skaterboy! art doesn't have much an idea of what to do with his life,he spends most time at the skatepark when he's not working part time at the local 7/11 serving slushies, skaterboy! art makes you mixtapes for every month of your relationship and draws messy flames and hearts on the cd and smiles the proudest when he shows it to you 'look what i did at the internet cafe doll,just for you baby.', skaterboy! art who plays nintendo 64 or playstation all day when it rains,having you placed in his lap in his messy room,whining when you try to move, skaterboy! art definitely pushes you on your knees once he gets bored of his game and makes you suck him off just because why not ? the game is boring and you look so nice in his lap, skaterboy! art who is so bad at taking you on dates that they mostly contain of going to the mall, the movies or the arcade, he does win you a very odd looking plushie everytime though so you can't complain, skaterboy! art who definitely smokes too many cigarettes and weed, whenever you tell him to quit he just goes 'i am doing good babe,don't worry nothings gonna happen' (he once had to catch a guy who stole a bottle of liquor and almost threw up on the side walk from the way his lungs burned), skaterboy! art definitely owns a build out VW van and bends you over in the back,he does not care that the van shakes and your moans echo through the empty parking lot (this man does not care about protection btw,he just hopes for the best or finishs on your back)

Not too sure how strange of an ask this is, but have any ideas on how to make a winged being with "legwings" similar to sharovipteryx, but is capable of flight? Thank you in advance!

in the process of looking up images to remind myself what a sharovipteryx is and how it moves, i found this tumblr post redesigning the pokemon Latios and Latias as a pair of sharovipteryx and it's amazing, I love this, shoutout to @alphynix

anyway. so what you're asking is how to make a creature with those back-leg membrane wings but in a way that allows for powered flight instead of just gliding? powered flight requires some method of flapping, so as long as the muscles and joints are able to move that way, it should work out. for reference, here's an image of the sharovipteryx (artist: Dmitry Bognadov)

their shape reminds me of a paper airplane.

hmmmm let's start by talking about how arm wings flap for powered flight, comparing their shape to these leg wings.

going for the bat wing because they've also got a membrane. when bats fly, a lot of the motion is in the elbow (excluding the fingers for the sake of comparison here). each flap brings the wing to a full horizontal spread, and then it's drawn closer to the body and lifted at the elbow to bring it back upwards, more or less. not every flap folds all the way in! once a bat is in the air, it can usually flap in smaller motions to maintain its lift. this also depends on wing shape and size, as smaller wings require more frequent and deeper flapping while bigger wings are typically better for soaring and require less and more shallow flapping after takeoff.

the back leg wing is easy enough to spread out and flap downward, but i think the struggle comes from bending the knee for an upstroke. in this case, I believe a more flexible hip joint would allow for a better upstroke. or it would have to move more forward and then spread out. as a result, it may not have the same range of big flaps as a bat or bird, and i think it might resemble the way frogs kick their legs when they swim.

I do not dabble in animation very often and trying to do foreshortening on flapping wings is hard, so forgive the quality haha. but I couldn't figure out how else to illustrate what I was thinking of for the movement on the leg wings. may not be as efficient as arm wings when it comes to agile powered flight, but it would perhaps be enough to provide lift so the creature isn't just gliding.

11 - Deterrence

Kris and Susie looked askance at each other, then turned back towards the beaming prince, brows raised inquisitively.

'You, uh… sure you wanna come to the dojo with us?' said Susie. 'What with all the, uh... fighting.'

'Of course, Susie!' said Ralsei sweetly, striking his palm with his fist. 'I… I realise I have to do everything I can to support my friends in our quest, so, um… even if it is a little unpleasant, I'm determined to help!'

Kris clicked their fingers. 'Oh, like a cheerleader?'

His smile widened a notch. 'You could say that I suppose, haha.'

The dragoness shot Ralsei a grin, tousling his hair with a firm claw. 'Arright then! Nice to have a fluffy nerd for encouragement and crap. Just stay back and let me n' Kris handle the ugly stuff.'

'Oh, that won't be necessary! I have a weapon of my own now, you see.'

And so saying, the prince reached into his robe and began to pull out a thin steel object, black as night. Kris and Susie leaned in for a closer look; she snorted with some amusement and not a small amount of derision.

'Pfft, like some little fairy wand or summat? Sure your baby hands can… can, uh…'

She trailed off as Ralsei continued drawing his weapon - it was now a meter long, and seemed to radiate a grim aura. If he noticed this, he didn't comment on it, but continued talking with an excited smile on his face.

'I'd… really rather not fight at all if I can help it,' he explained, oblivious to his friends' growing bewilderment. 'So I went with… a deterrent, I guess you could call it? Something that'd make our opponents think twice about facing off against us!'

Once the object was three times his height, Ralsei withdrew it with a flourish, and now both astonished teenagers could see it for what it really was - a gargantuan scythe, bladed with jagged obsidian that glinted menacingly in the darklight and adorned with iridiscent skulls that were grinning wickedly, eyes burning black with umbral malice. The prince struck the ground with its blunt end, the ebony metal chiming an ominous knell that spoke of untimely ends and mocking eulogies.

The prince leaned coyly against the hellish weapon, batting his eyelashes like a schoolgirl. 'So, what do you think, friends? You don't, um… reckon I went a bit overboard, do you…?'

Neither Kris nor Susie responded with words. The dragoness's eyes were wide, mouth slack, something approaching awe and envy etched across her mauve features. The human, meanwhile, simply raised one hand in an affirmative thumbs-up, as if Ralsei had shown off a cool bug and not a cursed weapon manifested from some deep, dark nightmare.

'....y;know, actually,' said Susie in a quiet voice, 'I've, uh... changed my mind. Let's do some knitting instead or something.'
