Now I didn't get the same amount of engagement in my last post as I did my first, but I did get interesting results with Psych winning and Elementary a close second. It's almost like once you remove the ship, people remember the other characters?

Now I was going to ask who the best modern Sherlock was. Then I decided on something else.

Burton "Gus" Guster. Character of all time. His middle name should be "Yes And". He is ride or die but he will kvetch about it. He is literally screaming crying throwing up. He's divorced. He has strong opinions about Pluto. He almost joined a cult. He claims his bestie on his taxes. He can tap dance and sing like a pro. He blogs about marine animals. He has so many niche interests. His bestie had to blackmail his boss to allow him to continue running around solving crime. He accurately deciphered the text message "binshot not lol". He went undercover as a model. He's not over losing the spelling bee as a child. He owns a shirt advertising cold sore medicine. He drove a stolen car to San Francisco to be with his bestie and only turned around 12 times. He's a sympathetic crier.

I’m so glad they made Gus smart. I’m so glad they made Gus a teammate that speaks his mind and rolls his eyes at the “wacky but cool and always right” protagonist. I’m so glad that he’s a real person who has a life and a job and his own skillsets that rival yet complement Shawn’s. Shawn is fun and makes sure he’s the focal point of the show but I really think the show would be empty without Gus.

If Psych only followed Shawn I’m convinced I would find him irritating and, at times, unwatchable. But there’s something about Gus being there and being exasperated and yet backing Shawn up and correcting him when he’s wrong and Shawn actually listening that makes them. the best duo.

Best Sherlock/Watson Meet-cute

As expected Lucy!Watson slayed like the queen she is. There's also something warming seeing that both of the Watsons of color doing well when both of the actors faced a fair share of racism from their fandoms.

Since we all like our ships around here, I figured I'd poll which Meet-cute is the best favorite. None of our Sherlock-Watson duos had the same introduction, so I thought this would be fun.

So I was thinking about the psych episode scary sherry bianca's toast, where killer was avenging her best friend's death and asks Shawn what he would have done, if it was Gus. The moment after she says this, the tone changes slightly, it's tense and everyone is looking at shawn to see what his reaction is. Shawn kinda stops and stares and there's no humour or anything on his face, but then the moment breaks he realizes he left Gus in the "haunted" asylum.

We are meant to laugh at how he forgot Gus but Shawn doesn't actually answer. Verbally. We see through his actions.

In one of the yin yang eps where Gus is about to get the lethal injection, shawn threatens to kill the guy

And sure we can see this as him trying to stop the guy but we see that once his loved ones are actually hurt, Shawn kinda goes off the rails. Like the santabarbaratown eps where his dad gets shot, Shawn is unhinged, he doesn't care about anything, he's violent, he's intensely focused on getting revenge

Now psych usually puts comedy over continuity. It's meant to be a fun show so of course, but when they get serious, they get really serious and I think through these episodes we get our answer to what shawn would do if gus was murdered. And I don't think he would get caught either

"Gus, don't be the only black lead on a major cable network" is a line engrained in my brain 😭 i love Shawn's "Gus, don't be" running joke but the ones like this where he breaks the 4th wall are especially hilarious
