This was by far the biggest challenge and the biggest fun to make. I wanted to do these girls justice, because as we all know, the film costumes were atrocious. BUT, I want to say that just because Parvati and Padma have Indian heritage, it does not mean they would wear a sari to the Yule Ball. In the books, they wore robes with gold bracelets (read: bangles). So, I explored different options for their dress robes. I imagined they received the dress robes in the post by their mum. And she had lovingly put the outfits together for her girls, passing on jewellery that had been in the family for generations, finding their new homes with the twins. Bangles and hair clips and necklaces and earrings. Gorgeous pieces they wore at the ball with pride.

Final note: hot pink and turquoise are not exactly my favourite colours to work with. So, that too, was a challenge. I’ll be happy to leave the pinks, purples and turquoises with lavender and the Patil twins for now :)

That extra little WQ seals the deal for me, and made me not only clear Cyno's SQ 2 which has been sitting in my backlog due to burnout but also replay Kaveh's hangout while I'm at it.

Anyways, I guess it's time I actually share these Sabzerus festival designs I made ages ago? Starting with the birthday girl herself and her funny hat(less) man. I feel like it's an atrocity that nobody actually wears Indian traditional dress in this game, and I also put Hat Guy in one to even out the roster. Making the embroidery patterns may have killed my hand but I persevered.

Nahida's design is a game of "how many times can I draw the Dendro symbol without repeating it too obviously"

Her lehenga choli is inspired by a beautiful white and dark green set I saw on Google. My Indian friend advised to not make her outfit too predominantly white, so I made sure the dupatta is dark green and added darker borders. Honestly, Nahida would look so much better if her outfit isn't almost entirely white!

The patterns on her skirt include lotuses, vajras, and the upside-down Dendro symbol. Her jewelry are made of gold, emeralds (rejuvenation, harmony), white diamonds (strength), and pearls (elegance, grace, purity, wisdom, the Moon).

Wanderer's sherwani pattern is a lotus pattern I made myself :) It is rather heavy, but the dupatta is made of fine silk.

His bracelets are based on Buddhist prayer beads (right hand) and a kangan (ornate, heavy bangle type). The same Indian friend suggested it to me because bangles represent "delicateness" and aren't often on men, but he does canonically have a history of wearing feminine articles i.e. his veil as the Kabukimono, so I incorporated it.

His jewelry are made of gold and turquoise. His sherwani is sapphire-colored (wisdom, intuition, mental clarity).

While Nahida does have ghanta imagery on her canon outfit, I decided to emphasize the vajra on her design, and the ghanta on Wanderer's design i.e. his neck accessory. They're an inseparable, matching set.

Having an apologetically Indian woman as a spiderwoman. She will also neutralise the spiderman-spiderwoman ratio in the arachni-kids team. The usual juggling of life parts as teenage girl, spiderwoman, and teen model.

Adding the fact that she’s the second ever Gwen Stacy variant to become a spider instead of dying, she and Gwen will have the weirdest, most delicious and complex relationship ever.

Her design would be so good, her suit would a mashup of spider suit and Indian sari, with more Desi elements of course (gold, bangles, bindi, etc).

Experiencing the same existential horrors of being Gwen Stacy, with the added racial and cultural aspects into it.

what does it even matter? it’s not as though he is even himself half of the time. an ever-shifting face to versions of himself across the multiverse

It’s almost too easy to find perfect, solid gold replicas of one of the world’s most famous bracelets. The same goes for Southeast Asia, I know several excellent jewellery merchants in Indonesia and Malaysia who do amazing replicas and fantasy pieces from all the big houses. What I will say is that gold is soft, and scratches easily—genuine Love Bracelets notoriously scratch like hell, and all the solid gold replicas I’ve seen have scratched equally as badly.

I personally think that, unless you’re in pursuit of 1:1 perfection, then you’re better off buying stainless steel from China. It won’t scratch as much, and it’s cheap. There are two factories producing the largest proportion of replica Love Bracelets in China, and they both make at what I’d consider to be a low-mid tier, the interior details of the bracelets are incorrect and the screws are set too deep, but unless you take it off and show it to people who have an eye for jewellery and the authentic bracelet on hand for reference, nobody is going to call you out. There’s no point, in my view, in paying hundreds for 18k Chinese reps when you could contact an Indonesian or Indian or Emirati merchant and have the same thing for much less, and there’s no point in buying mid-tier through WhatsApp sellers when they source from exactly the same factories as DHGate and AliExpress. I’d drop links but they’d expire quickly anyway, so just go on AliExpress, find yourself a jewellery seller with over a 97% approval rating and reviews with photographs, message the shop and ask for real photos before you buy, pay like £25 max for your bracelet and go off on your merry way.
