I really think we as a society don't give enough credit to performers who thrive in an ensemble situation. It's always obvious when an actor is excellent front and center, and we're constantly rewarding that skill set with awards, but god, there's something to be said for the power of a true ensemble piece. People who are so good at reading one another and playing off what they're given, tossing the ball and knowing when to turn it into a grenade. As much fun as it is to watch a solid monologue or a solo show, I always find it so much more thrilling--and so much more authentically lived-in--when there's an ensemble just feeding one another in every single scene. Who do I look at? What is everyone else learning and deciding even from the background? This is what life looks like, and actors who really shine in that environment have really become my favorite to follow.

Just got back from watching episode 1 and 2 of The Acolyte, and I am VERY HAPPY to report that they were amazingggg!!!!!

This is an incredibly strong start to the show and we are in for a TREAT omg! Like seriously, if you weren't excited yet... GET EXCITED!!! Here are some of my spoiler-free thoughts:

- first of all, seeing The High Republic leap from the page to the screen is nothing short of amazing and had me smiling. I don't want to spoil anything for anyone, so that's all for now.

- I don't want to say too much about the plot, so I won't, but I think this is a very nice idea!!!!! And so far, executed very well!!!

- the characters... I am already obsessed and have favorites! Sol, Yord, and Jecki are really amazing, and I already love their dynamic!

- not sure if this was the case because I saw it on the big screen, but this show has a very cinematic feel to it, something that I found lacking from some of the latest Star Wars live-action shows. I think this is also helped tremendously by the world building and all the characters roaming around. SO MANY ALIENS AND CREATURES 🤩 Not sure if they used the Volume for this show, but I don't think they did. And like Andor, you can tell, it's so good! I think the Volume can still deliver nice visuals but in small doses...

- the pacing of the story is really well done too. It puts you in the middle of the action and the story from the get-go and really did not slow down for these first two episodes. Again, something other Star Wars live-action shows have struggled with in the past. Let's see how the season progresses, but so far, so good!

- lastly, fight choreography... I thought it was soooo cool!!!! To see the Jedi rely on their hand-to-hand combat so much was awesome! I love me some lightsaber action, but this was so well executed, I loved seeing it. Really cool idea and excited for all the other upcoming fights in the show!

So yeah, I am very VERY HAPPY about the show and cannot wait for the rest of the episodes! It's going to be a fun couple of weeks ahead!

You learn something new every day. For example, today I learned that when it comes to my tastes, Stephen Schwartz is very hit-or-miss... and Pippin's a miss. Don't get me wrong! The performances were all great. That skinny girl they got to play Fastrada? Hella flexible! But... was the point of the play that I'm supposed to hate the titular character? Because I do!

And you don't end Act I of a play by killing off a king and then just undo it within the first ten minutes of Act II! Who does that?!

Last night, at the Boston opening night for The Empire Strips Back (Star Wars burlesque, naturally), I took a moment to look around, trying to remember if I'd been in this theater before.

Then it hits me: the last time I was in the Huntington Theater, Carrie Fisher was doing her one-woman show, Wishful Drinking. At a key point in the show, she goes into a monologue about an actor's dignity and fandom and that's when the Princess Leia blow-up doll comes down from the ceiling.

So now, there's nothing for it, except to swear a vow that I shall never enter the Huntington Theater unless the performance contains both sex and Star Wars.

okay, so my brain has been dragging me into the realm of crossover aus and im just having myself a time imagine the aftermath of Element right. but from Mika's point of view. and there's kyubeys because everyone in enstars is mentally ill. and now imagine mika being approached by a kyubey. only bad things will happen.

And that's precisely what I'm here to write about! I am so sorry ValkyriePs and OddballsPs. Oh and NatsumePs specifically. And maybe NazunaPs. Who knows?
