With how Tristamp sets up major plot points in advance with the characters that they name drop or have appear and interact with and learn more about other characters throughout the series no matter how short their screen time was or how small their role to play at the time was, I think that Meryl along with Milly might be a bit more involved in the fight against Gray the Ninelives who really only fought against Wolfwood in Trimax.
Tumblr media
Like yeah the girls show up but it's really only at the end and as comedic relief they literally just fall on top of them and knock them out, signalling that the fight's really over now. But like just look at how hyped they looked to fight, guns out and all.
Tumblr media
But in Tristamp not only has Meryl gotten to meet and get to know some of Ship 3’s residents, becoming especially invested in Luida’s project in growing enough flora to terraform No Man’s Land into a green planet to lessen the burden on the Plants and ensure the survival of both species, making her more than willing and ready to fight for them given the chance,
Tumblr media
but also she’s seen Gray as the both the mech suit in Ep3,
Tumblr media
and as the nine people who control it in Ep10,
Tumblr media
with her having seen and gotten to know more about them thanks to Conrad possibly setting up that she might actually be the way Wolfwood figures out that Gray is just a giant mech suit being piloted by nine people. And then they could work together to take them down.
Tumblr media
Which would be pretty cool to see, maybe they could take three each, given that there aren’t a lot of instances that I can recall at least where Wolfwood fights alongside the girls, plus it’d make for good team building with Milly having just joined the gang. Also, after rewatching episode 4, specifically where right before Roberto’s taken by Zazie Wolfwood makes fun of Roberto’s derringer, it just ignited a want, a need really to see Wolfwood have his ass saved at least once by said derringer.
Tumblr media
Speaking of which, there have also been multiple instances where allusions to David and Goliath were made in relation to Meryl in Trimax, notably in the few panels that show bits and pieces of her backstory that show how she got her first derringer, which Studio Orange expanded upon with Roberto, that lead me to believe this to be the case even more.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
On top of that, I think that she might be reason for why they're simply going to have them locked up and not killed (wonder if seven of them are still going to be killed during the fight in S2) even after the damage they've dealt and the deaths they've caused seeing as she reacted with horror and pity when she learned about them from Conrad,
Tumblr media Tumblr media
a sentiment Roberto himself doubled down on,
Tumblr media Tumblr media
which while it might have enraged Elendira and sent her to come after them with her nails, leading to Roberto's death, and possibly souring Meryl's feelings about her, the same can't be said for Gray. @tristampparty

I just saw something in one of Trigun Stampede's reference sheets and I'm going to talk about it under the cut because it's pretty disturbing and it may count as a spoiler to the series (post-JuLai).
If you've read the manga, you would know that Gray the Ninelives is a robotic suit controlled by nine men of short stature. It's a bit different in Stampede because instead of grown men, the ones controlling Gray the Ninelives turns out to be the lab-grown clones that Conrad showed to Meryl and Roberto.

They're Gray the Ninelives.

The Gung-Ho-Gun’s are all just Dr Conrad’s OCs. It’s why he has the chronic need to correct people whenever they get the Ultra Cool, very, very Badass names he came up with for them wrong.

Okay, these are some of my opinions after finishing both Trigun 98 and Trigun Stampede:
Tri98 Vash’s pervier moments were annoying and I liked Tristamp Vash better in that regard. Not bashing, it’s just not for me. My biggest complaint with this is in ep. 6 with Elizabeth and the otherwise very sad backstory reveal for both of them. I feel like having Vash follow her like a dog for most of the episode kind of took away from that, but whatever.
Tristamp Wolfwood is openly a bastard. He knows it, I know it, you know it, etc. Tri98 Wolfwood is also a bastard, but he’s a charming bastard - or at least trying to be.
Getting to see an/the origin of Derringer Meryl in Tristamp is heartbreaking and wonderful. Seeing Tri98 do her cape flare of derringers was deranged and so fun.
Both Wolfwood’s early introductions being strangers saying that he’s a well prepared dead man (“That is one heck of a well prepared dead guy.” in Tri98 and “He’s not long for this world” “At least he’s prepared - the dead man’s got his own tombstone.” in Tristamp) is killing me (and it’s very on the nose…mean).
It’s interesting that Gosef is much more person-sized, but otherwise unchanged in Tristamp. I want to see what they do with Gray the Ninelives.
I do like the slow reveal of Vash’s prosthetic and it’s gun in Tri98.
Wolfwood’s confessional is ridiculous, 10/10, love that he always immediately tries to con people, good for him.
Meryl takes soooo long to accept that Vash is actually Vash in Tri98 and even though it made me impatient I get it. She suffers all the time lmao.
Tristamp Zazie is so much more interesting to me. More fleshed out motivations, cooler design, more gender, some body horror eldritch being vibes, just a lot more fun for me as a viewer.
However, I generally liked the Gung-Ho-Guns and Tristamp barely had them at all. Also, I expected to see Midvalley more ngl, with how much I’ve seen people talk about him.
Legato my beloathed. He’s more interesting in Tri98, but he’s pretty flat and unsympathetic in Tristamp so far. Maybe we’ll get more of his manga backstory in season 2. He’s such a good antagonist and I’m fucked up about it.
Millions Knives is a good antagonist in both versions, but Tri98 builds up this mysterious mastermind persona while Tristamp makes him more immediately sympathetic and humanizes his motivations to an extent while also firmly establishing him as an incredibly violent, single-minded character. It’s made clear so much earlier what drives him. Still very fucked up solution and execution, but that’s the point.
Millywood shippers: I get it
Vashwood shippers: I also get it
Meryl is still forever and always aroace to me, but I get Vashmeryl to an extent and wish you all the best in your shipping endeavors.
Honestly all four of them are very shippable in a lot of different ways, so good for them.
I liked Milly a lot as a character, love her dynamic with Wolfwood.
They all feel so fucking young in Tristamp. I know I’ve joked that Roberto unexpectedly got custody of three college students, but they’re so baby. Tri98 has Wolfwood and Meryl in their mid-to-late twenties, they’re more experienced and you can tell.
And now, by the power vested in me by finishing both series, I am going to talk my shit once again.

Personal Posts List
Since I'm going to be more active in this blog again, here's a list of all of the posts I've made so as to not have to go through the hassle of finding them amidst the sea of reblogs and other posts I'm probably going to make later on. Overall thoughts on what could go down in Trigun Stampede S2
The possibility of the existence of worm-worshiping cults in Trigun Stampede Thoughts on what could be the deal with Tonis in Trigun Stampede S2 Prospect of Legato showing up in that ridiculous casket/full-body cast looking contraption he wore in Trigun Maximum in Trigun Stampede S2 The possibility of Meryl and Milly getting to fight alongside Wolfwood against Gray the Ninelives in Trigun Stampede S2 Theory on why Luida and Brad decided to by five Vash only one out of four of Rem’s photos they found in Ship 5 The existence of multiple accounts of someone or something surviving the Big Fall in various forms in Trigun Stampede The contrast between Brad’s initial and eventual view and treatment of, and relationship with Vash in Trigun Stampede and the crew of Ship 5’s view and treatment of, and relationship with Tesla in Trigun Maximum The probability of Vash having known Roberto was going to die in the elevator before he had met up with Knives Thoughts on the general public’s perception and treatment towards Meryl after Lost July and on the possible confrontation between her and Brilliant Dynamites Neon in Trigun Stampede S2

And Vash gets to visit Chicago!
The medcenter vanished and Vash found himself kneeling on a street paved with a hard black substance. He had never seen that before, not even in December City. He looked up as he stood. The buildings stretched higher than the tallest building he had ever seen, reaching for one sun in the blue sky. So Earth, as remembered by Chuck, probably. He closed his eyes and listened. The song Hannah had on repeated place drifted faintly through the entire scene, but sounds of fighting were louder. Vash opened his eyes and headed toward the fight.
The roads and buildings were laid out in a grid and there was no other vehicles or pedestrians impeding Vash’s progress. The taller buildings did have crumbling battle damage and there were craters in some of the side streets Vash passed. It didn’t take long before Vash saw a tan building bout three-stories tall with two massive doors that were rolled down to the pavement. Gray the Ninelives aimed his hands at the tall sign perched on top of the roof that named the place the Last Chance Garage. Bullets from his fingers shattered the sign that was mostly wood and canvas. then he closed up his fingers again and ripped a sign from the wall above the doors. It clattered on the black pavement in front of a broad male in a purple suit.
“Oh well done. Please destroy this proletariat repair pit, you engine of extermination. Last chance for the Last Chance.” He had a rolling laugh, but nothing humorous in it.
Vash looked down at the sign. It had a motorcycle in profile between two wings. Hannah and Chuck had said they lived in a garage.
The man in the purple suit noticed Vash. “What are you doing here?” he demanded and the worst body odor Vash had ever scented wafted from him.
“Public street,” Vash answered.
“You are well armed for a public street. Perhaps you’re looking for an opportunity to wreck havoc. I can make that happen for you. Lawrence Lactavius Limburger.”
“Oh.” Vash blinked. “Oh, I’ve heard of you. Vash the Stampede.”
Limburger’s face didn’t move quite right, but whatever material the swarthy skin was created from did shift close enough to show confusion. “You are a panicked rush of cattle?”
“No, but humans sure turn into a panicked rush around me.”
“Ah, yes. Humans are easy to fool and easy to control with panic.” Limburger looked back at the garage building with loathing tugging thick lips into a frown. “Well, most of them.”
“Not finding taking over the world as easy as you thought it would be, huh? Can’t wish you luck at it; I really don’t think you should do it.”
“Then why are you here in Chicago?”
“I’m looking for my bro.”
“Bro? Bro?” Limburger snarled. “You’re not one of those vile vermin from Mars and you certainly don’t dress like a biker!”
That was some impressive spittle coming out of Limburger. Vash shook his head. “No, I’m not from Mars. And neither is my fuzzy little bro. But I heard about how he gut checked you!”
“Ninelives!” Limburger shouted. The robot Gung-Ho Gun swiveled at his waist further than organics could to look at Limburger and Vash. “Squash him! This Vash the Stampede!”
