end of summer seoul trip - day 2.

after a good night sleep, it’s time for more fun stuff! went to grevin museum seoul quickly to pick up the jks calendar set 2017 (lol) and then met with friends at hongdae to depart to express bus terminal station. changed a couple trains and end up in an unfamiliar territory hehe.. it’s kinda exciting to go new places~

our destination is devil’s door brewery, which is a really really unique restaurant/brewery. the design uses a lot bricks, metal, rust, wood, etc to create the steampunk factory/brewery kinda feel and the high ceiling is totally awesome with the natural lighting. i like how they decorate the entrance with skulls and a huge floor mirror, haha... and the washroom is super unique too. i’m in love with the ambiance and interior design, could totally hang out here often if i live in seoul.

we ordered quite a number of food to share, devil’s fried chicken, spinach artichoke dip, mushroom risotto, tomato & mozzarella pasta, bacon pizza, beer sampler which has three mini beers - pale ale, ipa and stout, and coffee beer. the beer are brewed there, and the taste is pretty good! and the coffee beer is super nice with just a hint of sweetness and the coffee is fragrant. food is pretty nice, fried chicken is very crispy, ehehe.. i love the artichoke dip a lot. spent quite some time here just eating and chatting and taking photos..

after such an awesome meal, we then head to blue square for jks photo exhibition 2017. this is a yearly event during his birthday month to raise fund for charities, this is my first time visiting though. due to the huge amount of eels, we need to take a number and wait for our turn to go into the exhibition, while waiting, we visited the cafe nearby and also the super nice bookpark which has bookshelf which is a few stories tall. it’s just so amazing. the interior design of bookpark is very calming, peaceful and comfortable with a lot of space for people to sit down and read. totally love how they build their shelves and arrange the whole space.

we then queued up for about two hours for a lucky draw to be able to watch the official opening ceremony of the photo exhibition and see jks delivering his speech on the next day. i was lucky to be one of the 150 eels who get this privilege. =) the ceremony is simple, and soon after, people start going in to visit the exhibition. we stayed for about an hour or so, this exhibition has fan submitted photos, artwork and handicraft of jang keun suk and the entrance fees collected will be donated to charity. it’s such a nice thing that jks official fan club organize for his eels.

after the exhibition, it’s time for dinner... we were all so hungry! wanted to visit a restaurant which specialize in eel dish but the place was super packed, so we randomly chose a korean restaurant 밀크포차 and ordered some yummy korean dishes - pancake, fish cake soup, stir fried octopus, and rolled omelette. the food was really yummy and i totally love korean food (only in korea though).

super exhausted by the time i reach the hotel, mostly due to the queuing under the sun as the temperature was hot during day time. excited for the next day as my lovely travel mate will be arriving, ehehe..

The last museum I’ll be creating a post about is the ‘Grevin Museum‘.

Grevin Museum has over 130 years of history in it from its foundation back in 1882 in Paris with the collaboration of Arthur Meyer and Alfred Grevin.

From then till now the museum has given visitors a chance to meet famous personalities from all over the world based on the spirit of its founders, producing and exhibiting over 2,000 wax figures right from its opening until today.

Right after celebrating its 130th anniversary in 2012, the museum began expanding globally, opening a branch in Montreal in 2013, in Prague in 2014, and finally in Seoul in 2015.

Today, we will learn more about Grevin Museum which I visited back in 2017.

Navigating through the museum:

1st Floor

Of course, has the entrance, the shop where you can buy original artists’ goods and also the awesome elevator that will transport you through time to meet the most iconic personalities!

2nd Floor

You can enjoy the remarkable party with worldwide stars! Meet celebrities who became icons of beauty, fashion, film, K-Pop, music and more!

3rd Floor

There’s the very realistic presidential aircraft that will take you to the flight of a lifetime! Meet leaders of the world and also play an aircraft landing game once you reach the cockpit. There are also sports champions and amazing artists along with their masterpieces. You’ll also get to experience how wax figures are first made and conceptualized digitally.

4th Floor

You get to walk the red carpet and meet the most popular Hallyu stars, historical figures of Korea, most influential inventors, creators and peace leaders beyond time and space!

Interactive Games

What I’ve also actually enjoyed a lot about Grevin Museum are the interactive games they’ve prepared for their visitors like playing casino roulette with Brad Pitt and the George Clooney, a game of basketball with Michael Jordan or baseball, wax figure making, a quiz game with Einstein and Steve Jobs, airplane landing simulator, pop art making, facial editing game, and a music quiz game with John Lennon!

I may not be able to put up pictures of the games here, but that’s because I’ve enjoyed them to the point I totally forgot to ask for my pictures to be taken. Haha.

Alright. So, there you have it! These are the information I can relay to you guys based on my visit there and also on their website.

The feeling of being there is like actually meeting the real stars, just that they aren’t moving. Still, seeing these wax figures made me feel like I’ve seen those icons up close without needing to pay much and the fact that most of them were born in a different generation, it feels good that this kind of place can bring me closer to them.

Anyway, you should visit Grevin Museum and enjoy the fun-filled adventure of navigating through four floors filled with amazing personalities. 🙂

I'm going to Seoul but whilst I'm out there I'd like to go to Jeju and maybe like Busan or Gwangju!! Any recommendations im Seoul or anywhere else?? Any tips for Korea in January??

oof i have PLENTY of suggestions. i would highly recommend going to the Grevin Museum if you get a chance - it’s like Madame Tussauds, and i always have such a trippy experience when i’m there lmao. there’s also loads of markets you can visit, but they’re always quite crowded. markets like Hongdae and - of course - Myeongdong (more of a shopping complex than a market but you shop there so ah well). there’s also Lotte World, which is just incredible. 10/10. and sometimes there will be buskers at night that are really pleasant to go and listen to if you have the chance.

any tips?? i haven’t been to Seoul in quite a bit, but i guess just be respectful?? respect is a big thing over there, even between strangers. don’t let that scare you, though, because although respect is a big thing, people in Korea also don’t tend to be as social with strangers. like, you won’t get someone coming up to you for a chat just for the sake of having a chat. they tend to keep to their own business most of the time.

really just have fun!! there’s plenty to do, and plenty to see, and it’s one of them cities that is just never quiet. even at night, there’s lights on and the streets are always full of people, and it’s just a very, very beautiful place. i’m sure you’ll have a wonderful time there.
