The Little Angel
Summarry: An AU where Dean transfers to Castiel’s school. They quickly fall in love with each other but keep those feelings hidden out of fear that they won’t be reciprocated. Dean winds up in a terrible accident and goes into a comatose state in which Cas cares for him anonymously.
This fic was inspired by the song Class Clown by Anthony Amorim.
-----
Chapter 1
An attractive boy with black hair sat in the back corner of the semi-crowded class. He was staring out a nearby window. There was a look of disinterest shrouded on his slightly stubbly face. He was the first thing Dean noticed as he walked into the noisy and crowded class. Some students looked his way when he entered the classroom. The teacher cleared his throat to introduce the new student. They quickly silenced, turning to the front to face the pair. Dean was nervous but he smiled at them confidently. He was used to moving around and going to new schools. Dean’s gaze wandered over the other students before returning to the attractive boy who hadn’t bothered looking towards the front.
“Everyone I’d like you to meet Dean Winchester,” the teacher said, gesturing towards Dean, “Please take a seat.”
Dean sat in the empty seat in front of the boy hoping to strike up a conversation. Before he got the chance some other kids by him started to introduce themselves. Dean introduced himself to them.
--
Castiel’s morning had been uneventful as usual. He didn’t have any friends in his first-class today. Instead of gossiping about the new kid, he stared out the window listening to the hushed whispers of girls debating about what he would look like. Cas finally glanced at the front of the classroom when Mr. Shurley cleared his throat. By his side was a boy. His eyes were scanning the students. Cas looked back out the window. Sure the boy was cute but Cas had no intention of talking to him. Not at the moment at least.
Mr. Shurley introduced him, “Everyone I’d like you to meet Dean Winchester. Please take a seat.”
The name registered in the back of Cas’s head just in case he needed to know it. Cas only moved when Dean sat down in front of him. He looked at him in surprise. There were a lot of other empty seats in the classroom. He dismissed the thought creeping up in his head. Cas’s heart was beating quickly.
After Dean was done talking to the other people in front of him he turned around and smiled.
He was even cuter up close. Cas tried his hardest not to blush, though he was sure some of the heat made it to his cheeks. Dean had beautiful green eyes that were crinkled with his perfect smile. His cheek and jawbones were sharp. There was a light sprinkle of freckles brushing his face.
“Hi, I’m Dean,” he said, reaching out his hand for a handshake.
“I know. I’m Castiel.” Cas responded as he gingerly shook the other boy’s hand. Sparks. He must have imagined that.
“Castiel, huh?  Weird name” Dean said with a slightly confused look on his face.
“Yeah, like the angel. My family’s religious.” Cas shrugged.
“Well, it’s nice to meet you, Cas.” Dean said with a wink before turning back to the front of the class as Mr. Shurley began the lesson.
Cas was sure his face was as red as a tomato. He spaced out for the rest of the day, thinking of the green eyes and calloused skin that belonged to the new kid.
And so the crush began.
--
“Cas’’ a whisper.
That smile.
“Cas.” slightly louder.
Those green eyes.
“Cas!” a yell, this time he was being shaken.
Cas had been lost in his thoughts of Dean Winchester. He finally snapped back to reality. Gabriel, Castiel’s best friend, was shaking his arm.
“Dude, you okay? What’s wrong?” Gabe asked.
“N-nothing.” Cas managed to get out.
“Is it the new kid? Did he hurt you?” Gabe interrogated, this time with a look of concern and rage.
“No! Nothing like that.” Castiel assured him. It had been a couple of weeks since Dean had transferred to their school. He’d started a few weeks after the second semester began. Cas had noticed the air getting warmer. Spring was on its way along, bringing along Promposals and a new set of gossip.
“Well, what the-” Gabriel started, his face quickly changed from confusion to realization, “Ooooh. You like him.”
Cas’s only response was his face turning a light pink. Gabriel and most other students at Heaven’s Gates High had known that the blue-eyed boy was gay for years. His sexuality wasn’t a secret. Luckily, no one seemed to care about it.
“D’aw, you two would make the cutest couple.” Gabe teased, earning a glare from Cas, “You should ask him to prom.”
Somehow that thought made Castiel’s face impossibly redder. He glanced over to where Dean was sitting with some of the school jocks. He was laughing at a joke one of them made. Dean made eye contact, making Cas look away quickly. Heat radiated from his cheeks as he felt the green eyes staring at him. Instead of looking back he turned to Gabe and leaned his head on the table.
“I can’t. He’s probably straight, even if he wasn’t, he wouldn’t be interested in me.” Cas sighed sadly.
“Don’t beat yourself up, Cas. I’m sure he’d like you if he wasn’t straight. Hell, I would like you if I was gay.” Gabriel stated with complete confidence, making Castiel chuckle.
“Thanks, I think,” Cas answered.
“Anytime,” Gabe reassured him.
That conversation helped Cas get through the rest of the day with a relatively peaceful mindset.
--
It had been a few weeks since Dean had started at the new high school. He was already pretty popular, though he doubted that he’d be able to maintain the popularity for much longer. That’s how it has been so far in his high school career. This was his, 4th? Maybe 5th high school. Luckily, this was his senior year and he wouldn’t have to worry about school much longer. His plan was to pass high school and carry on the family business.
Dean’s thoughts made their way back to the group of jocks he was sitting with. Dean was relatively good at football. He had just joined the school's team and was now attempting to bond with some of the players. One of them, Benny, had just made a joke. Dean hadn’t been paying attention to it but he laughed anyway.
He felt the hair on the back of his neck rise. Sensing a pair of eyes watching him, he quickly scanned the lunchroom. He quickly found the source. It was Castiel, the cute boy from his pre-calc class. Dean quickly decided to take a shot at flirting from a distance, but the other boy had already looked away. Dean’s face fell a little. He sat, staring in disappointment for a moment longer, hoping the blue-eyed boy would look at him again. When he didn’t Dean rejoined his teammates’ conversation with an awkward chuckle.
Lunch was over too quickly but he only had one more class for the day.
Dean never paid attention in Economics. It had to be the most boring class that he had. Lucky for him it wasn’t hard to distract himself from the seemingly eternal boringness of the class. His eyes dragged across the board at the front of the room. They picked out every small detail, eventually coming to a stop at the date on the edge of the board. Wednesday, February 12th. Two more days before the weekend. He sighed in defeat. The only thing he had to look forward to was pre-calc in the morning. Dean’s mind wandered to the handsome boy who sat behind him.
A smile crept along Dean’s face as he thought of the details on the boy's face. How he turned pink when they saw each other.
Dean imagined cornering the smaller boy, trapping him between Dean’s body and the wall. He pictured those perfect blue eyes staring up at him innocently as he leaned down and pressed his lips against the plump, pink ones. Moistening the chapped lips with his tongue. Maybe he’d run his hands along the boy’s hips and back. Kissing the scruff along his jaw and neck. Fingers slowly exploring every nook and cranny of-
Fuck
Dean shifted uncomfortably in his seat. He took a few deep breaths. His mind searched for other things to think about.
Dean heard the chair behind him squeak over the monotone script of his teacher.
“Hey, Dean.” a low voice said behind him with a nudge to his shoulder, “You going to Adam’s party?”
He turned his eyes and head slightly to put a name to the voice. It was Kevin.
“Dunno man, when is it?” Dean responded.
“This weekend. You gotta ride?”
“Yeah man, text me the address,” Dean said. Maybe he’d be able to pick up a chick or two to take his mind off the blue-eyed boy for a while. Dean’s cell phone pinged with the texted address.
“Thanks.” Dean smiled.
-
The next day Dean stumbled, tiredly, into his pre-calc class. Usually, he didn’t arrive so early but his Dad had an early meeting and a busted tire, so he and his little brother, Sammy, were dropped off at school early. He yawned and rubbed his eyes. Finally noticing how empty the room was. The only people there were Castiel and Mr. Shurley. Cas was at his desk using his hands as a pillow. While Mr. Shurley graded some papers.
“You’re here early, Mr. Winchester.” the older man commented without looking up from his papers.
“Uh, yeah. My dad had an early meeting and had to borrow my car.” Dean responded with a chuckle.
This time Mr. Shurely looked up from the paper and folded his hands before answering. “I don’t recall asking. Now have a seat. I need to finish grading these.” He gestured towards Dean’s desk before going back to his writing. He made his way to the desk in front of the boy.
Cas still had his head resting on his hands. Upon closer inspection, Dean realized he was asleep. Cas’s back was rising and falling steadily under the large, blue-grey sweatshirt he was wearing. Dean leaned a little over his desk while putting his bag down to look at Castiel’s face. His usually blue eyes were closed gently. His long lashes reached for the bags resting under them. Dean’s eyes wandered down towards the man's plump, chapped lips. They were slightly parted. A small trickle of drool ran out from between them, getting caught in the light stubble on his jaw before trickling onto the back of his hand. A light snore emitted from the parted lips with every breath.
Dean smiled and let out a small chuckle at the sight. He had to force down the temptation to reach out and wipe away the spittle. Dean’s chair creaked loudly when he sat down making him wince. Castiel immediately sat up. His ocean blue eyes looked dazed from sleep. They stared directly at Dean for a while, not fully registering what was happening. Dean felt his face start to heat up as he tried to hold back a laugh. Cas made a sudden gasp of realization. His eyes cleared and widened as his cheeks began to turn pink. He wiped the drool from his cheek and ran out of the classroom.
Dean sat, unmoved, at his desk. Wondering if that actually happened. He chuckled to himself as he thought of the other boy’s messy bedhead and dazed out, sleepy face. If that wasn’t relatable he wasn’t sure what was.
Mr. Shurley let out a ‘tsk’ of annoyance as Castiel ran out of the room. Dean stooped down and unzipped the front pocket of his bag, grabbing some cash from it before zipping it back up. He stood and walked out the door. Dean tugged on the bottom of his ridden up T-shirt as he wandered down the hall to the Cafeteria. His eyes quickly scanned the lunchroom in search of some kind of vending machine. He finally spotted one and bought two Gatorades. One was purple, the other light blue. He wandered haphazardly around the halls, looking for Castiel. He gave up after a few minutes and went back to the classroom. It had a few more kids in it then before but it was still pretty empty. Dean looked over towards his desk. He smiled when he saw Castiel sitting in the desk behind his. Cas looked a little more cleaned up. His hair was more controlled and his eyes were more alert. The dribble remains from his nap earlier had been washed away. Upon seeing Dean his face grew red once again as he tried to sink into his seat further to hide from view. Dean chuckled. Damn, this boy was cute.
Once he reached his desk and sat down he turned around. Castiel had his long sleeves pulled up to his fingertips. He held his hands in front of his eyes in embarrassment.
“Hey, sleeping beauty.” Dean teased, hoping for a reaction out of the other boy, “I got you something.”
He set down the two bottles on Cas’s desk. Cas peeked out from behind his hands curiously before reaching out and taking the purple Gatorade with a muttered thanks. He struggled to open it for a second and Dean hid his smile by taking a sip of his own Gatorade. He smacked his lips loudly and inspected the bottle, wishing they sold something stronger. They sat in silence for the rest of the class.

Summary: Transferring to a new college two years in seemed crazy, but so was being a fashion major that was being double housed in a dorm building with medical majors. Meeting Shawn was a bonus to the arrangement, and everything else that happens, well, that was just fate.
------
Explaining to people that you were going to college for fashion merchandising was always a fun conversation. You usually got weird stares or the famous question “what can you do with that?” But that’s what you wanted to to. So now here you stood, in front of your dorm hall, your final suitcase in hand as you took it all in, in it’s old beige bricked glory.
For the next two years, this was your home, and as much as you’d miss seeing your family every day, you’ve lived with them for the first 20 years of your life.
When your parents dropped you off, your mom told you “Don’t think I don’t want updates every night during dinner, especially about boys. And classes. But mostly boys.” She’s always been very pushy about you having a boyfriend. Or at least one that treated you correctly.
Since you were a transfer, luckily you didn’t have to live by the usual first year dorm rules. So while you were required to spend at least a semester in a dorm, you could choose a single room., so you were on the housing website at midnight on choosing day. Sure it was more expensive than a double occupany, but your college fund your parents set up paid for your tuition, so you got one of the lucky single rooms. Considering your odd sleeping habits, your need to listen to music while you study, and a few personal reasons,  it was really best for everyone that you had a single room. Plus, now you could binge watch Gossip Girl and Project Runway on repeat without judgement.
What you just learned, however, was that your dorm was one of the few on campus that was housed by two majors. Usually they try to keep students together by major so studying is easier, but yours wasn’t just fashion majors, you were sharing a dorm with med students. Which was an odd combination, but the biology building was on one side of the dorm and the business building was on the other, and fashion majors were required to have a business minor. So it made logical sense in terms of location.
Walking into your new room, you saw all the opportunities for decor. The walls were totally bare, the bed was light enough for you to easily move it around the room, and there was a small package of dorm safe hanging hooks on the desk in the corner, along with a list of things that you were allowed to do and what was restricted.
Dropping your suitcase to the floor, you walked over to the desk and began reading your list to see if you could get a mini fridge.however, a soft knock on your door startled you, and you dropped the paper, letting it flitter down to the carpet.
You opened the door to see a tall brunette holding out a small gift bag and giving you a really nervous smile. “Hi, I’m Emily. I live just down the hall and I, uh, wanted to drop this off.” She looked at you with big eyes as you took the bag from her and smiled. “It’s got um, some popcorn and a bottle of soda in it and a few snacks and stuff. Oh! And a few school supplies.”
She was obviously very nervous, a freshamn. Technically you were too, but you understood being 18 and trying to make friends in college. Even if your first two years where at a comminuty college. She was probably doing this to meet new people and try to find some friends.
“Hi. Thank you so much! This is actually really cute and I love Dr. Pepper, it remonds me of home. It’s really nice to meet you.” The two of you finished your introductions. You learned that she was a first year med student, and that the RA’s were showing a movie being the hall’s big study loft tonight, and that’s why she put the snack bags together.
“So I guess I’ll see you tonight?” She asked, excited to have a new friend.
“Of course! I love Pretty Woman, it’s one of my absolute favorites.” Emily squealed and clapped her hands before walking off the deliver the rest of her treats the other residents. “Oh and Emily, if you ever need anything, I’m always here. Just be sure to knock twice so I know it’s you.” Her smile got even bigger, if that was possible.
“Thank you so much! You’re so sweet. I’ll see you tonight!” After waving goodbye, you closed you door and looked around your empty room again, thanking the gods you had a whole room and bathroom to yourself. You’d never lived alone before, well technically you weren’t alone, but it was close enough.
Wondering out loud to yourself you asked. “What am I going to do in here?” You eventually decided you thought the desk would look better by the window, for a pretty view while studying, and the bed would be best on the opposite wall. Tha t would make it easier to see your tv that you’s put on your dresser. When you were able to find someone to lift that heavy thing onto it, and how you were going to move it all, you had no idea. But for now you could at least plan out where the rest of your things could go, and put up the things you knew wouldn’t be in the way of the rearranging.
Things were going along rather smoothly until you heard a loud thud against the outside of your door. Opening it carefully, a tall guy with glasses tumbled into your room. “Oh fuck! I’m so sorry I stumbled over my own two feet.” He laughed, face a bright pink in embarassment.
“Oh, no, It’s alright, are you okay?” you asked and he stood up and nodded, brushing off his jeans.
“Yeah I’m good, I just have two left feet and the world’s worst balance. I’m Kyle by the way!” He smiled, sticking out a hand. You gave him the same intro you gave to Emily, he was also a fashion merchandising major, the first one you’ve met today. “So if you need any help just come get me. I took most of the intro classes already so I can give you my notes. If you’d like.”
You let out a sigh of relief. “You’re a lifesaver! Thank you so much. Are you going to this movie thing tonight?” You asked, hoping he’d join and Emily wouldn’t be ubset that you brought an extra person.
“Yeah, who would pass up a movie night? Also it’s got pizza and snacks and it’s kinda just a greeting party. Last year’s was really cool.” You talked for a few more minutes before saying goodbye after sharing phone numbers, then you were left to get ready. This thing seemed like it would have a lot more people than you thought, so you decided to take a shower after working on your room.
A few hours later, and your bedroom was now fully put together, kind of. You made sure that your sheets where clean and your bed was freshly made with the brand new white quilt your mom got you. All of your school supplies were put away respectively, and your clothes were all put in the small dresser and closet.
After taking your shower you called your mom. “Hey sweetie. All moved in and comfy?” She asked, excited for you. She was a little bummed that she wasn’t able to stay and help you unpack, but her job was demanding, and you understood. Besides, you had to grow up eventually.
“Yeah. I just took a shower. They’re playing Pretty Woman in the loft tonight so I’m going to go watch it. It’s like I never even left home honestly. That’s probably exactly what I’d be doing tonight anyways.” She laughed, knowing how you watched this movie almost every weekend and it eventually became a family tradition on Friday nights.
“Oh honey I miss you so much already! Your room is all empty and your father is already talking about a men cave.” She groaned, already fearful of the idea.
“You’re not letting him turn my room into a man cave. That’s stupid.”
“Well duh, he’s lucky I let him put his football stuff up in the living room.”
The two of you talked for a good ten minutes before she brought up the topic of boys. “Well honey, just remember. You’re living with soon to be doctors. Imagine scoring a hot doctor. Like a McDreamy of your own!”
Your mom always watched Grey’s Anatomy with you, and you laughed at her comment. “Okay mom, I’ve gotta get ready. This thing starts in an hour and I’ve got to make sure I look worthy of a hot doctor.” Your mom put your dad on the phone to say goodbye before you hung up and turned your music on, tossing your phone onto your bed.
Your mother's words in mind, you decided to redo your makeup for the movie night. Who knows, you really might just meet someone. But you’re doubtful they’d be interested in you.
Looking yourself over in the mirror, your loose and slightly messy curls, the vintage long sleeve from your cousin, and your black jeans looked presentable enough. Slipping on your vans you grabbed your snacks from Emily and your phone and made your way to the loft.
“Hey, you came!” Emily smiled when you walked in, a group of other students sat around her on the fluffy bean bags and waved with her. Kyle was with them as well, so you made your way over to them. Most of them looked like first years, but then again, so did you.
Emily went around introducing everyone “There’s a few more I know are coming. I met them last, they were talking about coming but I just don’t know where they- oh hey!” Her smile bright as her eyes shifted to look at the new arrivals.
When you turned to look for yourself, you were expecting another freshman, maybe another girl like you, who decided to show up in something other than pyjamas.
However, the person in front of you was not definatelynot a freashman, or female. He was tall and handsome. Extremely handsome. Your fingers twitched in the need to touch the curls on his head and his eyes were the most beautiful thing you’d seen.
His jeans were probably as tight as yours, and you wanted to know what was under that beige hoodie more than anything in the world, but you were getting way ahead of yourself. You hadn’t even spoken to him yet.
“Guys, this is Shawn!” Emily announced “Actually, he lives just across the hall from you.” She said, placing a hand on your shoulder. before she bent down and whispered “he’s also a junior, like you. He’s gonna be a doctor.”
Looking back at the gorgeous man before you, you watched as he grabbed a bag of popcorn and plopped down into the beanbag next to you. “Hey, I’m Shawn. We’re neighbors right? Emily was telling me about you.”
You nodded, unable to speak. “Yeah. I live just across the hall apparently.” His eyes were so pretty, and his smile was unlike anything you’d ever seen. I was almost impossible to not smile with him.
“Yeah I saw you moving in earlier. If you need any help rearranging the room just come ask. I usually study in my room anyways so I’m almost always there.” You nodded, making a mental note to ask him to help you move the tv as well
“How did you know I was thinking about rearranging the room?” You questioned, stealing a few pieces popcorn from the bag that he’d tilted towards you as an offering.
He just shrugged, “When I first moved in I wanted to do it too. I thought the desk would look better by the door, that way I could put my bed by the window so I could look out over the courtyard. Plus the sun in my face really wakes me up” he let out a soft chuckle. It was almost like everything about him was enchanting.
Smirking a little you popped the popcorn into your mouth before speaking again. “I’m going to have to take you up on that offer. I was actually going to rearrange today until I realized I needed some help. So I’m assuming you’re in a single room as well?” He nodded, grabbing a slice of pizza and a water bottle.
“Yeah I got lucky since I’m a junior but also real close to graduating next year with my program internship. l want to specialise in Pediatric Surgery.” You looked over at him in shock. There was no way he was already about to graduate, especially in a field like that. This was a man after your heart. “I know I know, I’m young. But in my 11th and 12th year I ended up at a special center for Medical studies so I got started early. I’m hoping to get into a residency soon, and wow I am talking about myself a lot. What about you?”
You smiled, giving him an earful himself of your love for fashion and how you hoped to one day work in New York, LA or even Paris or Milan. What surprised you was how interested he seemed. It was like he actually cared about what you were telling him as opposed to being obligated to listen to you drone on and on about trends and the color patterns for next fall.
“So, I was thinking tomorrow about going around campus and just finding where everything is. Are there any suggestions for the perfect studying spot? Or where to get the best foor or decaf coffee?” He swallowed his mouth full of pizza before answering.
“I’ll one up you. I’ll show them to you myself.” Before you could say anything else, a dorm adviser announced that they were about to start the movie and the lights went out as the opening credits rolled. When you felt a nudge on your shoulder, you looked over to see Shawn offering you a blanket from the backpack he brought with him, noticing your slight shaking due to the temperature of the room. You didn’t even realise how cold you were until you wrapped it around yourself, whispering a small “Thank you.” You finally situated yourself into the fuzzy bean bag, snuggling into the blue fleece.
You took a deep breath to relax and had to stop yourself from humming at the smell of cologne that lingered on the fabric. It had a nice sandalwood scent mixed with a bit of vanilla and you had to keep from audibly moaning at the smell. So instead you focused on the movie, shoving a handful of popcorn into your mouth. Trying to ignore the literal greek god only 6 inches from you on the grey bean bag was nearly impossible, especially since he kept looking over at you.
It was almost midnight when the movie ended, half of the dorm had fallen asleep on the floor, Emily and a few others in the group included. The rest had left right at the end of the movie to sleep in their own beds. To be honest, you weren’t far behind, but there was no way you were getting up, you were wrapped up in this blanket, Shawn falling asleep on your shoulder. You didn’t have to heart to wake him.
Technically you didn’t have classes for another week, so thankfully someone decided to start another movie. It would’ve been boring to try to fall asleep to the main menu repeating over and over until someone decided to turn it off. You smiled as the beginning music of The Great Gatsby filled the large study room. The DiCaprio version would always be the better. So you settled back into the bean bag chair, wrapping yourself tighter into the blanket, deciding to fight sleep in favor of another one of your favorite movies.
Right when Nick walks into the parlor where Jordan and Daisy are lounging, Shawn rolled over in his sleep. At first it was fine, that is, until he kept rolling and ended up halfway on top of you. His head on your shoulder and his arm draped across you, his leg curled up on top of yours as he got comfortable.
You thought about waking him or moving him off, but he looked too peaceful. Too cute. And his body heat mixed with the blanket was keeping you comfortably warm. So you let him stay there, it wasn’t like he was hurting anything.
Throughout the movie, Shawn would move slightly closer. Obviously it wasn’t on purpose, and at one point, Cheryl, another girl you’d met earlier in the night, woke up and offered to help you get out from under him. She said her girlfriend likes to cuddle so  she got really good at sneaking away since she likes to be at the gym by 5am.
“No thanks, I’m pretty comfortable and I wanna finish this movie. But thank you.” She smiled down at you, bidding you a goodnight.
“You just want to bask in the glory of the hot doctor in training sleeping on you.” She whispered, pointing a perfectly manicured nail at you.
Laughing softly, you looked up at her before shifting your eyes back down to Shawn. “You got me. Now go to sleep. You’ve gotta be up early for the gym tomorrow.”
With a laugh and a wave, she walked off, leaving only you and a few others awake to finish the movie. But that suited you just fine. No one to ask questions because they were lost due to their negligence of reading the book.
As the movie came to an end, so did your energy and willpower to stay awake. Looking down at the boy asleep on you and the room full of college students who would probably hate themselves for falling asleep on the floor, you closed your eyes. Joining the rest of the group in slumber, waiting for the aftermath in the morning.

"I was warned,  and god I wish I listened.”
[8:02 am]
“Y/n get the hell up already!! ” Renjun growled, shaking the coffee cup in front of you in order to tempt you to get up. And it worked.“ Do I really have to bribe you with coffee every single morning to get you to get up?”
“…maybe”
and he laughed that beautiful laugh. “You ready for the first day back to school?” he asked, already knowing the answer.
“Please don’t remind me, I literally just got up if you don’t remember”
And that was how almost every day started. Renjun lived quite close to you and your brother's apartment, and his family owned a cafe (one of the reasons you two were friends.) so while he fueled your coffee addiction, you did his homework once a week. Cmon, you know Renjun wouldn't do anything for free.
———
Let’s just say you did not miss school AT ALL, and even that was an understatement, you fucking hated this shithole. The books, the exams, the gossip that spread like wildfire. However a part of you missed Renjun’s sarcasm and Lila’s warming smile first thing in the morning. And that’s what you were counting on to get you through this year.
Renjun has been your best friend for as long as you can remember. As for Lila, she joined your little group 3 years ago when she transferred from Kyoto, Japan. Since then, they’ve been all you’ve ever needed. Up until now, they were all you ever wanted, but something in you felt like this year was going to be a little bit different.
Nothing changed as you met Renjun and Lila in the cafeteria. Lila always looked like a fairy, with bright eyes. She was the prettiest girl you’ve ever met, with jet black hair tied into two moon buns with baby hair spilling out. Her makeup was always perfectly minimal, and she tucked an oversized patterned jumper into a pair of ripped mom jeans.
Renjun, however, had his hair dyed a shade darker than his natural one, he was the most sarcastic person you’ve ever met and if you needed a wrestling match to cheer you up, you knew you could always count on him. He was good at studying when he wanted to, but he was better at eating.
You were a bit different from the others, you had never dated anyone, yet you spent your time reading romance novels. Your hair was still in the same abstract shape it was in last night, and you were wearing comfy, maybe too comfy clothes. But they loved you none the less. More like they put up with you.
“So…guess who I’m sitting beside in homeroom?” Lila announced, beaming. This happened every year, Lila was nothing but a flirt with nice eyes, which she batted sweetly at whomever she sat beside in homeroom, in order to win them over, like a challenge.
“Go on..” Renjun rolled his eyes, getting bored with this annual conversation.
“Jaemin.”
And that was enough to get Renjun’s attention.
“And you’re happy? Like How?  He only flirts his way through, basically everything and then leaves them in the dark wanting more!?”
Yet Lila winked suggestively. “Exactly”
“As if he’ll ever even talk to you.” he scoffed
“Oh, I’m sorry what’s this?” Lila retorted as she pulled out a piece of paper with a number on it. “And I’m even going to Haechan’s party.”
Renjun never sighed so loudly before, as you laughed at the two of them.
Jaemin held a reputation, which you were aware of, which everyone was aware of. People say he flirts with teachers to get out of homework, others say if you look into his eyes for too long you fall in love. Both are believable. He was charming, to say the least, and you haven’t even met him before.
Every girl in the school was wrapped around his pinky finger, all he had to do was ask, and they’d drop to their knees. Despite his ‘alluring personality’, he’s never had a girlfriend for longer than a week. Well, that’s what Taeil said, and you know Taeil better than to believe everything he spits out.
He was basically every girl's fantasy— to put it short. But he wasn’t yours.
“Y/n…Y/N!!! The bell rang, let’s get to class.” Renjun said waving a hand in front of your face, interrupting your daydream thinking.
When you burst into class, silence descended upon the room.
“Ahh y/n, I see you’ve actually decided to come to my class, sadly….oh and Renjun.” Ms.Bracken scowled. God, you hated her. “This year I’ll have to split you two up, finally, y/n…back corner, Renjun… hmm, right in front of me.” and she smiled a deathly smile.
You lifted your gaze to see your deskmate, reading, taking sips of coffee with every paragraph. He was beautiful, and then his dark eyes met yours.
“Hi, I’m Jeno.” he smiled, and you almost melted right on the spot.
You barely stuttered out your name as you took your seat….awkwardly at that.
You’ve seen Jeno around the campus, I mean how could you not with that face. He was handsome, smart, and he was a god at football, but he was sweet, a little bit awkward, and he thought he was funny (he wasn’t) but how could you not laugh. He was perfect, and you would most definitely agree with stars brightening your eyes and warming your heart.
He was definitely one of the more ‘well-known’ people in our school, as well as the group he carries himself with. But anyone could tell you he’s the least of a ‘dick’ in that group, which was why you were glad to see him sitting beside you instead of someone like, Jaehyun for example who would probably try chat up the wall.
You felt relieved because so far everything was going quite well. Which was unusual because bad luck had a way of following you at this school.
‘Maybe this year won’t be so bad at all.’
But clearly it was too early to tell because by the time lunchtime came, you had already made a new enemy. And god was he gorgeous.

Teachings of the Heart
Part 4
@shattbigbang @pastellipastels
(First)(Previous)(Next)(Last)(AO3)(Art)
“Mr. Shirogane, is it true?” One of Shiro’s student’s ask. He freezes in the middle of writing the homework on the board. He’s been asked this question a hundred times today, and he’s so flustered he can barely think straight every time it’s brought up.
“I have no idea what you mean by that Claire.” Shiro says, not turning to look at her. His voice cracks mid sentence but he plays it off with a cough and tries to remember what he was writing. It’s his last class of the day, and it’s almost over. He just has to make it through practice, and then he can leave. It’s Thursday, and it’s the only day all of them don’t have extracurricular activities to supervise, unless there’s a game or competition.
Also known as mini golf day.
“Oh come on teach,” Claire’s friend, Anna, says, her voice teasing and devious. She must be spending way too much time in Pidge’s class. “Come on, spill the gossip. We all know you want to.”
Shiro’s actually impressed at how persuasive she sounds. Definitely spending way to much time with Pidge. Shiro blinks as he realizes he hasn’t written a single thing on the board, again. Every single class he’s had to deal with this. All day, at the end of class, one of his students brings up The Question and he forgets to give them their homework. They must have planned that this entire time, the devious little monsters.
Shiro sighs and caps his marker.
He turns to face his class, who all stare at him expectantly. Shiro moves around to the front of his teaching desk, scoots his papers back, and sits on the polished wood. It’s just tall enough that his feet don’t touch the ground, and Shiro is a very tall person.
“Okay fine.” He says. “Give me your worst.”
Immediately smiles fill up the room and a few hands shoot up into the air. Mainly Claire and her friends, who are friends with the three students who started this whole mess. Shiro huffs a short laugh and points at Anna.
“Are you and Mr.Holt doing the bedsheet tango?” Anna asks, wiggling her eyebrows. Shiro is actually caught off guard by how she puts it, amused by her choice in description.
“I like that, bedsheet tango. I’m going to use this against Mr.Kogane for sure. But no, we are not doing anything of the sort. And you’re all children, you shouldn’t be asking me that in the first place.” Shiro says, teasing them. He successfully gets a few eyerolls. He points to Claire.
“Do you like Mr.Holt?” Claire asks, ever the innocent student. Shiro, obviously, deflects.
“Of course I do, he’s my best friend.” Shiro says, fully aware he’s not answering her actual question.
“You know what I mean.” Claire says with a pout. Shiro laughs and rubs the back of his neck. This is probably the most frequent, and hardest to answer, question he’s been asked. He doesn’t like lying, but no way in hell will he mess up his friendship with Matt. A few minutes of emotional freedom isn’t worth what could be years of a lost friendship.
“I don’t. But what I would like to know, is why everyone is so interested? You’re high schoolers, you should hate your teachers, not be invested in their love lives.” Shiro says. He’s genuinely curious, seeing as he hated high school. It was easy for him, because he was a jock, and still is, but the drama teenagers start is tiring. So far, he’s gotten pretty much the same answer every time he asks his students this.
“If it isn’t obvious yet, this school is different from others.” Another student of his, a recent transfer named Cody replies. He’s a little bit of a loner, but most transfer students are at first. He’s also a sophomore, unlike his mainly senior classes, which means the kid is smart. Shiro’s been trying to recruit him to the football team, but he’s hesitant. Cody’s built like a tank, so he would be a valuable asset on the field.
Plus, it would help him get out of his shell.
“Huh,” Shiro says, running his tongue over his teeth.
The bell rings then and the class leaves in a little bit of a rush. Shiro smiles as he hops off of his desk and starts organizing the papers on his desk again. It’s probably one of the few things he hates being out of order. Meanwhile, Matt is so scatterbrained sometimes, it’s all on Shiro to make sure he keeps things from disappearing beneath his nose.
Shiro smiles as he grabs his stuff and slips on his jacket, ready to go to mini golf with his friends.
There’s a knock at his door and Shiro straightens from behind his personal desk, turning to face the doorway. He expected it to be one of his students, because a lot of them like to chat after classes.
He doesn’t expect it to be Lance.
Lance leans against the doorway, a smile on his face and his bag held limply in his left hand. Shiro smiles at him and walks up to him, turning off the light and locking his door. Lance waits patiently, bouncing on his toes.
“Hey Lance, what’s up?” Shiro starts, which is a little unusual. Lance has never been the type to delay a chance to talk. Lance walks side by side with him as they head out to their cars.
“Ready for mini golf? I’m positive I’ll beat Keith this time.” Lance says with a blinding smile. Shiro huffs a laugh, his breath coming out in a little white puff as they exit the building. Lance has never been able to beat Keith. Tie, yes, sometimes, but never beat. And despite the fact that the two of them are together, Keith refuses to lose. He’s a little bit over competitive.
“I have faith in you Lance. Show my little brother how it’s done.” Shiro says, walking down the side of the main school building towards the athletics building. He raises an eyebrow as he notices Lance is still walking with him step for step. Lance parks in front of the school like everyone else, except on Mondays and Wednesdays, when he has to coach swim practice.
“Is there,” Shiro says, pausing as he watches Lance just smile and bounce on his feet. He slows to a stop, his curiosity peaked. “Something you needed?”
Lance rocks back and forth a little, and then looks over Shiro’s shoulder. Shiro looks behind him but he doesn’t see anything out of the ordinary. Lance clears his throat, drawing Shiro’s attention back to him. Shiro waits patiently for Lance to spit out whatever is on his mind. It only takes a moment before Lance breaks.
“Would you be opposed to being a guest at my next swim practice? I’ve got a new student who’s a little bulkier than most swimmers.” Lance says, calming down and looking a lot more serious. “He’s a little shy, and he wanted to quit last week because he’s not as fast as my leaner of students. I want you to show him that even larger people can swim fast.”
Shiro’s eyebrows raise in interest.
“Is that so?” Shiro says, shifting his bag to his other hand.
“Yeah.” Lance says. “I would teach him myself, but I’m actually built like a swimmer. He’s not. See my dilemma?”
Shiro smiles, his shoulders untensing. For some reason, he was wary of what Lance wanted to talk to him about at first.
“I would love to help out Lance, anything for the kids. What’s this students’ name?” Shiro asks. Lance beams at him, bouncing on his feet again. This kid is just so energetic, no wonder he matches well with Keith’s chill. Unless Keith gets angry of course, then he’s like a firecracker, with Lance almost always being the match that sets him off.
“His name is Cody, and he’s a transfer. Kid is as smart as Pidge, maybe smarter, and I want to help him get a scholarship through swimming.” Lance says. Surprise makes Shiro’s eyebrows raise, and he smiles. He still wants Cody on the football team, but at least he’s branching out. One of his best students doesn’t deserve to be alone in high school.
“I think I know him, a sophomore right? He’s in my senior AP World History class. I’m glad he’s branching out.” Shiro says. Lance’s smile softens. As much as Shiro loves his students, Lance is the one who really goes out of his way to help them better themselves. He’s not the favorite for nothing.
“Awesome! Then he won’t be too shy with you!” Lance says, and they share a smile.
“Anyways, thanks, Shiro. See you at mini golf later!” Lance calls as he walks towards his car. Shiro responds in kind, waving and smiling as he heads to his car. There’s a movement out of the corner of his eyes, but when he looks there’s no one there.
He shrugs it off and gets in his car.

Paper Talk: Man Utd line up Tottenham enigma to replace superstar; Leeds hold winger ‘talks’
Tumblr media
Man Utd have identified an expensive Tottenham star to replace Paul Pogba – should he depart, while Leeds have reportedly held ‘talks’ with an exciting Dutch winger – all in Tuesday’s transfer gossip.
MAN UTD TURN TO TOTTENHAM
The ongoing uncertainty surrounding the long-term future of Paul Pogba has led to Man Utd plotting a Tottenham raid. Pogba, 28, is in the final year of his contract at Old Trafford. He was recently named on a four-man ‘contract list’ the Red Devils have drawn up. After his stellar start to the season, it comes as no surprise to see Man Utd wish to retain the dynamic Frenchman. But negotiating with Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola has rarely proved a straightforward task. The likes of Barcelona, PSG and Real Madrid have been reported to be lurking if a breakthrough cannot be made. As such, Monday’s Euro Paper Talk highlighted the possibility of AC Milan enforcer Franck Kessie being drafted in to fill the void. But according to the Express (citing Italian outlet Calciomercato), Tottenham midfielder Tanguy Ndombele is also on their radar. Ndombele – Spurs’ club record signing at £55.45m – appeared destined to leave North London in the summer. The 24-year-old reportedly set his sights on a move elsewhere, though concrete interest failed to materialise. New boss Nuno Espirito Santo seemingly retains hope Ndombele can be a fixture in his sides. He started in their 3-0 defeat to Chelsea on Sunday. But prising out the undoubted talent Ndombele possesses has been a difficult task for both of Nuno’s predecessors. Nonetheless, that task could be taken from Nuno’s hands if Man Utd come calling. Ndombele’s contract has four years left to run with Tottenham. As such, Daniel Levy would likely demand a significant fee for his signature. Where next for Erling Haaland? Man City, Chelsea, PSG…
LEEDS IN ‘TALKS’ WITH DUTCH WINGER

(The Sun) Andreas Christensen is ready to sign a new deal with Chelsea – after initially being offered a pay cut. (The Sun)
ARSENAL TALISMAN ATTRACTING EUROPEAN INTEREST
Tumblr media
Juventus and Atletico Madrid are reportedly keeping tabs on Bukayo Saka and are expected to make a move for the Arsenal winger this season. (Daily Mail) Former Tottenham midfielder Paulinho did not last long at Al Ahli. After just four appearances for the Saudi Arabian club Paulinho has left. (Daily Mirror) Cristiano Ronaldo had another potential suitor this summer before joining Man Utd. AND MORE TRANSFER GOSSIP
James Rodriguez is reportedly in the Middle East for talks to end his Everton hell. (The Sun) Liverpool are in line to pay stricken Championship club Derby County a £100,000 windfall if teenager Kaide Gordon makes his debut this week. (Daily Telegraph) Jesse Lingard is one of four players on Manchester United’s list of stars they want to tie down to new contracts this season. (Daily Star) Tottenham have no plans to change their policy on statues. That’s amid pleas from fans for the club to produce a lasting memorial for Jimmy Greaves. What Happened To Us
Ch. 13: Spring Fling
A/N: I edited this myself, so please be nice haha. Sorry for any mistakes!
Read this story on AO3
Betty twirled her fork around in her pasta getting lost in the swirling motion of her uneaten meal.
”Earth to Elizabeth Cooper.”
“Huh.” Betty returns from her daze.
“Are you okay with the set list for the dance?” Veronica asks.
“Ya.”
“Did you even look at it?”
“Ya I saw your email this morning, it’s good.”
“Girl you haven’t even touched your lunch. You are so dazed what’s on your mind?”
“I’m not dazed, I’m listening.”
“Bullshit! I’ve seen better acting in Twilight.” Kevin calls her out.
“I’m just busy with the Blue and Gold and planning the last dance of the year.” That was partially true. Betty was trying very hard to find the motivation to finish editing articles for the paper. Everytime she sat down at her computer she would fight the urge to throw her computer out the window or get interrupted by someone about planning the dance. Betty may need to take the year off from the dance committee next year. The last thing she wants to do is go to the dance on Friday night, but it is her turn to do the dance shift. Someone from the dance committee has to be at every dance to make sure that the football players don't spike the punch.
“Maybe it’s time you break out the birthday present I got you.” Veronica teases. Archie chokes on his soda as he remembers what the present is. Betty cracks a smile at her best friend’s discomfort.
“Well there goes my appetite.” Archie pushes his lunch to the side.
“Where’s Jughead the vacuum cleaner when you need him?” The table falls silent. Earlier in the school year the five of them would always sit at their usual lunch table, complaining about classes, gossiping (well the girls and Kevin gossiping), listening to Archie’s music, and never letting leftover food go to waste courtesy of Jughead.
Cheryl began sitting with them permanently after Jughead transferred schools.
“Is he speaking to you yet?” Veronica asks. Betty sighs not wanting to talk about it.
"Nope." Betty says sadly. She did kick him out of her room. She let her emotions get the better of him and she overreacted. It also didn't help that she was on her period when he came over which only made her way more emotional than we should be."How about you?" Betty wouldn't be surprised if he was talking to Archie yet. Jughead always let's Archie off of the hook before her. Betty hates that she feels a bit of resentment towards Archie about that.
“A little bit, but not much. He’s still pissed at me. I am going to try today after school. He and I need to settle this.”
“Good luck.” Betty says.
She told him the ball was in his court and he has not made a move. It took her a few days, but she’s realized she needs to begin the grieving mode for her relationship. She is starting to get really annoyed that he hasn’t yet broken up with her like she asked him to. At first she had hope that they could resume their relationship. She knew that things would not go back to the way it was right away, but they could be together. Now Betty is completely insecure. It has been days and she has heard nothing. She just has to accept the fact that it's over.
“Why is the vibe so depressing over here?” Cheryl sits down next to Betty with her lunch tray.
“It’s not depressing. We were just talking about the dance.” Betty flashes her fakest smile at an attempt to bring up the mood. She doesn't want this gloomy mood hanging over their lunch table. She would rather think or talk about anything besides Jughead. She really desperately wants to stop thinking about him.
"Hey Cooper what's this I hear that you don't have a date to the dance? Did you finally get rid of beanie boy?" Reggie appears. This is exactly what she doesn't need right now.
"Thanks for the offer Reggie, but I am still in a relationship." The entire table stares at her curiously. Betty knows they are all dying to know the status of her relationship. She can't answer them because she doesn't even know the answer herself.
"Your loss. If you change your mind you know where to find me." Reggie saunters off and Betty turns her attention back to her pasta purposely avoiding eye contact with the rest of the group.
Veronica scoots over to Betty.“Want to go dress shopping after school?”
“Ya sounds good.”
_______________________________________________________________________
“Jughead, what brings you in today?”
“Sheriff Keller,” Jughead says in his most unenthusiastic voice as possible.”I am here to see my dad.”
“Follow me.”
Jughead follows Sheriff Keller back to the familiar cell block.
“FP you have a visitor.” FP lifts his head from his bed. He sits up as soon as he sees that it’s Jughead.
Jughead waits until Sheriff Keller is gone to say anything. Jughead stuffs his hands into the pockets of his flannel. After everything he has read, he is willing to give his father a second chance. He confessed to murder to protect him and stopped drinking. He was even attempting to get their family back together. This was the dad Jughead knew growing up. The man that he never gave up on.
“Hey dad.”
“Jughead.” Jughead looks down at the ground awkwardly unsure of what to say next.”How are you doing son?”
“I’m fine.”
"Good. How'd the trial go?"
"It's not done yet. The trial got postponed because there was a fight outside of the court house. I testified a few days after that."
"How does that son of a bitch even have a case?" FP answers angrily tightening his hands around the metal bars on his cell.
"At least I got to see mom and JB because of that son of a bitch."
"How are you holding up with that?"
"Mom took off with Jelly Bean as soon as she stormed in without saying goodbye. Mom visited me at the hospital too. I don't know why, she just gave me a lecture about my life decisions. Life decisions that I can't even remember!"
"She visited you in the hospital?" FP looks amused that somebody managed to get Gladys to come to Riverdale. More than once too."I'm guessing her visits have something to do with a very charming and persuasive blonde teenage girl? At least that's what your sister had to say."
"Ya Betty went to Toledo and somehow convinced them to come to the trial. She also called mom and convinced her to visit me in the hospital."
“The Betty Cooper Charm. How is Betty? I haven’t seen her in a couple of weeks.”
“Did you know that she was my girlfriend?” Jughead watches his father's eyes carefully. “Ya I did.”
“God did literally everyone in this town know, but me?”
“Jughead you better be treating that girl right.”
“Do you think you of all people should be giving relationship advice dad?” A small smile escapes Jughead’s lips and FP returns the smile.
“No, but when you have a girl that special in your life, you hold onto her. I have made that mistake. Do not follow in my footsteps Jughead."
“Things are complicated.”
“You’re just like your old man in the sense that you like to push people away. You're nothing like me otherwise. You have a bright future ahead of you kid.” Jughead is shocked to hear such encouraging words from his father.
“Right I’ll keep that in mind.”
“Jughead that girl has gone to hell and back fighting for you over the past year. Give her some credit.”
“I know, I do. I have to keep reminding myself that she’s not mom.” Jughead can't believe that he is saying this out loud. Maybe it's because when his dad is sober, he is one of his favorite people to talk to. There is no alcohol behind bars.
“Betty Cooper doesn’t give up easily son. She is nothing like your mom and you are not me. I know it's a bit late for me to turn my life around, but it's not too late for you. You are worth so much more than the Southside than this town. Your writing is good son, you can go to college. Get out of this town. Stop punishing yourself the mistakes that your mother and I have made. We will be all right. You deserve better than this life Jug." FP says sadly. Jughead nods really taking in his dad's words.
"FP your lawyer is here," Sheriff Keller appears interrupting the father son bonding.
"We can talk again another time?" FP asks hopefully.
"Ya I'll come back next week." A wide smile appears on FP's face.
"I'll see you then. Say hi to Betty for me!"
_______________________________________________________________________ "What about this one?" Veronica holds up a dark purple to her body.
"Ya looks good."
"You have had the same unenthusiastic voice for every single that I have picked up for us. What is going on?"
"I just really want this dance to be over with."
"This dance is going to be different than the other ones." Betty has not had a good track record with dances this year. There are three dances every school year semi formal, homecoming, handspring fling. She worked up the courage to admit her feeling to Archie at Semi Formal and he rejected her. Homecoming was a shit show from start to finish. The ambush that was dinner had set the tone for the rest of the night. FP's arrest had overshadowed anything good that had happened that night. Now there is Spring Fling tomorrow night. Kevin is bringing a new boy that he met in Greendale last week, Veronica and Archie are obviously going together, and Cheryl is bringing Robby Miller. Betty is the only one in the group without a date.
"B I know you don't have a date but we could always go as a threesome again?"
"That worked out so well before." Betty laughs and Veronica smirks at her. "Thank you Veronica, but I'll manage on my own."
"Reggie did offer to be your date today." Betty shoots Veronica a less than amused glance."Reggie isn't that bad."
"He objectifies women like 24/7. I would spend the entire night listening to him make misogynistic comments about every girl that walks by."
"You know who hates Reggie Mantle?" An evil grin appears on Veronica's face. Betty knows exactly what trouble Veronica has up her sleeve.
"No I refuse to play any games. Jughead has been through enough, I am not going to attend the dance with a boy who has bullied him his entire life just to try and get his attention." Betty looks around horrified as she realizes that she has raised her voice. She releases her fingernails from her palms controlling her anger.
Betty rushes out of the store embarrassed into the crowded mall. She bites back tears as she runs straight for the food court.
She sits down at a table staring down at her bloody palms. Betty grabs some napkins from the table and wipes off her palms. She thought this new medication would stop her anxiety, but she is still worried all of the time. Granted she has just started this new medication, but she just dug her nails into her palm again.
"Fuck Betty why do you have to be so damn athletic?" Veronica arrives at the table out of breath."I need to sit down." Veronica sits across from Betty panting.
"I am sorry for running off."
"No you have nothing to be sorry for. I am sorry Betty I didn't mean to get you worked up."
"Jughead came over to my house."
"When?"
"Several days ago."
"What happened?"
"He had questions and I answered them. It was going fine at first, but then it got really heated. Didn't help that I was on my period and started crying like an idiot."
"Boys never know what to do around crying girls. And girls never do well with their emotions during their time of the month aka me the day Jughead got attacked." A clear picture of Veronica screaming at Archie in his room make it's way into Betty's brain. She now knows to never mess with Veronica during her time of the month.
"I told him that he can make whatever decision he wants about being with me, but he has to break up with me."
"What happened?" Veronica is on the edge of her seat.
"He didn't give me an answer. He still hasn't. I have just been sitting around waiting for him to end it."
"He wouldn't dare."
"It's definitely over Veronica. I know it is." Betty wipes her eye quickly hoping that Veronica won't notice the tears.
"Oh Betty." Veronica quickly moves into the chair next to her and wraps her arms around her best friend.
"I am so sick of crying. I am done feeling this way. I am just done. He just needs to finish this all ready. This is torture." It feels good to admit her insecurities out loud. She is so desperately in love with him. She has no idea what he's thinking. He has been making her wait to hear whether he wants to be with her or not and it's horrible. There are small moments where she feels hope, that by some miracle Jughead will appear and tell her that they're gonna make it work. She knows better. She is not ready to move on, but she will at least be able to try if he just lets her go.
Veronica pulls her phone out of her designer purse. She pulls up something on her phone. She turns her phone around to show Betty. It is a picture taken during her birthday celebration at her house. Betty is standing with Jughead with their ams around each other in front of her decorated entry way. Betty is looking up at him with an obvious loving grin on her face. Jughead is looking down at her with the same look. Betty's heart is doing backflips just looking at the photo.
"This is far from a platonic photo. You two will find your way back to each other I know it." Even when Betty gives up, she knows that Veronica Lodge never will.
"Maybe."
"How about we get a soft pretzel covered in lots of salt and butter." Betty's face lights up. She can hear her mother disapproving in the back of her head.
"That may be the best idea you've ever had. Besides I need some fuel if we're going to pick out the perfect dresses for the dance."
"That's my girl."
Veronica links their arms as they cheerfully head for the pretzel stand in the food court. _______________________________________________________________________ There is a knock at the garage door. Jughead sighs not really wanting company at the moment. He stares back at his laptop at the picture of him and Betty in the Cooper's entry way. She is wearing a silver dress with her down. Jughead can tell that he has a genuine happy smile on his face with arms slung around the waist of the beautiful blonde. Her green eyes reflect the same shine that are in his bright blue eyes. They look so happy.
The door opens anyways."Jughead?" He doesn't respond as Archie walks into the room. "We need to squash this." Jughead puts his laptop aside ready to listen to what he has to say."You understand why I didn't say anything?"
"I guess."
"What happened between you and Betty this year is none of my business. Yes you two were in a relationship, but it just didn't feel like my place to tell you."
"I get it."
"Really?"
"Ya. You were caught in the middle. Betty wanted our relationship to be a secret. As her friend you and Veronica, and Kevin didn't want to say anything. Instead everyone teased me as if I had a one sided crush on her."
"We were just trying to give you a push in the right direction. Jughead you are my best friend, my brother. I am sorry about lying to you. I am sorry about this entire year. Is there anyway we can move on?" Archie and his family have continuously fought for him. They have sheltered him and now adopted him. Jughead feels a pang of guilt in his stomach as he realizes how much Betty has done for him as well. Why is forgiving Archie so much easier?
"Ya we're good." Archie holds out his hand and Jughead shakes it.
"Any updates on Betty?" Archie asks awkwardly.
"Ya I know what I need to do." Jughead answers vaguely. Archie nods understanding that Jughead does not want to talk about it any further.
"Are you down for a game of COD?"
"Ya let's go play."
_______________________________________________________________________
Jughead walks into the living room where Veronica and Archie are making out on the couch. Do they realize he even lives there?
Jughead clears his throat to make his presence known. The two lovebirds pulls away from each other.
"Don't be jealous Jughead this could be you right now with a certain someone next door if you weren't such an idiot."
"Veronica!" Archie warns her.
"You know Reggie asked her to the dance."
"That's cool." Jughead knew that he was more than obvious with his answer.
"Green is not your color Jones." He is not surprised that Reggie asked her. Betty is a beautiful girl. He sees the way other guys look at her."Ugh why are men so stupid?"
"That is quite a generalization."
"She wouldn't do it because of you. She doesn't want to make you jealous or upset. Betty is by far the prettiest girl in this town. She is literally a walking Barbie doll and you have her in the palm of your hands, yet you are still sitting here sulking."
"My relationship is my business."
"My best friend is my business. You are torturing her. Grow some balls and tell her what you want." Veronica storms off upstairs. Archie shrugs and follows her. _______________________________________________________________________ "Do you think this looks okay?" Betty flattens out her dark blue gown. She looks at herself in the mirror nervously. She adjusts her hair so that the curls in her hair are resting on her shoulder.
"I love this dress on you. You look beautiful B." Betty smiles at her appearance. She feels like a princess. Veronica had come over a few hours early so that the two girls could do each other's makeup for the dance.
"Thanks V. You are a smoke show as always." Veronica sits at Betty's vanity wearing a dark purple gown with a high slit.
"I have to keep up with my beautiful best friend somehow." Betty smiles as she rolls her eyes at the compliment.
"Are you sure this isn't too tight?" Betty is used to wearing flowy gowns. This gown is tighter than anything she has worn before. Veronica insists that it hugs her curves in all of the right places. Betty even borrowed one of Polly's darker lipsticks for the night. Maybe the change is good.
"Not tight enough."
"What time is it?" Veronica picks up her phone.
"6:00."
"I need to get going. I have to do a final walk through before everyone arrives."
"Ugh are we not getting any pictures tonight B?"
"We can take as many as you want at school. Have fun getting ready."
"You owe me a photo shoot and save me a dance."
"You got it." ____________________________________________________ "Thanks for showing up early Betty. The last minute changes look great." Ethel joins Betty at the snack table.
"Thanks Ethel. Oh look who just got here." Ethel turns around to see Dilton Doiley walking inside of the gym. She turns back to Betty with a bright red face."You should ask him to dance."
"Oh no it's okay."
"Don't freak out, but he's coming right over."
"What?"
"Hey Ethel, hey Betty."
"Hi Dilton." Betty watches Ethel's nervous face and Dilton's shaking hands. She smiles as she realizes the potential of a possible romance.
"Ethel was just saying how nice your tie looks."
"I was?" Ethel looks at Betty curiously. Betty maintains the smile on her face. Ethel and Betty both notice Dilton blush.
"Yes and I agree it looks nice." Betty says politely.
"Thank you ladies you both look beautiful. I was just coming over here to see if you would like to dance Ethel?" Ethel looks up at Dilton stunned. Betty puts her hands together in excitement as she watches the two.
"Me?" Ethel asks stunned.
"I don't know any other Ethel's." Dilton holds out his hand and Ethel takes it happily. The two lovebirds walk away. Still surprised Ethel turns around to Betty. Betty gives her an enthusiastic thumbs up.
Betty can't it, she is a hopeless romantic. The dance is called Spring Fling and every year a lot of flings and relationships begin at this dance. Maybe it will work out with Kevin and his new guy tonight. He deserves it.
Betty walks away from the dance floor as she slowly sways on the side of the gym. She watches as people happily dance.
"Elizabeth." A very hyper Kevin Keller sneaks up on her picking her up. Betty squeals in surprise.
"Kevin you scared me!" Kevin puts Betty down and she smells the vodka immediately."Are you guys all late because you were pre drinking?"
"Maybe." Kevin pulls a flask out of his suit.
"Kevin you bad boy."
"Maybe my date will punish me later." Betty's eyes widen in amusement at Kevin's comment. He holds the flask out to her.
"No thanks. I am going to stay away from alcohol tonight."
"More for me." Kevin takes another pull of his flask.
"Where's your date?" Betty asks curiously.
"Good question I ran straight to you."
Betty looks around for any sign of their other friends.
"Betty." Veronica runs up and hugs her. Archie trailing behind her.
"Are you all drunk?"
"We're just a little bit tipsy." Veronica giggles.
"Hey Betty you look very nice."
"Thank you Archie, so do you."
"Pictures now!" Veronica instructs.
Betty and Veronica pose for several pictures as Archie takes them.
"Did you think you could take pictures without me." Cheryl appears wearing a stunning gown in her signature red color.
"I thought this picture was missing a little red." The girls pose for more pictures.
"Are they good Archiekins?" Archie shrugs. Veronica rolls her eyes and turns to Betty. A huge smile forms on her face.
"What?" Betty asks a bit concerned about how long she is looking at her with that smile on her face.
"I can't tell you. Archie made me swear."
"Well now you have to tell me."
"Ronnie," Archie interrupts,"Come dance with me." Betty smiles at Veronica.
"Go dance with your man V." Veronica allows herself to be whisked off by Archie onto the dance floor.
"Oh Betty this is my date Ben."
"Hi Ben it's so nice to meet you." Ben holds out his hand and Betty takes it happily."Take care of my boy tonight." Betty puts her arm around Kevin. Kevin hugs her.
"This is my best friend Betty Cooper. She has legs that rival Blake Lively’s."
"Yes you told me six times on the car ride over here." The group all laugh at Kevin's clear intoxication.
"Oh my god!" Kevin says dramatically.
"What?" Betty follows his eyes. All of a sudden Betty can't breathe. Her dress feels like it's suffocating her body. She freezes as she looks at the entrance to the gym.
Jughead Jones is standing there in a suit, no beanie scanning the room. His hands are in his pockets."What is he doing here?" Betty turns to see that Kevin and Ben are now gone, she is standing by herself.
Betty begins to march over to the entrance of the gym, but she is quickly cut of by a tall jock."Wow Betty Cooper that is quite the dress."
"Thank you Reggie." Betty tries to stand up on her tip toes to peak at Jughead over Reggie's shoulders. He is still in the same spot looking around the room. She can barely see him. Ugh why does Reggie have to be so tall? Even on her tip toes in high heels she can barely see over him.
"I saw your ass in that dress and I couldn't resist coming over. You're saving me a dance right?" Oh Reggie always a gentleman. Reggie is not moving out of her way quite yet. Betty holds her crossed fingers up in the air. She notice out of the corner of her eye Josie McCoy standing by herself. Betty cupid Cooper round two.
"You should go ask Josie. I heard she thinks you're cute."
"Of course she does." Reggie says smug.
"Reggie." Betty feels shockwaves go through her entire system as she hears his familiar voice.
"Jughead Jones. No beanie tonight?"
"Not tonight sorry to disappoint Reggie."
"I was just telling Betty how good her ass looks in that dress." Betty looks over at Jughead nervously. Jughead has spent his life getting bullied and taunted by guys like Reggie. Jughead avoids him at all costs. She can't believe that he is standing here right now with her and Reggie.
"And I was just telling Reggie to go ask Josie to dance."
"I think that's a great idea."
"One day you'll give in Betty Cooper." Never in a million years.
"Bye Reggie." Betty gives him a sassy wave.
Betty's heart is pounding like crazy as she turns to face Jughead. He has a curl hanging in front of his face that she is so tempted touch.
"Do you want to dance?" Jughead breaks the silence. Betty nods.
They silently walk to the dance floor. Betty notices Archie and Veronica staring at them intently. That's why Veronica was just being so weird. Veronica winks at her and Betty can see Archie smiling them giving his approval.
The music slows down as soon as they get there. Betty smiles shyly putting her hands on Jughead's shoulders. Jughead puts his hands on her hips sending electricity through her body. Betty is not sure how close he is comfortable with them being.
She can't stop herself from thinking out loud.
"What are you thinking?"
"That you are the most beautiful girl in the world." Jughead looks away from her nervously blushing. Betty blushes and her eyes become glossy.
"You're not so bad looking yourself." Betty cannot resist the urge to run her fingers through his black hair. She pulls him in tighter. She no longer has any restraint. She puts her head onto his neck.
"Juggie before I get my hopes up, please let me know if this a good or bad visit?" Betty doesn't look up because she is too afraid. This is it.
"Betty." Damnit. Jughead and Betty release each other at their intruder. Principal Weatherbee is staring at them with judgmental eyes. "We need you to introduce the Pussycats."
"Okay." She takes one last glance at Jughead before running up to the stage.
Betty walks up onto the stage still feeling shaken up from the previous moment.
Jughead watches Betty walk away towards the stage. He exhales a huge breath that he didn't even know that he had been holding in. He is way more nervous than he thought he would be. She is so beautiful. He didn't know what he expected when he showed up at the dance.
The thought of Betty Cooper at the dance alone broke his heart. He wanted to be here for her. He always want to be there for her. It is time to get back properly.
Then he saw her talking with Reggie and his temporary confidence was gone. She threw her crossed fingers up and he mustered up a bit of confidence. At least enough to face Reggie. He knows that Betty is much better than Reggie Mantle. She wouldn't fall for that.
Jughead rushes off to the bathroom needing to cool down for a moment.
He needs to gather his thoughts and remember exactly what he wants to say to her. He was so ready to just blurt out a speech about how much he loves her. Then he saw how her blue dress hugs every curve on her body perfectly, her hair is down and clipped back revealing her face, and her lipstick is a bit darker than usual making her lips stick right out more than ever.
Her beauty is so intimidating, but he needs to man up.
"I hope everybody is having a good time! Let's keep the party going with Riverdale High's very own Josie and The Pussycats." The crowd cheers. President Weatherbee gives Betty a smile of approval as Betty walks off the stage.
"Thank you Betty."
Betty searches through the crowd for Jughead, but doesn't see him. Betty spots Veronica, Archie, Kevin, and his date Ben in the corner not so discretely drinking out of their flasks. Panic begins to spread across Betty's body. He's gone. He left.
Betty sprints out of the gym ready to go find him. He cannot just show up at the dance and then leave just like that.
She runs through the entrance of the high school outside. She looks around on the stairs helpless as she doesn't see any sign of the raven haired boy. This sick feeling of deja vu of when she helplessly watched Jughead run off after learning of his father's arrest.
Betty collapses onto the ground in defeat.
"Betty?" She snaps her head up quickly turning around to see Jughead standing behind up. She somehow regains her strength as she leaps up to her feet.
"What are you doing outside?"
"I couldn't find you. I thought- I thought that you left."
"I just went to the bathroom quickly. That was a stupid move, I am sorry Betty." Betty stares at him nervously, her entire body shaking.
"Are you here to tell me it's over?" Betty stares at him with fear in her eyes."I am a big girl, I can take it Jug. I can handle it, just please tell m-"
She is cut off by his lips pressing against hers. The kiss is gentle, but quickly turns rough. Lots of lost time is put into this kiss as Betty kisses him like it's the last time she'll ever taste him again.
Jughead pulls away and Betty wants to pull him in again. She looks at his swollen lips as he catches his breath.
"Can I speak now?" Betty nods speechless."It was never about that I didn't want you to be my girlfriend. I just couldn't believe it! I still can't believe that you're my girlfriend because I've been in love with you since the day that you defended my honor to Chuck Clayton in the cafeteria on the first day of Kindergarten. I have silently been in love with you for years and I just never had the courage to do anything about it. Betty you are the most beautiful person I know, inside and out. The things you have done for me, I don't know how I'll ever be able to thank you. I just had a hard time believing that I deserve somebody as amazing as you. Reading your diaries just felt like such an out of body experience. It felt like an alternate dream land, but I know it's real. I am an idiot if I let you get away without fighting for you. So I am here to say that I want to fight for you Betty, fight for us."
Betty cannot stop the tears from flowing out her eyes. The good kind of tears. She doesn't even consider making him squirm. She has waited so long for this moment. She wraps her arms around his neck.
"You don't know how amazing it is to hear you say this."
"I am sorry it took me so long." Betty shakes her head leaning in closer to Jughead.
"You came back to me that's all that matter." Betty closes the gap between them kissing him again. Betty smiles as he wraps his arms around her.
Jughead pulls away and looks down at her.
"I'll always come back to you. I love you Betty Cooper." Betty's heart flutters, her entire body is filled with warmth.
"I love you Jughead Jones."
"Do you want to go inside and dance for a bit? The least I can do is let you have one good dance this year." This is the best night ever.
Jughead puts his arm around Betty as he leads her inside.
"I still owe you a burger." Betty says excitedly.
"We can take care of that after the dance."
"It's a date."
"Reggie was right about one thing, your ass does look amazing in that dress. Along with the rest of your body of course." Betty blushes as she leans up to kiss him. She teases him by moving his hand quickly over her ass before they enter the gym.

                                     A  GOSSIP  GIRL  VERSE
SAMUEL ‘SAM’  EVANS / ST. JUDE’S SCHOOL FOR BOYS / AGE: 17-18 / EXTRACURRICULARS: SOCCER, CROSS COUNTRY
THE PAUPER AND THE... WELL, MIDDLE CLASS HOTTIE?
Private school had never been foremost in Sam’s plans. He’s a Queens native, who grew up in a loft apartment in an old building that constantly needed adjustments to its piping system. Mr. Evans was a small-time contractor, who made enough money to keep his family afloat, and his mother a teacher at the public school he gladly attended every week. He had friends, he was liked, he was comfortable living the life he was used to. Though he wasn’t an A student, he kept his grades at an acceptable B+ average, enough to secure him a spot in any college that was not an ivy league – he was never interested in the prestigious universities people constantly talked about. Surely Sam could secure a shiny football scholarship, trusting his athletic ability to lead him places, but not relying wholeheartedly on it.
Work was never a subject of debate in the Evans household, in fact, they were happy. His parents got along, his siblings were happy at their kindergarten class, and he was on the right track to build a future for himself. It wasn’t until his dad lost his job that things started changing at home – his parents argued, he constantly found himself taking Stevie and Stacy on a walk to avoid them being caught in between an argument. Sam would hold their hands and buy them ice cream from the vendor down the street, and he’d come back half an hour later to a strange, eerie calm at home. It kept his siblings sane, even though he was aware of what was going on, and what was bound to happen.
They were living off scraps, could barely afford necessities like water, power, and cable, forcing Sam to find a temporary job to help at home. He learned to make coffee just as quickly as he learned how to avoid the topic with his little siblings. Whenever his mom couldn’t meet the power bill, when they were short on groceries, when the TV got busted, he’d step up and willingly give his minimum wage pay to help his mother while his job searched for a job. He could lose his friends, lose his extracurriculars, his grades, but he wouldn’t let his mom lose her dignity. His mother worried Sam would spiral into a depression, even though he tried to remain chirpy and optimistic for his family’s sake, bringing the paper every afternoon after school to make sure his dad had every means to find an opening anywhere in his field. His job at the small, urban coffee shop a few blocks away from his home was time consuming, but enough to help keep that sliver of optimism everyone needed.
His father's unexpected find came as a blessing to the Evans family, but it also came with life changes. Moving to Brooklyn, for one – though not much different from Queens – to a new apartment building, new places, new people, and new surroundings to get used to, as well as a whole new pool of customs and Sam’s sudden clash with the Upper East Side. His father, wanting Sam to have the best education possible (and make sure he’d never go through the same thing with his family as they had), negotiated a sports scholarship at St. Judes School for Boys, with the promise that he’d balance his extracurriculars, enroll in sports, and keep a B+ average through his now permanent stay.
The weight of his part time, minimum wage job didn’t seem half as stressful as Sam’s new responsibility – making his dad proud and balancing the dire consequences of enrolling in a private school where trust fund kids had more authority than the people in charge. Gossip girl – the anonymous gossip charged blog he swears to never meddle with – was sure to somehow, someday, find out about his family’s struggles, which is why he chooses to remain as anonymous as possible, making sure to steer clear from scandals and people who would only put him in the spotlight (though that was easier said than done).
A  SCOOP  IS  A  SCOOP
The Evans family owns a dog named Floyd, a German Shephard/Border Collie mix who was trained by Sam and his dad, fiercely protective of his mom and his siblings, and doesn’t leave Sam’s side whenever they go on long walks. Sometimes he picks Stevie and Stacy up from school with Bono tagging along.
Sam is dyslexic and must work twice as hard to keep up with the new expectations bestowed upon him by St. Jude’s. Classes are harder and extracurriculars are tougher, but he’s made it his mission to become captain of the soccer team before his senior year, therefore doesn’t have time for his real passion: music.
He never spends more money than necessary, hardly asks for money to go out with his new friends because he doesn’t want his family to go through tough times again. A good portion of the allowance his parents give him he saves for his siblings, to buy them things they need or occasionally, distract them with their weekly ice cream trips.
He’s only been on gossip girl once, when he transferred and so far, has been proficient at staying under the radar, and hopes to keep it that way.
Anxiety and panic are common and keeps it a secret from his family. He claims he doesn’t want them to worry any more than they need to and despite how anxious he feels about not meeting the necessary expectations, he tries to remain positive. After all, he’s known for his vibrant optimism in the face of adversity, and wants Stevie and Stacy to follow his example in the future.
KEEP  YOUR  FRIENDS  CLOSE AND  YOUR  ENEMIES  CLOSER
Jenny Humphrey: One of Sam’s closer friends, especially because of what their families have in common. He stays clear of her brother Dan, who thinks he has ulterior motives, and doesn’t know why he brings out unwarranted panic in him.
Nate Archibald: Teammate and friend. They’re not exactly super close, but he’s one of the few people with an obscene amount of money he could trust, though his constant presence on gossip girl makes him uneasy. Sam however, promises to judge for himself instead of letting a blog dictate his opinion.
Stevie and Stacy: Sam’s younger siblings, they attend public school in the upper east side until they’re old enough to enroll in Constance and St. Judes if his dad can negotiate a scholarship (and still has his job). He would do anything and everything to make sure they’re happy.
Penelope Shafia: Asked him to set her up with Nate once. He forgot and now seems to be her bullying target, though Sam is great at ignoring her. He wouldn’t call her out publicly out of fear of falling unwillingly into the spotlight.

LIVE Transfer Talk: Chelsea, Bayern, Atleti circling Inter's Barella

The January transfer window may seem like a distant memory, but that doesn’t mean the rumour mill has shut down! Speculation over summer moves is heating up, so check out the latest gossip below, and see all official deals here.
TOP STORY: Barella blow for Euro trio
Several European giants have been dealt blows in a bid for midfielder Nicolo Barella as Internazionale have reportedly declared they have no interest in letting him leave this summer. Calciomercato writes that Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich both have an interest in the player, while the Sun adds that Chelsea have also been monitoring the 24-year-old ahead of a potential move to Stamford Bridge.

It is said that a new contract will be offered in the near future with a major pay rise if he agrees to stay at the San Siro. Inter reportedly wouldn’t consider parting with the box-to-box star for anything less than £52 million, but there will be some urgency to agree a new deal before the European Championship this summer, where the midfielder may attract more transfer interest should he perform well for Roberto Mancini’s side.
The San Siro outfit are keen to keep a hold of the Italy international because of the impact he has had since joining from Cagliari in 2019. The performances on the pitch have helped drive their efforts for a first Serie A title in 11 years under former Chelsea and Juventus boss Antonio Conte, making 29 appearances this season, chipping in with three goals and six assists too.

08.00 BST: Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembele has revealed that he is yet to open talsk with the club over a new contract.
Dembele, 23, has little over a year remaining on his current deal, which expires at the end of next season.
The France international has often struggled with injuries and form since signing from Borusiss Dortmund in 2017, but has been enjoying some of his most consistent form at Barca this season.
Dembele told beIN Sports: “There are still no talks over a renewal, but I feel good.”
PAPER GOSSIP (by Nick Judd)
– Fulham, Watford and Swansea City are reportedly interested in signing Sheffield United centre-back Kean Bryan, according to the Sun. The 24-year-old defender is out of contract in the summer, but the Blades are making an attempt to keep the former Manchester City man. Watford are said to be in pole position to sign the former England U20 international, offering him potential Premier League football as they look to replace the outgoing Craig Dawson.
– Premier League sides are said to be taking an interest in AC Milan’s Franck Kessie, reports Calciomercato. The story suggests that the 24-year-old is in a stalemate with Milan over a new contract, with the Ivory Coast international having a year remaining on his deal and English clubs monitoring the current situation before a potential battle for his signature.
– Crystal Palace are looking to sign former Newcastle United winger Florian Thauvin from Marseille but face competition from AC Milan, according to the Sun. The 28-year-old is a free agent in the summer, but his desired £6m annual wage is stopping the south London club from finishing a pre-contract agreement with the player. Thauvin is reportedly Palace’s second-choice signing in that area, with Watford winger Ismaila Sarr becoming an unrealistic option for the Eagles.
– Chelsea are preparing to receive offers from AC Milan for on-loan defender Fikayo Tomori in the upcoming transfer window, the Sun writes. The Italian side have an option to make the 23-year-old’s loan permanent, but because of the pandemic, the Rossoneri are said to be looking to save on the agreed £25m figure.
– Manchester United are said to be keeping an eye on defender Pau Torres this summer, reports AS. The 24-year-old has attracted attention of a few sides in Europe, with Manchester City rumoured to be close to signing him last season. This time it is their neighbours who have been looking at the Villarreal man. The Spanish club are said to be unwilling to negotiate a fee but rather sit and wait for a side to trigger his €50m release clause that rises to €65m in the last 15 days of a transfer window.

Transfer news live: Arsenal chase £17m Barcelona winger as Monaco disappoint Liverpool and Chelsea on Thomas Lemar
2 hours ago
Manchester United’s EFL Cup defeat to Bristol City has caused Jose Mourinho to re-assess his transfer plans, as he has become more concerned about his squad’s depth.
While it had been the case that the club’s funds would be limited this January, with maybe only a left-back like Alex Sandro targeted,The Independent has been told that the Portuguese is now pushing for more signings.
Mourinho was critical of a largely second-string side after the dramatic defeat at Ashton Gate on Wednesday, albeit without naming players directly, and it is understood he now wants to bolster his options while preferably making sales.

Liverpool will go in for Monaco's £90m-rated Thomas Lemar in January, as they attempt to bolster their chances of securing a top-four spot, and beat Arsenal to the French international's signature Jürgen Klopp has a longstanding interest in the 22-year-old forward, and the belief at Anfield is that his first choice is Liverpool, even though Arsenal came close to signing him in August.

Antonio Conte says he anticipates Chelsea doing business in January, with The Independent understanding that his main target is the type of forward player who can operate in a few positions across the front line.
The Italian is more content with his squad than in September - and again mentioned the progress of 17-year-old Ethan Ampadu - but says they will buy if the right deal becomes available. He also stated he still wants to improve the depth of his squad.
“A difficult period is starting, especially for every club, for every coach. In this period there are a lot of rumours. Some rumours are true. Some rumours are wrong. We must be ready to face this situation. I think the best way for me is not to read and only talk with the club, and then to try to improve our squad if this is possible. If, I repeat, this is possible.
“But there will be a lot of rumours now. We must be ready to face them while, at the same time, be ready to be focused and go game by game. We play every three days, so it's not right that these rumours disturb us.”

Manchester City’s main transfer target this January will be a centre-half, with Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk currently the top option, although the club also want to sign a number-six and a forward - still likely Alexis Sanchez - over the next six months. Both Pep Guardiola and director of football Txiki Begiristain met with chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak when the latter flew in at the weekend, sitting ahead of the 4-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur to talk about the next 18 months of planning. While their ongoing interest in Sanchez was discussed, it is understood that Guardiola is now no longer so intent on signing the Chilean this season, as he is content with the chemistry and integration of his attack.

We reported yesterday that Basel defender Manuel Akanji is subject to interest from both Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund. The German side are pushing hard for a deal to be done in January, but the Swiss club want to keep the 22-year-old for the rest of the campaign, the paper said.
