Der Goldene Kreis auf Island

Der Goldene Kreis ist fast ein "Muss", wenn man eine Island Rundreise macht. Der Thingvellir Nationalpark, der Gulfoss Wasserfall und die Geysire gehören dazu.

Wir sind nun schon ein paar Tage im Süden Islands unterwegs. Der Goldene Kreis ist ein Muss für einen Island Roadtrip! Wie du sicher schon in meinem letzten Blogbeitrag gelesen hast, sind mein Mann Dirk und ich im Winter auf Island unterwegs. Der Januar war einer der kältesten seit vielen Jahren, mit Unmengen von Schnee. Davon ist nichts mehr zu sehen, da es in den letzten Wochen wiederum…

After finishing my Snowed In story and before returning to my Catch story, I took a little time away from writing and went to Iceland with my 12 year old son. I told a few people I would post pictures of our trip. So here you go (this is part 2):

Snorkeling in 34 degree glacial run off waters in the Silfra Fissure. The European tectonic plate is on the left and the North American tectonic plate is on the right. This is the only place in the world that you can go in between two tectonic plates like this. Very cool.

We did an amazing 7 step ritual here with a hot spring, cold pool, sauna, rain room, full body scrub, steam room, cool shower, and then back to the hot spring. My skin felt AMAZING afterward.

And then we flew home and I reread my Catch of a Lifetime story on the plane, so I could starting writing for it again! Ha!

Such an amazing trip. We LOVED it.

Heute ging es, nachdem ich mich ohne irgendwo aufzulegen aus meinem wunderschönen aber hügeligen Stellplatz manövriert hatte, ziemlich früh auf die Fähre. Stimmungsvoll habe ich die westmännerinseln hinter mir gelassen - der Weg hat sich auf jeden Fall gelohnt. Da es ab morgen zwei Tage eher regnen soll, habe ich heute eine ganze Menge gemacht. Es ging ins Landeskunde auf den goldenen Zirkel und damit auch ein bisschen mehr rein in die Massen. Schön war's trotzdem. Am Hjálparfoss ging es noch sehr entspannt zu, und auch der Weg war heute ganz oft fotowürdig:-) Es ging durch riesige Lavafelder, in deren Hintergrund schon wieder schneebedeckte Berge den Horizont darstellten. Der Gulfoss war dann mehr als beeindruckend, sowohl durch seine Gewaltigkeit, als auch die hochprofessionelle touristische Nutzung dessen. Weiter ging es zum Strokkur, der zwar nicht mit den Geysiren Neuseelands mithalten kann, aber dafür alles gegeben hat. Übernachtet wird heute in Borg, ich glaube, ich bin die einzige Touristin und ansonsten feiern hier heute alle sehr gediegen ihren Nationalfeiertag. Ganze 6,50 Euro wollte der Betreiber des Campingplatzes von mir. Er war der Meinung, wenn man alleine reist, muss man auch nur die Hälfte zahlen, da die Preise immer zwei Personen beinhalten. Sehr sympathisch:-)

Hoewel ik reeds meerdere watervallen hebben mogen aanschouwen, waaronder de Niagara Falls, vond ik deze te Gulfoss tot nu toe de meest adembenemende! Kleine anekdote: Ijslanders noemen de voetweg naar beneden (zichtbaar links op foto 1 & rechts op foto 2) vals plat. Eighth Blog

This is Jan Gulfoss’s piece Tigre et ampoule, part of his solo show Un onde plus silencieux showcased in the heart of Saint Tropez by Echo Fine Arts. This archival pigment print on Hahnemuhle paper was made in 2013-2016 and measured at 43 ¼ by 53 ⅛ inches. In the piece a monochromatic tiger is seen walking towards the audience but yet face away. The background of the piece is covered with drops of water and a photo that implies a forest yet the ground clearly tells there is no forest. The piece gives off a feeling of sadness when seeing the piece from the tiger’s point of view. My first look of the piece was more intense as I only saw the animal, a tiger known for its strength and animalistic features. However, when taking a step back and looking around the piece, it is more sad than empowering. It is as if the tiger was taken out from its home and yet it reminisces about where it truly belongs. It makes me think if humans are doing the right thing by taking animals out of their habitat as a way to save them. This inspires me to work with not just one photo but instead layers of photos as each layer leaves a message and works together as a whole.

My final day on Iceland's Ring Road

I leave Gulfoss waterfall, and wonder how I can fill the time on my final day until I fly out of domestic Reykjavík airport this evening. I decide on just driving out to the Rekjanes Peninsula and see what stumble upon. No more than ten minutes later, I find myself back at the Geysir area that I had explored the prior day. I had no idea Gulfoss was so close by, but with it being a rainy and cold…
