shoulders as Jin’s fingers dug into the slimmer’s waist. Their lips slipped and slid against each other. It felt like electricity crackled over their skin as they got lost in each other.
Having lost track of time, they don’t part until the sky is awash in blues and purples, and their lips are swollen and chapped. Their foreheads pressed together, heavy exhales brushing against their faces.
“Home?”
“Home.”
The next day, Jin stood in front of the window, feeling the familiar flutter of nerves in his stomach. He took a deep breath, his gaze flicking to Eun-Ji's bedroom door, where he could hear her laughter mingling with Hoseok's before turning back to the window.
"Jin," Hoseok approached silently, grazing his hand across Jin’s lower back as he stood beside him in front of the window. "You're going to do great. Just be honest with her."
"Thanks, Hobi," Jin whispered, trying to steady his racing heart. He knew how much Eun-Ji already adored Hoseok, but there was still a lingering fear that she might struggle to accept the changes in their family dynamic.
Taking another steadying breath, Jin rapped lightly on Eun-Ji's ajar door before pushing it open all the way. She looked up from the floor, where she and Hoseok had been assembling an intricate puzzle, her face lighting up at the sight of her father.
"Appa!" Eun-Ji exclaimed, clambering to her feet. "Come help us! Hoseok-ssi said we're almost done!"
Jin sat down on her bed, patting the space next to him as a silent request for her to join him. His voice wavered slightly as he began, "Actually, princess, I wanted to talk to you about something important."
"Is everything okay?" Eun-Ji asked, her brow furrowing in concern as she noted Jin's nervous demeanor.
"Of course, sweetheart," Jin assured her, guiding her to sit on the edge of her bed. He hesitated for a moment, searching for the right words. "You know how Hoseok has been spending a lot of time with us lately?"
"Uh-huh," Eun-Ji nodded, her eyes wide with curiosity. "He's fun and helps me with my homework sometimes."
"Right," Jin continued, his heart pounding in his chest. "Well, Eun-Ji, Hoseok, and I… we've grown very close. Not just as friends but as something more. I want him to be a part of our family."
"Like... as a brother?" Eun-Ji asked, tilting her head to one side.
Jin couldn't help but chuckle at her innocent interpretation. "No, sweetheart. More like how your mom and I were before we got divorced.” Jin worried at his lip before taking a deep breath and spitting it out. “Hoseok is my romantic partner now."
Eun-Ji blinked, sitting there silently for a moment before her eyes widened in understanding. Jin held his breath, waiting for her reaction. Then, to his immense relief, a bright smile broke across her face.
"Really? That's so cool! I love having Hoseok-ssi around!" she bubbled excitedly, bouncing up and down on the bed. "Does this mean he can come to my school events and stuff now?"
"Of course," Jin said, laughing with relief at her enthusiastic response. "And you can call him Hoseok-oppa if you want."
"Oppa," Eun-Ji tested the new name, beaming at Hoseok, who peeked through the door. "I like it!"
With that simple declaration, the last of Jin's worries dissolved, replaced by a warm glow of happiness and gratitude. Eun-Ji hopped off the bed, ran over to Hoseok, and pulled him over to Jin. She tugged on Jin’s hand until he stood up and pulled them both into a tight embrace, her little arms wrapping around their waists.
"Welcome to the family, Hoseok-oppa," Eun-Ji whispered, her words echoing the joy that filled Jin's heart.

he knows how they feel about birthdays, so he doesn’t go all out for theirs…. in terms of traditional birthday stuff. he’s still surprising them with breakfast, waking up hours before the sun rises to prepare. he still spent a long time picking out things to get them, and he still has a day planned for them, one that consists on their favorite things.
for now, he’s opening the door to the bedroom, carrying a plate of breakfast in one hand, and presents in the other. “ i know you don’t like today, so i didn’t go all out, but i just… wanted you to know how special you are. ” the presents are sat down by their feet, and the plate of gyeran bap is sat down on their lap.
there are four total packages, all wrapped in pink, all varying in size. the biggest package is a kuromi plush, not as large as the life size one, but still pretty big. the next one, a medium sized package, is probably the most cheesy. it’s a picture book, filled to the brim with photos, starting from when they first started dating, to where they are now. the smaller box holds a pink lighter, one that has their name engraved in it. and the last box, the smallest box, contains a rose gold necklace, with a kuromi and my melody pendant.
“ i was thinking we could go out later, do the things you like to do. you know, starting fires, breaking things. and we can visit your favorite place, too. get something for dinner and eat it on the rooftop? what do you say? ”
( have some college stuff maybe? )
ㅤalthough they've been awake for a while now, it's only the sound of the bedroom door opening that finally stops byan from trying to go back to sleep. stirring from their curled position, the smell of freshly prepared food draws their gaze over to sol as he approaches, but it's the sight of the meal paired with the stack of gifts he brings with him that makes them doubletake. scrambling to sit up, they stare wide-eyed and slack-jawed — first at the delicious smelling gyeran bap which finds their lap, then the collection of presents that are piled at their feet, and finally at their boyfriend's stunning face.
birthdays... still aren't their their favourite days. admittedly, they have gotten a bit more enjoyable over the last few years, but they still bring up a lot of unpleasant feelings and memories. somehow, they suspect they'll always find themself surprised when sol remembers and wants to celebrate. (too used to being forgotten and ignored, it's never been easy to move past that feeling of being unwanted. it's been ingrained too deeply within them from too young an age.) they also suspect that the emotional impact of this, of being remembered and loved and having such a big and significant show of it, will continue to overwhelm them year after year.
ㅤㅤ" babe, sol— how's this not all out? this is so much, y'didn't... y'didn't hafta do all this. "ㅤbut that doesn't mean they don't appreciate it a whole hell of a lot. still processing everything, from the gifts to the food to the words he's spoken, byan's gaze falls to the meal in their lap, which smells absolutely fucking delicious, though they don't grab for the spoon just yet. nor do they reach for the presents, curious as they might be to find out what's inside each. instead, they remain still, seated in a baffled silence as sol's words sink in and a multitude of emotions bubble up.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤlook at how much he cares. look at how much he loves you. you don't deserve all this. you don't deserve him.
before the first tear can fall, byan lurches forward. arms wrap tightly around their boyfriend's shoulders and pull him in closer as they bury their face against the side of his head, sniffling softly.
ㅤㅤ" i'd love that. all of it. just— so, so much. thank you. "ㅤtheir voice wobbles slightly, but the words themselves are full of conviction, of an earnest gratitude which they don't express often. he cares about them, he loves them so much, and they are so impossibly grateful for it. ...it's something they think they don't show him often or well enough.
with another quiet sniff, they tip their face back and press a gentle, lingering kiss above sol's ear, burying it in his hair.
ㅤㅤ" y'really are tryin'a make this the best day ever, aren'tcha? "ㅤdespite the embarrassment they feel for letting their emotions get the better of them, for the tears which roll silently down their cheeks and drip onto his shirt, an affectionate smile pulls at their lips.ㅤ" homecooked breakfast in bed, a stack'a presents with my name on it, destroyin' shit, an' dinner on the rooftop? an' all'a that with my favourite fuckin' person? y'know me way too well. i love you. "
another smattering of loving kisses is spread across the side of their boyfriend's head and face, byan giving him one final squeeze before releasing him to set their sights on the gyeran bap they're dying to tuck in to.
devouring the dish in near record time, all while leaning against sol and eagerly discussing his plans for the day with him, it's only once they've set their plate aside that they finally allow their attention to settle once more on the gifts still waiting for them. one by one byan tears into them, and with each gift opened comes more blubbering and more kisses, more thank yous and i love yous and oh my god it's fucking perfects. it's the photo album, however, that really gets them. a book full of all their most treasured memories, and confirmation that those moments meant as much to sol as they had to them? that one, they spend more time on, flipping through the pages and blinking tears out of their eyes so they can actually see each photo. all of the gifts are amazing, they plan to never take the necklace off or use another lighter again, but the photobook... that one's special. that one, they're going to come back to any time they have a bad day. they only hope that the kiss sol gets for it, square on the lips and wet with their tears, really conveys just how much it means to them. how much he means to them.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤi don't know where i'd be without you.
#lee-sol#━━ ˟ ⊰ ✰ answered: ic ⋮ i am a vulture that feeds on pain.#━━ ˟ ⊰ ✰ verse: college ⋮ here to change the vibes; a game changer.#this is SO late at this point and i'm so sorry#thank u so so much for sending this tho it's so fucking cute i've been thinking about it since i read it the first time ;A;#i wanted to give each gift its own moment but this was already so long by the time they got there lmfakjsdhds#pls just know that they're all incredible and byan loves all of them v v much. they love SOL v v V much

been eating this A Lot since I got my rice cooker! It's a "gyeran bap" (egg rice) recipe half-remembered from the internet. it's literally just. rice, egg, soy sauce, sesame oil, green onions, furikake i made a million years ago. thats it. also spam with syrup as "desert" because i want more protein but don't like spam in this meal.
also making a shit ton of rice and then splitting it into single-serving sizes (using a bowl lined with plastic wrap) is a fucking game changer. what the fuck. make three cups of rice and i have fresh rice all week.

this post is making me think of post-canon yohan cooking for gaon:
gaon trailing into the kitchen of their shared apartment after a long day. yohan's already there, dressed in comfy robes and lit up by summer evening sunlight. he hands gaon a bowl with a kiss to gaon's forehead, says he's making something good and to eat this while waiting.
it's a light dish of gyeran bap. the egg is brilliantly hued and lopsidedly nestled in fragrantly steaming rice lined with roasted seaweed. he's even separated out the gochujang, the way gaon prefers. something flutters in gaon's throat. he's hungry and hungering.
with his back against the counter, gaon eats standing up. the food is fragrant and hot, sliding down into his belly and pooling into softness. how long has it been since someone cooked for gaon? kept a running tally of his food likes and dislikes? pulled up spring onions from the back garden and julienned carrots and cabbage to swirl in a mix of spices and thinly sliced beef? deft hands stirring, chopping, flavouring, and scooping some up for gaon standing there with his empty bowl to taste, loving.
gaon blinks slowly as he accepts the proffered meat from yohan's chopsticks. the bulgogi is tender. it's sweet with asian pear, juicy from being mixed with too many vegetables too early, a little less salty than normal. it's perfect. he tells yohan so, who turns back to the pan with a remark about gaon's quick work on the egg rice--he's almost done cooking, then gaon can eat properly.
elijah is likely on her way home, accompanied by her sparkling-eyed and calm friend. together, they'll eat the dinner yohan prepared.
yohan, whose go-to food was once ramyeon when he was starved. yohan, who ate only for sustenance and chewed without tasting. yohan, who returned to korea for gaon and who, on their second night together, surprised gaon with a simple cooked dinner, the product of painstaking effort over the months they were apart.
does yohan realize he's pressing kisses all along gaon's insides? filling gaon to the brim with his fumbling efforts at traditional foods and lovingly crafted meals? joining the list of people who loved gaon so much they fed him? meeting all of gaon's longing for home and care and carefully homemade meals with an affection that's tenfold?
gaon swallows, holds his body in check for the moments it takes to breathe through the tidal wave of his affection. there's time for that now. the front door opens with giggles and calls spilling into the hallway. gaon presses a kiss to yohan's hair and goes to set the table.
love is stored in the kitchen
