Getting a bit worried over here, I’m not seeing enough pages left for this to have a very happy ending
But also “Good luck to you” was a damn brilliant line hell yeah
“If the bread hadn’t burned, this would be a very different story”

❗️TWO MORE WEEKS until the 1st ever fanworks week for “The Familiar” by Leigh Bardugo ❗️
DAILY PROMPTS: (for fanfic, headcanons, fanart, moodboards, memes, playlists...)
🧿 DAY 1, JULY 15 – Refranes -> These traditional Sephardic Jewish sayings act like spells for Luzia's magic. Which ones from the book stand out to you? Are there any other good ones that the book missed out on mentioning?
✨ DAY 2, JULY 16 – Fairytale -> This book has many fairytale-like elements. Santángel is a former prince under a curse. Luzia is a witch who starts off as a scullion maid like Cinderella. Make up whatever fairytale AU or fusion you wish. (Yes, even mermaids. Go wild.)
💕 DAY 3, JULY 17 – Family -> Show us more of Luzia's relationships with her parents and aunt Hualit. Maybe down the line she starts a family with Santángel. Or tell us about the house of De Paredes, Casa Ordoño, etc.
🎶 DAY 4, JULY 18 – "Now sing for me." -> A quote from the tail end of one of Santángel's speeches to the witch. Music and magic are pretty connected in this book, show us how.
🦂 DAY 5, JULY 19 – Bargain -> Many characters are willing to bargain (magically or not) for the chance at a better or more successful life. Delve into that.
🪡 DAY 6, JULY 20 – Clothing -> Mid-to-late 1500s Spain had some pretty famous fashion designs, whether in the royal courts or in medieval Sephardic Jewish dress. Show us your favorite characters in some period clothes.
🌸 DAY 7, JULY 21 – Pomegranates & Oranges & Almond Blossoms -> 3 trees that are recurring themes throughout the book, and also happen to be very pretty and symbolic.

Relationships: Luzia Cotado/Guillén Santángel
Additional Tags: Inspired by Tangled (2010), Tangled (2010) References, AND WHAT ABOUT IT please tell me I'm not the only one who saw this, Fairy Tale Elements, Hurt/Comfort Summary:
Once, in La Casilla sometime after the second trial, Luzia had told Santángel the surname of her true family -- her mishpacha. “For the record,” he’d said, “I like Luzia Cana Cotado more than Calderón Cotado.”
Luzia had just shook her head, all her loose hair waving around her shoulders. “You’d be the first, but thank you.”

So close to the end now
Valentina has very slowly grown on me and I’ve been kind of waiting for Quiteria Escárega to become a more important character since the very beginning, I’m quite happy they’ve found each other but also up until this point I still wasn’t entirely convinced of who between Luzia and Valentina was going to survive and now I’m pretty sure I know
“If the bread hadn’t burned, this would be a very different story”
Folks I am already HOOKED
