GREENWOOD IS OFFICIALLY OUT!!
Follow this story about the healing of a rogue mercenary, who is on the run from his past life. On his way, he crosses paths with unlikely allies. On his way through a town, he learns of the local forest that has been marked as dangerous due to a vengeful entity. Not only does he have to get past whoever that is, but he also has to watch out for anything trying to drag him back to his former life as a mercenary.
After a month of development, Greenwood has been released on itch.io! This was actually a project done for my game design class, so it had to be completed within a one month time constraint. Therefore, this game isn’t super long and its multiple routes were cut off. Despite that, this game still has 200+ sprites and is also 20k words long. The game takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes to complete!
This was my first attempt at a visual novel and so any feedback or comments would be greatly appreciated! Literally any and all feedback would be wonderful so please let me know how you feel about this project! Also I’m not that great at coding so the game might have bugs....and for that I’m sorry!
You can find it on itch.io by searching ‘Greenwood’ or ‘Amarenth’ on the site!!
(please rb to help me get people to play this game. I’d greatly appreciate it! If you could, please send me some positive feedback!!)

Can you tell us more about your game? I saw that it's a visual novel! Is it finished? :3
nope, but my world building is mostly finished. i do have two released versions, a download (versions for mac and windows in the link) and a playable brower version if you cant download. i made it in a month for my game design class, so the story is really condensed and rushed and i hate how it flows.....it can basically be called a Game Jam Game (games that are made within a short period of time)
so basically im rewriting it so i can include the things i wished to include. more scenes between haru, the main character, and his companions, lupin and evren. i want them to have a reasonable time for their relationships to grow and develop.
the actual plot of greenwood: amaranthus (focuses on haru, but i plan on having individual games to expand on lupin, evren, and nacht. more on nacht later) is about haru running away from his life as a mercenary and trying to get away from his ex partner. he then meets evren, a merchant, who is willing to help him escape. plot points happen, and they meet a druid named lupin, who's actually evren's friend.
throughout the game it's obvious haru doesnt trust either of them because of his past experiences with his former mercenary company as well as his ex partner. however, he LEARNS to trust them and he slowly allows himself to get close to them, which is a healing process in itself. the whole point of the story is about haru learning to become vulnerable again and to allow himself to be loved.
i use haru as a wishful projection of how i want my own healing to be like. cause his ex partner, nacht, is based off of one of my toxic ex boyfriends. (ive mentioned him on here before in some of my vent posts but whatever) i've still got major trust issues because of him, and so haru's endgame is what i wish for myself.
oh also major lore points for my game have to do with animal curses. the curse can make you stronger physically and such, but if you cant learn how to live with it, you lose your humanity. basically. im trying to write an allegory for mental health issues. haru is a....cat. yeah he's a catboy call me cringe or whatever but he was cursed and he learned to live with it.
there are other characters that are also cursed but they DONT deal with the curse well, and so they become unstable and self destructive. it really all depends on how you learn to work and adapt with the curse.
the whole point to my games is the message that you can heal and learn to work through things. that there's always a way to get better. and some of the supporting characters i have are representative of people who arent able to let go of their toxic traits or worst habits and they never get better because of it.
