Gurren lagann au where kamina survives but has PTSD and retired and developed common sense and becomes a cynic.
Now that first part is plausible. But him developing Common sense? Nah, that aint him.
But that might be a good what if to tackle.
(What if Kamina survived the Raid on Daigunzan?)
-The events leading up to the raid happened nearly identical. Even Simon seeing Kamina and Yoko kiss which messed with him.
-Kamina gets Simon back into the right head space. He enters Gurren, and everything seems to be fine. But something... felt off. And Kamina reacted. It was a split second faster, but he still got hit by Thymilph's sneak attack. But Because of his reaction, the wounds werent fatal... but it was close.
-Team Gurren managed to get the Daigunzan. But Kamina was badly injured. And fell into a Coma
-Kamina needed time to recover. And the air was similar to what it was. People were distraught and Simon blamed himself. There was not as intense of a power struggle as Kamina was still technically alive, but Simon was being reckless and people were pissed.
-This does result in Simon walking the same path that helps him meet Nia.
-Simon still goes through his depressive arc and Kamina is still in a coma. Nia doesnt understand why Simon is so depressed if Kamina is still alive.
-The events leading up to Simon's speech happen the same, and it was in that moment Kamina wakes up. Kamina witnessed the speech Simon gave. And after the win. Kamina calls it down right manly.
-Everyone is glad that Kamina is back, the leader is returned. But this is where Kamina says something no one expects.
-"Im not the leader. He is your leader." Pointing to Simon."
-This shocks the Dai-gurren group. But Kamina explains that he is still not fully healed. (He is missing an Eye and a Leg). He is still one foot in the grave, but Simon. He has shown he can be the leader. Simon isnt quite sure, but Kamina insists on it. Simon says that he will lead until Kamina is healed.
-Kamina tells him that Simon is a man, and that he should lead no ifs, ands, or butts.
-Simon and the others accept Kamina's wishes.
-Kamina didnt fully recover until the fight with the Spiral King happened.
-And only then with his and Simon's Combined Spiral Power did they win against Lord Genome.
-But it was Simon that dealt the final blow. Simon was the one who made it great.
______________________________________________________________
-Kamina was not the symbol like he was in Canon, but he was fine with that. Simon and Him were running the world. Simon was a lot less depressed and more confident with Kamina around. Kamina and Yoko even ended up married to him. And yes, she gives him a ton of crap whenever he does something dumb.
-Simon does propose to Nia, and as with the whole Anti-Spiral Debacle It goes a bit crazy.
-Simon is thrown in Jail, and Kamina has to lead to try and pick up the pieces, basically trying to keep Rossiu's Coup from succeeding.
-After Simon is out and they take the fight to space. Thats when things get a bit more nuts.
-Kittan still dies like he does in canon, though he doesnt Kiss Yoko. Because... well she's married.
-Kamina realized that during the fight with the Anti-Spiral, he is a dead man walking. That it was Simon's spiral power that actually kept him alive. And that Spiral power was keeping Simon from pushing through to his full potential.
-Kamina accepted his fate and told Simon the truth. He said his goodbye to Yoko. (Who btw, finds out she is pregnant shortly before this.)
-And Simon gets the spiral power back plus interest. Which combined with everyone, was able to finally help put down the Anti-spiral.
-Kamina did end up dead in the end. Because Gurran Lagann is about moving to the future,

Do you know anything about Arthur C Clarke's reception in Japan and in Japanese pop culture? I just finished reading Childhood's End because I've seen it referenced in Xenogears, Gurren Lagann and Planet With, which isn't objectively a lot but more than the zero times I've seen it in American pop Scifi. Makes me curious how big he was over there.
Oh yeah, he was quite big in Japan! Essentially "all" the classic Sci Fi was, and Clarke was one of the biggest. Childhood's End specifically was one of Yukio Mishima's favourite books, for example. All of his works were pretty widely translated soon after release (Childhood's End was definitely available in Japan in the 1960's, that I know), and were very popular with both the SF crowd and the literary scene. In general, he was the right blend of "hard" sci fi with fantastical/spiritual elements that was very much in vogue at the time. And in the early history of Japan's animage community, those were all mushed together as one scene, only moving to more separate tracks in the 1980's. I remember in one of the essays I translated over the years, literary critic Nozomi Omori (in 1997) makes one of those "classic works like" comments and Clarke/Childhood's End is his go-to to illustrate the point. I think you can argue it is in the top 5 most famous works in this era.
A bunch of the specific references you are seeing are the unique lineage of some ~80's anime works like Space Runaway Ideon: Be Invoked. Yoshiyuki Tomino (gundam creator), who directed the film, was a big Clarke fan, 2001 most specifically I think, and the film has several direct nods to him. There are other works that draw from this well, Ideon is just the biggest, and the one that was the most direct inspiration for Evangelion as Anno was a big fan. From there you can see the references go out - Gurran Laagan is a Gainax work, Planet With's creator Satoshi Mizukami was a huge Gainax fan (particularly FLCL, shout out!), etc - as you get later the references become second-order like that, less people reading the classics but the ideas are in the water. Though I don't want to overstate that direct link - Xenogears lead creator Tetsuya Takahashi is just a direct fan of Clarke as well, and explicitly pulled from such works for the project (you can see a bunch in works by Square in the 90's)
Though a personal note, you will if you google around find people saying Evangelion was "referencing" Childhood's End with Instrumentality? Best I know that isn't true, instrumentality itself as a word is a nod to Instrumentality of Mankind by Cordwainer Smith, and Anno is on record saying it is a shallow reference, he just thought the word sounded cool. Anno was not a classic SF fan, he is one of those "second order" guys where he is picking up the stuff movies like Ideon are putting out, but isn't interested in their classic origins.

THOUGHT GAINED: PULL THE TRIGGER
I can not stress enough that the very concept of a Disco Elysium Anime done by the studio TRIGGER would be the most DISCO fucking thing on the god damn planet and I'd trust no other studio to make it. Please just THINK about how EPIC this shit would look. I'm going to draw this. Like fake frames from a movie. I'm just trying to figure out WHICH style to follow. There's Little Witch Academia, BNA, Promare, Kill La Kill, PANTY & STOCKING WITH GARTERBELT, Gurran Lagann, Dungeon Meshi and more. Though for that Psychedelic Disco sheik, I'm leaning Promare and BNA aesthetic with Kill La Kill off model humor... I've a concept on this fictitious 2 hour movie. Taking place 6 months after the game, and starts with a few minor cases happening in Jamrock while also exploring some backstory for our two detectives that results in Harry and Kim stumbling onto the concealed origins of The Pale, and the realization behind "AFTER LIFE -- DEATH; AFTER DEATH -- LIFE AGAIN. AFTER THE WORLD -- THE PALE; AFTER THE PALE -- THE WORLD AGAIN" (AKA we're talking Reincarnation, baby! This fucking Disco Dance be going on for Millions of years~) and ultimately also saving Revachol from impending explody doom which in turn saves Elysium, and breaking the cycle all while being as Homo-Erotic AS fucking possible and simultaneously giving every Studio TRIGGER vibe imaginable.
#disco elysium#what if but TRIGGER anime?#Wonder what DE2 was suppose to be about - anyone know?#like would we have gotten to explore Jamrock with our boys?#would the game read your previous game saves and start you off in that direction but allow you to reshape as you went?#ANYWHO ~ SO knowing Studio TRIGGER#they love doing silly dumb shit off model and wacky 2 second bullshit#You KNOW at certain moments we'd see Kim go Cat like in the most silliest seconds#a blink and you'll miss it moment#Thinking how Harry's skills would be portrayed oh so amazingly#SO MY PERSONAL HC FOR HARRYS REAL VOICE IS A SLIGHTY GRUFFER STEVE BLUM ALA SPIKE SPEIGAL FROM COWBOY BEBOP#A lot of people go by the 'success' Karaoke voice but the 'failed' Karaoke voice is completely different so~#I think it's in betweenish#But then we get like ALL the previous VAs in on this shit yo!#Would be so epic#Le Sigh. . . If only in this World...

You know, I've been doing these little book reviews on Discord for all my friends. I should do some here, too, since I think y'all will like it. Here's one:
Book: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/63252971-luminescent-machinations
Short story compilations have always been hit or miss with me. It's really a dice roll as to whether or not any particular story is any good. I've read compilations where the majority are pretty lackluster with only a few gems in it to ones where everything is pretty damn good. Fortunately, this is one of the latter ones. All of the stories contained within are good, although some I really wish they had fleshed out into a full-fledged novel (which isn't necessarily a bad thing) like the one where you've got the biker and her kaiju girlfriend, and the evil rebel (who isn't really evil) and the suits of armor made of wood and wire she had inscribed her soul upon.
I'm also not really one for sci-fi all that much anymore. When I was a kid I was really into it. I owned all the Johnathan Swift novels, had an active subscription to Analog magazine, and had a library full of Jack L. Chalker books amongst other things. I don't know when or why I pivoted to urban fantasy as my main genre of choice, but I usually don't get much out of sci-fi. Unless, of course, we're talking giant mecha. Evangelion? Mobile Suit Gundam? Gurran Lagann? Yes, please! There's plenty of that here, for any giant mecha fan.
There's something intrinsically linked between transhumanism and queerness, especially when it comes to trans identities. The idea of becoming more than what your mortal flesh allows is such a trans experience that makes it easy to identify why slipping into a cockpit and becoming a bigger, stronger body appeals to us. Not all of these stories are trans stories, mind you, but since that's what I am, that's what I identify with.
All in all I'm glad that I backed this book on kickstarter. It's a really good read. Four stars.

I started watching Kamen Rider and Super Sentai this year and I feel like I picked a really good year, the current shows are fascinating.
Kamen Rider Geats had a really good set up as a battle royale style critique of capitalism and granting happiness to a few at the expense of many, all for the entertainment of the super rich who are disconnected from it. I don't think it stuck the ending - it simultaneously felt like it should have ended earlier, but also didn't have enough time to set up the final villain - but the ride was good.
Now there's Kamen Rider Gotchard which is alchemists collecting rogue power cards. Right now it looks like a cross between Full Metal Alchemist and Card Captor Sakura, which are not bad comparisons and I'm honour-bound to watch it as a Kamen Rider series which uses playing cards.
Then finally Ohsama Sentai King Ohger, aka Lord King Squad King Kinger, aka Sentai of Thrones, which has kinda stealthed itself into being one of my favourite things.
I think @cina-full-moon-xanadium has put it best:
But there's a lot of interesting stuff in here! I don't call it Sentai of Thrones solely for a joke, it's pitched at a young audience, but it does cover a lot of the messy elements of leadership: each member of the team is a king and they have conflicting goals for their countries; there is a plot where it's revealed that a villain killed an advisor to act as a double agent for the better part of a decade; rival brothers have fought over the right to their country's throne and a vassal-king from a different country has been trying to play them off against each other, only for it to be revealed that the vassal-kings sister was being held as hostage-fiancée by one of the brothers.
And now they have just wrapped up the forever war by making peace with the evil monsters, only for it to be revealed after a time skip that their entire conflict was brought about by a cruel and capricious god and it does all this while still being fun and silly. It's an amazingly well done balancing act that reminds me of Gurran Lagann, another of my favourite shows!
I may continue to jot down my thoughts here in between promoting my streams, sharing cat pictures for my mod, and reblogging whatever amuses me so... watch this space I guess?

what. is. your. opinion. on. robotics. ;. notes. ?.
If Chaos;Head NoAH is like "SciADV Evangelion", then Robotics;Notes is "SciADV Gurran Lagann".
R;N is confined by SciADV's hard sci-fi setting, but still manages to be a super robot story despite this through sheer force of will.
It's the little details, like how (right after being nabbed and brought to JAXA), Akiho reasons that you see this sort of thing in anime all the time, they've obviously been pulled in by the government to build a giant robot of justice!
And no sooner has Subaru called this Akiho's stupidest idea yet, does a representative of JAXA ask them, hey kids, wanna build a giant robot with JAXA's official support and funding?
It ties into series wide ideas that hopes and dreams and delusions can change reality. SciADV already works off goofy chuuni conspiracy theory lore, so chuuni characters (Ayase, Okabe, Akiho) are often able to call plot points in advance.
So what I'm trying to say is that Akiho can use Spiral Energy.

Gurran Lagann, Trigun, or the pokemon anime, it's been years so it's hard to be sure which on I watched first.
That post about death note being "everyone's first anime" (untrue statement) made me curious and now I want to gather data for science
Can you reblog this and tell me where are you from and what was your starter anime?

Are there any shows you would recommend to people who like rwby
I cant exactly give a good answer because Rwby despite how much shit I give it's writing doesn't really match any specific show I like. id say either JJK or chainsaw man (because.. I'm weeb trash) or an online show like murder drones. But honestly my choices aren't for everyone, because I view Rwby through a completely different lense. Meaning i cant exactly say that definitively these shows would be interesting to other Rwby fans.
Except one. Gurran lagann.

What exactly is bad animation?
Anime Ajay is one of my favorite YouTuber’s because his videos are extremely informative about the process of animation, what the anime industry is like, and helping to break down the differences between style, art, and actual bad work.
youtube
Criticizing animation isn’t bad, but if you’re going to criticize, then it’s important to get yourself educated.
For instance, don’t pause on in-between frames to say something is poorly animated. Think about when you’re trying to take a picture and someone goes to say something. The picture looks terrible. Their face is weird because you’ve got a still of someone with their mouth half open. It’s the same thing with animation. pausing on something that’s meant to serve as a bridge from one key frame to the next is going to look weird.
Definitely watch Ajay’s video. Be an informed anime fan, and whatever you do, please don’t tweet at animators when you think their work is poor. That’s a really terrible thing to do.
