what about reader being stressed and feeling really bad due the amount of blood and how wild the murder happened in a mission and hotch comforts her?? i really love your work and i hope you write but of course it's okay if you are not comfortable with it!! though i crave some hurt/comfort right now 🥹 take care, we love you 🫶🏻🫶🏻
ty for requesting, i love u! fem!reader
You're used to depravity, but the body cannot truly desensitise itself from carnage. You shouldn't know the inside of a person like that, shouldn't be able to pinpoint gore with the accuracy of a mortician. You feel sick knowing what was supposed to be where. Enough blood to kick down the door and have it flood the hallway, stain your shoes with a permanent rust.
You turn away from the scene, sirens and shouting white noise, and leave blood footsteps like a breadcrumb trail down the paving stones, huge slabs of white grey printed by wet soles. You're just past the red flash of the ambulances when you freeze, your legs won't carry you. You've no choice but to sit down hard in the road.
There's just blood everywhere. No metaphor to soften the blow, no explanation. There was blood everywhere in the crime scene and it took less than ten minutes inside of it to be plastered with it too.
Blood and cold floor. The road is cold, maybe wet, seeping into your trousers. You put your hand down and feel the dirty bite of it pressing into your palm.
Considering his duties, Hotch finds you quickly. You'd know him from presence alone, but hiding hand is familiar on your back. He crouches down behind you.
"What's wrong?" he asks, second hand curling around your shirt. "You can't sit here. Can I help you up?"
You manage to get to your feet by yourself. Hotch walks you to a car like you're injured, leaning you against the hood. "What's wrong?" he asks.
You shake your head. This isn't some slasher flick where the blood is sugar syrup and everyone goes home, this is your life, that was somebody's life, and to be killed in such a violent way… nobody deserves that. Your arms twist around your stomach as your stomach twists into itself, churning.
Hotch watches you severely. Anyone might think he was pissed with your behaviour, but he isn't like that. He's probably pissed he can't immediately fix the problem, arms crossed against his chest, the font of his SWAT vest glaringly white. He's neat and official as always, but there's blood on his shoes.
You try to talk and it's like your lips are gummed shut, a hum with nothing intelligible as you lean forward.
Hotch gives in. He breathes out, the barest ghost of his cologne distracting you from the smell of rust as he wraps his arms around your shoulders. You curl your fingers into the strap of his vest, quick to press your face into his side, wherever you can that's softest.
"I know," he says quietly, his arms tightening around you. The slide of his sleeves against your shirt, the sound that it makes, feels loud as a bell.
You hadn't realised you were shaking. Hotch tries to wring it out of you one steady stroke of his hand at a time. You can imagine his viewpoint, your feeble position on the car and the white washed crime scene behind you. They'll be setting up the flood lights and taking photographs soon enough, no bodies to lay to rest, only gore to wash away.
"I didn't think we could save them," you confess into his shirt, ashamed.
When he replies, it's measured, as though he's thought about his response carefully in little time. "That's realistic. This case has been… heavy from the beginning."
Heavy isn't the word he would usually choose. He's talking to you, he knows exactly how you're feeling because he knows you well, and cares about you more, if his cheek pressed to your temple is anything to go off of. "I have to go coordinate," he says, his thumb rubbing with pressure into your shoulder blade, "I'm sorry. I'll get Reid to come sit with you in the SUV… Y/N, listen to me…" Hotch leans back, meeting your eyes. "There was nothing more we could do. I'm confident that you performed to the best of your ability. This outcome– this isn't what anyone wanted, and I'm sorry we couldn't fix it this time."
"I just don't get how you can do that to another person," you say. Why you'd want to. You're a profiler, and you know a wealth of information about what makes certain people act as they do, but you still can't empathise with the killer. It's too much; it's beyond explanation.
"That's a good thing." His hands squeeze the tops of your arms. "It is."
You look down at his shirt collar, thinking you probably don't deserve his comforting. This is your job, and tonight you couldn't do it. "Sorry I– I freaked out. I shouldn't have walked away."
"That's a good thing, too, in a way."
He offers you a small smile. You can't smile back, but Hotch doesn't mind, his hands falling down the lengths of your arms. His fingers tangle momentarily with yours.
Reid comes around to sit with you when Hotch leaves. He probably wouldn't have needed telling, your friend's hand curling over your shoulder protectively.
"You okay?" he asks.
You watch Hotch lead his jurisdiction of operations. Things aren't okay, you're far from it, but you trust that it'll get better with Hotch at the helm. Still, a bitter taste lingers.
"They won't be," you say, nodding to the crowd of people behind the rapidly erected barricade. At the very front is someone's mom.
"Not for a while." Spencer tries to lighten the mood, throwing you a life jacket. "You're his favourite, you know?"
You recall the subtle strength of Hotch's arms around you, the lean length of his torso and the warmth of his breath as he'd spoken in your ear. Without trying for it, your pulse calms. Your despair dulls to an ache.
"You think so?" you ask.
Hotch looks in your direction, checking on you. Spencer nods. "Definitely." He has a list of interrelated BAU statistics to prove it.

dbda fic request- the boys meet death after becoming the lost and founds freelancers and find out they're her favorite coworkers even if they're just now meeting 💕 thank you!
Hi! I love this idea, it's so sweet and I loved writing it! I hope you enjoy what I came up with for it!
Charles and Edwin have been officially sanctioned as an extension of the Lost and Found Department for around six months. Things had been going well, they were on top of cases, Crystal had been helping Niko with the paperwork for the Night Nurse whenever she wasn't needed on cases.
It was good.
As it so happened, they had just successfully finished up another case. Getting the ghost of a particularly dextrous and determined octopus out of the London Aquarium. In the end, it had been fairly happy to be taken to the end of the Thames that fed into the ocean. They had managed to help the ghost of the aquarium worker who brought the case to them move on while they were at it.
Everyone happy. Job officially jobbed.
"That one felt good, didn't it, mate?" Charles grinned as he looked to the side, at Edwin, hands triumphantly placed on his hips.
"It certainly was rewarding, I must agree." Edwin replied, his own small smile pulling at the corner of his lips. "Though admittedly I could have done without the octopus trying to eat my notebook."
The highly put upon way that he said those words had Charles breaking into a short but full-bodied laugh as he clapped Edwin on the shoulder.
"Bloody hell, I don't think I'll ever forget that look on your face." Charles wheezed and pretended to wipe a tear from his eye.
"Please. There is no need for such theatrics." Edwin rolled his eyes, all in good humour. "It was worth it in the end."
Charles took a breath and straightened up, still smiling broadly as he looked out at the edge of the river. "Always is, isn't it?"
"Right you are. I would not change this for anything."
"Me neither."
They stood together for a while, side by side. The sun was setting just over the horizon, though it would soon disappear beyond a line of flats and skyscrapers. There was a tinge of orange and pink melting into the pale blue that peeked out from between clouds.
The wind gently moved the branches of the few potted trees that grew from between grey paving slabs.
Briefly, they both thought about the past, about life and about afterlife, about how a breeze like that once felt against their skin. What would it be like now, to close their eyes and lean into the wind and feel it in their hair?
It didn't really matter in the end.
Nothing beat the feeling of freedom that came from simply being as they were, side by side, solving cases, helping people. They had Crystal and Niko, and the Night Nurse, maybe even more people than that if they went outside of the agency. Most importantly though, they had each other. They always would.
They were about to consider heading away to look for a mirror to get back to the agency, when something made them pause. A presence seemed to appear behind them under the weighted sound of swooping wings.
A warmth spread over them, like the sun warming their backs through layers of clothing.
Perhaps there could have been a spike of anxiety when they both realised in quick succession, that the presence was of Death herself; Death Of The Endless.
"Good evening, Detectives." she greeted, voice warm and comforting.
Slowly, they both turned to greet her in turn.
"It is, rather." Edwin agreed, much more calmly than he would have ever anticipated himself capable of under such circumstances.
"Can we help you?" Charles asked, a little nervous, a little in awe.
"You have been helping me a great deal already." she smiled with more kindness than either of them had seen from a stranger in either of their lifetimes.
But then, she wasn't really a stranger, was she? No. She was more like an old friend, if either of them truly thought about it.
"Actually, that's part of why I'm here." she continued. "Your probationary period is over. It was more of a formality than anything, but I thought it'd be nice to come and tell you myself," she smiled, obviously just having come from gathering their Aquarium worker. "Congratulations and welcome to the Afterlife Department."
"...probationary period?" Edwin echoed in mild confusion. He hadn't been aware of any such thing.
"As I said, detective. Just a formality. I've been watching the two of you for a very long time. I admire you, actually."
"Hang on a tick. You... admire us?" Charles frowned a bit, in confusion. He had never expected their first conversation with Death to go quite in this direction.
"How could I not?" she replied. "You two are my favourites. You help lost souls, solve cases that no one else can solve. So many of those people would have wondered forever if not for your help. I couldn't be prouder to have you officially on board."
"So... You will not force us to move on? You won't be separating us?" Edwin questioned, undeniably afraid of the answer.
"Of course not." she almost laughed. "Much of the afterlife is left a mystery even for Afterlife employees, and so I can't say much, but I don't think either of you would consider anything but this, to be an ideal eternity." she gave them both a look that told them she knew it to be true, with absolute certainty.
"I..." Edwin had a burning question, but he wasn't sure he could ask it.
She understood him anyway.
"You're not going back to Hell, Edwin. You never should have been there in the first place. Besides, I think you've more than earned the afterlife you deserve." It was the one that he already had.
Edwin could have wept with the relief (and truthfully, so could Charles).
"Mate!" Charles exclaimed. "That's brills! That means you and me can stay together, yeah? Carry on doing what we do best." he beamed so brightly and with so much joy that it was almost like looking at the sun.
And how could Edwin not match his enthusiasm? He beamed right back, like the moon reflecting that same light.
Neither of the boys could quite put their finger on what compelled them to hug Death in that moment. Perhaps it had been the relief, or the joy, or the safety of it. Perhaps it was all of those things.
And, perhaps they had always been embracing death, from the moment they stepped into each other's lives.
This time though, Death embraced them back, and it felt like home. It felt like protection.
It was that devotion and love that endeared them so much to Death. She couldn't help but root for them to succeed. They understood better than most, that death was a part of life, just as much as the living.
They really were her favourite coworkers.

Arrival
1,186 words | Mirai and the serpent king (sequel to Apprehension)
Content | Slavery, fear, dehumanisation, implied future noncon
Notes | Mirai arrives at the serpent king's palace, and prepares to meet his potential new master!
Taglist | @yet-another-heathen @echo-goes-aaa @whumpinator
The palace appeared out of the greenery, all lattices and domes and carved decor, all rather too beautiful to belong to a dumb beast. Maybe the king would care about the singing, after all; Mirai felt a sting of fear and humiliation both at the thought. Soon they passed through an elegant archway, under the watchful eyes of more guards, and after that, the road was paved with slabs of some smoothly dark grey stone, grooves carved into it in elaborate patterns.
The outer parts of the palace were quite open, one arch next to another looking into rooms and corridors alike. They were brought into one such airy room, where a snake man behind a desk took note of their precence on a large scroll, looking like they were the most exciting thing to happen today, sent off what appeared to be a messenger into the deeper parts of the palace, and instructed them to wait.
There was a marble bench at the inner side of the room, opposite the windows, and the slavers took their seat. Mirai didn’t need instruction to kneel on the floor instead. The grooves still present here dug into his knees.
The slaver holding him yanked on his chain hard enough to momentarily steal his breath. »Over here, we’ve got to do something about your hair.«
Mirai obediently turned to present the back of his head, blinking back the tears from the shock of the pull; he would never be able to handle that. Immediately, he had to wonder whether the serpent king enjoyed this sort of thing. Many snakes liked to strangle their prey, didn’t they?
He bit his cheek trying to push the thought out of his head. It didn’t matter; he couldn’t change a thing about what was to come.
He always did his best to maintain his hair himself, limited as he was to his bare hands, because he knew the slavers wouldn’t be gentle when it came to doing him up for the market. He squeezed his mouth shut against the comb ripping at what tangles he hadn’t been able to get rid of, and tried to let the slaver’s swearing at him about what a nuisance he and his hair was, as if he chose to keep it as long as it was, pass over him.
It took too long for the slavers not to get bored. One of the others leaned in. »You know, they say no one leaves the snake king’s harem. ‘Cause he eats the slaves he grows tired of.«
He was kneeling on the floor that had by now become outright painful, terrified over his future whichever way it might play out, and that was what finally pushed the tears into spilling over. He heard the slavers snicker as he hugged himself, trying to get a hold on himself.
One of them slapped the back of his head. »Get a grip. The king won’t want you all puffy.«
»Get out of that,« the one doing him up said, ignoring their companion.
Mirai pulled his tunic off; if ever he had been able to afford shame, it was long gone by now, and his only worry was what his naked form might entice any observers to do to him.
»And clean yourself up while you’re at it.«
He wiped the dirt off his bare feet, knowing full well he’d have to put this same tunic back on if he failed to sell. He rubbed what travelling grime he could off himself; it was a far cry from being truly clean, but it was all he could do now. The slaver grabbed him by the back of his neck and rubbed rose water behind his ears and under his jaw.
Then he was tossed his nice, clean, white market tunic. It was shorter than the travelling one, barely reaching his mid-thigh. At least the air was warm; the slavers had already shed their overgarments in the humid heat, although they weren’t quite as exposed as he, and complained to one another, quietly, clearly still unwilling to offend the guards or even the secretary.
»And don’t say a word, you hear me?«
Mirai nodded, eyes cast down. It went without saying, really, even though most potential buyers ended up insisting on hearing his voice before buying anyway—or rather, not buying, usually.
Then they waited.
The slavers, grumpily, dug into their travelling rations when midday was gone long enough to expunge any hope they would be offered refreshments. Mirai got nothing: it wasn’t like he would lose weight quickly enough now to influence the sale. After walking all morning, he was aching for even a a little snack, but he had to be grateful to be offered water alone.
Despite his discomfort, he was grateful for every moment he didn’t have to face the reality of being offered up to the serpent king; and he was so exhausted he dozed off where he knelt despite his fear. Not enough to fully lose track of his surroundings, of course, that was not a luxury he could allow himself, but enough to quiet the ache in his knees and heart.
He started fully awake when one of a pair of guards approached them, ordering the group to follow them. It must have been hours, and he felt like his knees would burst when he got up. The floor had pressed vivid pink patterns into his skin, but it couldn’t be helped now.
His heartrate picked up as they moved through wide corridors, decorated with elaborately woven tapestries. This was it. He was going to be sold to the serpent king, a monster by all accounts, or rejected and punished, but now, between the guard’s slithering bodies so very capable of crushing him, one fear was far more real than the other. They were so big, and just imagining their king’s proportions made it hard to hold back tears.
Maybe, as a member of the harem, at least only the king would have access to him, and the existence of a harem meant he wouldn't have to satisfy him alone. But then, maybe he liked to share? Maybe he liked to reward loyal guards, like the ones that eyed him curiously as they passed through the corridors?
His head was spinning with terror and what straws of hope he could cling to when they entered the throne room.
It was big in every direction, slender columns carrying a high, domed ceiling inlaid with geometrical patterns. Across from the large double doors was a dais a few steps high, with a oval-shaped cushioned seat, its curved back intricately carved, upon which the serpent king lounged. The scales covering the loops of his body were of a deep earthy brown, and he wore nothing but golden jewellery hanging over his chest and looping around his arms, and, of course, a crown.
The look of his golden eyes felt like it would pierce right through Mirai, and he had to force his knees not to buckle in terror as they were walked up to the center of the room.

Fallen London Travel Guide:
Xibalba
Stepped temple complexes in grey and weathered limestone rise from the ice. Stucco facades depict bulbous scenes, made indistinct by time and moss. Monoliths hewn from darker mineral, black like starlight, dot the landscape, and causeways – paved with flat slabs of blueish rock mined from the Neath itself – criss-cross the wastes.

Limestone is one of the oldest stones that has been used in architecture over centuries and is as popular today as it was back then.
