"Back when you first came into my life, I recalled a place that I knew as a child A special place One that I held close to my heart Won’t you lead me in a dance down this winding road where light and shadow entwine to take hold of the thoughts of the one left far behind? Know that, sometimes, I want to turn around and see the things that I’ve passed on the journey, but know with love on my side, with courage and pride, I’ll fight I will carry on"

I never understood WHY during the Black Star arc in Dragon Ball GT they didn’t think of bringing Vegeta along on their space travels considering he is LITERALLY the only character among the Z Fighters who has actual experience out in space. He’s lived and traveled throughout outer space for the first 30 years of his life!
Unless they did explain why and I just didn’t listen cause the first arc in GT was boring af I just wanted to get to the Baby arc.

Parenting styles in Dragon Ball Z (and Super)
You know, to me, the interesting thing about this scene (and the one where they could to the aforementioned park) isn't the fact that Vegeta keeps his promise.
Tumblr media
It's the fact that he uses positive reinforcement to motivate Trunks.
Do you think Vegeta was ever rewarded for landing a good hit? Definitely not. It was expected of him.
As an expert in children's development, I find it fascinating to look at this example of Vegeta parenting Trunks and what it says about his parenting style. I've seen headcanons that go from calling 'Dadgeta' authoritarian to neglectful, but I disagree.
In the following, I will briefly describe the four styles of parenting with focus on the authoritarian and the authoritative styles. I'll also compare them to how DBZ parents appear to raise their children, but mainly focus on Vegeta.
Authoritarian:
This is the old school parenting method where restrictions and punishments go hand in hand. The parents expect the children to obey rules without a clear explanation as to why and corporal punishment is used when the children overstep.
Unsurprisingly, it seems like a lot of people believe this is how Vegeta raises his children (If he is even involved; I'll address this later on.) It was likely how he was raised.
However, the only parent we actually see using this style is Chichi. She's not entirely unreasonable, but we do see her expect things from Gohan without explanations and she has a lot of restrictions set up. This might have something to do with Goku's parenting style, but more on that later.
Piccolo also uses authoritarianism with Gohan, but he isn't trying to parent him, just train him.
What's really interesting is that children raised in a household practicing authoritarianism tend to hold a lot of anger inside. They also have low self-efficacy and high self blame. Remind you of someone?
Tumblr media
Indulgent
Here we see nurturing, accepting parents who don't have behavioral expectations of their children. They are responsive to the children's needs and wishes, but do not expect them to be the same toward other people. The parents want to be the child's friend rather than a demanding parent.
Children of indulgent parents tend to grow up without a sense of others' boundaries and generally have less discipline than their peers. They lack impulse control and are often irresponsible.
In DBZ we do see signs of this parenting style, but only limited. It's not commonly used in Asia and therefore, Toriyama didn't add it. In GT it's obvious that both Trunks and Bulla seem have been parenting this way by Bulma. It's also why many doubt that Vegeta has been much involved.
It's also easy to argue that Goku parents this way, although it's up for discussion.
Tumblr media
Neglectful
Although many think that the indulgent parenting style have created a generation of undisciplined young people, the neglectful parenting style has actually had a greater effect.
The parents are either more interested in themselves and their own goals than their children's. (Although sometimes it's because the parents struggle with stress or depression) Children of these parents are usually lonely and melancholic, often have very low self esteem and are needy after affection and approval. This leads them to be easily manipulated and they are at a higher risk to end up in abusive relationships.
I think many of the Vegeta antis and those claiming Goku is a bad parent would place the two Saiyans here.
However, Goku is clearly involved in Gohan's upbringing, albeit choosing a more casual approach than Chichi, and returns after being dead for seven years, ready to be involved with Goten (and Gohan if he wants it). The reason that Goku mainly focuses on training isn't just because it's his own interest. It's what he knows for sure how to do.
Most importantly: it was how Goku was raised himself. First by Grandpa Gohan and later from his other father figure, Master Roshi. It isn't just in his blood; it's in his upbringing.
Tumblr media
And then there's Vegeta’s parenting style which was my main focus for this post. It got a little out of control, but we have finally arrived at the last parenting style:
Authoritative
This is the most modern parenting style, even though it isn't really new. It's been used for years in well functioning familes. This type of parent is both demanding and nurturing, being present and engaged in their children's lives. They explain things to their children, teach them how to regulate their feelings and therefore expect a mature behavior from them.
Children of authoritative parents tend to be more successful in their adult lives, capable of discipline and well-liked. Because they aren't constantly being restricted, they naturally develope autonomy within set boundaries and learn to respect others, regardless of authority.
So, what does this have to do with Vegeta and Trunks?
As I mentioned in the beginning, in the scene in the Gravity Chamber, Vegeta uses positive reinforcement to motive Trunks. Positive reinforcement has proven to be a healthy way to motivate children (and animals) and is a part of the authoritative style. By using it, Vegeta provides Trunks with rules that foster motivation and discipline in the child. The fact that Vegeta knows about the amusement and can use it as an incentive also shows that he is involved enough to know what may get Trunks to do his best.
But the most important thing we see is that Vegeta upholds his promise, despite hating every second of it. It shows that he respects Trunks' efforts and achievement. By honoring his word, he also teaches Trunks to do the same.
Tumblr media
Of course, this is a small scene and we don't know how Vegeta behaves otherwise in regards to Trunks. But it's safe to say that Vegeta does take his son's wishes into account and uses it to encourage him to move beyond his limits.
I admit that I'm not a fan of GT and don't consider it canon, especially because of Toriyama's lack of involvement. So, while I dislike many aspects of DBS, I do think it's the best representation of the characters.
In Super, both Goten and Trunks are well adjusted boys who both have discipline and test the boundaries of their autonomy. They act like boys their age, albeit with incredibly strength, and it goes to show that their parents have raised them well.
Of course, it's also important to remember that both DBZ and DBS (and even GT) are a product of their time and the parenting styles reflect that. DBZ is from the 80's where the authoritarian (Chichi) and indulgent (Goku) styles were the most common. GT is from the 90's where the media started to focus on indulgent and neglectful parents - even though it wasn't a new thing - and it's shown that Trunks, Bulla and Goten have grown up as spoiled and undisciplined. DBS shows that the parents in the show have become authoritative and their children's behavior reflects that.
It's clear that the parents are doing their best and that the fathers have become more involved nowadays than before. This is the case in modern parenting as well.
Anyway, this is the end of my long rant. I think, as both an expert in children's development and as a parent myself, it's interesting to look into the relationships between the characters, especially the father-son interactions which are explored the most. There's no doubt that Toriyama knew the importance of being a father and wanted to portray it, mainly in Goku and Gohan's relationship.
I don't think Toriyama saw Goku nor Vegeta as bad fathers, but he knew that everyone has different strengths, even in parenthood.

Dragon Ball Daima S01E10 - Ocean
The titles for Daima episodes crack me up. Like. We've been making jokes at Toei's expense for how spoiler-filled Dragon Ball episode titles are for forty years. Now they're just like, "Fine! You know what? Every title is just a context-free noun and NOTHING ELSE."
Lightning. Thieves. Ocean.
Good luck gleaning any major plot reveals from that!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Honestly, I'm kinda rooting for the Tamagami.
They had two Saibaman seeds left and only used one, which leaves the other one hanging as a plot point whose function remains to be determined. The probable purpose for the other seed is so they'll have resources to create another Majin.
Kuu isn't literally the prototype for a bigger, nastier villain. But he might end up being exactly that.
So with the possibility that Kuu gets defeated and has to be replaced at some point in mind, I just think it'd be so funny if it happened right now. Following his dramatic reveal last episode, Kuu mouths off to Tamagami One and just gets fucking splattered, and Dr. Arinsu has to go back to the drawing board. XD
Tumblr media
I mean. Yeah. There are benefits to being magically cursed to become a child again. I certainly wouldn't mind a dramatically increased lifespan, personally.
There are drawbacks too but you'd be surprised what you can circumvent when you're a billionaire.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This conversation took a really weird turn. And also, there are other reasons that Vegeta might not be comfortable with returning to adulthood while his wife remains a child.
Very. Very good reasons.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I have no idea what Kuu is doing in this fight and I'm not sure he does either. One is handing him his golden Saiba-ass.
It's like they're trying to channel Pure Buu's unpredictable and frantic fighting style. But Buu was an eldritch creature that no longer communicated in words and fought like a feral blob of gum. Kuu's intelligence and... non-goopiness... just makes him look like a weird doof.
I wonder if Kuu can absorb the Tamagami and gain their power?
Tumblr media
Which should also mean that we can get out and fly for long periods of time without requiring the aid of a vehicle. Planes are now optional.
Tumblr media
Kaioshin: (thinking) I hope we can get in and out without encountering one. Goku: (thinking) I wonder how they taste....
Tumblr media
Goku: (thinking) Not bad for a first course....
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yeah, flying is no longer nerfed. This attack squadron made mistakes. The guy who beat the Tamagami is in even more top form now, and these idiots couldn't handle him when he was holding back.
Daimakai is basically a fun vacation for Goku.
Tumblr media
XD There is no way a creature that size is sustaining itself on the occasional plane that inadvisably flies too low to the ocean. They're definitely hunting planes out of spite, not hunger.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ahhh. Goku can teleport, so it doesn't actually matter that the plane is now in the creature's gullet. This is a good setup. Gives the others enough time to look shocked before Goku and Panzy suddenly pop into existe--
Tumblr media
...or I guess the gap between its teeth is wide enough that anyone capable of Bukujutsu can just leave, no problem. Being crushed in the plane was the only danger that being eaten by the kraken posed.
Mm. I'm disappointed, but this still works fine.
Tumblr media
And now the kraken's done. Yeah, it does not care one bit about the flying people. It just wanted the plane.
Krakens just... hate planes for some reason. I wonder if the Gendarmerie are poaching them?
Tumblr media
Bit of a mixed bag here. I said early on after we met her that I really don't want Panzy to turn into the new GT Pan. GT Pan is worse-case scenario for how she could end up being utilized by the show.
I was nervous when they all evacuated the plane, but then Panzy put herself in peril anyway so we could have a scene of Goku dramatically rescuing her. I was like, "Okay, whatever they made her go back for, it better be something good."
It was the Dragon Ball. All of these fuckers forgot the Dragon Ball when they were bailing out of the plane.
...
Yeah! Okay, fair enough. Panzy MVP and these boys better appreciate her.
Tumblr media
Oh, the Namekians had their own world within Makai #2. I bet it's more Namek-like than this region.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yep, I'd know those Ajissa anywhere.
You know, this does actually make sense, now that I think about it. It's a retcon, but not one that breaks continuity.
The main job that the Namekians have is to cultivate Ajissa. It's what they spend their days farming. Their crop fields are full of the Ajissa they're growing.
When we first meet the Namekians, it's in the aftermath of a climate crisis that ravaged their ecosystem and left them near extinction. They're cultivating Ajissa to try and restore Namek to the beauty it once had.
But it's just a hop, skip, and a jump from there to "Namekians terraform planets they occupy to resemble their ancestral home, and filling those planets with Ajissa is part of that terraforming."
Tumblr media
Did Piccolo just indicate that Katattsu came from Makai #2? All we know about him was that he was among the Namekians killed in Namek's climate catastrophe. How would Piccolo even know this? We've been given no timeframe on when Namekians left Makai #2.
Well, would it surprise you to know that he didn't actually say that? Yeah, at no point did he say it was his "father" who lived here.
...
Because the word he used is 親 oya, which gender-neutrally just means "parent". It's the root kanji used in such words as 母親 hahaoya for mother and 父親 chichioya for father.
...
My "Were Namekians supposed to be gender-neutral this whole time? Should we be using they/them for Namekians?" pondering intensifies.
But yeah, he did indicate that Katattsu used to live here.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Three, actually. But Hybis is not ready for that conversation. Even other Earthlings find it weird.
Tumblr media
I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop. But at least for right now, I like him. Kuu is adorable and I want good things for him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I've been back and forth on whether this is supposed to be in-continuity with Super but I think this backstory, despite sort of contradicting what we know about Zenou, confirms it.
The reason I say that is because that's Gowasu in the top left corner. He was the mentor that tried to teach Zamasu.
How exactly Rymus is supposed to coexist as a concept with Zenou, I have no idea. But I wouldn't be surprised if they're, like, Zenou's parent or something.
Tumblr media
I mean. I thought the plan was that you guys were going to go handle things with Gomah while Team Goku faces the Tamagami.
I guess we really did ditch Team Bulma in Makai #3 just to be rude. Oh well. Gang's all together now.

Vegeta and Nappa, why did Vegeta killed him.
One of my favorite characters of all time since i was a child is without a doubt Vegeta.
I've seen this question being asked constantly so i'll give my take one it now. I know many people don't like the "because Saiyans" type of explanation but one cannot ignore that their nature is much different from humans and is a great part of who they are and why they do the things they do. So my approach is usually try to see what of all that is actually because of their nature and what is just being used as a cultural shield, specially when it comes to both Vegeta and Goku. More Vegeta because he lies a lot as well, and despite being Saiyan his status as royalty changes the usual dynamic a bit compared to others of his own species. (note that i watched the latin version so my interpretation of the character might be different from that of the english one)
So regarding the topic:
Tumblr media
Realistically and sadly, as much as I like this alternate reality people usually like to portray of Nappa being Vegeta's assigned babysitter, taking care of Raditz as well, the three of them being like a small family unit given that they only had each other as survivors of their people's extinction... I think the reality is a lot more complicated.
Being a Saiyan, and more than that the strongest Saiyan by far in their recent history, even stronger than the King himself, Vegeta was capable of taking care of himself better than Nappa. He never saw Nappa as a protector because Vegeta was leagues ahead of Nappa in terms of strength and rank. We see that on the first Bardock movie where he treats Nappa as a servant, and even asks Frieza to let him go alone to a more challenging planet to conquer where he ends up killing everyone, sitting on a rock in the middle of a pile of corpses of his own making and eating twinkies or something as he was getting news of his Planet's destruction, thinking already what was going to be his next move and hiding his concern from Frieza's informant. All of that at the age of 5.
He never saw Nappa as akin to family because for as young as he was Vegeta was still his superior. Plus Vegeta considered himself smarter than him too, and he actually was even as a child. Vegeta was, on the contrary, protecting Nappa and Raditz, and consequently himself, against Frieza and his men by playing the long game while those two probably constantly screwed up and tried to engage in an unwinnable battle. This kid didn't had the opportunity to be a kid since he was born. Always on a minefield.
Tumblr media
As how I see it, the reason why Vegeta killed Nappa then wasn't only because Goku broke Nappa's spine and paralyzed him leaving him quadriplegic and unable to fight rendering him as dead weight, but because he was years long fed up with Nappa as well. Maybe even with what he represented as the last remains of the Saiyan kingdom and the past since he was perfectly comfortable being the last Saiyan alive as representation of what a true Saiyan was in his own understanding and values of it, considering himself the peak of that and the example for everyone else to see, which being a prince he was kinda always pressured into being that and thinking of himself as such anyways. And Nappa's embarrassing fight was the last drop and the perfect excuse to get rid of him. Dude couldn't fathom something so disgraceful that he preferred to kill him than keep enduring his presence any longer while pretending he cared (and the emotions were kinda running high).
Tumblr media
Even after in GT when he sees Nappa again there's nothing but contempt against him. And you could say anything about GT but what I appreciate greatly of it is the character consistency.
Note: I've been watching DB and Z and it's very clear from the moment they arrive to Earth that Vegeta can't with Nappa's recklessness. When Nappa destroys East city Vegeta is like 'dude, has it ever occur to you that the dragon balls could have been here? You idiot! Don't destroy the planet, we could sell it, don't be a stupid, think, fight better, concentrate, his not fighting intelligent... Lol, by the time of Nappa asking Vegeta for help I can totally imagine Vegeta was thinking 'you know what Nappa... FUCK YOU' *yeet!

No matter where this is being posted, it’s been a minute, hasn’t it? The long and short of it is that over the last few years, I went from having a job with a ton of downtime to jobs with varying degrees of less downtime, to one where I had downtime I couldn’t effectively use. Currently, my situation is one where sometimes I’ll have a lot of downtime I can effectively use. Anyway, absurdly late as it is, this is my tribute to one of my heroes as an artist, Akira Toriyama who passed nearly a year ago. Here’s a breakdown: In the first panel, we see a version of Goku who is intended to be the ultimate incarnation of him. I mixed elements of his clothing from Xeno Goku and Capsule Corp Goku (from Super Dragon Ball Heroes). He also wears the colors and symbol of Zeno from Dragon Ball Super. His hair is a mix of Super Saiyan 4 (from Dragon Ball GT) and Ultra Instinct (from Dragon Ball Super) with a hint of the colors from Zeno’s face. In the second panel we see the Toribot character that Toriyama used to represent himself in his works. Panel 3 shows the Toribot character revealing that he is Toriyama himself. Panel 4 shows Goku reverting to the original version of himself as a child at the site of his creator. The panel is an homage to the moment where Goku discovers his Grandpa Gohan has been brought back to life for a day in Dragon Ball. Panel 5 is an homage to the moment where Goku hands the 4-star Dragon Ball to his descendant Goku Jr. from the TV special Dragon Ball GT: A Hero’s Legacy. The final panel of the first page features Arale from Toriyama’s first incredibly successful manga Dr. Slump. Here she is breaking the 4th wall and literally pulling to edge of the page to see what is next. This is the type of stuff Toriyama would often do in his work. The first panel of the second page features King Kai, Goku’s parents Bardock and Gine, and Launch. Here I’m referencing a running joke in Dragon Ball Super where Goku doesn’t use opportunities to wish King Kai back to life after inadvertently causing his death; fandom discussions of Goku wishing back his parents; and Launch being a forgotten character whose name in Japan is actually Lunch. If you look carefully at the back Launch is holding you can see the somewhat obscured logo to “Spacey’s” a running gag from the Youtube Dragon Ball Z reinterpretation of Dragon Ball Z abridged. Finally, in the last panel as Arale pulls on the edge of the page again we see Crono from Chrono Trigger, the legendary RPG which Toriyama provided character designs for.

Dragon Ball Daima: Oops! All Babies
Tumblr media
I think the word is already out on this thing. Turns out all the rumors about a new Dragon Ball anime featuring a de-aged Goku were mostly true. But it's not "Dragon Ball Magic", it's "Dragon Ball Daima". And while the Supreme Kai is in the trailer, so are a lot of other characters, so it remains to be seen if he's in the lead like the "Magic" rumors had suggested. As far as the name goes, "Daima" is apparently a word Toriyama made up, so "Magic" may have been a best-guess attempt to translate it into English, or maybe it was a working title used behind the scenes, sort of like how they called "Return of the Jedi" by the name "Blue Harvest" during production.
Anyway, the trailer features lots of characters being turned into small children, not just Goku. Some characters are unaccounted for, most notably Gohan. I'm not sure how to interpret this. It could mean he's not in the show at all, and he was unaffected by whatever caused this. But my guess is that they only had so much footage they could put in the trailer, and someone decided Kid Gohan wasn't very helpful from a promotional standpoint. I mean, we saw a lot of Kid Gohan in DBZ. Showing a Kid Gohan in Daima might have led to confusion about the show's continuity.
I'm not... particularly interested in the adults-turned-to-kids gimmick. I don't hate it, but it doesn't mean much to me. The characters look adorable, and that's great, but it's not exactly groundbreaking.
What does interest me is the message from Akira Toriyama at the panel where they unveiled the trailer. I like it because it gives me some assurance that Daima won't fall into the same pitfalls as GT. Let's discuss.
A transcript, first, in case you couldn't read the image at the top of the post:
Hello. I’m Akira Toriyama.
I’m currently working on a new Dragon Ball. The Title is “Dragon Ball DAIMA”.
“DAIMA” is a made-up term, which in Japanese characters would be “大魔” or in English would be something like “Evil.”
Due to a conspiracy, Goku and his friends are turned small. In order to fix things, they’ll head off to a new world! It’s a grand adventure with intense action in an unknown and mysterious world.
Since Goku has to make up for his petite size, he uses his Nyoibo (Power Pole) to fight, something not seen in a long time.
I came up with the story and settings, as well as a lot of the designs. I’m actually putting a lot more into this than usual!
Things will unfold that close in on the mysteries of the Dragon Ball world. Hope you enjoy these different-from-usual battles that are cute and powerful!!
— AKIRA TORIYAMA
All that really matters here is the part where he says why the characters get turned into kids. "Due to a conspiracy, Goku and his friends are turned small. In order to fix things..."
I spent like two months this year complaining about Dragon Ball GT, and pointing out all its various flaws and shortcomings, and here Toriyama sums it all up without even really talking about GT at all. The big problem with GT was not that they turned Goku into a child. The problem was that they turned Goku into a child and then did nothing about it.
I know a lot of fans like GT, but that isn't the point. The point is that when Goku turns into a kid in the first episode, it's presented like a big problem, an obstacle the hero must overcome. The implication is that Goku has to go on a quest to restore himself to normal. Except that's not the problem. The Black Star Dragon Balls are the problem, and Goku can't even think about using them to turn himself back, because they'll destroy the Earth.
So the viewer might be led to assume that the show is actually about Goku learning to adapt to this second childhood. Well, no, because he very quickly decides that it doesn't matter much to him. The only real drawback to his kid body is that for some reason he can't teleport or use Super Saiyan 3. But then he discovers Super Saiyan 4, which can teleport and it's stronger and stabler than SSJ3, so yeah he's arguably better off than he was before.
So what was the purpose of making Goku a kid in GT? I don't know, I guess Toei thought he would look cool that way. Well, fair enough, but that's like giving Goku a haircut, or a new pair of shoes. You don't market a show on a mere cosmetic change. GT presented Kid Goku like a problem that would be central to the series, and then did their best to ignore it for the next 63 episodes. And this hurts everything else they tried to do with the show, because all of the villains and aliens and battles ring hollow when they don't have anything to do with Goku being turned into a kid. If GT could have fixed that fundamental problem, it might not have fixed everything I hated about GT, but it would have at least made the show feel more satisfying to watch.
What I'm driving at here is that Toriyama understands that you can't just de-age your characters for no reason. There has to be a plot-driven reason behind it, or it's just a cheap gimmick. And there is a reason in Daima. There's a conspiracy, and somehow it led to Goku and the gang getting turned into kids. This isn't just Emperor Pilaf making a stupid wish without thinking. Someone did this on purpose. I don't know why someone would do this. Maybe it's an unintended side effect of some other action, but it's still a deliberate action that will set the plot into motion.
And this version of Goku may not care about being de-aged, just like the GT Goku didn't care, but Daima Goku is still going to do something about it. We know this because "In order to fix things, they’ll head off to a new world!" The conspiracy is a problem to be solved, and Goku's going to go to this "new world" to solve it.
This is important. I can't stress it enough. This is why Akira Toriyama is so good at what he does. I'm not saying he's flawless, but most of the criticisms I see leveled at Toriyama don't hold water. The guy knows how important it is to connect all the story beats together.
Of course, Daima could still fall flat. I mean, the Zamasu arc was terrible, so maybe this thing will turn out to be a stinker too. But at least I can rest easy knowing this won't just repeat all the mistakes GT made.

Dragon Ball Daima episode 2:
This is so cozy. Absolutely my type of Shounen.
And it's just these characters being themselves for 20 minutes straight while the animation and direction is unreasonably good.
If they keep it up, I foresee it ending up on my Christmas Cozy list.
And once again, there are just so many little details in there that add so much personality, but also lore substance.
For example, Piccolo probably has some knowledge about the Demon Realm because of Nail/maybe Kami.
And I love that Bulma gets to fix a spaceship for everyone again and use Kibito as her personal servant.
Shin has kind of just been there for a while now and he gets to be a pretty important part of the story.
It feels so wierdly considerate towards all of the characters, which is not very Toriyama-like (except Gohan, we haven't even seen him, just explained why he isn't there, which now that I think on it, IS very Toriyama-like).
But at the same time, the worldbuilding and jokes are very Toriyama.
Personally, I felt most fanserviced by the Power Pole coming back and it making sense in context.
If you know why Toriyama aged up Goku, GT becomes even less fun.
(It's because it would be easier to draw fight scenes because of longer limbs and GT didn't really use this limitation in any kind of interesting way.)
And I love that this episode actually has a fun play on this because everyone has difficulty flying because of their adjusted body size in their child bodies and Goku specifically is thrown off because he has shorter limbs now.
It's so oddly specific and thoughtful.
This is really, really good so far.

DANATYYY I randomly got nostalgic for DBGT tonight and it gave me a question about Mermaid Hunters/Reasons to Live/basically anything that includes GokuSere with the gang. If things got the GT treatment, would just Goku be turned into a child by Pilaf, or would the whole gang be? 🤔 Both outcomes are hilarious to me honestly fjkhgkfj
First of all, it has great taste because Dragon Ball GT is iconic even though it has flaws.
AND LET ME TELL YOU!
@artistefish and I have a plan for a small but funny arc with that.
Right now the idea is that it only affected the men of the group and it's thanks to the magic mushrooms of the Ranma 1/2 manga, where the centimeters represent an age (I need to reread that arc, it has been more than a decade so if there is an inconsistency in this anyone can correct me)
AND HERE IS SOME ART OF THAT ARC BY YOURS TRULY!!! However, they are old so aslkdnsa
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On the left, we have Black Jack, Meisuke Nueno with little Goku and little Rinne hiding in his legs and then Yuta.
and before you ask: IS THAT TEACHER NUENO OF HELL TEACHER NUBE?! The answer is yes, he is part of MH, but he just doesn't stay in the main group for important reasons but helps them occasionally.
Now on the right, Ranma, Ataru and Inuyasha. Aka Ataru trying to keep them from fighting.
The girls find their boyfriends cute
Tumblr media
And some of Arty's drawings about that arc!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So yeah, we did plan that idea in MH; it just sounds so far away right now on the writing side. Meanwhile, I can throw right now our concept art, hopefully close in the future we finally get to write this!

Hello everyone, Draw Goku as a tribute to Akira Toriyama, the creator of Dragon Ball, this Anime will mark our childhood for everyone around the world.

Current idea for mixing GT and Super. The Black Star Dragon Balls DO exist, however I'd like to say that the whole original concept can stay which they are an alternate set of Dragon Balls that were created by the Nameless Namekian before he separated into Kami and King Piccolo. However, these balls have been hidden away due to their dangerous nature. Perhaps these were the first attempt and seeing as they couldn't be destroyed were hidden away. Though given this is happening shortly after DBZ timeline. Not absolute years. Pan is probably the same age as in Super's Hero movie. That being said, I don't think Goku would be turned into a child. If anything the wish accidentally made was that he wished Goku would disappear. While Ultimate Shenron is unable to outright erase goku or kill him, instead Goku was sent to another planet, with no visible way home and the planet being set to explode in one years time.
This ends up with earth without Goku and the others only learning his fate due to Mr.Popo, King Kai and Dende. Determined to get Goku back home before he ends up dying on that planet, Bulma gets to work making a ship, the three picked are instead Piccolo, Krillin and Uub. Vegeta more than likely stays behind. Which unfortunately for these three they end up having the craziest adventure ever. Now onto the baby saga? I'd say things kinda play out as it normally goes. With baby hopping from host to host, until eventually going after Vegeta.
The three ended up finding Goku just as the planet was two days about to explode as well, however the Black Star Dragon Balls get destroyed due to this explosion. Returning home, it plays out as normal with Goku and the events leading up to fighting Baby, except he has a bit of an advantage since he's not trapped in a child body. This being said, until Baby proceeds to take the energy from everyone else to power himself up. Kibito Kai interferes and manages to rescue Goku at the last moment, taking him to the sacred world of the kais. Baby then using the normal dragon balls, Baby wishes for Planet Plant to be returned and thus moves everyone to it. Goku has to heal before going back, since he already has his tail. That being said Baby is slowly growing in power especially after fighting Majuub. From there things kinda play out the same as in the show. Except Earth doesn't explode but Planet Plant does mainly due to the fight getting so out of hand, in which everyone gets evacuated back to earth. (Piccolo is alive!! wooo!!) A year later is when Battle of the Gods takes place, however shortly after those events. The Shadow Dragon Arc will begin due to the way the Dragon Balls are constantly being used (and sometimes for selfish reasons)

MY THOUGHTS ON DRAGON BALL DAIMA
Tumblr media
(Wasn't going to post this old draft, but decided to post it anyway since @/puyohero was curious about my thoughts)
Awesome! Love that Toriyama is heavily involved! Love the art & animation and the idea is interesting too.
SIMILARITY TO DRAGON BALL GT
Yes, GT did something similar. However GT sidelined most of the cast. Even Pan & Trunks kinda got sidelined when they were part of the main cast of GT. In this, it seems the other characters will play some sort of role too. Or I assume so. And they will be traveling to another realm/world. So maybe the others will go with Goku.
DB DAIMA seems to be referencing a lot of DB properties & not only GT. As pointed out here...
CAST AS CHILDREN COULD MEAN...
I had hoped it would turn the entire cast into children and glad it happened. Now I hope we get more info about it. Because what I want is for the other cast members to get involved. Gohan & Piccolo are on a similar level to Goku & Vegeta, so then being excluded to only focus on Goku & Vegeta would be stupid. And since it is stated that this series won't be transformation heavy... what if Goku cannot transform into forms he didn't have as a child?? Or it's very taxing on the body if they can. Now everyone can get involved in the battles! Krillin has already returned to martial arts, but we can get my boy Yamcha fighting again! We might even get to see kid Ox King fight alongside kid Roshi. That would be neat!
Now what would be funny is to see a kid version of Buu. Would it be a short chubby Buu or Kid Buu/Pure Buu? Or maybe the magic won't affect him much since he can change his appearance at will. 🤔
Also, I bet there is a joke about Krillin not getting much smaller when turned into a kid again like how there was a joke in OG Dragon Ball that Krillin didn't get much taller & Krillin is upset about the statement.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, the chibi reminds me of the Dragon Ball SD manga.
TITLE POSSIBLY ELUDING TO...
Tumblr media
Another interesting thing was the placeholder name "Magic" and the current name "DAIMA." Seems like Toriyama is possibly hinting at the Makaioshin. Evil beings with magical power, the Demon Realm being a place where magic rules over science, and the fact that THIS guy looks like a Kaioshin.
Tumblr media
So the little guy could be a God of the Demon Realm. Or maybe a God of Destruction of the Demon Realm. Who knows? We'll have to wait and see.
JOURNEY TO THE WEST REFERENCES
I see some Journey To The West/Saiyuki influence in here too which is good cause this is Dragon Ball after all. Goku with a Sun Wukong role, East Kaioshin (Shin) with the monk role. And maybe other characters who are inspired by Saiyuki will play roles similar to their inspirations.
Vegeta having a Sun Wukong role while Bulma has the Tripitaka role
Piccolo having a Tripitaka/Wukong role while Gohan also has the Tripitaka/Wukong role
Krillin with a Tripitaka role (maybe some Wukong role too since he also takes some Wukong inspiration) & maybe 18 takes on the role of Tripitaka in certain aspects?
Yamcha with a role referencing Sha Wujing role
Tenshinhan with a role referencing Erlang Shen
And if the Demon Realm is involved then there is more Saiyuki references. Journey to a dangerous land and fighting demons. This could be pretty cool to see.
GOKU'S DESIGN
And another thing... Goku's gi in Daima. It's becoming closer and closer to his End of Z gi.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The untucked style of Goku's gi in Daima is similar to EoZ, but the colors are still like his iconic orange and blue gi.
MY THEORY FOR THE STORY
In the Demon Realm, the Makaioshin & some Demon God examine Goku & his friends. They speak about Babidi and how he recruited the King of the Demon Realm, Dabura, and still failed. As well as Bibidi summoning & Babidi reawakening the evil beings Majin Buu, then Buu becoming an ally of Goku. Where a sorcerer failed, a Demon God plans to succeed. The Demon God & Makaioshin notice that Goku & company are always victorious due to their strength, transformations, and friendship that encourages each other. So somehow, they are all turned into children to make them doubt their chances of victory. And their power is nerfed too. The Saiyans might have to struggle just to turn SSJ again. I believe it will be through a spell just to be different from GT and not use a wish granting Dragon. The part that shows that a wish was made to Shenron wish was likely after they were turned into kids and they needed help in some way, or they tried to reverse the spell and it was beyond the power of Shenron.
So they venture into this new realm to fix things. Perhaps splitting into groups. Goku & Kaioshin, Vegeta & Bulma, Gohan & Piccolo, Krillin & 18, ect. Some teaming up with other groups too. Get to see stuff like Goku & Tien team up. They learn about the depths of magic & Bulma is surprised because her technology she relies so much upon doesn't matter much in the Demon Realm where magic is their technology.
At some point, they find a way to return to their actual ages and adult bodies. In the end, they confront the Demon God & Makaioshin. Of course Goku would face the main bad guy (along with Vegeta & maybe with Gohan & Piccolo). Godly power vs godly magic. Or something like that.
Now let's wait & see how wrong I am 😂
