🌿Gwaerufin🗡️
@noldorinpainter answered my casual request during a chat one day to draw Gwaeron (my Northern Sinda OC), and Curufin, son of Feanor.
Needlesstosay, I LOVE it! This is the perfect piece to commemorate finishing the fic featuring their ship, The Wind That Blows (locked to ao3 users only)
Thank you, arkadasim.🥰

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves Easter Eggs (Part 2)
[[ Part 1 can be found by clicking this link.
Deep in the Crevices
You've really got to search for these:
Mordenkainen: Yes, him again! Those are the three circles of his two-bladed sword on the Mordenkainen's arcane seal on the Castle Never vault. What's more, those same three circles appear on the front of the helmet of disjunction—which casts Mordenkainen's disjunction.
The spear of Aoth Fezim: Who? The Thayan warmage involved in the War of the Zulkirs during Szass Tam's takeover of Thay in the The Haunted Lands and Brotherhood of the Griffon series of novels by Richard Lee Byers from 2007 to 2013.
Trip and Shuffle: Introduced in A Reader's Guide to R. A. Salvatore's the Legend of Drizzt, marked only on maps since then. Only named on the Monopoly board.
Driftwood Tavern: From Neverwinter Campaign Setting and Drizzly novels. Only named on the Monopoly board and cast list. I don't even recall this in the movie.
The Citadel: Too dark to be sure, but the tower in Thay may be Szass Tam's base of operations.
Holga's darksteel greataxe: Made from darksteel and functioning roughly as last detailed in Magic of Faerûn and Volo's Guide to All Things Magical. This was forged by Ghelryn Foehammer of Targos, who appeared in 2e and 5e.
Loudwater: The thieves robbed Jolym of Jolym's Barrels & Packing in Loudwater, which was only mentioned in Volo's Guide to the North, 1993.
Zulkir Dmitra Flass: a 1300s Red Wizard of Thay, a non-speaking role and named only in the cast list.
Din Caldwell, of the Caldwell family of Baldur's Gate, named only in the cast list.
Porb Piiradost, of the Piiradost family of Waterdeep (not seen since 2nd edition), named only in the cast list.
Lord Nasher Alagondar: That's his giant statue outside the Neverwinter arena.
Lord Halueth Never: So possibly that's his giant statue next to Nasher's
The Gray Hands, just mentioned in the Neverwinter arena.
A portrait of Volothamp Geddarm in instrument to the heist.
How in the Hells Did You Find This?
The most obscure, the deepest cuts:
Pendant of invisibility: Kira's magic item. Most likely a coincidence as it wasn't on the wiki before, but it matches perfectly with a magic item of the same name in the back of Dungeon #112 in 2004.
The flashback of Szass Tam's spell and takeover of Thay appears to be a quick fictionalized summation of the events of The Crimson Gold and Unclean as well as the next century of Thayan history and descent into a necromancer's realm. Presumably this is set circa 1375 before Szass's coup and the Thayan civil war in the latter book.
Szass Tam's beckoning death spell for creating mass numbers of undead follows exactly the supposedly false story of "the spell of Undeath" that the would-be Harper King Rundorl Moonsklan and duped ally of Szass Tam spread in the early 1200s DR, as detailed in The Code of the Harpers by Ed Greenwood in 1993.
Whether or not it can be seen in the final cut of the film, thanks to an old photo from the set of the Triboar playhouse, we know there are images depicting the three boars for which the town was named as well as a shirtless man we assume to be Gwaeron Windstrom (given that god's relevance to the town).
Scenes of Lord Halueth Never and the early history of Neverwinter appear on the walls of Forge's office.
Wild Realmslore Theorizing
Insert meme of madman in front of conspiracy board here.
In Thay, it's "the eve of the solstice" and a few people are carrying red-and-yellow sun symbols. Amaunator the sun god has the summer solstice as his holy day and a sun holy symbol, particularly this one. While newly revived in 1374 DR and his association with Thay is unknown, it is plausible.
Daurgothoth moved into Dolblunde in the Year of Beckoning Death, 1253 DR, which has the same name as the Szass Tam's spell. Daurgothoth, the Creeping Doom, a dracolich, is also conspicuously absent from Dolblunde, while that necromantic spell for creating undead pours forth from something that looks like it just might be part of a dragon's horn.
We don't know officially what type of undead to classify Dralas and the other victims of Tam's beckoning death, however we note that they seem like perhaps a cross between the living Thayan knights and the unliving dread warriors (a favorite and original creation of Tam's).
----------------------------------------------------
Once again, credit for these finds goes to BadCatMan and the Forgotten Realms Wiki.
Once the movie hits streaming services, I’ll do an updated version of this post with movie screencaps to make it a more thorough visual guide. ]]

Because Drizzt believes in gods less as entities of their own and more as the personification of one's own ideals, it actually makes more sense for him to follow Gwaeron Windstrom like he did in Crystal Shard instead of directly Mielikki, in this essay I will-

If I made a Tabaxi Cleric of the Forge Domain, what Deity might he worship?
Kind sir, if I made a Tabaxi Cleric of the Forge Domain, what Deity might he worship?Just about any deity, but Malar, Chauntea, Red Knight, Mielikki, and Gwaeron Windstrom are all good "fits." — Ed Greenwood (@TheEdVerse) August 10, 2017

Next is my Elf (Wood Elf) Ranger (because im fucking basic) of the Beast Master Conclave (Very basic) (Soldier/Scout, Druidic Warrior) with a Black Jaguar as his companion named Ransan. He usually uses Archery as his main combat type but has a shortsword he carries (is actually a snapped in half longsword)(Fav Enemy: Orcs/Goblins) (Fav Terrain: Forest) He wears facepaint that covers large sections of his face (Seen drawn by me above).
Elhir Oakenglen
His Father (Endros) is a General in the woodland realm where he is from and his younger brother (Ehtan) is part of a type of royal guard he never really fit in to that kind of gilded role so he instead took up the path of a woodland vanguard to patrol and keep guard over the forests surrounding the realm he hasnt really been back home in decades (He's roughly 156 years old) and sends letters scarcely, usually to his mother (Almay).
As an Elf Elhir would worship Corellon Larethian and Rillifane Rallathil as a Ranger he prays to Solonor Thelandria, Mielikki, and Gwaeron Windstrom. (The Archeart/Wildmother in Exandria and Erastil in Golarion.)

alright alright ik, I'm going get it now- (← definitely didn't get distracted sketching for creatuanary-)
(Under the cut so u don't have to scroll too far if u don't wanna see:)
Front of the journal, some marker bled through so I just leaned into it and make it blood spatter (well- after I tried removing it and it started taking off the journal's color too-):
Table of contents (with page numbers in both Common and Elvish):
The actual journal entries:
Translations (with strikethroughs/mistakes documented for your amusement...also the italics are my notes):
KRISTRIS' JOURNAL (do not read…please-)
DAY 0 OF ADVENTURING:
Amya (mummy in Elvish) dearest thinks I shouldn't go and says that adventuring is too dangerous because not everyone comes back alive or in 1 piece. I know she's worried and I get where she's coming from, but I have to do this. I need to know what's out there and I have to find myself. Anyways, it's late, more tomorrow. – 4th day of Gwaeron Kristris ‹3 K.A.F.
DAY 1 OF ADVENTURING:
Amya cried this morning when I left. I'm gonna miss her, but I'll be fine. Now to find somewhere giving out quests. Talk later. – K.A.F
Udat Update: I found a tavern, hopefully they give out quests, more updates to come later. 1 (1 but in Elvish)
On the drawing:
Kristris (in what I assume is Elvish cursive, but idk, I tried my best- (╥﹏╥) someone help-)
5th day of Gwaeron
2 (2 but in Elvish)
Updad Update (I can't spell- ╥﹏╥ ):
I met a very nice tree man whom agreed to do a quest with me, more to come later tonight. ← he – K.A.F.
Update: he seems very intelligiblᵉ (← she/I didn't leave room cuz intelligible is a long word) and we've already made a plan. I wasn't paying attention earlier when we were getting our quest, but apparently the farmer whom we're helping wants us to capture the alpha of a pack of wolves terrorizing his livestock. I've already build built and set up a trap and the tree man is staring starting on other tasks like building a fire for when night falls. I'm also quite glad that he said the berries I found for breakfast are edible, for I always tend to have a hard time with foraging…although, I suppose luck is on my side this time. Will write more in the mu morning, I must try my best to focus my attentions that have been t led astray. – 5th day of Gwaeron K.A.F.
Good morn, journal! I have an update. We captured the alpha last night and scattered the rest. The farmer gave us coin and we h intend to re-home the alpha. 3 (3 but in Elvish)
More lad later. – K.A.F.
Update: I once again ↑ <was not paying attention> earlier and the farmer gave us metal, not coin. Also I named the alpha Yukon and if you cout couldn't tell from my amount of misspells and missed words, I'm very sleep deprived. Anyways, tree man said we're making weapons for me with h the metal, so more later. – K.A.F.
Update: I made a sword, dagger, and a long dagger and also quite hastily accepted a quest from a shady lady. I also showed tree man my ideas for cob candy and oat clusters. I don't have my plans for jerky with me, but I do have the sample, so it's fine. More later. – K.A.F.
SHE TRIED TO KILL US! SHE FRIGGIN' TRIED TO KILL US! bh that at crazy bag!! I had to throw my voice and hide up a tree and blood spattered on my face (that's also where the blood on her journal came from) and we mel met a silent knight who saved us from the ruffians and we almost died. My hands are shaking. – K.A.F.
I saw a firefly. That's all. – K.A.F. 4 (4 but in Elvish)
We made it to the tavern and the young man singing this night has a lovely voice. Amya might have looked at him differently if she were here as he's a tiefling, and a red one at that, but I think he looks cool! Might sketch him later. – K.A.F.
The tiefling boy was very nice and I tipped him 2 gold for his performance. I must go to sleep, but I want to sketch him first. – K.A.F.
On the drawing:
← the singer Kristris but in less messy Elvish "cursive"
6th day of Gwaeron 5 (5 but in Elvish)
DAY poorly written 3 3 OF ADVENTURING:
I forgot to write the 2nd day's adventuring header yesterday, but in my defense, I slept not the day before. I slept well last night thought. – K.A.F.
Update: tree man said he invited the tiefling boy from the tavern last night to go adventuring with us…speaking u of tree man, I asked his name and- pfhuuuu…my magic pen died. Of course. Anyways, he said the closest thing in common was…uhhh- something something strong wind. Anyways I've decided to instead call him "Zard", short for "wizard". He said that we have to go adventuring to find him a staff. I don't know why he doesn't just use another focus or something, but that's fine. Anyways, while we're waiting for the tiefling boy, we're going shopping and foraging for supplies. Fingers crossed the luck of the Gold Lord is with me as it was when I was picking berries the other day. That's all for now. – K.A.F.
Big update: we went scavenging for supplies and went to the store. We first went to the textile shop and bought 4 bolts of fabric I intend to turn into cloaks. I also bought
6 (6 but in Elvish) oats and nuts at the store and Zard got hardtack and salted meat at the store. We also got a doll the Shadow Knight wanted at the textile store. In gathering, Zard collected herbs and roots as well as several flowers to help us…meanwhile, I embarrassed myself by telling Zard that I poisoned a proff professor in foraging class and then proceeded to pick nothing but poisonous mushrooms for me, Zard, and the Shadow Knight so…anyways, I'm going to draw the Shadow Knight and his doll now. – K.A.F.
Translations on the drawing:
Kristris (in the best Elvish cursive I could think of last time, don't @ me)
← Shadow Knight
7th day of Gwaeron
7 (7 but in Elvish)
Update to my previous entry: on the way back to the tavern, I told Zard about the proficiencies I found I had with the Elves. That I'm better at sword fighting than dagger throwing, that I'm proficient in some histories, animal ham handling; especially wild ones, I have decent perception…well- most of the time- but I am good at lots of other things! I can cast comprehend languages fairly well and I know lots of music…though…it is mostly Elvish music and a little Dwarvish taught to me by Eloira. I also know a decent amount aba about investigating from various books I read and stories I was told about great and revered detectives and adventurers when I was younger. I also learned to tinker with what little I have on hand from legends and stories about an old legendary half-wood elf named Beef MacTynkver (← definitely not an Angus MacGyver reference- 👀)…anyways, the tiefling boy…I've been saying "boy" lightly, he's really around my age…anyways, he's not here at the tavern yet so we're waiting for him. In the meanwhile, there's a dwarf here singing sailor song and we've ordered dinner. I just hope to not embarrass, that is, make a fool of myself in front of the waiter. More to come. – K.A.F. 8 (8 in Elvish)
WELCOME BACK TO ANOTHER POLL WOOOOO!!
It's been a while, but I need a definite answer and I'm indecisive.
So context: the past few days (meaning last night and today-) I've been journalling in Elvish as one of my DND OCs and I've done two days of journal entry and a drawing and am working on more journal entries and doodles. So that being said, I've gotta know:

Dragon's Hoarding - Gwae
Coins are so fascinatin', don'y ye agree? They tell all sorts of different stories, and ye never know what ye're gonna find while collectin'... these shiny, shiny coins... I've amassed quite a hoard... I mean, a collection. Dragon? De ye mean counterfeits? Aye, dinnae tell anyone, but I've got a few of those too! Its hard to get them, ye know.
Cursed coins? Actually, in the numismatic community, those would be "uncirculated proofs with hexing devices obverse". I dinnae think I have any of those, but wouldn't that be something? Of course, I'm sure I'd notice. Now if you dinnae mind, I need to find some more coins to grow me hoard...
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In Alvez, the World of Kroashent, the size and value of a Wind Dragon's hoard determines its power, as their magic grows in proportion to their valued holdings. Sometimes, however, magically charged items can find their way out of a dragon's hoard into the possession of an unsuspecting individual with dramatic effects....
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Val's Notes: This one was inspired by a suggestion that came up during a live draw event on the Kroashent Discord. The idea was to transform some of the Kroashent girls (in this case, Marie and Enora) into dragonesses. I found the concept really fun and decided to work in the idea of the personal habits and collections of the characters being the triggers for such changes. In Gwae's case, her coin-collecting habit gets the better of her, and she goes a little overboard as her new draconic nature awakens, bringing her form along with it!
I'm planning on making a set of these, so keep an eye out for more to come!

All your support means a lot to me and helps bring the world of Kroashent to life! Patrons will be able to access three alternate versions of this piece! Check it out here: www.patreon.com/Kroashent

So, you’ve talked a little about the climate of Himring, but I’m the annoying type of person that needs numbers. How many degrees is it in the different seasons? How long do the seasons last for? If it were comparable to a place on Earth, where would that be (Norway maybe?) ? Sorry if this is a stupid question or you’ve already answered it somewhere lol :)
Not annoying!
World Building Masterlist which has the other Himring posts!
I hope this is ok! As always please feel free to ask more! I enjoy your questions!
So first a note on the Calendar
I will make a more detailed post on the months and seasons and a post on the seasons can by found in my second headcanon masterlist
Our source for this is an analysis of Tolkien’s many calendars called The Reckoning of Time
There are six seasons described in both Sindarin and Quenya;, Spring, Summer, Autumn or Harvest, Fading, Winter and Stirring. Spring, autumn, fading and stirring last 54 days each and Summer and winter last 72 days.
Their dates for seasons are also somewhat different than in the Northern hemisphere
Elves begin their year in the late month of Gwaeron, an equivalent of March. Spring lasts from March 21st until the middle of May. Summer is from mid May until late July. Autumn is from here until Late September. Then, before the start of fading there is a period of three days. Fading lasts until early November when Winter begins. Winter lasts until late January when stirring begins which lasts until mid March.
When exactly a system of twelve months was established in Beleriand is unclear (though it’s worth noting that twelve base systems for Valarin years existed in the Years of the Trees)
(Túrin’s birth month is given as Gwaeron or March though the calendar used by the humans was primarily associated with Númeanor.)
I go with the idea though that it did originate in the First Age, at least in some form
That being said, as I think you implied in your ask, the official start and finish of a season is not necessarily the same as the cultural or local understanding of a season based on the surrounding climate (for example spring might officially start on March 21st in much of the Northern hemisphere but not all places consider it officially spring until snowfall becomes less frequent which might not happen until April)
Himring winters definitely last longer, typically the period from Mid November (Hísimë in Quenya, Hithui in Sindarin) to late March.
The transitional seasons named by the elves, Stirring and Fading, are far less defined in the March of Maedhros.
Spring, when the snow melts and plants start to grow is typically from early April to late June with the high summer characterized by long days and the warmest weather lasting only two months, during July and August. Autumn or Harvest and Fading blend together from September to mid November and finally, Stirring is typically considered only truly in the weeks before the beginning of spring
Winter temperatures generally range -8 degrees Celsius/18 degrees Fahrenheit to -25 Celsius/-15 Fahrenheit (including windchill)
Summers are fairly mild with an average of 21 degrees Celsius or 70 degrees Fahrenheit. It rarely gets above 78 degrees Fahrenheit/26 degrees Celsius.
spring is still very cold with 40 to 50 degrees Fahrenheit or 4 to 10 degrees Celsius being common.
Autumn temperatures are mild at first but drop quickly with heavy winds. Similar temperatures to spring at first with temperatures below 40 degrees Fahrenheit or 4 degrees Celsius often starting in Mid October if not earlier
Precipitation is actually low though snow might remain on the ground for much longer around the year. Precipitation in the taiga is usually rain the summer as well as snow and fog.
As for real life place comparisons, yay! This means I get to talk more about ecoregions and biomes! (Explanation here)
The most likely biomes are boreal forest and taiga or tundra. Tundras are defined by tree growth that is (negatively) impacted by low temperatures though the growing season like with taiga might be longer than in other places as the native flora has a temperature to trigger growth that is lower than plants in warmer climates. Taiga, also known as boreal or snow forests are defined by coniferous forests of mainly pine, spruce and larch in the global North in colder climates.
As always please feel free to ask more!

“Have no fear! For Help has arrived!” Proceeds to stab the person who they say this to.
I should not be allowed to name characters. Help started as a joke and now I’m getting really, really freaking attached to them. Especially good, as our campaign is getting close to its end, sadly. However, that doesn’t mean Stgeve doesn’t have a romantic partner that the DM and I both want her to end up with, and that certainly doesn’t mean she doesn’t have a kid with them.
Help has gone through some serious design changes over time, but most drastic was the color palette and the horns. Help originally wasn’t going to be Natasha’s kid as well, but the child of a person Stgeve most desperately wants to ressurect: her childhood sweetheart Peony. As for the horns, you can see the old design in the picture showing off the tattoo and the nails; they most closely resembled that of a Black Dragon! In fact, they still would be if I didn’t hate drawing them, so I changed them to be smaller and less curled but still sticking straight up like Stgeve’s.
Now the sword and bow aren’t magical, they’re just gifts from Stgeve. They just look cool.
The cloak, which they use to cover their wings while out and about to reduce risk of wear and tear on the membrane, is something they saved up for their entire life and only recently purchased from a seamstress in Miniwood, which is decorated with the holy symbol of Bahamut next to the clasp (which, I should mention, I’m super proud of), and various holy symbols around the edge. The ones seen on this side are as followers: Gwaeron Windstrom, Chauntea, Eldath, Silvanus, Ilmater, and Lathander. Not sure about the other side but I’ll deal with that as it comes about haha.
Backstory under the cut.
Introducing Help Hunter Esteban, born Socorro Paoni Estgeban (silent G). Nonbinary and Genderfluid, with no real preference for pronouns.
Born to Stgeve/Aubade Estgeban and Natasha (unknown surname), Socorro is a winged half-tiefling (feral winged tiefling mechanically) with no real magical talents barring the growth of wings that they often cover their their cloak and hood. These wings are scaly but they’re softer than even a dragonborn’s unusually soft scales.
Aubade has several theories, including the fact there is a Gold Dragon about 10 years back in her bloodline on her mother’s side, but she generally assumes it’s a combination of that and being around people who could fly using magic for so long. Either way, chasing a flying child is hard when you can’t fly.
Growing up, Socorro was often babysat by a variety of people Aubade had befriended on her travels, from an Aasimar Tempest Cleric to their grandmas and grandpas to, most surprisingly given their mother’s distaste for thieves, some of the higher ups of the Thieve’s Guild, specifically a human woman he later came to know as Auntie Nox. Nox is one of the highest ranking members in the Thieve’s Guild, despite working as an assassin and not a thief.
During this period of time in which he was under Nox’s care, Nox was given an urgent mission to take out someone who would be in the city for a short period of time. They were told to stay out of the way and hide nearby, but they couldn’t help but take a peak at the sight.
When they were in their mid-teens, Socorro announced they were genderfluid, and changed to a virtue name: Help. It was also at this point their begged their ‘Uncle Arti’ (”Stop calling me that” “Nu”) to let them join the Guild to train with their Auntie.
And that they did, beginning to do small jobs for the Guild and occasionally bringing home gifts for their mothers, but staying with their other family as much as possible (and annoying the crap out of some of the more...shady individuals).
However, it does seem little Help, while a flirt and a charmer in the streets, has their eye on a high elf woman who’s been a thorn in their side since they started working for the Guild.

Name: Drizzt Daermon N'a'shezbaernon (Often Stylized as Drizzt Do’Urden) Date of Birth: Eleint 17, 1297 Dale Reckoning (Used to be ballparked at 140 in the mid-1300s DR, but is generally anywhere from nearing his first century to the middle of his second in my portrayals, unless specified otherwise) Species: Elf Ethnicity: Drow Citizenship: Menzoberranzan (Formerly in most verses), Mithral Hall (Formerly prior to Bruenor’s first death), Icewind Dale (Formerly, changed to Mithral Hall after its rediscovery), Northwest Faerun, The Silver Marches (Through his Range) Height: 5′4″ Weight: 130 lb. Godly Patron: Mielikki Known Languages: Drow Elvish, Undercommon, Goblin, Drow Sign-Language (In Most Verses) Common, Svirfneblin Gnomish Gender: Male (cis) Pronouns: He/Him/His Sexual Orientation: Gray-Romantic Asexual Occupation: Ranger, Adventurer, Explorer
Personality: Drizzt Do’Urden is a thoughtful and righteous person, an elf of upstanding morals, though constantly challenged and growing with them. Empathetic, Drizzt often tries to see things from the perspective of others, although he frequently fails to do so, often learning only after it is far too late. One such case is coming upon the realization that he should resign from his oath to not kill other Drow, as he did evil members of other races, as they were not to be held on some sort of pedestal.
Raised by other Drow, Drizzt initially had little racial or cultural tolerance, though his time on the surface did much to advance his perceptions of others, particularly through his own search for tolerance and acceptance. Drizzt particularly credit his human wife Catti-brie for developing a more accepting perspective, but it was through his interactions with many kinds of people, both members of The Companions and others, that Drizzt learned to accept the differences in the world.
For reasons not entirely clear, Drizzt does hold a particular enmity for goblins, having only met a scarce few that he hasn’t attempted to kill, or holds in any regard besides as mindless monsters. Even with this, Drizzt has managed to meet a fellow ranger who was a goblin that he considers to be an ally.
A perfectionist in many regards, Drizzt holds himself to a much higher standard than he does others, often having trained for days at a time in his youth to master a single sequence of swordplay maneuvers. This even extends to his own ideals, often berating himself over minor lapses of judgement, while easily forgiving his friends and peers for far more serious character flaws.
Drizzt holds a sincere and true love for swordplay, associating it with some of the happiest times in his life, when he was training with his father Zaknafein. Even into his time on the surface Drizzt would never allow his skills to dull TOO much, and he would often spend quality time with his mate/spouse Catti-brie training her in swordplay, when she had intentions to use the intelligent sword Khazid'hea (or Cutter in the common tongue). During his second century Drizzt’s attention towards his swordplay skills would grow, and he would begin to pursue true perfection with his blades, and in his body.
While Drizzt is a devout follower of Mielikki and Gwaeron Windstrom, two gods who rangers often worship, the elf lives a largely secular life. While many actions he performs are on behalf of his patrons, Drizzt has little desire to do as others dictate, particularly the gods. If his god or goddess demands of something that he disagrees with, or simply finds wrong, he simply will refuse to do it.
In times of stress or danger Drizzt has been known to slip into a mental state which he calls “The Hunter”, an extension, or suppression depending on the perspective, of Drizzt’s personality that allows him to solely focus on the tasks at hand, combat, and the hunt. It’s in this state that Drizzt achieves his peak in terms of physical prowess and combat ability, with even his senses seeming to become enhanced. While in this state, though, Drizzt becomes more akin to an animal, losing that which makes him Drizzt, causing this to be an inherently stressful state to come from entirely. It has been implied on several occasions that each time Drizzt enters this state it becomes harder for him to return to his senses, particularly during long periods of relying on The Hunter. In order to maintain his humanity Drizzt often intentionally suppresses The Hunter when he feels himself entering the disassociative state.
Abilities and Skills: -Conditioning: Drizzt Do’Urden is a ranger with an extremely active lifestyle, and before this lived a life that either prepared him to be a part of, or was a part of, the Drow military structure. Bearing that in mind, the physical condition of Drizzt’s body is naturally impressive. Boasting above-average strength (both on his sheet and logically from the novels) Drizzt is able to handle metal weapons and wear metal armor without quickly tiring. If associated with Dungeons and Dragons rules regarding strength, Drizzt should be able to bench press in the neighborhood of 175 lb. while not exceeding 200 lb. Additionally, he should be able to perform similar feats of strength in other areas, given that he isn’t a power-lifter, and comes by this strength through sheer athleticism.
In terms of endurance Drizzt also remains above average, if not downright superhuman in some occasions, as Drizzt has been able to fight for inhumane stretches of time against stronger-than-human threats. Greatest of all in these feats can be attributed to fighting for an extended period of time against a swamp full of trolls, while his compatriots were forced to stop and sleep, and the occasion on which he reverted to his “Hunter” persona to attempt to single-handedly take on an army of roughly 1000 Orcs (not head-on but through subterfuge) killing many encampments in the process.
Most noteworthy of Drizzt’s physical abilities are his coordination, agility, and quickness. Otherwise summed up as his dexterity. Drizzt is considered to be downright superhuman in this regard, having been able to perform impressive feats of hand-eye coordination and quickness as an adolescent with no teaching, or apparent practice, in such areas. This is attributed to an inherited quality from his father Zaknafein being coupled with his natural Elven grace. However, beyond this natural talent, Drizzt has spent many years, likely in excess of tens of thousands of hours, training and honing these skills, particularly in tandem with swordplay. This has become so impressive that he is rivaled by very few humanoids in his world, and at one point was considered one of the six greatest swordfighters in Toril, some of whom beat him in terms of skill, but didn’t rely on quickness or speed to do so.
-Spellcasting: Considered to be a common ability among elvenkind, Drow have a more pronounced ability with magic, being able to cast more powerful magic due to it being a component of their necessary military training. Drizzt is an example of one of the Drow who received this type of training, learning to innately cast a number of spells through his noble status (as it seems that Drow practice some form of eugenics that allow the nobility to have this ability) such as levitation. This was further supplemented with the actual magical education that he was required to complete as a part of his military training, further educating Drizzt to be able to create orbs of impenetrable darkness, or wreath objects and people in harmless faerie fire. However, after spending a significant time on the surface, Drizzt has found that he lost the ability to levitate intuitively, as the magical element faerzress, which inadvertently enhances a Drow’s magical ability and resistance, only exists on the surface. Despite spending time in the Underdark after losing this ability, Drizzt has never regained the ability to levitate.
In addition to his natural spellcasting, Drow have additional resistance to magic, as faerzress seem to have naturally imparted this power to the dark elves. As faerzress prevents many proper styles of divination to transcend the Surface-Underdark barrier, or even most forms of teleportation to, from, and within, the Underdark, from functioning properly, Drow have manifested this adaptation to even each other’s magic. This does not entirely make Drizzt immune to magic, though, as on several occasions he has been affected, to mortal degrees in some cases, by spells and magical artifacts. Drizzt also seems to have no resistance towards magically enhanced weaponry, or psionic powers.
-Senses: Drizzt has honed his senses over a great stretch of time. Elves have naturally acute hearing and vision, even having the ability to see in the darkness as if it were a moonlit night. Drow, however, not only can do this, but can shift their eyes to perceive things in the infrared spectrum. This benefit can often prove to be a fatal weakness, though. For a long time sunlight would actually cause Drizzt’s skin pain, as if it were burning, related to an ancient curse cast upon the elven tribe that would become Drow that would discourage them from trying to inhabit the surface.
Over the years Drizzt has learned to tolerate this pain, and isn’t particularly negatively affected by sunlight, or torchlight, but sudden bursts of particularly bright light will still have a pronounced result on the ranger. He will often be stunned for several times longer than a human of similar hardiness when exposed to bright bursts of light from any kind of source, which is exacerbated further if he was using his infravision at the time.
Notably Drizzt’s senses are considered to be especially sharp due to his training, time in the wilds of the underdark, strong instincts, and training to become a ranger. Drizzt is often able to be aware of another’s approach in most circumstances, especially in subterranean conditions, far before they are aware of his presence. This has proven to be the case even when the other is a Drow, implying that his vision in the dark is still even sharper than that of other Drow. However, this may have been dulled somewhat due to his decades of surface life.
Like all elves, Drizzt is naturally able to detect magical fields, and determine when magic is at-play, although he lacks the ability to naturally identify the nature and effect of that magic.
-Ranger Skills: Although it is often eclipsed by his skill with the blade, or forgotten as it is almost a secondary detail of the myth surrounding “the greatest swordsman in the realms”, Drizzt is a ranger who worships the goddess of ranger Mielikki. As such, he has learned a number of skills on this path that serve the Drow well. Despite not keeping a true animal partner, as Guenwhyvar is a magical beast with whom he shared a friendship prior to becoming a ranger, Drizzt is able to effectively communicate and empathize with most non-magical, non-human-intelligent, animals. In the past he spent several days befriending a sea lion, teaching him how to fetch, then effectively having the sea lion recover his lost figurine that housed Guenwhyvar.
In addition, if his stat sheets are to be believed, Drizzt is able to cast intermediate-to-rudimentary (dependent on the edition of the game) nature spells that Rangers can cast. Due to the nature of his presentation in the setting, however, this is manifested more as a unique set of skills that replicate or approximate the spells: animal friendship, entangle, pass without a trace, detect animals or plants, charm person or mammal, speak with animals, warp wood, hold animals, snare, spike growth, protection from elements, control plants, neutralize poison, nondetection. However, the extent of Drizzt’s skills as a ranger are often left to be considered vague as Mr. Rob Salvatore often places little emphasis on them when the plot doesn’t call for it. I tend to headcanon that in terms of book lore he’s on the higher end for a ranger (more in line with his AD&D stat block) while in game lore he has less than half of his character levels devoted to ranger. To some degree I will acknowledge these spells in a “skill-based” capacity and not a true casting one.
Despite this skill being one he developed in the Underdark, it should be noted that Drizzt is a skillful tracker, able to follow paths and clues left behind to practically follow his quarry nearly the length of the sword coast (two to three times the length of the US Western Coastline) through land and sea to find his friend, though this was accomplished with a combination of traditional tracking and information gathering.
Naturally, as a ranger, Drizzt is a capable survivalist, and even has received training in traditional bows in order to assist in hunting game. He is able to survive in the wilds without the needs for society indefinitely.
-Thief Training: Although this skillset is common enough in rangers, it again was something that Drizzt learned as a part of his time in the Underdark. Handling locking mechanisms, moving stealthily and quickly, as well as detecting others, were all skills that were reinforced throughout Drizzt’s education and preparation for a Drow military-style life. However, these were honed and further trained during both his time in the caverns of the Underdark’s wild, eluding the other Drow, and time on the surface, a place in which stealth requires a wholly different set of skills. Not especially talented in handling devices, Drizzt is not capable of picking particularly advanced or complex locks.
-Combat: Drizzt is considered one of the most skilled swordfighters in his world, not accounting for gods, swordsfighters with additional limbs, or otherwise supernaturally-exceptional swordfighters who exceed the natural limits of mortals. Trained in a variety of weapons by his father, Drizzt is capable with most traditional weapons that he picks up, but especially favors scimitars and sabers, used in a dual-longblade fighting style that Drow commonly employ.
Practically without peer during his training, Drizzt as a youth was already one of the most skilled swordsmen in Menzoberranzan, dwarfed only by his father and possibly several of his father’s rivals. But in the intervening time, Drizzt has come to be second only (in his eyes and true fact) to his father among elven swordsmen. Due to his dexterity and quickness, as well as by overwhelming his foes with two weapons, Drizzt is able to dictate the terms of a duel, and often keep them that way.
Drizzt’s skill with a sword is so considerable that he has been able to defeat the likes of Orc, Giant, Dragon, Demon, and Elf alike, although not always without assistance from one of his companions. In terms of most duels, though, Drizzt is seen by many as peerless. As a result of his experiences, Drizzt has learned to fight while handicapped, not needing the use of his eyes to fight effectively. With practice and training Drizzt has proven able to utilize his magic in tandem with his swordplay to make himself an even more terrifying opponent, and in the most dire circumstances, slipping into The Hunter to become a true force to be reckoned with.
Throughout his career of fighting, Drizzt has shown great improvisational ability, often being able to formulate unorthodox tactics to catch his opponents off-balance, or even launching devastating kicks to stun a foe.
Many of Drizzt’s martial achievements have only been accomplished in his first century, during a time in which the elf had little interest in truly perfecting his abilities in combat.
Possessions and Equipment: Figurine of Wondrous Power (Onyx Panther)(Guenwhyvar): A unique and powerful version of the often coveted magical item, the beautiful statue allows for Drizzt to summon the panther Guenwhyvar from the astral plane. She is not bound like most creatures are to the service of her statue’s owner, but chooses to serve as Drizzt’s companion. Guenwhyvar dearly loves her master, but is only able to remain manifested for a limited amount of time. If she is slain or injured, this shortens the time that she may remain on the Prime Material Plane, and if she remains for too long, she begins to grow weak until the magic dismisses itself.
+5 Defending Scimitar (Twinkle): An elven blade in origin, this scimitar is a weapon that Drizzt was given by the wizard Malchor Harpell, to assist him in chasing down the assassin Artemis Entreri, who had kidnapped his friend Regis.
+3 Frostbrand Scimitar (Icingdeth): A mysterious scimitar discovered in the hoard of a dragon for which the blade was named, this artifact-like weapon is able to glow like a torch in below-freezing temperatures, extinguish both mundane and magical fire, and it seems to be good for slaying demons.
Bracers of Blinding Strike: Taken as a prize from a duel against the weapon master Dantrag Baenre, these bracers hold the ability to enhance the speed of whosoever wears them. Drizzt chooses to wear them on his ankles so as to enhance his natural speed, rather than on his wrists, where it has a negative impact on his unpredictable fighting style.
Mithral Chainmail: A shirt of fine chainmail crafted by a dwarven smith, it provides excellent protection.
Spider-Silk Shirt: Worn beneath, or sometimes instead of, his chain. Drizzt pilfered this piece of armor from the Drow assassin Ad’non. When worn with traditional chainmail it is supposed to provide innumerable protection from all but the most fatal attacks.
Ranger’s Longbow: Once belonging to his mentor “Mooshie”, this is a fine longbow that functions extremely well, particularly in the hands of a trained ranger.
Andahar’s Whistle: A magically-enchanted whistle that could call forth the trained unicorn Andahar. A magical creature, Andahar had been commissioned for the elf by the Silverymoon ruling council.
Ring of Elemental Command (Fire): Hosting a number of effects, read further in your D&D manual of choice.
Belt of Ogre Strength: A belt that simulates the strength of an ogre in the wearer.... Duh.
Piwafwi: A drow cloak that allows Drizzt to better hide. It is insulative, making him practically invisible to infravision, and when the hood is raised can simulate the effects of an invisibility spell.
Mundane Gear: Drizzt keeps leather over-garments that he often wears atop his armor, to hide the mithral’s natural shine in the shadows. As well he often wears fine boots that hide within them a pair of daggers. Drizzt is also known to carry rations with him, tools for dungeoneering, and a self-maintained map of his range (Northwestern Faerun).
