Nel dipinto è ritratto un paesaggio con un’ampia distesa verde.

Alcuni cespugli di rose crescono sotto alti alberi dalla chioma molto folta.

Klimt dipinse "Rose", che é il titolo originale, a Litzlberg (Alta Austria),

in prossimità di un lago, durante le vacanze estive dove soggiornò per due anni, nel 1904 e nel 1905.

Nel 2021 il governo francese, dopo 83 anni, ha deciso di restituire il dipinto di Gustav Klimt ai legittimi eredi.
